Danny Richter, a policy fellow for CCL, led a discussion on CCL's strategic approach to engaging with the newly configured Congress. He highlighted the organization's priorities, including defending the clean energy provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act, advocating for the Fix Our Forest Act, supporting Foreign Pollution Fees and cautiously entering the permitting reform space. Danny emphasized the shift in CCL's approach from playing offense to playing defense, as we now focus on defending a bill that has already been passed. He also noted the change in the balance of power, with Republicans holding a majority in both the Senate and the House, and the importance of understanding this new context for effective Congressional engagement. This discussion stresses the importance of thinking ahead, preparing for multiple swings of the political pendulum, and maintaining positive relationships with both Democratic and Republican members of Congress. Danny also highlighted the need for volunteer empowerment, focusing on climate issues, and being a science-based organization. He acknowledged the need for uncomfortable trade-offs in addressing climate change and the importance of diverse approaches to achieve change. As for its earnings, Assia Georgieva believes Carnival is more "insulated" from competitive pressures compared to peers like Royal Caribbean (RCL). We'll talk about how to draw support and resistance lines, how to identify a rolling stock, and how to know when you should buy and sell a stock. The tickers I'm going to be talking about today include DBX, MSFT, PANW, ANET, CRWD, VRTX, ARM, FTAI, TMHC, ERPT, CCL, and GPK. There are a lot of financial benefits to trading with options instead of stocks. And you may not know what I mean by that, but you can go out to tradeway.com and learn all about how to do that there. Options cost less, and can generate more profitable trades with better risk/reward trade-offs. I'm a huge fan of them. Dear Johnny, My name is Shelby and I work full time and I'm also a student. I'm writing for help because I have an emergency. A few days ago our service animal, Luna (a husky), was playing in the yard and fell and injured her knee. We rushed her to the emergency vet and found out she needs a TPLO surgery (tibial plateau osteotomy). She has a dislocated kneecap and torn CCL (puppy version of an ACL). Her surgery costs $3800 to repair and we just don't have it. Luna is a big part of our family, and more than that, she is my service dog. In May, I was having severe headaches and was diagnosed with a brain tumor that effects my vision. It's a pituitary adenoma about the size of a large gumball. It's not cancerous, but it suppresses my adrenal gland and can cause seizures and severe drops in blood pressure. I may have to have surgery, but for now I'm on medication to regulate it. Luna is trained and certified as an alert dog for seizures and blood pressure alerts, and I love her and need her. I can't do without her. Thanks for reading my letter and for any help you can give. I can provide any documentation or vet estimate you need. Thank you, Shelby Who Helped: Amy, Jeff & Tracy, Pete & Pipefitters 533, Derek, Tammy How You Helped: Paid for Luna's veterinary surgery, pet ramp

We are halfway through our first climate month on the Outdoor Minimalist podcast, and in episode 154, we explore the intersection of outdoor advocacy and climate action.  To me, loving the outdoors means more than just enjoying nature– it means standing up for it in all aspects of my life.  In a polarizing political climate, it can be difficult to know how to use your voice and if it will be heard at all. But that's why we're discussing how outdoor enthusiasts can amplify their voices in policy discussion and why action across all levels of government is necessary for achieving climate solutions.  The outdoor industry can step up its role in climate advocacy. And whether you're a seasoned activist or just starting out, my guest, Bill Barron, provides actionable steps to engage in the climate movement because, after all, we are all in this to create a better outdoor space as we recreate.  Bill Barron an Alta ski patroller of 24 years, has blended his passion for the outdoors with advocating for meaningful bi-partisan action on climate change- including 5 climate advocacy bike tours. Bill is a three time single-issue federal climate candidate, founded the first Utah Citizens' Climate Lobby (CCL) Chapter in Salt Lake City 2010, and has been the Mountain West Regional Director for CCL since 2013 covering MT, WY, UT, CO, NM, AZ and NV. Citizens' Climate Lobby- is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, grassroots advocacy climate change organization with 231K volunteers organized into over 375 chapters around the country, focused on national policies to address the national and global climate crisis. Our consistently respectful, nonpartisan approach to climate education is designed to create a broad, sustainable foundation to drive climate action across all geographic regions and political inclinations. By building upon shared values rather than partisan divides, and empowering individuals to work in keeping with the concerns of their local communities, we advocate for the adoption of fair, effective, and sustainable climate change solutions. The confluence of three external forces may present an opportunity in the next Congress for a carbon price. However, those external forces also constrain the opportunity such that if something passes, it will look different from the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act. This webinar will explore how those three forces constrain the debate, what that means for CCL's priorities, and most importantly, for the climate. To further enhance our discussion, we'll also be hearing from one of the Hamilton Project's authors of the Climate tax policy reform options in 2025.
