Summary 195 Max talks with Dierk Reuter about collecting flight data from the G3000 in TBM aircraft and plotting it against stable approach criteria. About 150 TBM pilots are participating and the data shows that those pilots are improving their approach and landing skills. This is important, as there have been some issues in the past with prop strikes, especially when pilots are unstable and land too fast. "Creativity is simply the rearrangement of the old in a new way" Tweet it out: http://ctt.ec/99A83 My mentor Mike Vance was Walt Disney's right hand man in charge of ideas and people development of the Disney empire. So when Mike said to me "creativity is simply the rearrangement of the old in a new way," I knew it was sage advice. It got me thinking, how can apply Mike's advice to real estate and this is what I came up with: So if I asked you "What are the areas in your business that you want to have impact on? What are the areas of your business that you want to improve efficiency, increase results, make it better, have it be a better client experience?" I have a feelings you're going to say everything under the sun and then some. Here's how I see it, if people aren't blown away by you and your efforts, your opportunity in the bottom of the 9th with the bases load to win the game, I'd say that's an area you can improve upon. And if every week you said, "What's one change I can make? What's one little thing I can do to improve the experience of the customer, what is it?" Start by putting a list of things you want to work on together and every week pick one item to make better. Now remember, ideas are meaningless unless you convert it into a project, so get them up and visual to keep yourself accountable. A lot of our clients have huge boards up call DO-DOING-DONE boards, where there's a column for DO-what you want to work on, DOING-what you're working on and DONE-what you've completed. I suggest adding a fourth column called MAKE BETTER for all the improvements you want to make. Move one idea from the MAKE BETTER column to the DO column every week. You would want to make it 10x bigger and get it up on your wall to get it really visual. In closing, here's what I want you to do. I want you to have weekly creative time--a time for weekly innovation where you're looking at your business, the areas that you most want to impact and deciding how you can do it better. And then by writing down all the best ideas you're going to begin to implement another nugget that Mike Vance taught me, which is idea A and idea B can be combine to create a really sexy new project that can help serve more clients, help more customers, improve efficiency, create higher profits, create more sales! Art. Liturgy. And Evangelical Mega-Churches. On the 9th episode of the ALT podcast, I have a joint conversation with Willow Creek pastors Blaine Hogan & Aaron Niequist. Blaine Hogan is the creative pastor for Willow Creek Community Church in Chicago, IL. He's had a career in acting, including a popular TV show. His path then led him to become the creative director of one of the largest & most creative churches in North America. His experience in merging the creative arts into modern worship settings has given him an incredible insight for emerging artists in the Church. He's recently launched a new eCourse called "Make Better" designed specifically for creators & artists. At the same church, Aaron Niequist has served as a worship leader for the past few years. Like Blaine, he's been intrigued by the ancient expressions of the Church. Aaron has experienced both success & failure as he's experimented with integrating ancient practices into their large contemporary mega-church setting. His path has led him to create two avenues for engaging Liturgy in a contemporary context. The first is "A New Liturgy", a series of 25-minute journeys through prayer, meditation & song. The second is an experimental gathering on Sunday nights called "The Practice", an ecumenical worship service that explores the unforced rhythms of grace. So both of these guys are navigating art & liturgy in one of the largest evangelical churches in America, Willow Creek... a church that has provided a refuge for many escaping dry, dead & traditional religion by creating exciting seeker-friendly worship services. Let's just say they have a lot of stories & wisdom to share! ______________________________________ SHOW NOTES There are a lot of show notes plus a few videos included for this episode. Blaine Hogan is a seasoned writer and creative director with a new course for artists called Make Better. He believes better art produces better people and vice versa. We unpack that belief, discussing quantum physics, the importance of a manifesto, and why it's better to use tools than be one.
