Two months ago, the men began their premiership challenge from third on the ladder. Today on the Roar Deal, we'll preview the massive clash against Melbourne, with the path to completing the year of dreams for Brisbane sporting teams now paved in front of us.Also this week:-Some more Irish blood with Gaelic star Ben Murphy joining the Lions -A big departure with Andrew Crowell leaving the club -We talk about Charlie Cameron, Darcy Gardiner and Harris Andrews as our 2025 Premiership team rundown continues And much more!
Pete Helliar is a legend of Australian comedy, TV & Radio presenter including 9 years on "The Project" and the mastermind behind the beloved "Strauchnie". It's always great to have a comic in the house and you don't get much bigger than Pete! Pete shares how he got into comedy, his first gig and how it has evolved over time...including his first ever stand-up joke! Plus, the community radio show he had with unreal guests! But things truly started to shift for him during the time he was on "Rove". Pete shares the unselfish moment Rove turned his back on a million-dollar deal (in his early 20's) to stick with his team and continue to grow the show's legacy. Plus, the hilarious celebrity guest appearance that went terribly wrong. We talk about the idea for "Before the Game", a concept that Pete came up with, the legacy of the show and of course the legend of "Strauchnie". We laugh at Strauchnie's most memorable moments, why he's still in demand today, convincing Collingwood & Mick Malthouse about the concept & the famous legend's game match! Then the transition from sketches to serious TV at The Project & why Hughesy told him it won't work for a comedian! Plus, GCO shocking confessions returns with a dark thought, Pete's Golf journey, missing out on playing with Ricky Ponting and so much more. It's Halloween soon. Marnie got her hands on Broden's Cowdoy costume. This will mean a lot to some and nothing at all to others. Figure out where you stand here. The Roos are in a record-breaking mood, the Carlton and GWS and Gold Coast and Collingwood players had to flee from lightning, and the name of Coffs Harbour's stadium is quite capable of derailing this podcast.

Councillors ultimately voted 9-2 in favour to move forward with the plan, despite hearing over three hours of testimony last week of people being intimidated, harassed, and violated by security guards, as well as concerns about expanding the city's security camera network and limiting protest rights. In this segment we heard from a young person on not feeling safe at home, a First Nations person on racial disparities and ongoing impact of colonisation, and a worker from a local breakfast program.// Voter Preferences and Housing CrisisHousing researcher and urban geographer Dr Alistair Sisson spoke with us about a recently published report analysing how Australian voters' understandings of housing crisis relate to voting preferences. The report, 'Housing and the 2025 Australian Federal Election: Between Crisis and Inertia', which Alistair co-authored with colleagues at Macquarie University, details how people across age, tenure, and political lines understand the crisis: renters and younger voters see it as an affordability emergency, while older homeowners focus more on immigration and supply.// Save cohealth Emergency Town HallAn emergency town hall meeting to Save cohealth was held last week on Friday in Fitzroy, where attendees shared their serious concerns about the closure and rollback of vital health services. We heard excerpts from devastated residents, doctors, social and community workers, as well as responses from politicians. They went all stocks in during the trade period, they brought in Dan Houston, they brought in Harry Perryman, they opted to go for mature age players, but they weren't able being home the Premiership Flag. Peter Cronau, esteemed investigative journalist and editor of Declassified Australia, joined Inez to discuss the shocking discovery that 69 shipments of F-35 fighter jet parts, likely many more, have been flown on commercial passenger planes to Israel from Australia as recently as last week. In part 1 of the conversation, aired last week on Thursday Breakfast, Peter discussed how this routine operation is carried out in secret. Today in part 2, we learn more about the freedom of information request, department of defense's defensive reply, and what is next for the Willamtown base as the main F35 base for the asia-pacific region. Lockheed Martin's F-35 Fighter Jets have been described as their most lethal, stealth fighter jet, playing a critical role in the genocide in Gaza, Palestine as well as other global atrocities. This comes after years of denial by the department of defence, parliament members and the Prime Minister that ''Australia does not supply weapons or parts of weapons to Israel – and hasn't done so for more than 5 years.'' Rates of depression in Canada are rising, but a new CMAJ guideline advises against universal screening in primary care. The Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care found no evidence that routinely administering depression questionnaires to all adults improves outcomes and raised concerns about false positives, overdiagnosis, and strain on limited mental health resources.Dr. Eddy Lang, lead author of the guideline and professor of emergency medicine at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, explains the rationale behind the Task Force's recommendation. He describes how the review found no benefit from universal screening in improving depressive symptoms or quality of life and that commonly used questionnaires frequently misidentify patients, generating false positives and false negatives. Lang emphasizes that while physicians should remain attentive to patients' mental health, questionnaires are not the answer to identifying depression in the general population.Dr. Jennifer Young, a family physician in Collingwood, Ontario, and past president of the Ontario College of Family Physicians, reflects on what this recommendation means for everyday practice. She agrees that routine screening would add little value, pointing out that vigilance and continuity of care already allow family doctors to identify depression through clinical judgment and patient relationships. She underscores that time spent on universal questionnaires could displace care for patients with other pressing needs. For physicians, the key takeaway is clear: be alert to signs of depression, especially in vulnerable patients, but don't rely on blanket screening tools. Thoughtful conversation, familiarity with patients, and clinical intuition remain the best ways to identify those who need help. For more information from our sponsor, go to medicuspensionplan.comComments or questions? Via her popular weekly column for The Age and Sydney Morning Herald, Kate Halfpenny is known for speaking her mind, having an opinion and sharing it with the public. And now she’s written a book about her life, marriage, mental health – and the toll her husband’s drinking took on all of it. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you’ll get to hear the inside story of how one column Kate wrote created a maelstrom of fury, which in turn led to the writing of her magnificent memoir Boogie Wonderland. Today I get to talk to Kate about how this book came about, how she dealt with online hate and how her decision to make a sea change from Melbourne's cosy hipster suburb of Collingwood to a sleepy ocean town led to a mid-life reckoning she neither expected nor wanted. What we cover: The surprising column that landed Kate a book deal. Why vulnerability is her greatest storytelling strength. How she handles online hate (including serious threats). Mental health strategies for navigating public backlash. The reality of writing about your own life and the people in it. Tips for pitching stories and landing a column in major publications. In this episode, personal trainer and mother of three Gen takes us through her complete motherhood journey from Richmond to the Victorian coast. Her first pregnancy was unplanned but led to a powerful physiological birth at the Royal Women's Hospital. After moving through various challenges including COVID lockdowns, job redundancy, and relocating interstate, Gen welcomed her second daughter in a beautiful water birth. Her third pregnancy at 44 brought unexpected challenges with ageist comments from healthcare providers, but culminated in an incredible one-hour home birth in the shower. Gen's story beautifully illustrates how birth experiences can evolve and how trusting your body's wisdom leads to empowering outcomes.
