Gene Hackman's death offers a vivid example of the choices older adults and their family caregivers need to consider such as where to live and how to develop a network of support, Andrea Cohen, board chair of the Caregiver Action Network and founder of HouseWorks, said. Home care can play a role in these conversations, Anne Tumlinson, founder and CEO of ATI Advisory and founder of the family caregiver group Daughterhood, said. Home care must treat family caregivers as one of their key stakeholders, along with the client and employee, Cohen said. When she started HouseWorks, a personal care company, family caregivers were invisible. No longer. Family caregiver training is much better than it used to be. Public policy also has shifted so that, through the new GUIDE Model, Medicare now recognizes the important role that family caregivers of loved ones with dementia face, Tumlinson said. Going forward, home care companies need to be strategic and provide a range of services, such as home modifications, for their clients. Tumlinson agreed. The most successful home-based care models are interdisciplinary and scalable, she said. And they must be data-driven, Cohen added. Providing for family caregivers is essential. Taking care of them helps to solve problems for the hospital and healthcare plan and other parts of the healthcare system.Follow us on social media:X: @McKHomeCareFacebook: McKnight's Home CareLinkedIn: McKnight's Home CareInstagram: mcknights_homecareFollow Caregiver Action Network on social media:Facebook: Caregiver Action NetworkLinkedIn: Caregiver Action NetworkInstagram:@caregiveractionFollow ATI Advisory on social media:LinkedIn: ATI AdvisoryFollow Daughterhood on social media:Facebook: DaughterhoodInstagram: Daughterhood

Hekate is a titan goddess blessed by Zeus. What better way to gain a god's favor than by assisting another goddess in the search for her kidnapped daughter? This Sunday, join Liv as she shares the retelling of Homer's Hymn to Demeter, which narrates the abduction of Persephone, the goddess of Spring, by Hades, the God of the Underworld. As with many spiritual interpretations, the context of our times influences how we extract wisdom from ancient mythologies. It's no surprise that contemporary views on Persephone's descent into the underworld to wed her uncle have led to significant modern and literal interpretations. However, the allegorical meanings of this tale extend far beyond any literal readings of today. To better convey the wisdom found in Homer's Hymn, Liv reinterprets the poem in her own words, accompanied by quotes that intrigued her, illuminating the various lessons and depths of wisdom that can be gleaned from this mythology.Tune in to explore a more Hellenistic perspective on this mythological reference to Hekate.FOR MORE CHECK OUT THE YOUTUBE CHANNEL: https://www.youtube.com/@MetaPsycKicksOR READ THE BLOG: https://www.metapsyckicks.com/journalOR JOIN OUR PATREON: https://www.patreon.com/metapsyckicks——-BOOK A PSYCHIC MEDIUM READING:Olivia the Medium: https://www.metapsyckicks.com/liv-readings-----CHAPTERS:0:00 - Intro3:06 - Liv's Life Update9:37 - Homer's Hymn vs. Roman Ovid16:19 - The Abduction of Persephone28:41 - The Reason for 3 Seasons: Horea30:23 - Allegories of the Story36:22 - 3 Quotes41:38 - Hades: Place or Person?48:19 - Trials & Tribulations of Motherhood, Daughterhood, & Relationships1:09:04 - Kore as Hekate or Persephone1:10:45 - Thanks for Listening!-----RECOMMENDED PRODUCTS:Our YouTube Setup ►► https://kit.co/metapsyckicks/meta-psyckicks-youtube-setupOur Podcast Setup ►► https://kit.co/metapsyckicks/meta-psyckicks-podcasting-setupEm's Tarot Collection ►► https://kit.co/metapsyckicks/em-s-tarot-card-collectionOther Divination Tools: ►► https://kit.co/metapsyckicks/other-divination-toolsDISCLAIMER: This description might contain affiliate links that allow you to find the items mentioned in this video and support the channel at no cost to you. Well I Know Now with Pippa Kelly

Kitty Norton describes herself as a former “just about everything – from non-profits arts administrator to cabaret performer to post-production professional to crappiest daughter of the year award-winner for more than forty years”. She forfeited that last accolade when, six years after her mum was diagnosed with vascular dementia, and following the sudden death of her dad, she gave up her job with NBC in Los Angeles to move back to Oregon so that she and her sister could provide their mum with the best possible dementia care. To get her through this unplanned turn in her career, Kitty started a blog called Stumped Town Dementia. The blog brought her a temporary escape from dementia as well as countless virtual caregiver friends from all over the world who supported her with their understanding comments, emails and Zoom dates. When her mum died in 2021, Kitty decided she wanted to meet the virtual friends who had become so very important to her as she cared for her mum and, in her words, “Sit out on a summer's night, open a couple of bottles of wine, and find healing in the camaraderie of a fellow dementia caregiver”. She then went and did just that. The result is an incredible 90 minute film charting the 75 hundred miles and 27 states that Kitty covered in 26 days. Wine, Women and Dementia has already been garlanded with awards. It's produced by some serious professionals and features caregivers Kitty encountered through her blog, including former Well I Know Now guest and host of Daughterhood, the Podcast, Rosanne Corcoran. Like Stumped Town Dementia, Wine, Women and Dementia pulls no punches. Its protagonists, the caregivers, are strong, articulate women with fire (and possibly the odd drop of rose or Californian white) in their belly. It's a rollicking, funny, sad, informative, supportive must-watch for all family caregivers, for policy makers and anyone remotely interested in dementia – or perhaps, simply for everyone. You can find information on when Kitty's film will be available here in the UK at the website https://www.winewomenanddementia.com/ and you can find her blog at https://www.stumpedtowndementia.com/Wine, Women and Dementia will be available online in support of Dementia Action Week, May 13-19. Registration is free or, if you are able to support the film's continued outreach to family carers, a donation would be very welcome. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Kitty Norton is a former NBC Assistant Editor. She left her job to join her sister in co-caring for their mother, Gloria, who was living with vascular dementia. Kitty created and directed Wine, Women, & Dementia to honor this journey with her mother, to spread awareness of the caregiver side of the equation in dementia, and to celebrate family caregivers - to let them know they are not alone and that they are worthy of being seen and respected alongside their dementia person on this difficult road to the end of life. Beth Rigazio (Producer) most recent feature, Freak Show, premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, starring Alex Lawther, Abigail Breslin, and Bette Midler. It was produced by Maven and Flower Films. Beth previously sold a half-hour comedy pitch, Tor-mentor, to NBC with America Ferrara and is best known for writing the feature, Raising Helen, which starred Kate Hudson. Beth also fills a respite role as a caregiver for her friend's father who has dementia. Allyson Schrier is a former family caregiver to her husband with dementia. That experience led her to create Zinnia TV, an app that streams videos engaging for and digestible by people with dementia to help reduce stress for them and those caring for them. Rosanne Corcoran is the Host and Executive Producer of Daughterhood The Podcast: For Caregivers. She is also Daughterhood's Director of Content Strategy. Rosanne cared for her mother with vascular dementia over a span of twelve years, the last six in her home with her husband and children. After experiencing first-hand the stress and isolation caregiving brings along with the lack of meaningful resources for caregivers, she created Daughterhood The Podcast in 2019. She has also been a Daughterhood Circle Leader since that time. Veronica Shanklin is a dedicated advocate, speaker, and champion for Alzheimer's awareness and caregiver support. Through a decade of experience as a full-time caregiver for both her mother and grandmother,  she founded a non-profit,  Dementia Care Warriors, to provide vital resources and education for those caring for loved ones with Alzheimer's and related dementia. Lexie Fields co-cared for her mother, Gloria, who was living with vascular dementia with her sister, Kitty Norton from 2016- 2021. Lexie manages The Schooner Restaurant on the Oregon Coast and has a passion for farm-to-table foods throughout the world. Here at Daughterhood, we receive numerous questions regarding governmental policy, and the myriad of ways it affects the healthcare system and each of us both as patient and as caregiver.  It was my pleasure to speak with two experts in the field and friends of the podcast - Howard Gleckman Senior Fellow at The Urban Institute as well as a columnist at Forbes, editor of TaxVox Blog for the Tax Policy Center and author of Caring for our parents. And creator of Daughterhood Anne Tumlinson who is also the Founder and CEO of ATI Advisory a national research and consulting firm that shapes public policy and business strategy to reform care delivery for individuals with complex care needs and their families.  We discuss many issues like the challenges of trying to change policy, the importance of lawmakers hearing and understanding the challenges caregivers face, how policy shapes the care we receive and the importance of making our voices heard.  Daughterhood.org HowardGleckman.com

In the run up to Christmas I'll be dropping two special live episodes recorded live at the Birmingham Literature Festival earlier this autumn. The second conversation is with one of the funniest, warmest women you're ever likely to encounter: Ruth Jones. TBH Ruth needs little introduction. The co-writer and star of Stella and the BAFTA award winning Gavin and Stacey, she is also the bestselling author of three Sunday Times bestsellers: Never Greener (which was also WHSmith Fiction book of the year), Us Three and now, Love Untold. Warm, open-hearted and generous, Love Untold sees Ruth turn her attention to motherhood and daughterhood as we meet four generations of the women of the Meredith family: Grace, Alys, Elin and Beca and encounter the minefield of complications that form the mother-daughter bond - love, hate and everything in between. You will laugh, you will cry, you will wince and above all you will recognise the feelings that Ruth evokes in the four women.Ruth joined me in front of a live audience at the Birmingham Rep to talk about the complex mother-daughter relationship, why so few people talk about daughterhood, the power and importance of cross-generational understanding and the impossibility of living up to a fantasy life. She also opened up about menopause, HRT, her irrational fear of turning 40 and her favourite new role.... that of Nanny Ruth! This episode includes an exclusive reading from Love Untold by Ruth. And Ruth's book recommendations for Christmas reading.* You can buy all the books mentioned in this podcast at Bookshop.org, including Love Untold by Ruth Jones and the book that inspired this podcast, The Shift: how I lost and found myself after 40 - and you can too, by me.* And if you'd like to support the work that goes into making this podcast and get a weekly newsletter plus loads more content including transcripts of the podcast, please consider joining The Shift community. Our guest today is a real political maverick as well as an incredible business leader. Anne Tumlinson started her career in government working as a healthcare advisor to the one and only Congressman John Lewis. Today, she is the Founder and CEO of ATI Advisory, and the founder of Daughterhood. Both organizations aim to address aging and disability issues in our country.  Unfortunately, there are a lot of issues. In this episode, Anne walks us through the scope of the problem, but she also talks about a lot of solutions. And some of these solutions, she's already built. Do you have any thoughts? Or you might know him as the founder of The Whole Care Network, featuring a variety of podcasts, blogs and videos to provide caregivers with much needed resources. In fact, Chris is the reason this podcast exists! A few years back, he approached our management team with the idea of doing a podcast. After much thought we realized how a podcast could further our mission and here we are today, more than 60 episodes in. Thanks for the suggestion, Chris! Several other of our authors are also featured on The Whole Care Network: Rosanne Corcoran's Daughterhood the Podcast; Elizabeth Miller's Happy Healthy Caregiver; Susie Singer Carters' Love Conquers Alz; and Matthew Estrada's Peace with Dementia Podcast. Chris is the author of "What's The Deal with Caregiving?" a powerful and compelling book written from his own experience that informs caregivers about how to deal with the challenges they will encounter, regardless of sexual orientation, family situation, or age. The book is part memoir/part how-to, as he shares his and Richard's stories and experiences from their caregiving journey. He and Richard were fortunate to have their story chronicled in a 2015 Pulitzer Prize-nominated 3-part story “In Sickness and In Health: A Couple's Final Journey” which told their journey of caregiving, the challenges LGBT partners have in dealing with the medical and legal system, and the love and joy his partner Richard's last years had on their relationship. Their story has been read by over 500,000 people world-wide since it was published in April of 2014.  In this episode we discuss the value storytelling podcasts bring to caregiving, walking into caregiving with eyes wide open, and the beauty of the extended family of caregiving. Four daughters lose and find their mothers, engage and disengage with them, learn and unlearn who these women are and who they were before they came along. These daughters, intentionally and unintentionally, look for meaning and identity in the women who gave them birth; because whether we like or barely tolerate them, whether we love or reject them entirely, whether they put us together fragment by careful fragment, or whether they undo us with the tug of an errant string, who they were tells us everything about who we will become. And so we keep prying underneath that mystery, hoping that it will make our own puzzles click into place, eventually. Act 1: "Embracing the Subjective," by Susanna Barlow and read by Lannie Stabile. Published in The Nasiona, 29 September 2018. Susanna Barlow does what is most difficult for writers: namely, she lets go of the certainty of truth. By recounting her complicated childhood and fundamentalist upbringing (along with the deception it necessitated), she nonetheless manages to ground herself in another form of authenticity. Act 2: "Swallow," written and read by Emma Faesi Hudelson. Published in The Nasiona, 29 December 2018. Emma Faesi Hudelson takes us to a seminal day in her life: an afternoon of teenage drunkenness collapses into chaos, and her mother's ensuing attitude to it changes the dynamic of their bond. This account is a haunting glimpse into the boundaries we test with our mothers and, conversely, into what our mothers inadvertently let us get away with. The consequences of their reaction—or lack thereof—often determine the way we bring them into the fold of our trauma going forward. It also paves the way for how we appraise the mistakes we made, the ones currently unfurling, and the ones to come. Act 3: "Finding Jean Palmer," by Hannah Huff and read by Anuja Ghimire. Published in The Nasiona, 7 February 2019. Generations of mothers and daughters collide in this next piece, when Hannah Huff and her mother undertake a journey to find the grave of the former's great-grandmother, on her grandmother's birthday. The quest reveals itself to be somewhat baffling, testing the women's bond and their faith in one another. Act 4: "My Mother's Suitcases," by Jacqueline Doyle and read by Aïcha Martine Thiam. Published in The Nasiona, 10 February 2019. Jacqueline Doyle juggles feelings of remorse and acrimony for her mother, during a strained phone conversation with her. This piece is an incisive examination of the ways mothers and daughters often engage in exchanges fraught with tension, exchanges that sometimes take on a more bittersweet connotation, with the benefit of retrospection and indulgence. Produced by Julián Esteban Torres López and Aïcha Martine Thiam.
