A line of cars and an unprecedented demand this Thanksgiving season as more Idahoans struggle to put food on their tables. How one local nonprofit is helping out. Also, we look at the significant contributions from Idaho's native peoples, starting with Joseph R. Garry of the Coeur d'Alene Tribe. Plus, the great debate: Is it too early to put up Christmas decorations? Joe Parris and Gov. Little don't think so. And in today's 208 Redial, we take you back 17 years for a Thanksgiving lesson that began almost 400 years ago.
KTVB's Joe Parris explains how spikes in COVID-19 cases follow holidays or holiday events and Brian Holmes shares the story of how a mom's visit on Halloween led to a family of five all contracting the coronavirus. In today's 208 Redial, Brian goes back five years to a snowy day at the Boise Towne Square Mall where KTVB asked people what they were thankful for this holiday season. Some of the answers your about to hear don't apply to 2020, like for some "softball" or for others, "a job." Idaho's Taysom Hill will start this Sunday under center for the New Orleans Saints after franchise quarterback Drew Brews suffered multiple fractured ribs. Thanks to the Saints' creative use of Hill in their offense, he will be listed as a quarterback and a tight end in ESPN fantasy football leagues. Here's what fantasy general managers should know about the Idaho native.
The city of Boise now has a health order with some bite. New COVID-controlling mandates issued by the mayor include enforcement for the first time and will affect some city services through next summer. And, next summer is when we're supposed to have this coronavirus all under control - thanks to the release of a vaccine. At least that's according to U.S. Sen. Jim Risch of Idaho. Joe Parris sat down with him today to get his take on the worsening crisis. He also asked the senator about the presidential election. Plus, talk about a transfer of power. It was a century-and-a-half ago that Idaho's state capitol was "transferred" from Lewiston to Boise. But this week, it was moved again - kind of.Â
Gov. Brad Little has signed the second of two election-related bills passed during the Idaho Legislature's recent special session. With the new laws in place, the stage is set for the highly-anticipated upcoming general election in November. We take a look at what it will mean for Idaho voters. And, a Boise CPA explains President Trump's new payroll tax deferral program. While it will mean bigger paychecks over the next few months, there is a big catch. Plus, like so many events this summer, the annual Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic was canceled due to COVID-19. Our 208 Redial looks back at the event two years ago when reporter Joe Parris got to go on a memorable balloon ride high above Boise.
