It's The Ranch It Up Radio Show! Join Jeff Tigger Erhardt, Rebecca Wanner AKA BEC and their crew as we hear what we need to know and watch out for when it comes to New World Screwworm and what economically it could do if found in the country.  Plus, the latest news, market reports, the ranch channel sales calendar and lots more all wrapped into this brand-new episode of The Ranch It Up Radio Show.  Be sure to subscribe on your favorite podcasting app or on the Ranch It Up Radio Show YouTube Channel. Season 6, EPISODE 279 What Is New World Screwworm? The New World screw worm (NWS) is the larval stage of the fly Cochliomyia hominivorax. Unlike most fly maggots that feed on dead tissue, screw worm larvae feed on living tissue — making them especially dangerous to cattle and other livestock. The adult fly lays eggs in open wounds, including: Branding or castration sites Dehorning wounds Ear tag punctures Tick bites Navel cords of newborn calves Minor cuts or abrasions Once hatched, larvae burrow into flesh in a screw-like motion — hence the name “screw worm.” Why New World Screwworm Is A Major Threat To Cattle 1. Rapid Tissue Destruction Larvae feed aggressively on living tissue, enlarging wounds quickly. Untreated infestations can lead to: Severe tissue damage Secondary bacterial infections Reduced weight gain Decreased milk production Infertility in breeding stock Death in severe cases 2. High Economic Impact Historically, screw worm outbreaks have cost the livestock industry billions in: Treatment costs Production losses Increased labor Export restrictions Quarantine expenses The successful eradication program in the U.S. — led by the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service — is considered one of the greatest livestock pest control achievements in history. Signs Of Screwworm Infestation In Cattle Early detection is critical. Producers should watch for: Foul-smelling wounds Bloody discharge Sudden irritation or head shaking Reduced feed intake Visible maggots in wounds Rapid wound enlargement Infested cattle often isolate themselves and show signs of distress. Treatment Protocol For Infected Cattle If screw worm is suspected: Immediately isolate the animal Notify state animal health authorities Clean and flush the wound Apply approved larvicidal treatments Monitor closely for reinfestation Reporting is mandatory in many regions because screw worm is a regulated livestock pest. Prevention Strategies For Cattle Producers 1. Wound Management Best Practices Avoid elective procedures during peak fly season Use fly repellents and wound protectants Monitor surgical sites daily 2. Biosecurity Protocols Inspect newly purchased livestock Quarantine imported cattle Monitor wildlife activity around pastures 3. Seasonal Awareness Screw worm risk increases in: Warm climates High humidity Regions with cross-border cattle movement New World Screwworm Information Guide:  Click HERE Featured Experts in the Cattle Industry M.Wayne Ayers, DVM - Elanco Animal Health https://farmanimal.elanco.com/us Follow On Facebook: @ElancoUS   Kirk Donsbach – Financial Analyst at StoneX https://www.stonex.com/ Follow on Facebook: @StoneXGroupInc Shaye Wanner – Host of Casual Cattle Conversation https://www.casualcattleconversations.com/ Follow on Facebook: @cattleconvos Contact Us with Questions or Concerns Have questions or feedback? Should ATVs and UTVs Be Allowed in Road Ditches?

Do you own or enjoy ATVs, UTVs, and off-road motorcycles? Tune in for a discussion regarding how one US county is debating the ban of these Off-road Highway Vehicles from county road ditches, citing safety risks and property damage. Join radio hosts Rebecca Wanner aka ‘BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger' Erhardt (Tigger & BEC) with the latest in Outdoors & Western Lifestyle News! Why Is Ditch Riding So Controversial? The legality of driving ATVs, UTVs, and off-road motorcycles in county road ditches is a highly debated rural policy issue today. While these vehicles are generally prohibited from paved roads, ditch riding laws vary widely by township, county, and state. At the heart of the debate are concerns about safety, property rights, environmental impact, noise and economic effects. Safety Concerns OHVs such as ATVs, UTVs, and dirt bikes are designed for off-road terrain—not public right-of-ways. Critics argue that: Many OHVs lack standard roadway safety features. Their high center of gravity increases rollover risk. Riders may lose control on uneven ditch terrain. Proximity to vehicle traffic creates collision risks. Property and Environmental Damage Another major issue involves landowner responsibility and infrastructure damage. Ditch riding can: Create ruts and soil erosion Destroy landscaping Damage public right-of-way infrastructure Increase noise complaints Under North Dakota Century Code 63-05-01, adjoining landowners are responsible for cutting weeds and grasses along regularly traveled county and township highways—including vegetation within the public right-of-way. If OHVs damage those areas, landowners may still be legally obligated to maintain them, increasing frustration and cost among property owners. Economic and Community Impact Because laws vary significantly: Check Local Ordinances: Regulations differ by town, county, and state—and can change quickly. Use Designated Trails Only: Riding is typically restricted to clearly marked and approved areas. Understand Age Requirements: Youth operators must meet state licensing or certification requirements. A Decision That Impacts the Future of Rural Communities The debate over ditch riding isn't just about recreation—it's about balancing safety, property rights, environmental stewardship, and economic vitality. As county commissioners and townships consider whether to ban or strictly regulate OHVs in road ditches, the outcome could set a precedent for how rural communities manage off-road recreation in the years ahead. Napoleon Livestock Feeder Cattle Break Records Napoleon Livestock turned in a historic performance last week, rewriting the record books with 18 new barn records and an especially powerful showing in the 5-weight division. The highlight of the sale came in the 500-pound range. A draft of 54 head weighing 505 pounds sold for $567.50, followed by 29 head at 506 pounds for $560.00 and 18 head at 509 pounds for $557.50. Those sales now stand as the top three 5-weight prices in barn history. In total, five of the top ten all-time 5-weight prices were set in a single day. Momentum carried into the 4-weights, where 14 head at 472 pounds brought $580.00, helping place four new entries among the top ten 4-weight prices on record. The strength didn't stop there. In the 6-weights, 111 head at 619 pounds sold for $471.00 and 36 head at 621 pounds brought $470.00 — ranking among the top ten all-time, including the third- and fourth-highest 6-weight prices in barn history. Seven-weights also made headlines, as 25 head at 703 pounds sold for $420.00, marking the third-highest 7-weight price ever recorded at the barn. Heavier cattle followed suit. Steers weighing 807 to 820 pounds brought $375.00 to $376.00, earning the fifth-, sixth-, and seventh-highest 8-weight prices on record. In the 9-weights, 59 head at 928 pounds sold for $347.50, securing the sixth-highest price in barn history for that class. The sale will go down as one of the strongest in the history of the barn, with standout demand across nearly every weight category. Spring Summer 2026 Color Trends: Pantone Shades Worth Wearing

"The Colors Everyone Will Be Wearing in Spring 2026 (According to Pantone)" Fashion exhibitions, fearless color, and a little bit of "menopause mayhem." Just another stylish week on Wisdom From the Wardrobe. We kick things off, as always, with In the News, where Bec brings us word that the iconic Met Gala has announced its upcoming theme, "Costume Art." The exhibition explores the idea that the dressed body is a common thread across the entire museum collection, a reminder that clothing isn't just fashion, it's storytelling. From museum halls to the runways of New York Fashion Week, we then turn our attention to the Spring/Summer 2026 Pantone color trends, and this season's palette is anything but shy. According to the Pantone Color Institute, designers are pushing back against AI-driven sameness and leaning into bold personal expression. The result? A mix of comforting neutrals and vibrant statement shades that feel optimistic, expressive, and occasionally… a little chaotic. Think tones like Burnt Sienna and Coffee Bean, interesting shades like Muskmelon, soft romantic shades like Dusty Rose, and grounding hues like Marina and Sage Green. In other words, there's a color for every mood, including the occasional moment of what Stacy lovingly referred to as "menopause mayhem." In this episode, we break down the Spring Summer 2026 color trends, talk about which shades actually work in real life wardrobes, and share practical ways to incorporate trending colors without feeling like you're dressed as a Pantone swatch. Because great style isn't about wearing every trend. It's about knowing which ones deserve a spot in your closet. Expect plenty of laughs, a few honest opinions, and the usual reminder that personal style should be fun and not a paint-by-numbers exercise. If you've wondering which fashion color trends are worth trying (and which might be better left on the runway), this episode is your stylish cheat sheet.

When Getting Dressed Feels Emotional (And Why That's Normal)

Wisdom From the Wardrobe

A 1998 Yohji Yamamoto suit. A front row seat at New York Fashion Week. And the enduring mystique of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. This week on Wisdom From the Wardrobe, we begin with In the News as Bec unpacks the buzz around the upcoming TV drama Love Story, inspired by John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. In a fashion moment that felt almost cinematic, Violet Grey founder Cassandra Grey wore Carolyn's actual black Yohji Yamamoto suit from 1998 to sit front row at Khaite, just feet away from the actress portraying her. Proof that true style doesn't expire. It evolves. It echoes. Which leads us to this week's deeper conversation: When getting dressed feels emotional, and why that's completely normal. Because if you've ever stood in front of your closet feeling frustrated, disconnected, nostalgic, or "off," it's rarely about the blouse. Getting dressed is one of the first acts of identity we perform each day. It's how we signal who we are to the world and to ourselves. So, when life shifts career changes, aging, body changes, confidence shifts, new priorities, but the wardrobe hasn't caught up, friction happens. And that friction feels emotional. In this episode, we gently unpack the psychology of personal style: How clothing functions as identity signaling Why cognitive dissonance shows up when your closet reflects a past version of you The role of body perception and vulnerability in getting dressed How memory is embedded in fabric Why decision fatigue can amplify emotional reactions We also offer practical, calming tools, not corrective ones. From creating a "safe outfit" formula to making micro-adjustments instead of dramatic overhauls, this conversation is about removing shame and replacing it with curiosity. Because here's the reframe: If getting dressed feels emotional, it's usually not about clothes. It's about change. And change is growth. This episode blends a little fashion psychology, wardrobe mindset, and personal style evolution into a thoughtful conversation that reminds you: you haven't lost your style. You're just growing into a new one.

China withdrew export registrations in early March 2025 from most U.S. meat facilities, after the Trump administration slapped a series of tariffs on Chinese goods. The licenses were reissued within days for poultry and pork facilities but have remained expired for nearly all beef processors and exporters. Compared to 2024, beef exports by volume were down 12% last year to less than 1.14 million metric tons. The global export decline was nearly 150,000 metric tons, while the loss of volume to China was about 120,000 metric tons. Amid record global beef prices for much of last year, U.S. exports of beef were down 11% by value to $9.33 billion dollars, equivalent to the drop in sales to mainland China. A truce announced at the end of October in the trade war called for China to drop non-tariff barriers to U.S. goods, but the beef export registration issue remains. The U.S. Supreme Court ruling invalidated President Donald Trump's claim of unlimited emergency tariff powers, removing what the White House claimed was important negotiating leverage. Ryan, Bec, Gurdip and Justin pile in for a round table discussion on Baz Luhrmann's EPiC. You don't need us to tell you it's worth seeing or that it's good - there's no shortage of other opinions you've heard affirm both, so we just dive right in. We discuss our perspectives on how the film presents Elvis and his creative process, major sequences of significance, any insights we picked up along the way, as well as the contexts of our viewing experiences (including the responses of guests we took with us, and anecdotal demographics), and our major takeaways from this remarkable cinematic remix, not simply of Elvis's words and performances, but of the work left behind by Denis Sanders, Pierre Adidge and Bob Abel.  Finally, Justin wraps the episode with a sort-of Song of the Week, discussing how Baz Luhrmann's "Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)" provided him with some illumination as the Elvis fandom comes to reckon with EPiC as a new collaborative reinterpretation, unpacking the mindblowing critical reappraisal of Elvis' 1970s era in the media reviews of the film, examining a few criticisms of Luhrmann's 2022 film and EPiC from certain corners of the fandom, and bringing the "art vs archive" arc that he and Bec had begun last September after the Toronto premiere (episode 376) to a conclusion.  This episode contains excerpts from Rolling Stone Australia/New Zealand's interview with Baz Luhrmann, which we highly recommend watching in full on their YouTube channel.

The Nile monitor, a six-foot-long lizard native to Africa, is gaining ground in parts of the state. Wildlife officials say the species poses a serious threat to native animals, and it can now be killed year-round without a permit. Known for tackling invasive reptiles, trapper Mike Kimmel — also called the Python Cowboy — describes the Nile monitor as “like a python mixed with an iguana.” They're powerful, intelligent predators, similar to a smaller Komodo dragon. On Florida's west coast, especially in Cape Coral, biologists have been battling the species for nearly 20 years. Hundreds have been trapped, but pockets remain. That's concerning because Cape Coral is also home to Florida's largest population of the threatened Burrowing owl, which nests in the ground — making it vulnerable to predators like the Nile monitor. These lizards are carnivores. They eat fish, frogs, birds, eggs, small mammals — even young crocodiles — and have been known to attack chickens and small pets. They can grow up to 6.5 feet long, weigh nearly 20 pounds, run up to 18 miles per hour, and swim underwater for nearly an hour. Their ability to travel along canals and waterways has helped them spread. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is actively removing Nile monitors and urges residents to report any sightings. Wildlife officials warn: this is one invasive species South Florida can't afford to ignore. As a result, parts of Mexico have seen civil unrest in the wake of his death, including vehicles being torched and gunmen, believed to have supported the deceased, blocking highways in more than a dozen Mexico states. This is a great reminder that anytime traveling beyond the U.S. borders to utilize the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), a free service to U.S. citizens and nationals to enroll a trip abroad so that the Department of State can accurately and quickly contact in case of emergency. Benefits of STEP Updates about health, weather, safety and security for your destination. Plan ahead using information from the local U.S. embassy. Helps the embassy or consulate contact you if there is an emergency like a natural disaster, civil unrest, or a family emergency. Current Status: According to the U.S. Embassy & Consulates in Mexico website. Actions to Take: Seek shelter and minimize unnecessary movements. Avoid areas around law enforcement activity. Check @CAPUFE on X for status of road closures. Monitor local media for updates. Follow the directions of local authorities and in case of emergency, call 911. Keep family and friends advised of your location and well-being via phone, text, and social media. How To Be Travel Prepared Traveling abroad: Register in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program. Pack snacks such as microwave popcorn and small snacks. Stock your hotel room with extra bottled water and individually packaged snacks. Advise family and friends of location, length of trip and emergency contact information. Travel with extra medications as well as over the counter aides such as cold and fever meds. EPISODE 122 DETAILS Smaller Inventories Of Cattle On Feed According to Derrell Peel, Extension Livestock Marketing Specialist and Agricultural Economist with Oklahoma State University, the latest United States Department of Agriculture Cattle on Feed report placed feedlot inventories at 11.505 million head as of February 1. That total is 1.8 percent below year-ago levels and marks the fifteenth straight month of year-over-year declines. January placements fell 4.7 percent compared to last year, while marketings were down 13.0 percent, likely due in part to a winter storm late in the month that pushed some marketings into February. Overall, the report came in largely as expected and offered no significant surprises to the market. Peel also emphasized the structure of the cattle feeding sector. Of the nation's 26,082 feedlots, approximately 24,000 have capacities under 1,000 head. While these smaller operations make up 92 percent of all feedlots, they accounted for only 12.9 percent of total marketings in 2025, averaging fewer than 126 head sold per feedlot. Meanwhile, the 2,082 feedlots with capacities exceeding 1,000 head were responsible for 87.1 percent of the 23.483 million head marketed. Among them, just 7.1 percent — those with more than 32,000 head capacity — marketed 58.8 percent of fed cattle in 2025. In fact, the 82 largest feedlots, each with capacity above 50,000 head, marketed 8.39 million head combined, averaging more than 102,000 head per operation for the year. It's The Ranch It Up Radio Show! Join Jeff Tigger Erhardt, Rebecca Wanner AKA BEC and their crew as they hear where there is a new boss lady in town in this red angus outfit.  We head to the Dry Creek Ranch.  Plus updates on the Agridime cattle ponzi scheme, market recaps, the ranch channel sales calendar and lots more all wrapped into this brand new episode of The Ranch It Up Radio Show. Be sure to subscribe on your favorite podcasting app or on the Ranch It Up Radio Show YouTube Channel. Season 6, EPISODE 277 Dry Creek Ranch: Passion For Red Angus Dry Creek Ranch in Amidon, North Dakota, is a family-run Red Angus cattle operation that focuses on raising registered and commercial cattle, selling breeding bulls, and offering ranch-raised beef directly to customers. The ranch is operated by the Robison family and emphasizes practical, efficient cattle genetics and long-term herd improvement, with activities that include private-treaty sales and ranch-direct beef marketing. It's part of the western North Dakota ranching tradition, combining working-ranch livestock production with a direct connection to consumers and other cattle producers in the region. Current State Of The Beef Business Beef prices are climbing faster than almost anything else in the consumer price index. The broad beef and veal category is up 15 percent over the past year, as of January. Uncooked ground beef has hit a new record high, after posting its biggest jump since June of 2020, according to new government data released last Friday. That stands out against the rest of the grocery aisle, where price pressures have eased. Chicken prices rose just over 1 percent in the past year, while milk prices have stayed mostly flat. At the wholesale level, the average value of choice beef in 2025 was up 16 percent from the previous year, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Even major meatpackers like Tyson Foods are feeling the strain, with the company's beef division reporting quarterly losses since early 2024. The surge in beef prices has pushed the White House to respond. President Donald Trump has pledged to increase competition in beef processing and has expanded Argentine beef import quotas in an attempt to boost supply. But the situation is more complicated. The U.S. cattle herd has fallen to its smallest level since the early 1950's. Drought, higher production costs, and elevated interest rates have all made raising cattle more expensive. Don Close, a senior animal protein analyst at Terrain Ag, says the cattle industry is cyclical, but this downturn has lasted longer than expected. Right now, ranchers can make more money selling animals young for slaughter than keeping them to rebuild herds. And even if herd expansion started today, it wouldn't reach grocery store shelves until at least 2028 — meaning beef prices could stay high for years. Meanwhile, the U.S. has halted shipments of live cattle from Mexico following the return of the New World screwworm. Imports from South America may provide some relief, but those supplies are mostly used for ground beef and won't quickly solve the broader cattle shortage. And that is a quick snap shot of the current beef business Reference: https://fortune.com/2026/02/14/why-are-beef-prices-so-high-american-cattle-herd-inflation/ Five Federally Indicted For Alleged $220 Million Nationwide Cattle Fraud Scheme Five individuals were federally indicted last week for their roles in an alleged $220 million nationwide fraud scheme involving the online and direct-to-consumer meat business Agridime. Those indicted by a Fort Worth federal grand jury on February 11, 2026, were: Jed Wood of Fort Worth, Texas, charged with three counts of wire fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and one count of money laundering involving wiring more than $63,000 to a lender for “Home Payoff” Joshua Link of Strafford, Missouri, charged with ten counts of wire fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and two counts of money laundering, including wiring more than $527,000 to purchase real property Tia Link of Smithton, Missouri, charged with three counts of wire fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and one count of money laundering, including wiring more than $527,000 to purchase real property Taylor Bang of Killdeer, North Dakota, charged with eight counts of wire fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and one count of money laundering Royana Thomas of Arlington, Texas, charged with six counts of wire fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and one count of money laundering As alleged in the indictment, each of the defendants were associated with Agridime LLC, a business headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas that offered cattle sales and meat processing and retail services to the public.  Jed Wood served as the Operations Director.  Joshua Link served as the Executive Director.  Tia Link served as the Marketing Director.  Taylor Bang served as a cattle broker, and Royana Thomas served as the financial controller.  The indictment alleges that, from January 2021 through December 2023, the five defendants, acting through Agridime, perpetrated a fraud scheme in which they falsely represented to individual cattle purchasers, cattle ranchers, and feedlots that Agridime would use their funds to purchase specific individual cattle from each victim, raise the cattle, and eventually sell the meat from the same specific individual cattle for a profit.   In reality, as the indictment charges, the defendants did not use victim funds as promised and instead used newer cattle purchaser funds to pay Agridime operating expenses, pay funds owed by Agridime to earlier cattle purchasers, pay personal expenses, and purchase real property.  Reference: https://www.tsln.com/news/five-federally-indicted-for-alleged-220-million-nationwide-cattle-fraud-scheme-one-is-fugitive-on-fbi-wanted-list/ Featured Experts in the Cattle Industry Haley Robison - Dry Creek Ranch https://www.drycreekranchnd.com/ Follow On Facebook: @drycreekranchnd Kirk Donsbach – Financial Analyst at StoneX https://www.stonex.com/ Follow on Facebook: @StoneXGroupInc Shaye Wanner – Host of Casual Cattle Conversation https://www.casualcattleconversations.com/ Follow on Facebook: @cattleconvos Contact Us with Questions or Concerns Have questions or feedback? From Robert Duvall's legacy and impact on Westerns to Adventures with me, Rebecca Wanner  aka BEC to then insight on why March is the best month to visit Yellowstone National Park. Stories of the West, travel, and adventure are on the schedule! Join radio hosts Rebecca Wanner aka ‘BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger' Erhardt (Tigger & BEC) with the latest in Outdoors & Western Lifestyle News! Honoring the Godfather of Westerns, Exploring Life on the Trail with Rebecca Wanner, and Discovering the Best Time to Visit Yellowstone National Park Robert Duvall (1931–2026): The Godfather of Westerns Robert Duvall, 1931 - 2026, passed at age 95 on his horse farm in Virginia. Leaving a legacy on the silver screen from To Kill A Mocking Bird, The Godfather, to winning an Oscar for Tender Mercies… He had a love for westerns and horsemanship. Early in his career, Duvall noticed that actors in movies didn't have the right “seat” when riding horses and hence stunt doubles were relied upon. On his own accord, Duvall took up horseback riding and learning from those that taught stunt doubles, proper horsemanship which led to him owning a farm, raising horses and performing his own stunts for the movies.  Thanks to movies such as a cameo in the original “True Grit” to the epic mini-series “Lonesome Dove” and “Open Range”... Some have dubbed Robert Duvall as the Godfather of Westerns. How well do you know our, by far, favorite movie - Lonesome Dove where Duvall played Captain Augustus “Gus” McCrae, a Texas Ranger turned cattle rancher, a role that would earn him a Golden Globe How old was Robert Duvall during the production of Lonesome Dove? 58 years old Duvall starred alongside which actor in the epic Western Lonesome Dove? Tommy Lee Jones Tommy Lee Jones, another actor who was an experienced horseman that refused to use a stunt double in the movie. Favorite "Lonesome Dove" quotes by Augustus 'Gus' McCrae, Robert Duvall “It ain't dying I'm talking about, it's living.” “We don't rent pigs” "Any man who does rent pigs is....... he's hard to stop." "By God, Woodrow, it's been quite a party." “Ain't nothing better than riding a fine horse in new country.” Another favorite movie that introduced Robert Duvall to a whole new generation was “Secondhand Lion”. Highly recommended family film… and a quote  that stands out from these old bachelor uncles was Duvall, “We're old, Damnit. Leave us alone.” Adventures of Rebecca Wanner aka BEC Our host, Rebecca 'BEC' Wanner, of The Bend Show shares adventures on her bucket list and stories of past adventures. We learn that she has a fear of heights, so flying an ultra-light plane will not be happening. Rebecca Wanner aka BEC has done snorkeling and hopes to gain her scuba license some day. Adventure wise she shares her own version of Planes, Train, & Automobiles when attempting to fly home from a summer abroad only to be left backpacking, hopping trains, outrunning security guards to finally find her way home at the age of 20 before smartphones thus no cellphones either. Fun Stories! YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK: Why is March the best month to visit? Spring is when bison calves are born, and bears with cubs start to emerge from hibernation. The vegetation in March is still thin, so elk and moose are easier to spot. March is also one of the best months to see wolves in Lamar Valley. Plus no crowds, due to chances for snow and colder temperatures. Open year-round: North Entrance (Gardiner, MT) to Northeast Entrance (Cooke City, MT) A quick google search will show that there are multiple tours throughout the off-season in Yellowstone. Because interior park roads are closed to private vehicles, popular guided options include snow coach tours, snowmobile tours, and educational wildlife safaris. Same goes for visiting the Grand Tetons. Sit back, do a tour and take in the scenery! OUTDOORS FIELD REPORTS & COMMENTS We want to hear from you! EPISODE 121 DETAILS U.S. Ranchers Say No To Argentina Beef President Donald Trump's new beef trade deal with Argentina could increase imports by as much as 80,000 tons this year — a move that's raising red flags for some U.S. ranchers. The agreement takes effect today. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins is defending the decision, saying critics are missing the bigger picture. She argues the additional imports are focused on ground beef and are intended to help bring down prices at the grocery store — noting that ground beef is not the primary product most U.S. ranchers produce. But not everyone is on board. State agriculture leaders from North Dakota to Texas are pushing back. North Dakota Farmers Union President Matt Perdue says cattle producers in his state are disappointed. He argues the deal is unlikely to significantly lower consumer prices and warns it could put added pressure on domestic producers. Meanwhile, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller is calling for a stronger “America First” approach, especially as the U.S. cattle herd sits at historic lows. Miller says the priority should be rebuilding America's cattle numbers and expanding domestic processing capacity to keep ranchers competitive. He's also voiced  concern about expanding Argentine beef imports at a time when U.S. producers are already facing tight supplies. Looking ahead, Miller says the next Farm Bill must firmly support American ranchers, and he's outlining proposals aimed at strengthening the cattle industry for the long term. Join Jeff Tigger Erhardt, Rebecca Wanner AKA BEC and their crew as they hear about a seedstock supplying partnership that works and works well.  Plus updates on beef imported from Argentina, market recaps, the ranch channel sales calendar and lots more all wrapped into this brand new episode of The Ranch It Up Radio Show. Be sure to subscribe on your favorite podcasting app or on the Ranch It Up Radio Show YouTube Channel. Industry Associations React To Beef Imported From Argentina President Trump issued a proclamation titled “Ensuring Affordable Beef for the American Consumer,” increasing the in-quota import of lean beef trimmings from Argentina by 80,000 metric tons in 2026 to help lower ground beef prices. U.S. Cattlemen's Association (USCA) President Justin Tupper said the group has been engaged with the Administration since expanded imports were first proposed in October 2025. While USCA supports efforts to stabilize supply, Tupper emphasized that a strong domestic cattle industry is essential and warned that trade agreements must not undermine U.S. producers or supply integrity. Tupper expressed concern over the scale and origin of the imports, noting Argentina faces tight cattle supplies similar to the U.S. He said the roughly 400% increase should be treated as a one-time exception, not a precedent, and urged stronger rules of origin and labeling so consumers know where their beef comes from. R-CALF echoed these concerns, stating that past increases in beef imports from countries such as Argentina and Brazil failed to reduce consumer prices. Instead, they correlated with a shrinking U.S. cattle herd, fewer domestic producers, and ultimately higher beef prices. Alpine Skiing:  Hang onto truck while wearing cowboy boots. Biathlon:  Shooting coyotes... aka Predator Control! Michigan's Shortest Fishing Season Ends in Just 48 Minutes Michigan's 2026 Black Lake sturgeon fishing season came and went fast — really fast. The season opened at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, and wrapped up just 48 minutes later when the six-fish quota was reached in Cheboygan and Presque Isle counties. According to the Department of Natural Resources, anglers landed fish starting at 8:07 a.m., with the final sturgeon harvested right at 8:48. In total, 679 anglers were registered, all competing in what's known as the shortest fishing season in the state. The largest catch was a 67-inch female sturgeon weighing just over 79 pounds. The other five fish ranged from about 53 to 64 inches long, weighing between 40 and 78 pounds. Each angler was allowed to keep just one fish and had to report it immediately. The season automatically closed once the sixth fish was taken, with anglers alerted by text and by DNR staff on the ice. Black Lake's sturgeon season is famous for its speed. Last year it lasted only 17 minutes, while in 2023 it stretched to just over an hour. In 2024, the season was canceled entirely because of unsafe ice. Lake sturgeon are among the oldest fish species in the Great Lakes, and their numbers dropped sharply in the past due to overfishing and habitat loss. Strict regulations and decades of restoration work have helped rebuild the population, allowing Michigan to continue this tightly controlled, blink-and-you-miss-it fishing tradition. Reference: https://www.woodtv.com/news/michigan/2026-lake-sturgeon-season-takes-48-minutes-to-hit-limit/ Duck Hunters Rescued After Becoming Trapped in Frozen Maryland River A dramatic helicopter rescue occurred January 31 when six duck hunters became stranded in the frozen Nanticoke River in Maryland on the final day of duck season. Natural Resources Police and Wildlife and Heritage Service crews were called out around 6:30 p.m. after the hunters' boat became inoperable in icy conditions. Temperatures were in the teens and low 20s, with strong winds, and thick ice prevented local fire crews from reaching them by water or boat ramp. Officials believe the hunters had completed their hunt and were heading back when they ran into trouble — either mechanical issues or ice that moved in after the shoot. A helicopter crew was already nearby but decided it was too dangerous to hoist the hunters due to high winds. Instead, rescuers launched an airboat from a nearby campground. The river is about a half-mile wide at that location, a well-known but risky late-season duck hunting area. All six hunters were safely brought back in two trips, checked by EMS, and returned to their vehicles. While it's unclear what happened to their boat — or whether they harvested any ducks — officials say it's a last-day hunt the group won't forget, and one they were fortunate to survive. Season 6, EPISODE 275 Safe & Effective Cattle Handling Practices:  Protecting People and Livestock Safe cattle handling practices are critical for worker safety, animal welfare, and overall operation efficiency. Most cattle-handling injuries are preventable by understanding cattle behavior, using proper facilities, and applying low-stress handling techniques. Why Safe Cattle Handling Matters Poor handling increases the risk of injuries, cattle stress, reduced performance, and economic loss. Calm cattle are healthier, easier to manage, and safer for everyone involved. Key Safe Cattle Handling Practices Understand the flight zone and point of balance Move cattle calmly—avoid yelling or excessive pressure Work cattle in small groups Maintain clear escape routes Use well-designed, non-slip handling facilities Focus on Low-Stress Handling Low-stress cattle handling improves safety, reduces illness, and boosts performance. Using cattle behavior—not force—creates smoother flow and fewer accidents. Training Is Essential Even good facilities can't replace proper training. Production Animal Consultation helps producers identify risks, improve cattle flow, and train crews using science-based, practical handling methods. Bottom Line Safe cattle handling protects people, improves animal welfare, and strengthens your operation. Working with experts like Production Animal Consultation helps ensure your cattle are handled safely, efficiently, and humanely—every day. Check out Production Animal Consultation HERE. This week we share how Utah is in a cougar debate tied to declining deer herds.  We have fun with Real versus AI-generated stories. Plus how there is value in FFA and 4H, exploring key issues shaping our future youth. Join radio hosts Rebecca Wanner aka ‘BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger' Erhardt (Tigger & BEC) with the latest in Outdoors & Western Lifestyle News! Utah Cougar Cull Sparks Tension as State Studies Mule Deer Declines Utah Cougar Cull Sparks Tension with Hunters & Houndsmen as State Studies Deer Declines Utah wildlife managers have launched a three-year study that involves culling mountain lions in six game management units to see whether reducing cougar numbers will help struggling mule deer herds. While the goal is more deer on the landscape, many of Utah's houndsmen say the plan puts their dogs, their livelihoods, and the future of lion hunting at risk. State biologists say cougar predation is exceeding sustainable levels in parts of Utah, with some units seeing more than eight percent—and in some cases double-digit—deer losses to lions. The study focuses on the Boulder, Monroe, Stansbury, Pine Valley, Wasatch East, and Zion units, where state-run trapping efforts are now being added on top of already legal year-round lion hunting. That's where the concern comes in for houndsmen and from hunters. The Utah Houndsmen Association opposes the study, warning that state-set traps and snares create dangerous conditions for hounds and discourage outfitters from turning dogs loose. Houndsmen are asking the state to release trap location maps so they can hunt safely and continue doing the hands-on, ethical predator management they've provided for generations. Supporters of the study, including several major conservation groups, say the data is needed. Mule deer have been collared across the study units, and early observations show poor body condition in some animals. Funding for the research is coming from sportsmen-driven organizations, and some groups are taking a wait-and-see approach before judging the results. Critics of predator management argue that habitat loss and winter severity are the real problems behind deer declines. But state officials point out that while habitat issues affect much of Utah, roughly 30 percent of the state appears to be dealing with a true predator-driven, top-down problem—something the legislature has directed wildlife managers to address. For houndsmen, the bigger issue may be perception. At a time when lion hunting faces pressure across the West, they worry this study could hand ammunition to anti-hunting groups and further threaten a tradition built around trained dogs, fair chase, and hands-on conservation. The debate puts Utah's houndsmen squarely in the middle—supporting healthy deer herds and sound science, while fighting to protect their dogs, their way of life, and the future of cougar hunting. How Much Should Producers Spend On Breeding Bulls Jon DeClerck, the Executive Vice President of the American Simmental Association, went to social media tackling the issue of how much should producers pay for their next breeding bulls this year.  According to his research, he claims breeding bull prices in relation to feeder cattle are undervalued.  Here is what he said “A lot of folks are talking about record bull prices, and rightly so. The cattle market has pushed to historic highs in 2025, and it's good to see seedstock producers, who've been fueling genetic progress for commercial cattlemen, also being rewarded. That said, when you step back and look at the data, it tells an important story. Even though average bull prices are the highest we've ever seen, bulls are still undervalued relative to the current market landscape. Right now, the average bull still costs roughly 2.5 feeder calves, which is below long-term norms. In other words: Bull prices are high But bull value, relative to feeder calf prices, remains discounted Genetics remain one of the best long-term investments any producer can make. Even at today's prices, the market is still telling us that bulls are undervalued relative to the return they generate.” Upcoming Feeder Cattle, Bull & Cow Sales On RanchChannel.Com Lots of feeder cattle, steers & heifers, bulls, and cow sales coming up on the RanchChannel.Com sale calendar.  Check out the full line up HERE. The top social engineering attacks involve manipulating human psychology to gain access to sensitive information or systems. The most prevalent methods include various forms of phishing, pretexting, and baiting, which are often used as initial entry points for more complex attacks like business email compromise (BEC) and ransomware deployment. How do you control what users click on? Even with integrated email solutions, like Microsoft 365, you can't control what they click on. They see a convincing email, are in a rush, or are simply distracted. Next thing you know, they enter their credentials, approve the MFA prompt—and just like that, the cybercriminals get in with full access to users' accounts. Is there anyway to stop this? Rob Allen, Chief Product Officer at ThreatLocker, joins Business Security Weekly to discuss how ThreatLocker Cloud Control leverages built-in intelligence to assess whether a connection from a protected device originates from a trusted network. By only allowing users from IP addresses and networks deemed trusted by ThreatLocker to get in—phishing and token theft attacks are rendered useless. So, no matter how successful cybercriminals are with their phishing attacks and token thefts—all their efforts are useless now. This segment is sponsored by ThreatLocker.
