Episode 8: Angie Greene Angie Greene comes from Australian sporting royalty. But growing up, her extensive association with the world of men's sport and seeing how her brother Brent – who came out to her when she was 13 years old – was treated in sport, school and life, set her on a path and passion for inclusion. Angie is now an anti-discrimination activist and CEO of Stand Up Events, a not-for-profit dedicated to fighting sexual and gender discrimination in Australian sport. She wears her heart on her sleeve and in this incredibly raw episode, explains why she is unapologetic for fighting for what she believes in, and has some thoughts on how we can all stand up for the things that matter most. I finally convinced the mysterious Ang (spelling debated in the episode haha) to come on the show and tell her story. I've had so many requests to hear from Ang so here she is in all her hilarious glory. While we have heard from many incredible guests who are well on their way to seizing their yay, Ang is just 22 and at the very beginning of her journey so I thought it would make for something a little different to have a younger guest on the show. Having said that, she has nonetheless squeezed more into her life than people decades older than her which is part of what makes her so interesting. While she is studying physio full time at uni and absolutely loves all things science and anatomy, she has also built and recently sold her own food truck business, created a solo charity ride from Adelaide to Melbourne covering 800km on her bicycle to raise $22,000 for Stand Up Events combating homophobia and discrimination, started boxing from scratch and trained for her first fight where she won by technical knock out after just 1 and a half rounds, tried out for fun but successfully been listed in the VFLW for this year, worked across many different businesses and industries now going freelance in creative and digital marketing and that's just half of it. You can see why she's such a motivating and life loving person to be around. While we met through our businesses, she is one of our closest friends and a human ray of sunshine. You can tell we get a bit off track from time to time probably forgetting we were recording and not just chatting between mates, but hopefully you enjoy nonetheless. + Announcements on Insta at @spoonful_of_sarah + Subscribe to not miss out on the next instalment of YAY!

If you were even slightly inspired by the celebrations around the nation when same sex marriage was legalised in the Australian parliament recently, then you will be nothing but inspired by Angie Green. Angie is the CEO of Stand Up Events and she has been working to achieve equality for all Australians since she can remember. Neil and Will are of course there to learn throughout a fascinating conversation on where we are as a society in recognising everyone as being equal.

Warning: This episode contains language that some people may find offensive or distressing. Show Description Angie Greene's been surrounded by Professional Sport since she was a young kid. Her Pop, Frank Sedgman was a champion tennis player, her dad Russell is in the Australian Football League Hall of Fame, and her two brothers were, and are talented athletes. Their sports journeys though have been very different. Steve went on to play AFL football at the highest level for 5 years. Brent however, removed himself from team sport altogether because of the homophobic language he'd hear on the sports field and in sports environments in general. Angie saw what her brother was going through, over many years. Add in the sexism, and racism, and she didn't want to be part of sporting environments either. That was till she started, Stand Up Events, an organisation that's challenging sexual and gender discrimination in sport.
