"มหาปรินิพพานสูตร" ในเอพิโสดนี้ เป็นเหตุการณ์ต่อมาหลังจากที่พระพุทธเจ้าทรงปลงอายุสังขารแล้ว ได้ตรัสแก่พระอานนท์ถึงเรื่องของบริษัท 8 อภิภายตนะ 8 วิโมกข์ 8 และได้ตรัสเล่าเรื่องของมาร ที่มาทูลให้ปรินิพพาน ซึ่งพระองค์ก็ได้ตรัสตอบแก่มารไปว่า "จงอย่ากังวล อีกไม่นานการปรินิพพานของตถาคตจะมี จากนี้ไปอีก 3 เดือน" พระอานนท์ได้มาทูลอ้อนวอนขอให้ทรงดำรงพระชนมชีพอยู่ต่อไปถึง 3 ครั้ง แต่พระองค์ทรงปฏิเสธ เพราะการที่ตถาคตจะกลับคืนคำเพียงเพราะเหตุต้องการมีอายุอยู่ต่อไปนั้น ไม่เป็นสิ่งที่จะเป็นไปได้เลย และได้ทรงแสดงอานุภาพของอิทธิบาท 4 ประการอีกครั้ง เพื่อให้ทราบว่าเรื่องนี้เป็นความบกพร่องของพระอานนท์เองที่ไม่ได้อาราธนาให้พระองค์ทรงดำรงพระชนม์อยู่ต่อ แม้ทรงทำนิมิตที่ชัดแจ้งไว้ในหลายวาระ จากนั้นได้เสด็จไป ณ กูฏาคารศาลา ป่ามหาวันทรงแสดง อภิญญาเทสิตธรรม หรือที่เรียกว่า โพธิปักขิยธรรม 37 ประการ  (สติปัฏฐาน 4  สัมมัปปธาน 4 อิทธิบาท 4  อินทรีย์ 5  พละ 5  โพชฌงค์ 7 และอริยมรรคมีองค์ 8 ) และ สังเวชนียธรรม (ธรรมอันเป็นที่ตั้งแห่งความสังเวช) แล้วทรงเตือนภิกษุทั้งหลายให้ตั้งอยู่ในความไม่ประมาท  หลังจากนั้นได้เสด็จออกจากกรุงเวสาลีไปยังภัณฑุคาม ทรงตรัสสอนถึงการไม่รู้แจ้งแทงตลอดธรรม 4 ประการ ที่ทำให้ต้องเที่ยวเร่ร่อนไปตลอดกาลอันยาวนานอย่างนี้ ต่อจากนั้นได้เสด็จไปยังเมืองต่าง ๆ ตามลำดับ จนมาถึงโภคนคร ได้ทรงแสดงมหาปเทส 4 ประการ (ข้ออ้างที่สำคัญ) และจบมหาปรินิพพานสูตร ตอนที่ 3 ตรงเหตุการณ์ที่ทรงเสด็จไปถึงกรุงปาวา ได้ประทับอยู่ที่อัมพวัน (สวนมะม่วง) ของนายจุนทกัมมารบุตร  แนะนำรับฟังเพิ่มเติมได้ที่ Playlists: คลังพระสูตร S08E08 , ขุดเพชรในพระไตรปิฎก S03E14 , #อภิญญาเทสิตธรรม หรือ โพธิปักขิยธรรม 37   #2019-4s0930 Support the show.
