State & National Records Broken For Feeder Cattle Green City Livestock Marketing hosted its Annual Beef BBQ Customer Appreciation event with a powerhouse two-day sale that drew intense buyer demand and showcased top-tier cattle. Widely regarded as one of the most exceptional sales in the barn's history, the event shattered records at every level—posting 35 all-time barn records, 13 new Missouri state highs, and 4 national benchmarks. The results speak to both the superior quality of the offering and the underlying strength of the current feeder market. New highs were set across multiple weight classes, with several standout drafts making national headlines. On July 2, 2025, 11 head at 615 lbs sold for $425.00/cwt, marking the highest 6-weight steer price ever recorded in the U.S. That same day, 39 head at 705 lbs brought $369.00, the third-highest price nationally for 7-weight steers. Other highlights included 21 head at 433 lbs fetching $462.50 (4-weights) and 17 head at 846 lbs bringing $329.50 (8-weights), both setting new highs. The momentum began on June 30 with two heavyweight drafts: 63 head at 906 lbs sold for $315.25 (4th all-time nationally) and 67 head at 902 lbs brought $313.75 (10th all-time), both breaking barn and Missouri state records for 9-weight steers. This episode of Wisdom from the Wardrobe, the team laces up a lively conversation that's equal parts style, semantics, and sole searching. Inspired by a real-life footwear fiasco, where a journalist was denied entry to a private members club for breakfast for wearing “sneakers” she swears they weren't sneakers and her outfit was elevated. We're diving feet-first into the fashionable gray area of what actually counts as a sneaker in today's style landscape. Are those minimalist leather kicks gym shoes in disguise? Can designer trainers moonlight as dress shoes? And why do some establishments still act like sneakers are the style equivalent of showing up in flip-flops? From the gym floor to the runway, the hosts untangle the evolution of sneakers, from their rubber-soled roots to their high-fashion reinventions. Expect plenty of laughs, spirited debate, and hot takes on everything from restaurant dress codes to why some sneakers might just be more polished than your average pair of Oxfords. As always, we're serving up practical styling tips, sneaky (pun intended) fashion faux pas to avoid, and fresh ideas on how to elevate your sneaker game, without getting turned away at the door. Oh, and before we step into all that…Bec drops an eyebrow-raising, poop-tastic “in the news” segment that's about decluttering using the “poop theory”, and let's just say, things get messy in the best possible way. Whether you're a sneakerhead or a style skeptic, this episode is a must-listen for anyone who's ever wondered if their footwear is too casual, or just misunderstood

After setting the stage by understanding producer Felton Jarvis's career leading up to his early collaborations with Elvis, we continue to investigate and interrogate the fan belief that he was singularly to blame for the "syrupy" overdubs that diminished the "pure" unfinished tracks. Helped along by a 1980 interview done between Felton and Jerry Flowers of RCA in which the producer talks about his career retrospectively, Justin and Bec trace Felton's journey as Elvis hires and hand-picks him to be his exclusive producer, taking Felton away from RCA and other artists so that Elvis can, as a largely autonomous artist whose only studio commitments during this decade are to send periodic deliverables to RCA, work at his own pace and create the kind of recordings that he truly wants. But was Felton truly to blame for the overindulgent strings and horns that were added to Elvis's music, or is there someone else that we've collectively overlooked? And has the narrative been all wrong and the way we even talk about "overdubs" been clouded by a widespread "rockist" misunderstanding of both Elvis and Felton, their respective jobs and tastes, and misunderstood expectations of the kind of music both fans & critics thought Elvis "should" be making? The duo examine Elvis's live performances in relation to his studio work, touch on a few more non-Elvis records produced by Felton, and even revisit the 1981 "Guitar Man" project Felton spearheaded before his early death to see if it provides clearer insight into the producer's preferences and tastes. For Song of the Week, Bec makes a promise that "It Won't Be Long," covering the recording cut from "Double Trouble," while Justin goes prospecting because he's pretty sure "There's Gold in the Mountains" still to be dug up from "Kissin' Cousins." In this episode, we dive into two topics that might just save you stress—or even your life. Dog Training: Why a “Growl” Speaks Louder Than Words First, we explore the importance of putting a "handle" on your dog or puppy at a young age. Discover how using a natural, mother-like growl can teach respect, set boundaries, and prevent long-term behavioral issues—without yelling or punishment. Setting Boundaries Early with Your Dog or Puppy Putting a “handle” on your dog or puppy at an early age is critical for establishing authority and structure. A dog that respects boundaries grows into a confident, balanced companion. Why a Growl Works Using a low, natural growl as a correction tool mimics the way a mother dog disciplines her pups. It's instinctual, effective, and avoids yelling or physical punishment. Growling is a natural, recognizable tone for dogs. It grabs attention and commands respect without fear. This technique works best when started young, alongside leash work inside the home. Tornado Season 2025: Camping, Shelters & Staying Safe Tornado Activity Is Surging in 2025 Next we shift focus to Tornado Season 2025, which is already more intense than 2024. With 1,296 tornado reports as of June—well above the historical average—we break down what every family or camping group needs to know. From finding shelter at campgrounds (or lack thereof) to understanding the difference between a Tornado Watch and Warning, this is a must-listen for anyone traveling, camping, or living in storm-prone areas. Notable Trends: Iowa: 100 tornadoes in June 2024 → only 16 in June 2025. North Dakota: 2 tornadoes in June 2024 → 34 in June 2025. Whether you're raising a pup or planning your next outdoor trip, this episode brings practical tips and critical awareness together in one powerful conversation. USDA to Reopen Livestock Trade with Mexico in Phases The USDA has announced a phased reopening of U.S. ports to cattle, bison, and equines from Mexico starting July 7, 2025, beginning with the Douglas, Arizona port. This follows significant progress in Mexico's New World Screwworm (NWS) response, including expanded surveillance, increased sterile fly dispersal (over 100 million per week), and no recent signs of northward NWS spread. USDA officials conducted on-site evaluations and determined that conditions now support limited trade resumption. Further port reopenings in New Mexico and potentially Texas will depend on continued improvements, case monitoring, and enhanced animal health protocols. Port Reopening Timeline *After each reopening USDA will evaluate to ensure no adverse effects arise* REFERENCE: https://www.nationalbeefwire.com/u-s-cattle-report Walmart Launches First In-House Case-Ready Beef Facility in Kansas Walmart announced the grand opening of its first-ever owned and operated case-ready beef facility in Olathe, Kansas. This milestone reinforces Walmart's commitment to building a more resilient, transparent and efficient supply chain for Angus beef — helping Walmart provide quality beef options that meet demand and bring tremendous value to customers across the Midwest. In 2022, Walmart made an equity investment in Sustainable Beef LLC in North Platte, Nebraska, as part of its continued efforts in creating an end-to-end supply chain for Angus beef. Sustainable Beef's majority ownership is local and producer-centric, with cattle sourced from no more than a 250-mile radius to the plant in a region that has exceptionally high-quality cattle. Now, the newly opened, 300,000+ square-foot, state-of-the-art facility will package and distribute Angus cuts sourced directly from Sustainable Beef LLC to stores across the Midwest, bringing even greater transparency to customers seeking quality beef options at Walmart stores in the region. Intrigued by the premise presented by the recent Sony box sets like "Sunset Boulevard" describing Elvis's undubbed recordings as "pure," Justin decided to investigate the story behind the man who has borne most of the heavy criticism aimed at the production on Elvis's music, Felton Jarvis, who was Elvis's main producer from 1966-1977. While we've previously touched on Felton's work as a producer in our "Elvis and His Producers/Elvis as a Producer" episode, realizing we may not have given him a fair shake, on this episode Justin and Bec investigate Felton's early work at National Recording Corporation (NRC) in Atlanta, Georgia, his time at ABC-Paramount working with Tommy Roe, Fats Domino, Lloyd Price, the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section and.... "Vince Everett"? They trace Felton's move to RCA Victor producing many successful acts and hit records in the field of country music in the mid-1960s and, naturally, his first sessions with Elvis across 1966-1968, chief among which was the How Great Thou Art project, which won Elvis his first-ever Grammy Award. Laced throughout are stories of a warm-hearted, good-natured Georgia boy - who loved Elvis Presley and dreamed so hard to one day produce his hero's music that he manifested it - from collaborators, friends and historians who have tried to relay some of Felton's story, as well as audio from Felton himself in conversation with RCA's Jerry Flowers in 1980, discussing his career in hindsight. Part 2 will even more directly interrogate the idea that Felton was, as so frequently repeated by Elvis fans over nearly 4 decades, singularly to blame for the "syrupy" overdubs that were a hallmark of Elvis's 1970s output, as Justin builds a case to convince Bec that she and everyone else - including sometimes even Justin himself - has been wrong all these years! Ranch It Up Herd It Here: Episode 87 USDA to Build $8.5 Million Facility Announced to Boost U.S. Pest Control On June 18, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins announced a new sterile fly dispersal facility at Moore Airfield Base in South Texas. The $8.5 million investment aims to strengthen the USDA's ability to detect, control, and eliminate the New World screwworm (NWS). Border Closures Spark Action On May 11, the U.S. suspended imports of live cattle, bison, and horses from Mexico after NWS was found 700 miles from the U.S. border. This followed an earlier closure in November 2024, which lasted until February 1, 2025. Current Fly Production is Not Enough The U.S. now relies on a joint facility in Panama producing 100 million sterile flies per week. But future eradication may require 400–500 million weekly, driving the need for domestic capacity. What is the New World Screwworm? NWS is a parasitic fly that lays eggs in wounds of warm-blooded animals. Larvae feed on live tissue, causing severe harm or death. The pest was eradicated in the U.S. by 1982, but recent cases near the border are raising alarms. The Asian Long Horned Tick carries a protozoan parasite that infects red and white blood cells and causes bovine infectious anemia. There are no approved treatments in the United States. The best way to protect livestock is through tick control methods and proper biosecurity to prevent blood-borne spread between livestock. Texas is turning to helicopters to manage invasive aoudad sheep, what's behind a surge in moose attacks in Colorado, and one youth figured out how to turn biodegradable fishing lures into a business plus how Gen Z are taking Adulting classes. Join radio hosts Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger' Erhardt (Tigger & BEC) with The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in Outdoors & Western Lifestyle News! Season 5, Episode 242 Aerial Hunting, Moose Dangers, Life Lessons, and a Teen's Green Fishing Breakthrough Texas Takes to the Skies to Manage Invasive Aoudad Texas is stepping up its wildlife management game — from the sky. Starting September 1, hunters will be allowed to shoot aoudad, also known as Barbary sheep, from helicopters, thanks to Senate Bill 1245, signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott. Originally from North Africa, aoudad were brought to Texas in the 1950s and have since exploded in number — with over 30,000 now roaming the state. They're hardy, fast-breeding, and tough on the environment, competing with native species like mule deer and bighorn sheep, damaging fragile desert ecosystems, and even spreading disease to commercial herds. The bill adds aoudad to the state's aerial wildlife management program, which already includes feral hogs and coyotes. Officials hope helicopter hunting — a method that helped reduce hog numbers by over 30% — can also bring the aoudad population under control. While they're a problem for landowners and wildlife managers, aoudad remain a popular big game target for hunters. Texas has no closed season or bag limit for them — just bring a valid hunting license and be ready for a challenge, whether on foot or from above. Reference: https://www.outdoorlife.com/hunting/texas-hunting-aoudad-from-helicopters/ Colorado Officials Warn: Give Moose Space During Calving Season Moose attacks are on the rise across Colorado, and wildlife officials say the reason is simple — it's calving season. From late May to mid-June, cow moose become highly protective of their young and more likely to charge if they feel threatened, especially by dogs. In just over a week, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) responded to four separate attacks involving mother moose and nearby people or pets. In one case, a cow moose trampled two dogs and forced a man to dive under a car. In another, two women were charged and stomped while walking off-leash dogs — they only escaped by climbing onto a roof, and a neighbor used a fire extinguisher to drive the moose off. Even leashed dogs don't guarantee safety. In Grand County, Colorado, a woman was seriously hurt when a cow moose charged her and her dog; her boyfriend shot the moose in self-defense. Wildlife officers later had to euthanize the orphaned calf, fearing it would become too dependent on humans. In the most recent incident, a woman in Steamboat Springs was attacked while walking her dogs. A bystander tried to help — and got kicked for his trouble. The injured woman was airlifted to the hospital, and the cow and its two calves were later relocated. CPW says moose see dogs as predators and react aggressively to protect their calves. They're urging outdoor enthusiasts to keep pets leashed, avoid thick brush where calves may be hiding, and give moose a wide berth if spotted. While moose attacks remain rare, growing moose and human populations mean encounters are becoming more likely. So if you're hiking in moose country this time of year, stay alert, leash your dog, and let these massive mammals raise their young in peace. Forget it. High schoolers and college students across the U.S. are now signing up for “Adulting 101” — crash courses in how to do laundry, budget for rent, or cook something besides ramen.New York teen Zack Leitner put it this way: “Until the 1960s, students learned how to cook, clean, and sew. In 2025, we're lucky if they know how to do their laundry.” Psychologist Jean Twenge points to overprotective parenting and a trend of young adults living longer at home. She says today's 20-somethings are arriving at adulthood with empty toolboxes — not because they're lazy, but because no one taught them the basics. So while schools are starting to step in, experts say these basic life skills should be taught way earlier. Because whether it's interest rates or ironing a shirt — ignorance isn't bliss. It's expensive…. Lastly, if you have a chance - research Financial Literacy, it is a topic more should be talking about in our opinion! Reference: https://nypost.com/2025/05/26/lifestyle/gen-z-flocks-to-adulting-101-for-basic-life-skills-help/ Teen Angler Hooks Science Fair Win with Eco-Friendly Fishing Lures A high schooler from Pennsylvania is reeling in praise — and fish — with his homemade biodegradable fishing lures. Ethan Albright, a senior at Hempfield High School and lifelong fisherman, created the lures using natural ingredients like seaweed-based sodium alginate, gelatin, and cornstarch. His goal? Cut down on plastic waste in rivers. Albright's eco-conscious invention earned him third place at the International Science and Engineering Fair this May, after first winning a local competition in March. And yes — the lures work. “The trout were hammering them,” Albright said after a successful trip during trout season. Traditional soft-plastic lures often break off or get swallowed by fish, clogging waterways and fish stomachs. Albright's version, on the other hand, is fully edible and decomposes in just over two weeks. He's now producing 10-packs of the five-inch worm lures — the classic “senko” style — in biodegradable packaging, with plans to sell them in local bait shops. His creations could mark a step forward for anglers and the environment alike. Albright says he's starting small but thinking big: “One day, maybe we can get them manufactured somewhere other than my kitchen.” (Interested buyers can email him here.) EPISODE 86 DETAILS Agridime Order To Pay Millions In Cattle Ponzi Scheme A Texas federal court has issued a final judgment against Agridime LLC, a Fort Worth-based company, permanently banning it from commodity trading. The ruling also mandates the company to pay more than $102.9 million in restitution to defrauded customers, according to recent court documents. CFTC Alleges $161 Million Cattle Investment Fraud The final judgment stems from a May 2024 complaint filed by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). The CFTC alleged that Agridime, along with co-founders Joshua Link and Jed Wood, orchestrated a cattle investment scheme that defrauded over 2,000 individuals out of approximately $161 million. According to the CFTC, Agridime falsely marketed cattle investment opportunities by promising annual returns between 15% and 32% on $2,000 cattle purchases. The company allegedly used funds from new customers to pay existing investors, a structure that resembles a classic Ponzi scheme. Insider Commissions and Misuse of Funds Revealed The court filings also revealed that Agridime insiders diverted approximately $11 million in undisclosed commissions. These insider payments were never disclosed to investors, contributing further to the scheme's deception and financial harm to participants. Agridime Settles Case Without Admitting or Denying Allegations Agridime LLC settled the case with the CFTC without admitting or denying the allegations. As part of the settlement, the company agreed to: Permanent injunctive relief Waiver of its right to appeal A permanent ban from commodity trading Prohibition on soliciting investment funds or acting in any CFTC-registered capacity A ban on publicly denying the CFTC's allegations The company must also ensure that all employees and agents comply with the judgment's terms. Agridime Banned from Commodity Markets for Good With the court's final ruling, Agridime is permanently banned from participating in any form of commodity trading. This includes solicitation of funds, registration with the CFTC, and any related investment activity. The CFTC emphasized that the company's future conduct will be closely monitored to ensure compliance. Justin and Bec put on their sombreros, pour margaritas and head South of the border for an exploration of the January 1963 movie soundtrack sessions that gave us the "Fun in Acapulco" album. With its unusual genre stylings that evoked more Latin-flavored stylings, traditional Mexican songs and the whole Acapulco nightclub destination scene of the early 1960s, "Fun in Acapulco" offered Elvis Presley a chance to dabbled in the types of songs he might never have otherwise done but takes the challenge head on, such as "Guadalajara," "Marguerita" and "Vino, Dinero Y Amor." Of course, while they touch on the iconic "Bossa Nova Baby," a cover of a Leiber/Stoller-penned hit originally for The Clovers, and ponder what on earth happened to "Mexico" on the original album, the duo also briefly glimpse the extensive careers of some of the unique musicians who helped Elvis nail the tone (such as The Four Amigos), as well discuss a few ways Fun in Acapulco has popped up in pop culture. For Song of the Week, Bec takes it light and breezy with the bluesy "Hard Luck" from "Frankie and Johnny" while Justin gives a little love to Lee Hazlewood's "The Fool," originally a hit for Sanford Clark but surfacing both as a home recording by Elvis and eventually on the "Elvis Country" album. Note: We recorded this episode just before the "Sunset Boulevard" box set news dropped, before seeing Riley Keough's "In Process" short film and a few other news tidbits that cropped up, which we'll tackle all on the next episode! If you enjoy TCBCast, please consider supporting us with a donation at Patreon.com/TCBCast. Your support allows us to continue to provide thoughtful, provocative, challenging and well-researched perspectives on Elvis's career, his peers and influences, and his cultural impact and legacy.

What to know about purchasing a used RV. Learn about cruise ship life, or eyeing alligator boots—how about a hunting adventure plus TSA ID rules. Join radio hosts Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger' Erhardt (Tigger & BEC) with The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in Outdoors & Western Lifestyle News! Season 5, Episode 241 What to Know Before Hitting the Road in a 20-Year-Old Class C Motorhome Buying a used motorhome can be the start of a grand adventure—or a roadside disaster. Here's what to inspect and prepare before taking off. Inspect the Core Systems Engine & Transmission: Hire a mechanic to inspect the drivetrain. Leaks, odd noises, or sluggish shifting can spell big trouble. Roof & Seals: Check for soft spots or water damage. Even a pinhole can turn into a pricey repair. Electrical & Plumbing: Test every outlet, light, and water system. A short or leak on the road is no fun. Don't Skip These Pre-Trip Checks Replace tires older than 5-7 years, regardless of tread. Flush and sanitize the freshwater system. Test brakes and lights, including turn signals and trailer hookups. Stock your toolkit: duct tape, fuses, jumper cables, sealant, and extra fluids. Lastly the biggest step before leaving on a long trip, try out the RV or camper close to home on a couple of small trips. This is so important in order to fully understand how all of the equipment works, handles on the road to even parking or leveling. Too often we are overly excited and just want "TO GO"... But that's when disaster or unwanted extra stresses or costs can come into play. So try out that "New To You" RV or Camper and hit the road! But there's one thing your Costco card can't do... and that's get you on a plane. Yep, the TSA has officially shut down the rumor that your warehouse club membership counts as a REAL ID. Despite the shiny star on the card or even a photo on your app, it's not a valid ID for flying. Period. The TSA put it perfectly: “We love hot dogs and rotisserie chickens too… but please stop telling people your Costco card is a REAL ID. It absolutely is not.” Since May 7, you now need a REAL ID, passport, or other federally approved photo ID to fly domestically. Show up with your shopping card? You might miss your flight — and no one wants that. So, pack smart, fly smart… and save the Costco card for the snack aisle, not the security line. In Texas, that now includes hunting the leather yourself. Houston-based Republic Boot Company is offering a $5,000 package that comes with a guided East Texas gator hunt — and a pair of custom cowboy boots made from your very own alligator. That price tag also covers your hunting guide, firearms, tags from Texas Parks and Wildlife, and even a head mount of your gator. But you'll need a group of four or more to book the trip — and a little patience. The custom boots take about eight months to make, since tanning gator hide doesn't happen overnight. The hunts are going down this fall near Anahuac — also known as the Alligator Capital of Texas — during the short but wild gator season, September 11th through the 30th. Owner Chris Conrad says while most people associate gator hunting with the “big, gnarly” beasts seen on TV, those larger alligators typically have bigger and rougher scales that aren't ideal for leather working. Eight-foot gators are just right — tough enough for the hunt, but perfect for premium leather. So if you're ready for the full Texas experience — boots, bayou, and big reptiles — this one's for you. Plus a breakdown of the Bezos dollars being invested to cut methane emissions of Livestock, and lots more on this all new episode of The Ranch It Up Radio Show. Be sure to subscribe on your favorite podcasting app or on the Ranch It Up Radio Show YouTube Channel. Season 5, EPISODE 240 Farmatan Used To Manage Bloat Cattle producers have experienced reductions in bloats and death loss using Farmatan liquid and powder. A peer reviewed study found 81% fewer days of bloat and 17% ADG of heifers grazing winter wheat. Jeff Bezos Invests Millions to Cut Methane Emissions from Livestock Billionaire Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon and one of the world's wealthiest individuals with a net worth exceeding $190 billion, is turning his attention to livestock production. Through the Bezos Earth Fund, a $10 billion climate-focused initiative he launched in 2020, Bezos is investing in projects designed to reduce methane emissions from cattle. Bezos Earth Fund Targets Methane Emissions in Cattle Ranching, farming, and the Western lifestyle are at the heart of everything we do. Tigger & BEC bring you exclusive insights from the world of working ranches, cattle farming, and sustainable beef production. Methane is over 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide over a 20-year period, according to climate scientists. To address this, Bezos and the Global Methane Hub have jointly launched a $27.4 million initiative aimed at breeding low-methane-emitting cattle and developing technologies to curb livestock emissions globally. This groundbreaking initiative includes: $8.7 million for low-emission dairy breeding in Holstein, Jersey, Brown Swiss, and Red breeds, led by Wageningen University in the Netherlands. $4.85 million to the Angus Foundation (Saint Joseph, MO) to integrate low-methane traits into beef cattle breeding programs across North America, Oceania, and Europe. $3.35 million to support methane-efficient breeding in Indigenous African cattle populations. $2.34 million to the University of Nebraska to research methane reduction in commercial and crossbred beef cattle herds. $8.1 million toward research at universities in Uruguay and Australia and for rumen microbiome analysis. A Powerful Push to Transform Livestock Emissions Bezos is not working alone. The Global Methane Hub, launched in 2022 in support of the Global Methane Pledge from COP26, brings together powerful partners including the IKEA Foundation, Inter-American Development Bank, and major NGOs. With deep funding and global reach, the coalition is pushing for fast, scalable solutions in agriculture. Avian Influenza and what you need to know. Plus snake bites have been on the rise, what you need to do in case of an emergency and records have been broken in the fishing world. Join radio hosts Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger' Erhardt (Tigger & BEC) with The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in Outdoors & Western Lifestyle News! Season 5, Episode 240 Avian Influenza: 2 Types Of Viruses There are two types of virus: Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI): Virus strains are extremely infectious, often fatal to domestic poultry and can spread rapidly from flock to flock. Low Pathogenicity Avian Influenza (LPAI): Virus strains occur naturally in wild migratory waterfowl and shorebirds without causing illness. LPAI can infect domestic poultry with little or no signs of illness. Avian Influenza: The Signs In Birds & Poultry Sudden, unexplained death Decline in water consumption Decreased egg production and depression in layers Purple or dry combs Quieter than normal Frequently laying down Swelling around eyes Procedures For Wild Birds The primary carriers of avian influenza A are waterfowl, gulls, terns and shorebirds. Avoid direct contact with wild birds and observe them only from a distance. Wild birds can be infected without showing symptoms of the infection. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) currently believes that the public health risk from the current HPAI outbreak is low. They advise avoiding direct contact with sick or dead wild birds. Individuals should also avoid transporting sick or dead birds. Do not handle dead wild birds. Avian influenza surveillance and testing in wild birds is being done by USDA APHIS Wildlife Services and North Dakota Department of Game and Fish. Please report wild sick and dead birds at https://gf.nd.gov/wildlife/diseases/mortality-report. Wild bird avian influenza questions can be directed to 701-204-2161. Reduce the attractiveness for wild birds to stop at your place by cleaning up litter and spilled feed around your domestic poultry housing. When should you move wild bird carcasses? While handling and transporting carcasses is not advised, there may be some cases where it is required to minimize transmission of HPAI and continue normal activities. This would be especially true to limit contact with domestic poultry, or if fields need to be worked in preparation for planting, etc. Handling According to the CDC: “If you must handle wild birds or sick or dead poultry, minimize direct contact by wearing gloves and wash your hands with soap and water after touching birds. If available, wear respiratory protection such as a medical facemask. Change your clothing before contact with healthy domestic poultry and birds after handling wild birds, and discard the gloves and facemask, disinfect footwear, and then wash your hands with soap and water.” Disposal It is critical that carcasses are disposed of properly to reduce the risk for transmission to domestic flocks and other wildlife. Numerous cases of mortality in eagles, hawks and owls have occurred as a result of scavenging on dead bird carcasses. For this reason, moving carcasses to new areas and discarding them on the landscape should be avoided, as this may unintentionally contribute to more cases. Acceptable disposal options for wild bird carcasses include: Move carcasses to the edge of the field. Burial is acceptable for small numbers of birds. Be sure to bury carcasses four feet above the water table with four feet of cover. If possible bury birds in clay soils. Burn carcasses. Be sure to check if you are under a burn ban prior to burning, Dispose at an approved municipal solid waste landfill. Please contact the landfill to determine disposal protocols. Carcasses must be double bagged. Bags must be disinfected before transporting to the landfill. Be sure to use a disinfect registered for use against AI, https://www.epa.gov/pesticide-registration/antimicrobial-products-registered-disinfection-use-against-avian-influenza Following disposal be sure to disinfect the vehicle used to transport the carcasses. Make sure you know the does and don't of what to do in case of a snake bite Do's for Snake Bites: Call for help: Immediately call 911 or your local emergency number. Stay calm and still: Minimize movement to slow the spread of venom. Remove jewelry and tight clothing: Swelling may occur, making it difficult to remove these items later. Keep the bite area below heart level: This helps slow the venom's circulation. Wash the wound: Clean the bite with soap and water. Cover the bite: Apply a clean, dry dressing. Take a photograph of the snake (if safe): This can help medical personnel identify the snake species and determine the appropriate treatment. Don'ts for Snake Bites: Don't assume the snake is harmless: Always treat a snakebite as serious. Don't try to catch or kill the snake: This can lead to further bites. Don't use a tourniquet: Tourniquets can cause serious complications, including blood clots and potential amputation. Don't apply ice or cold compresses: This can damage tissue. Don't cut into the bite or try to suck out the venom: These practices are ineffective and can be harmful. Don't take pain relievers like aspirin or ibuprofen: These medications can interfere with the treatment of snake venom. Don't give the person anything to eat or drink: This can interfere with medical treatment. Don't try to identify the snake if it's not safe to do so: Safety comes first. State Record Fish In Connecticut A new state record has been set for the largest freshwater fish ever caught in Connecticut. In May, angler Rafal Wlazlo landed a massive 45-pound, 8-ounce Common Carp at Lake Lillinonah, making it the heaviest freshwater fish recorded in the state. According to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), Wlazlo's catch now holds the official title for the largest freshwater fish in Connecticut history. Wlazlo, owner of Carp Angler, noted that carp fishing is hugely popular in Europe and is gaining traction as a niche yet growing sport in the United States. Prior to this record-breaking carp, the largest freshwater fish on record in Connecticut included a 29-pound Channel Catfish, Lake Trout, and Northern Pike. Justin and Bec give their reactions to watching Disney's live action remake of the 2002 animated classic "Lilo and Stitch," which prominently featured Elvis's music. The remake does, too, so we primarily center our discussion initially around how Elvis is used; but since Bec had never seen the original before, she gave it a watch after having gone to see the reworking in theatres, and the duo compare notes on things that were different, what worked and what didn't. For Song of the Week, since the "Blue Hawaii" album is seen prominently in the new "Lilo and Stitch", both hosts decided to pick songs from the 1961 classic, with Justin first picking "Ku-U-I-Po," the ballad also written by "Can't Help Falling in Love" cowriters Peretti-Creatore-Weiss for "Blue Hawaii." Bec then dives headfirst into the multi-faceted history behind "Aloha Oe," the traditional Hawaiian song penned by the last Queen of Hawai'i, Liliʻuokalani, and its double meaning as both a simple romantic farewell as well as symbolizing the loss of indigenous sovereignty. This prompts further discussion on how the song is used in "Blue Hawaii" and in both versions of "Lilo and Stitch," bringing the whole thing together. Be warned - if you haven't made it out to see the movie, this whole episode contains numerous spoilers for both the 2002 and 2025 versions of "Lilo and Stitch." If you enjoy TCBCast, please consider supporting us with a donation at Patreon.com/TCBCast. Your support allows us to continue to provide thoughtful, provocative, challenging and well-researched perspectives on Elvis's career, his peers and influences, and his cultural impact and legacy.
Bagels are one of the most famous NYC foods and a MUST-have during your time here. Many people argue that New York is the capital of the world for bagels. Why are the bagels so good in NYC?Many people claim that the bagels in NYC are so amazing because the tap water here is considered some of the best in the world. NYC has "soft" water from the Catskill Mountains, meaning it has lower concentrations of calcium and magnesium. The mineral content in water affects the gluten in the dough. Extra hard water strengthens the gluten, which can cause tougher baked goods, meaning softer water yields softer baked goods. Some bagel experts claim the bagels are so good in NYC because of the refined bagel techniques, including longer proofing time and boiling techniques before baking. Either way, the bagels in New York City are truly second to none.Liberty Bagels4 locations in NYC. 5th Ave by the Plaza Hotel/Central Park. Midtown location by Herald Square. Fidi location. Queens location. They offer fun-flavored cream cheeses and always have rainbow bagels (plain flavor with fun colors). It also features seasonal colors, which are a fun addition. We love the BEC, works bagel, and blueberry bagel. Try the cream cheese before you commit to an entire bagel's worth of it. We recommend ordering ahead of time on weekends and holidays. Otherwise, the line takes about 30 minutes on a busy weekend morning.PopUp Bagels6 locations in NYC (some in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Long Island, NY).Ashley's new favorite bagel spot in the city!!They sell the bagels in increments of 3. For example, the smallest order is 3 bagels and 1 schmear, which is great for 2 people and costs $12.The menu is simple and they only have 5 bagel flavors (Plain, Sesame, Everything, Salt, Poppyseed). Then they have plain cream cheese, scallion, seasonal cream cheese, butter, and vegan schmear options. It's the softest and freshest bagels I've ever had, and also the best scallion cream cheese I've ever had.Pick-A-BagelPick a bagel is a solid option, and they have a few locations around the city. We like their bagels with cream cheese and their bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on everything. The ordering process can be a little chaotic, so be prepared for that.Russ & DaughtersSince 1914, this landmark NYC institution has been continuously owned and operated by four generations of the Russ family. A classic bagel establishment serving a variety of bagels, lox, pickles, and desserts. It's been open for more than a century and has 2 locations on the Lower East Side, one in Hudson Yards, and one in Brooklyn.Getting a platter can be fun if you want to sit down and have a true experience with a variety of spreads, breads, and smoked fish. If you want a bagel with lox, plan on it costing around $20. This place has a wide variety of options. You can get a regular bagel and cream cheese or you could buy caviar. I sampled the pastrami-cured smoked salmon, and it was the best of my entire life. Apollo BagelsWe haven't been here, but it is a very popular spot. Every photo, video, and review I've seen looks amazing. Only 3 bagel options (plain, everything, sesame). From what I've heard and seen online, plan on waiting in line for 30 min.General Bagel Tips-Each bagel shop has a different ordering process. Follow what others are doing and you should be fine.-Bagel shops are usually a good place to try a black and white cookie.-If you go to a deli or bodega, you can get a cheaper BEC option that will still be delicious, but it won't be made on a good bagel. -Bagel shop coffee is usually mediocre. It's fine and will do the job, but if you are a coffee connoisseur, be warned. You'll Have to Check It Out - SugarfishFairly priced, delicious omakase sushi. Check it out here.
Even when we know what we should be doing, sometimes we just… don't. We dive into how self-doubt, fear of failure, and perfectionism can keep us stuck and more importantly, what to actually do about it.
