En Italia había servido el mando del Gran Capitán, aprendió tácticas de infantería y el uso de armas de fuego que resultarían decisivas en su futuro. En 1511, poco después de haber llegado a las Indias, naufragó cerca de las costas de Jamaica. Él y un clérigo llamado Jerónimo de Aguilar fueron los únicos supervivientes que llegaron a la península de Yucatán, donde fueron capturados por los indígenas. A diferencia de Aguilar, que trató de mantenerse fiel a su identidad española, Guerrero decidió integrarse plenamente en la cultura maya. Freedom Angels founders Denise Aguilar and Tara Thorton describe how they (a former gang member and a former liberal) came together under the common mission to protect children in California against state leadership hell-bent on doing irreparable damage to them.  In this episode the Freedom Angels warn the rest of the nation about Governor Gavin Newsom who wants to be President more than anything on the planet and will stop at nothing in that pursuit.
