Today we look at Matthew 23 and Jesus’ declaring 7 woes against the legalistic Pharisees. As we do this we ask ourselves what legalism is causing us to live a woeful life?

All of us have had a difficult year. 2020 has caused anxiety and depression to be even more rampant than it already was in 2019. Today we walk through Philippians 4:6-9 and find three desires of God for the anxious Christian.

Romans 1:16-17. What is your most embarrassing moment? Most likely the moment you’re thinking of has left you with shame. Some people have that type of shame when it comes to the Gospel. Yet, Paul, states boldly and emphatically that he is not ashamed of the Gospel. In the opening of Romans, he explains why no one should be ashamed of the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Matthew 9:9-13. What should our motivation be in fulfilling the Great Commission? Obedience simply for obedience is insufficient to satisfy our Lord’s directive. No, we must have the right motivation, we must view people as Jesus viewed them. We must love them as Jesus loved them. We must be a friend of sinners just as Jesus was a Friend of sinners.

Philippians 3:12-16. Identity is core of who we are, the foundation for how we act and feel. An identity rooted in the wrong things can lead to all sorts of suffering and depression. Paul tells us what we should be rooting our identity in as Christians. Our identity is in Jesus which enables us to move to Jesus through Jesus.

Revelation 5. We all love a good story. A common theme runs through many of the stories we love – redemption. These redemption stories remind us of what Christ did in order to accomplish salvation and redemption for His people. Revelation 5 is about the climax of this story of redemption and the focus is all on Jesus. Why? Because He alone is worthy…

Psalm 32. David is known as hero of the faith, but this hero did some pretty evil things. Much like many of us, David didn’t want anyone including God to know about his failures. So what did he do? He kept it all inside and did whatever it took to keep his sin from being found out. The guilt of his sin caused David extreme pain. We too have sin in our hearts so how can we be free from the guilt and pain of sin? David shows us in this Psalm…

Acts 2:42-47. Every place, every people group has a unique culture. Every church then has a culture. What should shape this culture? Should tradition? Should secular society? The concluding section of Luke’s recording of the founding of the church shows how the Gospel should be what shapes the culture of the local church.

Acts 2:37-41. What does it mean to be converted to Christianity? Peter explains how one can come to saving faith in Christ through repentance, but this sincere repentance has ramifications in one’s life. There are rhythms to this repentance namely - baptism and church membership.

Acts 2:25-36. Peter’s last words to the Israelites in his most famous sermon is a concluding illustration. Peter shows how Jesus is qualified to be the Lord prophesied by Joel through demonstrating how Jesus fulfills the Davidic Covenant. Peter also uses David’s Messianic Psalms to show how “This Jesus” is the better David.

Acts 2:22-24. A question must have been resonating in the minds of Peter’s listeners following his recital of Joel’s prophecy. Who is this Lord who can save one from sin? The rest of Peter’s sermon is all about Jesus’ unique qualifications to be Lord. Tonight we look at 4 of these qualifications.

Acts 2:14-21.  As Peter begins his first public sermon that we have accounted within the Scriptures, she states the importance of the moment. The arrival of the Holy Spirit is a fulfillment of prophecy, some of which is actually pretty devastating. The Last Days have begun. It from this introduction that the entirety of Peter’s message builds into what God used to see His Church established. Peter has much to recite from Joel regarding the Spirit, the last days, and the urgency of the mission of the Church.

Acts 2:1-13. Speaking in tongues is one of the most controversial subjects in Christianity and for good reason as it can be confusing to many. A variety of views are held by many who would claim Christ, so what are we to believe about it? Acts 2 provides many of the answers to the what, how, and why of speaking in tongues. 

Acts 1:12-26. Have you ever been betrayed by someone you considered a friend? It happens in our personal lives, but it also happens in the local church. We all have had friends at church who seemingly believed as we do, but ended up abandoning the faith. Historically, we call these individuals “apostates.” What are we to do about these apostates? Is there hope for reconciliation?…

Acts 1:9-11. While many Christians love Christmas and Easter due to a focus on the incarnation or resurrection, many forget the crowning moment of Jesus’ ministry - His Ascension. In this sermon we tackle three big questions: 1. What is the Ascension? 2. How did the Ascension affect the Apostles? 3. Why does the Ascension matter to us?

Acts 1:6-8. The time has come for Jesus to ascend to His Heavenly throne and leave His Apostles on earth. The Apostles ask one last pressing question on their hearts. Jesus’ answer to their question describes the timing, message, and scope of His Kingdom.

Acts 1:4-5. It’s often been said that the Book of Acts is really the story of the Holy Spirit. So it is interesting that He is introduced through the important term “baptism of the Holy Spirit.” But what exactly is this baptism?  Is it a secondary experience to salvation or something else?

The Book of Acts holds a special place of importance when it comes to the local church. Today we begin a slow journey through this wonderful book asking ourselves, “What does it mean to be the church?” The first 5 verses of this book help us to properly understand and interpret the rest of it. Today we begin with the first 3 verses. Acts 1:1-3

We all know weird Christians. We all know needy Christians. When we look around the church, it becomes clear that the vast majority of Christians would fit into these categories. Why is this? Is Christianity a crutch for the weak or does God have a purpose in how He has composed the church? And should Christiniaty be rid of the weird aspects of our faith in order to get more people in the doors? I Corinthians 26-31

What does it mean to live on mission? We know the mission is to make disciples from Matthew 28, but how do we make that a priority in our lives? Paul shows us in I Corinthians 9 that the mission was the reason for his many sacrifices. I Corinthians 9:19-23...

 Spiritual depression might not be talked about among Christians, but it is a major problem in our churches. So many Christians silently struggle with spiritual depression due to being fearful or embarrassed about their emotional state. Yet, David writes about his depression in Psalm 42...

Everyone wants to have an impact for Christ, but we cannot reach our community without a heart for the city. In the book of Jonah we see a beautiful example of a heart for the city, although not from the prophet. Jonah 4…

We all need community. We were created with that deep need to be in relationship with other people. But not all community is good for us, we need healthy community. The local church is supposed to be where we can find healthy community. Many churches are far from it though, so how can we help our church be a healthy community? Philippians 2:3-4 show us what a healthy community looks like. 

Who is the Rock of the Church? What is the power of the Church? Many of the foundational questions regarding the Church are answered in Jesus' first words on the matter to Peter. Preached on 3/11/2018 at Moose Jaw Baptist Church. 

Romans 12:1-2. All of us want to know what God's will is? Yet, many of us think of His will as lost and in need of being found. Is God's will lost? Or is it right in front of us?

James 1:22-25. There are two types of Bible readers in the world: 1. That that only read the Bible 2. Those who read and do the Bible. James calls us to put our faith into practice by actually living what we read and not being a hypocritical observer of the Word.

James 1:19-21. Do you struggle with anger? Sometimes we can write off anger as just part of our personality, but James teaches us that anger is much more than a character fault, rather it is abominable to God and must be put away from us just as any other sin.

What is so important about Jesus being the Son of God? Everything. I John 5:20-21

We continue on in the Christmas series "The Genealogy of God" and this week we focus on "Jesus The Son Of Abraham". This shows how Jesus is the fulfillment of the promise God gave to Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3.

We kick off a new Christmas themed series titled "The Genealogy of God" from Luke 3. In this first installment we look at Boaz and Ruth, not only is it a great love story but it is a picture of how Christ is our Kinsman Redeemer.

While James 1:14-15 show us that man's desire is to sin continuously, our text today shows us just how "other" God is because He desires salvation for all sinners. James 1:16-18

Who is responsible for all the pain and suffering in the world and in our lives? It's easy to blame God, but is He responsible? If not, who is to blame? James 1:13-15

What are you living for? As we look to James 1:9-12 we must examine our priorities and ask whether our priorities align with what God desires.

500 years ago God used men like Martin Luther who taught justification was by faith and faith alone. to recover His Gospel. Justification by faith alone has many implications in our lives. Text is Romans 5:1-2.

We examine James 1:5-8 and look at the application of wisdom in the context of affliction.

We examine James 1:1-4 and consider the joy that is found only through suffering.

We examine Joshua 4 and challenges us to consider what are the "monuments" in our life where we can testify to God's grace.

Today we look at one of the most beautiful but also heartbreaking sections of the Bible. The parable of the vineyard and the wicked tenants is a grand scale story about all of creation and what happened when men fell into sin. Luke 20:9-18

Many of us know the parable of the prodigal son, but today we look into the older brother and his relationship with both his father and his brother. Luke 15:25-32

Today we are in the story of the lost son or most widely known as the prodigal son. This story contains the most beautiful expression of the relatship between a father and son. This is a wonderful account of what our sin looks like in the eyes of God and the devastation we bring upon ourselves. Yet, Jesus is waiting and ready to run to us. Luke 15:11-24

As we dive back into our series of the Parables: The Stories Jesus Told. We find ourselves at Luke 13:22-30 with the Parable of the Narrow Door. In this parable Jesus is asked a question, "Will only a few be saved?" Jesus not only answers this question but explains why only a few will be saved. In doing so He reveals a core truth of the Gospel that is both exclusive and inclusive at the same time. Luke 13:22-30

Today we focus on the importance and Biblical command of baptism and church membership. This is so important as we see our culture being absolutely devoid of all commitments. The Life of a Christian is commitment.

While many know this passage as the Parable of the Sower, the real focus on the various types of soil that are affected by the one seed. These are those who hear the Word of God, the Seed, and Jesus describes how the Gospel then affects them. How does this impact our evangelism? Luke 8:4-15
