A little different week - just a couple of good ole stories with DJ. This week I talk about how much fear makes a difference in how we approach each opportunity we have. Fear really only has one answer to every question: "no". Is this really how we want to go about things? Life, like art, is about risks! This one's a good one because, thanks to Trader Joe's cold brew coffee, I. Am. Wired! Enjoy! I *google hangout* with Kenzie Pearce, owner of Maywood Photography in Abilene Texas. This is one of my favorite conversations so far. Kenzie gives us her origin story, how she dropped out of college, used photography as a way to capture fleeting moments, then later, built a brand and a business. Kenzie is someone whose style and talent is specific to her, her story, and the moments that shaped her. She gives us tips on how to find our own style as photographers and how important it is to continuously challenge yourself to evolve, if we're going to copy a style - how/why we should do it correctly. Seriously - if you’ve ever taken a photo of anything, you want to hear this conversation. This week I talk to accomplished poet, creative writer, and editor, Leslie Marie Aguilar. She is one of my dearest and oldest friends - one of my creative heroes! She and I both come from the heartland of West Texas so you know our kinship runs deep. Her creative journey has taken her to all kinds of places, both in life, and in her career. We get transparent in talking about creativity, culture shock, the fear and anxiety that comes from those transitions, the incredible need for self-awareness, and how that can make us better artists. Honestly - there's so much to this episode. If you're a young, tortured artist, this one's for you; So get out your pens and papers kids, this is gonna be a good one! Ep.2 - I get my first guest on the show and I couldn't have picked a better one. I invite John Mediana onto the show. If I got to pick a big brother, this guy would be it! John gives us his origin story from being adopted, to working in his Dad's shop, learning to appreciate the process of getting better. He admired photographers and cinematographers from a very early age and did his best to emulate them, even when his friends told him to give up on trying to be a photographer. This guy is a born hustler and someone I look up to. We met nearly 5 years ago and I haven't stopped bugging him since. Hear, as we discuss, why it's important that you know who you are and create from there, rather than creating for what people think you are. We talk about the importance of creating for you and not for the likes. John also gives us some help on figuring how we can manage our side hustles when we've got to work a day job! I'm so excited to get into it with this dude - get out your pens and papers kids, this is gonna be a good one! Episode 1 - Feeling Understood Welcome to the Creator's Therapy podcast, where our stories hold our cure. Creator's Therapy is hosted by DJ Acevedo, aka: WildIndeed - who is an associate therapist, a content creator, a photographer, videographer, brand builder, and a story teller. This is a place where creatives get their biggest questions answered. Where worlds meet, where we discover how to go deeper in our creative endeavors. This is a place where we hear from some of best creatives around to hear about who they are, where they came from, and get the pieces of wisdom they have discovered along the way while also learning about what makes us, us. In this Episode, DJ introduces what Creator's Therapy is all about while also giving you a little glimpse into his story and how we got to where we are today. Our stories hold our cure. As well as we know ourselves, we still have so much to learn. The more I’ve learned about human behavior and the more I’ve gotten to know people, especially creative people, the more I have felt a need. As a creative I have felt misunderstood. As a therapist I have felt the urgency to understand. So Creator’s Therapy is a series of conversations, sessions, rants, and random thoughts in an effort to help cultivate other creatives, forward thinkers, entrepreneurs, and the rest of us misfit lot that need to feel like there are others just like us out there. Creator’s Therapy is going to be more than a podcast, it’s a community. A tribe. -----Let's Connect!----- Facebook: Creator's Therapy Instagram: Creator's Therapy DJ's links Instagram: WildIndeed Twitter: WildIndeed Youtube: WildIndeed
