Can coaching make you faster? I don't think I'm alone in wanting to be faster on my bike. So in this episode, I took a coaching session with Laurie Greenland's coach, Olly Morris. We sat down afterwards to discuss the process we went through. Find out how Olly identified areas that could be improved and the exercises that he used to help me. It was a really interesting day for me, and quite different from what I expected. We also discuss coaching in general, and hopefully give you some good pointers if you're interested in taking on some coaching yourself, be it to go faster or for other reasons. So sit back, hit play and listen to this episode with Olly Morris. You can find Olly on Instagram @ollym1 and his company ProRide @proridemtbcoaching. They are also on Facebook here. Their website is over at proridemtb.com. Supporting Partners Muc Off Muc-Off have just launched Punk Powder, their first plastic free bike cleaner. I wanted to answer a question that I get asked a lot: how do you get things done faster? It's pretty simple and straightforward. As Tim Grover would say, pressure is a privilege.

Will running a marathon in high-tech super shoes help you run faster? Nike made huge headlines when they came out with the Vaporfly series in 2017. Featuring a new kind of foam and a flexible carbon plate, Nike promised that their expensive new shoes would improve a marathoner's running economy by 4%. With elites and recreational runners doing everything they could to improve by just one percent, these magic new shoes were pretty tantalizing. But with all new technology comes controversy. Nike had already been supplying its best runners with Vaporflies as early as 2016, which was an Olympic year. Other athletes sponsored by other companies would be at a clear disadvantage if the 4% improvement numbers were really true and they complained to the governing bodies of the sport. Rules changed and the copycats followed Nikes lead. Now in 2021, most of the major running shoe companies have some version of high-tech foam and carbon plate shoes and all of them need to be available to the public before they can be used in competition. So what does this all mean for you? How much do high-tech shoes matter in your running and racing? I wanted to find out so I invited Michael Haischer on the Run to the Top to tell us what he found. Mike is a doctoral student and lab manager at the Athletic and Human Performance Research Center at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI, which just so happens to be my alma mater. Mike and his team wanted to better understand the potential performance-enhancing effects of technological advancements in marathon racing shoes. So they examined the finishing times of the top 50 male and 50 female runners from all the World Marathon Major series in the past decade, both before and after the introduction of new Nike shoe models. Did the Nikes make a difference? And if so, what implications does that have on the rest of us, who are not in the top 50? We are about to find out. Take a Listen on Your Next Run! Brenton Rickard is the 2008 Olympic silver medalist in the Men's 200 Breaststroke. He picked up a second silver in the Men's 4x100 Medley Relay. A year later, in Rome, Rickard became World Champion and WORLD RECORD holder the 100 Breast posting a 58.58. Brett and Brenton reminisce about swimming fast, competing in the strongest breaststroke era ever, his competitors, coaches and more. Recently, the International Olympic Committee dropped doping charges against him. Charges stemming from a re-test of samples going back to the 2012 London Olympics. It cost him more than $50,000 to defend his reputation but, according to him, was totally worth it. Enjoy! Welcome to episode 283 where today I talk about 3 powerful mindsets that you need to adopt to start improving faster while practicing less, and setting yourself up to win everytime. If you can start recognizing the less helpful mindsets that many of us musicians have, and then replacing them with these, it could be huge for you. Listen to episode 283 Too many times, we musicians set ourselves up to fail. We set ourselves up to fail so that we are not able to improve in our jazz playing, in our skills, in our comping, in our walking baselines, in our single note lines. Whatever it is that you are working on right now, we set ourselves up to fail because we have the wrong mindset. We have the wrong mindset for how to actually improve and because we've adopted some of these bad mindsets for how we approach actually going about learning this music, we dramatically decrease the way that we improve and how we are able to improve. So, in today's episode, I'll be going over 3 powerful mindsets that if you can adopt these mindsets, I can pretty much guarantee that you are going to start making more progress in your jazz playing while practicing even less. In this episode: 1. Mindset 1: You can make huge progress with only the amount of practice time you have (without giving up anything) 2. Mindset 2: The simple stuff is the BIG stuff - you don't need to practice harder and more things to improve 3. Mindset 3: Perfection is the enemy of progress - when we get stuck on perfecting one thing, we miss out on the other lessons waiting for us Important Links 1. LJS Inner Circle Membership

If you're a solo business owner, chances are you know that feeling of the sales being all on YOU.Not only do you have to worry about filling seats to your program, but you have to make payroll if you have employees, you have to pay your contractors, you have to get yourself out of debt and you have to do allllll of that before you can even think about paying yourself. The solution to YOU not carrying all of the weight might sound simple - just bring on a partner so they can carry it with you. And it makes sense why you might think that - because 2 brains are stronger than 1... right?Well, not always. It has to be the RIGHT brain! And what we mean by that is the person must know how to sell. Bringing on a partner to handle the backend of the business or manage finances is helpful, but won't lift the weight of the sales - essentially, the health of the business will still be on YOU.In this podcast episode, Macy and Kat sit down with 2 GUIDE Culture graduates and business partners, Dylan Murphy and Meredith Renshaw of Free Method Nutrition, to talk about this very thing. Dylan and Meredith both took GUIDE Culture together to improve the way that they sell their program. They speak to what it's like to grow a business together and share how both of them being able to sell has impacted the business as a whole.MENTIONS:Follow along with Dylan and Meredith on Instagram!Enrollment for GUIDE Culture's Fall Cohort opens TODAY (8/30/21) - click HERE for more details! For the first time, there's 2 ways you can join:1️⃣ Signature Online Program
Gene Hamilton is a mountain bike skills coach and the founder of Better Ride. He's taught clinics around the world to thousands of riders looking to ride faster and more confidently. In this episode, we ask Gene: How did you get into mountain biking racing? Once you realized that you had hit a wall in terms of your own skills development, how did you go about researching proper mountain bike skills? Were there any surprises based on your early research, or any “aha” moments that stuck out? How can riders take advantage of momentum to go faster on the trail without putting in extra effort? Is it possible for mountain biking to be bad for our health? What's a mountain bike skill that separates pros from those who would consider themselves advanced or even expert riders? Are some bike tires better at cornering than others? Which ones? How has mountain bike skills training changed over the past two decades, in terms of the techniques and the skills you're teaching? As someone who has won Masters-level DH competitions, what tips do you have for staying fast and fit at your age? Do you think today's bikes make it easier for riders to go faster, or to have more fun? How much of performance comes down to the bike, and how much to the rider? RockerMike and Rob discuss W.A.S.P W.A.S.P. is an American heavy metal band formed in 1982. They emerged from the early 1980s Los Angeles heavy metal scene. The band's popularity peaked that decade, yet they continue to record and tour, making them one of the most enduring of the West Coast heavy metal bands. W.A.S.P. gained notoriety for their shock rock-themed image, lyrics and live performances. They have sold over 12 million albums. W.A.S.P. was a prominent target in the mid-1980s of the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC), an organization that pushed for warning labels on recorded music. The band immortalized its fight with the PMRC on the song "Harder, Faster" from their 1987 live album, Live...In the Raw. Their most well-known songs include "Animal (Fuck Like a Beast)", "I Wanna Be Somebody", "L.O.V.E. Machine", "Wild Child", "Blind in Texas", "Forever Free", "Mean Man", "Chainsaw Charlie (Murders in the New Morgue)" and "The Idol", as well as their cover versions of Ray Charles' "I Don't Need No Doctor" and The Who's "The Real Me". The band's most recent album, Golgotha, was released in 2015, and they have reportedly been working on new material. https://www.wikiwand.com/en/W.A.S.P._(band) https://www.facebook.com/W.A.S.P.Nation?__cmr=1&refsrc=deprecated&_rdr https://www.discogs.com/artist/267066-WASP https://www.classicrockhistory.com/top-10-w-a-s-p-songs/ https://myrockshows.com/band/1478-wasp/ Please follow us on Youtube,Facebook,Instagram,Twitter,Patreon and at www.gettinglumpedup.com https://linktr.ee/RobRossi Get your T-shirt at https://www.prowrestlingtees.com/gettinglumpedup And https://www.bonfire.com/store/getting-lumped-up/ https://app.hashtag.expert/?fpr=roberto-rossi80 https://dc2bfnt-peyeewd4slt50d2x1b.hop.clickbank.net https://8bcded2xph1jdsb8mqp8th3y0n.hop.clickbank.net/?cbpage=nb Subscribe to the channel and hit the like button --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rob-rossi/support https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/getting-lumped-up-with-rob-rossi/id1448899708 https://open.spotify.com/show/00ZWLZaYqQlJji1QSoEz7a https://www.patreon.com/Gettinglumpedup #rocknrolllifestyle #rocknroll #rocknrollforever #rocknrollbride #rocknrollband #rocknrollstar #metalband #metalbands #metalbandart #metalbandshirt --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rob-rossi/support
Allison Cleaver is a pediatric nurse by day, momma to a 6-month-old baby girl, Molly, and an elite runner. It's certainly a lot to juggle. She's still figuring out the stroller miles, is working hard to rebuild her body, and is giving herself grace. She is fiery, feisty, & fast! At 32, Allison has already put together an amazing running resume; she's run the past 2 Olympic Trials marathons (2:36 PR at CIM), won the Indy Monumental 1/2 marathon (1:12:47, a 5:33 pace) & even bigger things lie ahead! Someone with those creds usually had a prodigious high school career, was highly recruited to a top university, and hit the pro circuit... ...but what makes Allison's story so inspiring is that she didn't start running until 16. In her youth, she tagged alongside Dad on her bike on his 2 mile loop and ran it for the first time in 3rd grade. They bonded, she enjoyed the feeling it gave her, started running track at 16, and never looked back. She ran 2 years of high school and then Mom calls coach Steve Sisson on his 2nd day on the job at the University of Texas to ask what it takes to run there. He tells Mom he'll keep an eye out, watches Allison run, likes her fire, and tells her he believes in her and wants her on the team. From a dream to run at UT to making it as a walk-on against all odds! They formed a strong, 9 year partnership and he became a key mentor. "Steve was awesome and his energy helped me propel to the athlete I am today." After moving to Houston in 2016 for nursing school before coming back HOME to Austin, Allison met and began working with another great coach, Steve Magness and they're accomplishing great things together today. Some of the topics we cover include: mom life, pediatric nursing & trying to make a difference, coaching mentors (Toby Howell in high school, Steve Sisson at UT, Steve Magness post-collegiate), coaching styles, where the grit comes from (Grandpa Mendez, who ran in 1980 Boston Marathon), her intro to running with Dad, running in 2 Olympic Trials marathons, her experiences in LA & ATL, the big family presence cheering for her in ATL, the ATX running community, running for herself without sponsor pressure, rebuilding from the ground up, how the Tokyo Olympics re-lit her fire to get after even FASTER times and qualify for another Olympic Trials in the marathon. I'm so excited to follow Allison's INSPIRING journey to another Olympic Trials marathon qualifier and to becoming the fastest version of herself. I hope you all enjoy this conversation as much as we did! If you enjoy the episode, it would mean the world to me if you would rate the podcast or write a review and share feedback wherever you get your podcast groove on. I've churned through over 150,000 emails, social media comments and messages, and blog comments in the last 6 years. And that means I've fielded a ton of questions. As you can imagine, some questions pop up more often than others, and I thought it might be helpful to take a little time every month to choose a few and record and share my answers. So, in this round, I answer the following question: What do you think about companies that do DNA testing to make diet and training recommendations? If you have a question you'd like me to answer, leave a comment below or if you want a faster response, send an email to mike@muscleforlife.com. Timestamps 3:57 - What is DNA testing? 7:20 - Is DNA testing a gimmick? 9:59 - Should you get DNA testing? Can DNA testing help you? Rob Woodhouse won a Bronze medal in the Men's 400 IM at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. His sister, Susan, was also a pretty good swimmer. She married Ron McKeon (who swam in 80 & 84) and they had three children: Kaitlin, David, and Emma McKeon. Emma, of course, just became the most decorated Australian Olympian ever with her performance in Tokyo. Rob is a super successful business man and sports agent. He sold his agency to TLA and still manages superstars including Adam Peaty. For the last three years he has been the General Manager of the London Roar. Enjoy!
