Favela Funk! pays homage to Brazilian Funk Carioca music from Rio De Janerio. It's roots are derived from Miami Bass. In Rio De Janeiro it is most often simply known as funk, although it is very different musically from what funk means in most other places. "Baile funk", in Rio, refers not to the music, but to the actual parties in which the music is played. Favela Funk! takes place on February 6th, 2010 from 8pm-2am at Lab 24/7 located at 247 Stuyvesant Avenue between Putnam & Madison Avenues. Music will be provided by DJ Don Cuco (http://www.myspace.com/djdoncuco) who be spinning a array of Carioca Funk, Afro-Beat, Nu-Jazz and Soulful House accompanied by live percussion. 8pm-9:30pm: Screening of Favela Rising, a documentary based on Favela music and Life in Rio De Janiero Brazilian Food & Drinks will be on sale Admission: $7.00 All proceeds go towards the production (artists, food, DJ) of the event
