What if conflict isn't something to avoid, but rather a doorway to creativity and growth? In this episode, Philippa and Penelope Waller challenge us to transform how we view disagreement in our personal and professional lives. Most of us instinctively avoid conflict or approach it as a win-lose battle. We've been conditioned to see tension as destructive rather than potentially creative. What if we viewed it as a refreshing alternative: conflict as the spark that ignites innovation and deeper understanding. Like "the grit in your oyster" that eventually produces a pearl, our most uncomfortable moments often lead to our greatest growth. When working with teams and organisations, Philippa and Penelope explore how conflict signals what needs attention in our relationships and systems. That persistent friction between colleagues? It's rarely about the surface issue – it's the system's way of highlighting deeper needs for recognition, clarity, or fairness. By listening to conflict rather than suppressing it, we access insights that might otherwise remain hidden. Also how can a understanding of the drama triangle (victim-persecutor-rescuer) make us work towards the winner's triangle (creator-challenger-coach). This powerful framework offers concrete roles we can intentionally adopt to transform unproductive tensions into opportunities for collaboration.Ready to stop sweeping tensions under the carpet and instead harness their creative potential?Subscribe to continue exploring how intentional communication can transform your relationships and unlock your potential as a four-dimensional human being.

We're back—and now streaming on hockeyhotstove.com! In this episode, we break down the highs, lows, and head-scratchers of the Leafs' playoff performance, as they are in the thick of it versus the Florida Panthers in this 2nd round series. Joseph Woll has been thrown into the fire with a tough goaltending assignment, while the team continues to struggle with scoring in key moments. Penalties sure disrupted the Leafs momentum in game 4, and Auston Matthews is getting heat despite his strong defensive play, but Tanev's toughness has been a game-changer—and we're here for it! The Leafs as a unit will need to take their cue from this tenacious D'man if they hope to come out on top in this now best of three showdown. We also shine a light on the community side of the game. We were delighted to have welcomed Ultimate Leafs Fan Mike Wilson on with us to talk about an important fundraising initiative he is championing in support of a cure for ALS; one that that hockey fans will definitely want to get involved with! Of course, while he was with us we also got his thoughts on the Leafs vs Panthers series, and chatted about his experiences following the Blue and White on the road. We could've talked to Mike for hours, as he has some incredible stories! The playoffs are all about momentum swings, and the Leafs have allowed the Panthers to get some. A quick start and taking our game to them will be the key to getting it back. Go Leafs Go! Before Google Maps. Before smartphones. Before Silicon Valley gave mobile a second thought — the Blumberg brothers were strapping GPS units to PalmPilots and piping real estate data through them. In this episode, Nick Smoot sits down with Brad and Eric Blumberg, the underdog inventors who quietly pioneered location-based real estate search and filed the first patents that would later shape the mobile experience we take for granted. From living a few blocks apart in Jersey to battling billion-dollar giants over the definition of “proximate,” the brothers share their wild ride through invention, patent wars, early startup life, and building trust with major partners before “startup” was even a cultural word. This one's about grit, timing, vision — and being early enough that people thought you were crazy. They were the first to hack GPS and mobile devices to make real estate location-aware.At a time when telecom was obsessed with “minutes,” they were shouting: “It's about data.”Selling a vision is often harder than building the tech. They faced deep skepticism from insiders who couldn't see the future — yet.Real innovation demands a shift in perception — and persistence when no one's clapping yet. They proved you could shop for homes on a tiny screen long before Zillow or Redfin.Innovation often starts by refusing to follow the rules everyone else takes for granted. They stuck to their vision even through lawsuits, economic downturns, and tech shifts.Progress doesn't happen in a straight line — it's messy, hard, and worth it.At the center of it all: understanding real user needs, not just market trends.Check out AstorKey, their newest innovation using encrypted, decentralized data to rethink how mortgages are done — without giving up your identity to the internet forever.

I have to do what feels right.” “There's magic and transformation when you bring like-minded, passionate people together.” “When you try to appeal to everybody, you actually end up appealing to nobody.” “All those no's I got—some people say rejected—I just say redirected. I always thought, ‘Well, that's okay, that's one more no to get me closer to that yes.'” “What's meant for us will always come to us.” “Why would I get a job making minimum wage like my friends, when I can literally make $600 in a day doing my own business?” “Create a life that you don't want to escape from.” “No is actually one of the best things you can hear—and that is counterintuitive. The more no's you get, the closer you get to the right yeses—the people you need to be investing in and spending time with. What you don't want is that kind of half-hearted ‘Yeah, okay' from someone, and you end up investing a lot of time, and it ends up being a waste for you.” “Being resilient is definitely not bouncing back. It's choosing to move forward with courage so you can have a life filled with laughter and love and joy. And it's getting up again and being unstoppable.” “When you shift your mindset with gratitude, it is alchemy. It really gets you focused on what you can do instead of what you can't do. And it allows you to be in acceptance of where you are, who you are, and where you are on your journey.” “Grit when you're working hard is good, but grit without connection is resistance. It's clawing your way to the top. It's hitting roadblocks, or it's burnout. But grit with connection—that's where we really find resilience.” “When you have a why, you can get through any how.” “I focused on the fact that they said I had a chance. There's a 1% chance to save my leg. And so that's what I'm going to focus on.” “A good leader is a good listener. They have compassion. They're willing to share their struggles. They're willing to walk alongside their team.” BOOKS MENTIONED: The One Truth: Elevate Your Mind, Unlock Your Power, Heal Your Soul by Jon Gordon (https://a.co/d/5twkXz7) The Happy Hustle Version 2.0 by Cary Jack (https://a.co/d/3wgkRcw) The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Don Miguel Ruiz & Janet Mills (https://a.co/d/3fk3uHM) USEFUL RESOURCES: https://amberlylago.com/ https://amberlylago.com/podcast/ https://www.instagram.com/amberlylagomotivation https://www.linkedin.com/in/amberlylago/ https://www.facebook.com/amberly.lago/ https://x.com/AmberlyLago https://www.youtube.com/@AmberlyLagoMotivation The Pace of Pain - TEDxBerkeley (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3gEfdAcO_8) True Grit and Grace: Turning Tragedy into Triumph (https://a.co/d/gKdsjVp) Joy Through the Journey: Shift Your Mindset, Embrace the Present Moment, and Cultivate Resilience Through Life's Ups and Downs (https://a.co/d/gOiq4Sj) CONNECT WITH JOHN Website - https://iamjohnhulen.com Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/johnhulen Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/johnhulen X - https://x.com/johnhulen LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/johnhulen YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLX_NchE8lisC4NL2GciIWA EPISODE CREDITS Intro and Outro music provided by Jeff Scheetz - https://jeffscheetz.com/
In this episode of The Admittedly Podcast, host Thomas Caleel tackles a big question many students have heading into summer: What should I do for my passion project? The truth? Passion projects can either be a meaningful expression of who you are—or a major red flag. This episode unpacks the difference between performative efforts and authentic impact. Thomas explains why passion projects often fall flat in the admissions process and what to do instead: follow your curiosity, pursue meaningful work, and focus deeply on what actually drives you. He shares real stories of students—some with privilege, some without—who pursued their passions authentically and got into top-tier schools. The difference? Intention, effort, and heart. Key Takeaways: Performative Projects CAN Hurt You: If your project lacks depth, commitment, or clarity of purpose, it can work against you in admissions. Officers can see when something is done just to “check a box.” Do What You're Genuinely Passionate About: The goal isn't to impress—it's to express. Focus on meaningful work that reflects you. This is how you stand out. Less is More: Don't try to do everything. Do fewer things, but do them well. Authenticity and depth beat quantity every time. You Don't Need Funds to Make an Impact: Thomas shares examples of students who made real change with limited resources. Grit, creativity, and initiative matter more than funding. As we head into summer, take a hard look at how you're spending your most valuable resource: your time. This is not about checking a box—it's about building something meaningful, something that reflects who you are and what you truly care about. Ask yourself: What fills your cup? What drains it? Have the courage to step away from the things that no longer serve you. Don't build a project for the sake of appearances. Build something that matters—to you, and to the world. Tell us what you're working on, what you're considering, and what questions you have. We're here for the journey. Start the conversation with us @admittedlyco on Instagram and TikTok!

Even in the face of unimaginable tragedy and grief, Martin Short has always kept his sense of humor. As a young man, he channels three devastating personal losses into becoming a performing dynamo. Instead of being defined by these tragedies, he's emboldened to go out and pursue his acting dreams in Toronto in the 70s. The Canadian city is a hotbed of future comedy icons like Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, and Gilda Radner. And Martin fits right in. It starts with a production of “Godspell,” and Martin never looks back. It takes him to stardom on TV, stage, and the big screen. And now, with “Only Murders in the Building,” a bromance with Steve Martin, and a rumored romance with Meryl Streep, this triple-threat Emmy winner is as hot as ever. And living proof that with grit, determination, and a killer sense of humor, you can survive anything. You can follow Brooke and Aricia on socials at @brookesiffrinn and @ariciaskidmorewilliamss.
