I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.” Bishop Sheen quote of the day

Imagine standing up from a chair and feeling a sudden wave of dizziness, as though the floor beneath you has shifted. For many older adults, this is more than just an occasional inconvenience, it's a recurring problem linked to a condition called postural hypotension. Despite being relatively common, postural hypotension is surprisingly overlooked. It affects between 20-30% of older adults living in the community, yet is officially recorded in only about 1% of patients' medical records in general practice. That gap is vast, and it carries real consequences: increased risks of falls, strokes, heart problems, and reduced quality of life.

Has this been a shorter-than-usual legislative session at Queen's Park? Does it even matter? Hosts Steve Paikin and John Michael McGrath find out, discuss whether they're convinced by the reasons of the earlier recess and what impact this shorter session could have. Then, Steve and JMM look at how MPP Will Bouma has been ousted as the Progressive Conservatives' caucus chair; Bouma was relieved after challenging Premier Doug Ford over MPP pensions and the fallout from Ford's private jet scandal. Steve and JMM take the opportunity to look at whether this is good caucus management. Also, this being Indigenous History Month, the show features a bit of MPP Sol Mamakwa's latest speech in the Ontario Legislature, which brought Oji-Cree to Queen's Park and had a notable call to action for Indigenous youth. And finally, in "Your Column, My Column," JMM highlights where democratic reform might be necessary outside of electoral reform, and Steve looks at ways to rejuvenate 24 Sussex Drive.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The subject is recantation: the coerced word, the public taking back of a belief by a person who has been given no real choice. We use the word recant without hearing what is buried inside it. It comes from the Latin for singing again. To recant is to sing your own song over, backward, in front of the people who marched you to the microphone. A confession of error that someone else wrote. An apology the speaker does not mean, in a room where everyone knows he does not mean it. The act has a sound, and the sound is a voice saying the opposite of what its owner believes, out loud, so the saying can be witnessed. Once you start listening for that sound, you hear it everywhere.

You know, President Donald Trump's 1.776 billion-dollar MAGA slush fund? The fund is intended for victims of "DOJ weaponization," like the January 6 insurrectionists Trump pardoned. Shockingly, very few people support it. And now former Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn and a colleague, actual victims of the January 6 insurrection, are suing the Trump administration to put a stop to this fund. Jane speaks with Dunn about the slush fund, his lawsuit, and why it's so important to him to stand up for what actually happened that day.And in headlines: Trump has yet another physical, Republicans' redistricting war takes a hit, and the Trump administration thinks it may be a good idea to have federal employees sign NDAs. Bill interviews former Tennessee Republican Senator Lamar Alexander about his memoir, The Education of a Senator: From JFK to Trump, and the Senate's decline from bipartisan, amendment-driven lawmaking to today's gridlock. Alexander criticizes Republican senators for failing to check abuses of presidential authority, argues Trump's purges of GOP incumbents risk costing him a Senate majority, and calls a DOJ compensation fund for January 6 participants “Trump suing Trump” and an outrage, given assaults on Capitol Police. He contrasts Senate pushback in Trump's first term with silence in the second, including cuts affecting USAID/PEPFAR and NIH research. Alexander says January 6 undermined the Constitution, praises public service as the best way to help people, prefers being governor to senator, and expresses confidence in America's resilience. You can buy his book from Bookshop.org here. When we think about exercise that improves balance and agility, most of us picture standing workouts like yoga, squats, balance boards, maybe even tai chi. But new research published in the journal PLOS ONE suggests something surprising - you may be able to improve your balance while lying flat on your back. The researchers found that just 10 minutes a day of simple floor-based exercises improved people's balance and side-to-side agility in as little as two weeks. Humans are actually built in a fairly awkward way. Our centre of gravity sits high in the body, around the chest area, balanced above a relatively tiny base: our feet. In engineering terms, we are basically top-heavy towers wobbling around on two narrow supports. To stay upright, the body constantly coordinates signals between the core muscles, hips, legs, ankles, and nervous system. When that coordination weakens, balance problems, injuries, falls, and back pain can follow. Most exercise programs focus on strengthening either the 'core' or the legs separately. But researchers wanted to test something different: what happens if you train the body to coordinate both systems together? The researchers designed a simple routine performed entirely in a lying-down position. Participants lay on their backs and completed a short series of movements including: Gentle abdominal tightening Small pelvic lifts similar to mini bridges Controlled heel slides Ankle flexing Toe movements resembling a “rock-paper-scissors” motion The routine was low intensity, required no equipment, and took only about 10 minutes to complete. Participants repeated the exercises daily for two weeks. After the program, participants showed measurable improvements in balance and agility. Researchers observed: Reduced body wobbling while standing still Better stability with feet close together Faster side-to-side stepping movements Interestingly, participants did not become significantly stronger or more powerful. That suggests the improvements likely came from the nervous system becoming better at coordinating the body, essentially improving communication between the trunk and legs. It seems like the exercises may have trained the body to work smarter, not necessarily harder. Balance is one of those abilities we rarely think about until we begin losing it. Because the routine is gentle and performed lying down, it could potentially help: Older adults People recovering from injury Those with limited mobility People intimidated by traditional exercise Anyone wanting a low-impact daily routine This study highlights something scientists are increasingly discovering about the human body: small, consistent movements can have surprisingly meaningful effects.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

"Freedom is rarely understood by people who have never had to fight for it." Freedom is rarely understood by people who have never had to fight for it. Real freedom demands courage, sacrifice, and the willingness to challenge systems that silence truth. This episode explores the tension between propaganda and reality, the responsibility of honest journalism, and why so many people living comfortably in the West misunderstand what oppressive regimes actually look like. The conversation also examines how social media, public opinion, and political narratives shape the way global conflicts are perceived. Virag Guylas shares how her background in international relations, Middle Eastern studies, and journalism led her to speak directly with Iranians both inside and outside Iran to better understand the current situation. She discusses the importance of fact-checking, resisting sensationalism, and listening to ordinary people rather than influencers or political agendas. The discussion also touches on freedom movements, media integrity, feminism in Iran, and the growing divide between lived experience and online activism. Virag is a Hungarian journalist, communications consultant, and digital media strategist based in New York City. With academic studies in EU law, international relations, and Middle Eastern and Jewish studies, she focuses heavily on geopolitics, freedom movements, and cultural issues impacting Europe, the Middle East, and the Western world. Richland County, Ohio used to be a major manufacturing hub. Now, as the plants have closed, residents are looking to renewable energy to revive jobs and development. There's just one problem: their board of county commissioners issued a blanket ban on large-scale solar and wind projects last summer, bringing those efforts to a halt. Now, residents are waging a historic fight to overturn the ban. In this episode, host Gloria Riviera speaks with two locals behind the campaign: Brian McPeek, Business Manager and Financial Secretary of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and Shayna Fritz, the Executive Director for the Ohio Conservative Energy Forum. Together, they break down what's at stake, from job development and homegrown energy to the rights of farmers and landowners to earn a living from their property, and how Richland County can be a model for communities across the country to shape their energy futures. In this powerful and deeply human episode of the BOSS Podcast, Amy sits down with physician advocate Kim Downey — a three-time cancer survivor whose life changed after the tragic loss of her radiologist to suicide. What began as personal grief became a national mission to support physician wellbeing. Together, they explore the hidden emotional cost of practicing medicine, the culture of emotional suppression doctors are trained into, and why physicians must be seen — and supported — as human beings, not superheroes. Kim shares how her advocacy work, including the Stand Up for Doctors and her book White Coats Human Hearts, helps physicians feel less alone while educating patients and communities about the realities of medical practice. This episode is a moving conversation about grief, gratitude, complications, physician families, and the healing power of connection. If you've ever wondered who takes care of the doctors — this conversation is for you.

Standing Up for Freedom Britain had Brexit, Canada had their truckers' convoy, Dutch had their farmers protest, the US had its truck convoy, and now Ireland has citizens standing up against their overreaching government. While governments believe that what they do is legal, there is a big difference between something being legal and being ethical or moral. We discuss the citizens standing up against the building of data centers in their local area. While many city councils and township trustees may ignore their constituents, there are some serious ramifications to consider regarding these centers. While the powers that be think that they have to be the first country to have autonomous AI, and that it is an "existential threat" if they aren't, there are factors they are not considering and many unintended consequences that will also be a problem. We are moving toward smaller government, and the governments are fighting back. It will take the citizens standing up together to keep their freedom intact. For those who are taking steps to protect freedom, thank you! Sponsors: American Gold Exchange Our dealer for precious metals & the exclusive dealer of Real Power Family silver rounds. This week on Breaking Battlegrounds, we dive into the growing power struggle between Congress and the presidency, the future of the filibuster, and one of the most heated debates in sports today. Jason Willick (Washington Post columnist) joins us to break down his latest piece on military funding and war powers. Should Congress use its power of the purse to limit how military force is used? We discuss the constitutional challenges, the failures of the War Powers Act, and why the current system may actually encourage rushed military decisions—especially when it comes to Iran. X: https://x.com/jawillick Washington Post: https://www.washingtonpost.com/people/jason-willick/ In B's Corner, we tackle the tragic Athena Strand case and the broader debate around the death penalty, accountability, and whether justice in clear-cut cases should move faster. We also get into Trump's lasting political impact, the future of the GOP, and early 2028 speculation—including J.D. Vance and Marco Rubio. Norma Chávez-Peterson is a longtime organizer and civil rights leader who serves as Executive Director of the ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties, one of the region's leading voices on civil liberties and immigrant rights. Born in Michoacán, Mexico, and raised in San Diego, she brings lived experience and deep community roots to her work in the border region, where local realities often reflect broader national debates about democracy, belonging, and power. This Episode: What does courageous community leadership look like when civil liberties, immigrant rights, and democracy itself are under strain? In this episode, Norma and Grant examine how immigration enforcement is unfolding in this moment. Norma argues that today's tensions did not come out of nowhere, but grew from decades of failure to build a fair and humane immigration system. Together, they explore how federal overreach shows up locally, from high-profile enforcement actions to the quieter fear shaping daily life for families across the region. Just as importantly, Norma points to how communities are responding: neighbors looking out for one another, churches and schools finding ways to keep families safe, and everyday people stepping up to protect their communities. She reminds us that attacks on immigrants do not stop with immigrants alone, and that fear cannot be what guides us. Instead, she calls on all of us to focus on where we can make a difference, stay connected to one another, and act with courage and solidarity. Key Moments: [1:30] How the ACLU's local affiliate model stays rooted in community needs [7:27] Why today's immigration enforcement crisis has decades-deep roots [17:06] What increased ICE activity looks like in San Diego County [33:19] Why people and organizations need to focus where they can make a real difference [43:14] What courageous leadership looks like in this moment Resources Mentioned in This Episode: ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties – Defending and advancing civil rights and civil liberties in the border region Know Your Rights Red Cards – Practical tools to help immigrants assert their rights during encounters with immigration enforcement San Diego Organizing Project – Faith- and community-based organizing around justice and civic participation Standing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) – Organizing and training people, including white allies, to take action for racial justice CHIRLA – Immigrant rights organization providing advocacy, organizing, and legal services Take Action: Know Your Rights – Learn what protections people have during encounters with immigration enforcement. Send us Fan MailAfroman / Joseph Edgar Foreman turned lemons into lemonade (or was that Lemon Poundcake?) after police executed a search warrant on his home and were left without incriminating evidence, unless a few blunts is incriminating. Instead of complaining about that on social media and in letters to newspaper editors, rapper Joseph Foreman turned the camera onto police and included creating and performing songs about the incident, including his humorous "Lemon Poundcake" music video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xxK5yyecRo , featuring footage from Foreman's kitchen security camera, where he opines at how one of the law enforcement officers seems enticed by the lemon poundcake sitting out in the open. Talk about free advertising for the poundcake industry. Granted that Foreman, after the search, also made comments about various police officers involved with the search that they claimed was libelous, but their umbrage even at having their lawfully videotaped actions replayed to the world comes across as hubris. Numerous police officers as a group sued Foreman for defamation and privacy invasion. On March 19, 2026, after several hours of deliberation, the jury rightfully handed Foreman an essential First Amendment victory with a verdict in his favor. In this Beat the Prosecution episode, Fairfax criminal lawyer Jonathan Katz unveils the seeming mystery of Foreman's lawyer David Osborne, Jr. (at least for his having no website) and addresses David's hard work that resulted in this jury verdict that was by no means assured, based on the allegations of falsehoods being told by Foreman about numerous police officers. Good for David for focusing the jury on the very exaggerating way in which Foreman communicates, including with his flamboyant approach to dressing. The bottom line is that police serve the public, and not vice versa. Law enforcement officers should be careful in seeking and executing search warrants, when considering the havoc and invasion of privacy that such actions can cause, and should consider the extent to which a search warrant will not uncover any illegal activity. Police should not seek to intimidate people from exercising their First Amendment-protected free expression by suing them for lawful activity.
