Joss Stone is coming to town with Melissa Etheridge. The two will play at The Palace on April 29th.
On this episode of #LatinosOutLoud, @RachelLaLoca chats virtually with powerhouse Latina actress of Indigenous roots, Joanna DeLane. Joanna hit the big screen nationwide on March 28th with Jason Statham and David Harbour in the box office hit, A WORKING MAN. Joanna will be recurring in the upcoming Netflix medical drama series PULSE, that began on April 3rd. ABOUT THE FILM A WORKING MAN follows Levon Cade (Statham), who left his profession behind to work construction and be a good dad to his daughter. But when a local girl vanishes, he's asked to return to the skills that made him a mythic figure in the shadowy world of counterterrorism. DeLane appears as Joyce Lefferty, the wife of Gunny (Harbour), a longtime military friend and confidant of Levon Cade. The film marks the second time DeLane has worked with action director David Ayer, explaining “One of my first acting gigs was a background role in the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie Sabotage. It was very action-packed, and I remember thinking this was the epitome of an action movie -- intense but fun. When it released in theaters, I got messages from friends and family asking if I was in it. 'Yes?' I answered, unsure of how they'd spotted me. I watched it myself and sure enough, there I was—for a few seconds on the big screen, flashing my famous smile, right before the shooting began. Little did anyone realize, the film was directed by David Ayer, who unknowingly gave me my first silver screen moment. Fast forward several years later and here we are – with David giving me my next one!" DeLane also jumps into action alongside Willa Fitzgerald and Colin Woodell recurring as ER Nurse Hill on the anticipated Netflix series, PULSE. This high-stakes drama with a side of romance follows the personal and professional lives of the doctors and staff at a busy Miami trauma center. When the hospital goes into lockdown, tensions rise, secrets spill, and the ER staff must juggle saving lives while dealing with their own drama. “I've always been a fan of medical dramas, so getting to be involved in this new show was an incredible experience. Netflix is on the cusp of another hit, and the cast and crew did an amazing job—I can't wait for everyone to see Pulse,” shares DeLane. Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, this Hispanic actress and filmmaker of Indigenous roots has been building a solid reputation for her talents in Hollywood. DeLane has proudly appeared in projects that have made significant strides in representation like Hulu's Prey, Marvel's Echo, FX's Mayans M.C., and Paramount's 1883: A Yellowstone Origin Story. Her credits also include Perry Mason, Hacks, NCIS: Hawai'i, Mrs. Davis, I Think You Should Leave, The Terminal List and many others. Fueled by her deep-rooted passion for addressing the lack of diversity and inclusion in Film and TV, DeLane expanded her career behind the scenes as a Producer. She produced the 2024 Telly Award Gold Winner for Best Music Video for Shania Twain's ‘Giddy Up', and the “Muhammad Ali” Diljit Featuring NLE Choppa music video which is currently nominated for Best International Music Video from the 2025 Hollywood Music Video Awards. Her production credits include working with numerous musical mega-stars, including Melissa Etheridge, Bush, and Paul Anka. As a creative entrepreneur, DeLane co-founded the female filmmaking community Ladies Above the Line and started the branding and marketing company Materials Makeover, sharing with other actors the practical knowledge she has gained from working in various roles across the industry. Philip Andelman's inspired take on the language and rhythm of music videos has impacted the medium in countless ways. The results are evident in his collaborations with contemporary artists, including Usher, Melissa Etheridge, Ludacris, Maxwell, d4vd, James Bay and Taylor Swift. Formative experiences with Annie Leibowitz launched his entry-point into photography. After NYU, continued experiential education under the guidance of Joseph Kahn, the legend, exposed Philip to the world of music videos with an ethos to help keep head above water. He worked as a second unit director on some of the most pivotal music videos ever made, including Moby's Southside and U2's Elevation. Soon after came the opportunity to step into the director's chair for the first of six video collaborations with Lenny Kravitz, beginning with 2004's Where Are We Runnin - a hedonistic exploration of faith. Some of the notable videos in Philip's catalogue include John Mayer's Waiting on the World to Change; Duck Sauce's It's You; Fiona Apple and Andrew Bird's Left Handed Kisses; Miriam, by Norah Jones; and Beyonce's Halo, featuring Michael Ealy. In our conversation, we discussed the origins of his journey and upbringing in France and New York; the grant he received from Martin Scorsese; the artistry in working with Maxwell; showing Jay-Z what he thought was an unfinished video; and a fateful Samsung commercial he directed. We also discussed his degree of versatility, and its effect on transcending genre.Opening Credits: Anitek - Tab & Anitek - Mina I CC BY-NC-ND 3.0; Genx Beats - Lofi Beats - 01 Always (Lofi Mix) I CC BY 3.0. In this episode, Joe interviews two members of the Heroic Hearts Project: Founder and President, Jesse Gould; and Director of Development and Head of Family Relations, Allison Wilson. Gould gives a background of Heroic Hearts Project and discusses their current projects and future goals, and Wilson talks about her nonprofit, The Hope Project, and its recent merger with HHP to bring more of a focus to the other side of veteran healing: the families of veterans. While Heroic Hearts and other veteran-aligned organizations have been an answer to many vets unable to find help otherwise (and frustrated with the inconsistencies of the VA), they talk a lot about that missing piece – how crucial it is to have family involved in a veteran's reintegration, and how that healing can impact future generations. "The Veteran's Guide to Psychedelics: A Preparation and Integration Workbook" was recently released, with all proceeds going to HHP, and they are hosting their first Gala event, "Operation: Freedom To Heal," this week, December 5, in Los Angeles. The goal of the event is to fundraise, gather community, and recognize the supporters who have gotten Heroic Hearts to where it is today, and will feature live and silent auctions and a performance by Melissa Etheridge. *Content Warning: Strong language of a sexual nature a few times. Just a heads up. Weekly shoutout: The Originals Bureau Season 3, now available: Outstanding original scripts! -- Hi there, Today I am delighted to be arts calling poet and educator Charles K. Carter! ckcpoetry.com ABOUT OUR GUEST: Charles K. Carter (they/he) is a queer poet and educator from Iowa who currently lives in Oregon. Carter has an MFA in writing from Lindenwood University. He is a volunteer video curator for Button Poetry. Their poems have been featured in a variety of literary journals and anthologies. Carter is the author of several chapbooks including Salem Revisited from WordTech Editions. His debut full-length collection, Read My Lips, was released in 2022 by David Robert Books. To coincide with the release of their most recent chapbook, Artificial Sweetness (Finishing Line Press), Carter created the video podcast series #SundaySweetChats, which can be found on YouTube. Also available at Bookshop.org! ABOUT: In The God of Loneliness, Charles K. Carter shares their most vulnerable work yet. While using a variety of poetic forms, Carter tackles the tough intersection of isolation, disconnection, and sexuality. “The God of Loneliness is a plaintive exploration of loving and being loved when compassion for oneself isn't a given. Carter's poems—particularly the ‘…in Dreamland' ones—embody an undisguised vulnerability that is deeply sympathetic but not overwrought or maudlin. Their heartstrings are not meant to be tugged per se but are offered to the reader to help us feel what we must. This is a delicate achievement that you know Carter hurt—and perhaps hurt mightily—to pull off, and it makes The God of Loneliness a deftly earnest and an unquestionably worthy read.” —Daniel W.K. Legendary investigative journalist, Bob Woodward, discusses his new book “War," what he learned about Biden while chronicling his presidency, and warns that a second Trump term should worry everyone. When five women in the Topeka Correctional Facility wrote to singer/songwriter Melissa Etheridge describing their lives before and during their incarceration, they never imagined they'd be muses for her. The new two-part documentary, “Melissa Etheridge: I'm Not Broken” (now streaming on Paramount+) follows her journey from writing a new song inspired by those letters to performing it at a live concert at the prison. Melissa talks with me about how her performance inspired change at the Topeka facility, how her family's love held her together in the wake of her son Beckett's death, and how sometimes a deadline is the greatest form of artistic inspiration. Melissa opens up about surviving the rollercoaster of fame, triumphing over breast cancer, and enduring the heart-wrenching loss of her son to addiction. Today we have a very special episode of the podcast Love Letters in our feed. Ever since Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey was a kid, music has played a major role in her life. “Eye of the Tiger” got her pumped for basketball games. She caught sets from Joan Baez and Melissa Etheridge working as a cocktail waitress. When she came out in her early 20s, she found solace in the Indigo Girls.
