But where did this movement come from, and why did it fade away? In this episode, we dive into the world of Miami Bass, dB Drag Racing, and the infamous tapes that could shred your subwoofers. On a random night in August 1992, while DJ'ing at an Atlanta strip club, Cecil Glenn pops in a tape he and his musical counterpart Steve Gibson have been working on. Influenced by the pulsing Miami Bass scene, it's also layered with fast-paced Georgia swagger and an infectious call-and-response chorus. Immediately, patrons rush Cecil's audio booth to find out who made this track, and how they can get a copy. Record labels, MTV hosts and more also came calling, leading to "Whoomp! (There It Is)" quickly going platinum, a mere six weeks after he'd quit that same DJ gig, to focus on original music full-time. Fast-forward 30+ years and “Whoomp!" remains not just the best-selling rap single of all-time, but a ubiquitous pop culture reference, with Cecil (aka DC The Brain Supreme) and Steve (Roll'n) touring the globe and continuing to pump up crowds of all-ages. This week, DC discusses how "Whoomp!" continues to find new audiences, how he leans in to thinking backwards, and why a blizzard ended up being a perfect storm for the duo's early success. The story of 2 Live Crew is one of response. Response to reactionary pearl-clutching over their work which dared to talk out *checks notes* eating ass, among other things. This lead 2 Live Crew to lean all the way into being the flagbearers of the Miami Bass subgenre whilst getting everybody to free up their sexual inhibitions.TIMESTAMPS:Weekly Music Roundup - (0:54)Ben:da beatminerz - Stifled CreativityCharlie:John Glacier - Duppy GunCJ Fly - baitedCJ Fly & NasteeLuvzYou - thePhaRaOh'S return 2: NUBIA SuperJazz Club - MONOCHROME RADIOMaeta - Endless NightKaelin Ellis - You Are Here, StartLebra Jolie - What Was Said?Sango - North Vol. 2Homeboy Sandman - Rich IIDon Glori - Don't Forget to Have FunTopic Intro/Ben's Research House - (10:44)The 2 Live Crew Is What We Are - (21:54)Move Somethin' - (29:51)As Nasty as They Wanna Be - (39:55)Banned in the U.S.A. - (51:43)Sports Weekend: As Nasty as They Wanna Be, Pt. 2 - (1:00:12)Back at Your Ass for the Nine-4 - (1:05:44)Lighter Note - (1:21:24)Thanks for listening. Whether she is spinning at underground parties or famous clubs and venues, Dubai-based French-Iranian DJ Parvané, aka Parv, dominates the decks with her euphoria-inducing sets. Blending a wide range of genres into one juicy cacophony, her sound swiftly shifts from Miami Bass, Breakbeat and UKG to Chicago house, Ghetto tech with afro and Brazilian funky undertones. For our Select 252, Parv cooked us a bouncy mix of Baile funk, featuring sweeping basslines, sharp breakbeats and tunes like 1950's ‘Gimme' that will make you fall in love with music all over again.
Alright y'all no frills we're starting super ultra mega deep this week, expect plenty of pads, keys & reverbed out vocals right out of the gate to get your interest piqued. It's all fine and dandy till the 2nd hour turns a bit unhinged, with Miami Bass moments in between RnB bootleg bliss. For more info and tracklisting, visit: https://thefaceradio.com/daydreamsl/Tune into new broadcasts of Daydreams,Saturday from 4 - 6 PM EST / 9 - 11 PM GMT.//Dig this show?
In Episode 17, I speak again with my old friend and fellow rave war veteran, Phil Klein, also known as Bass Junkie. Phil is a highly respected UK music producer, having crafted tunes since the late 1980s, and is known for his deep love of Electro and Miami Bass. In this second of our two part discussion, we delve into his experiences with underground parties in the 1990s, his ventures to Miami for production collaborations with his Electro heroes Dynamix II, the establishment of his record label Battle Trax, and the release of his music under various aliases. In Episode 16, I speak with my old friend and fellow rave war veteran, Phil Klein, also known as Bass Junkie. Phil is a highly respected UK music producer, having crafted tunes since the late 1980s, and is known for his deep love of Electro and Miami Bass. In this first of our two part discussion, we delve into his early music recollections, highlighting the pivotal moment when his cousin introduced him to the Street Sounds Electro series in 1983, an encounter that significantly altered the trajectory of his life. After reflecting on his memories of the iconic hip-hop event, UK Fresh, held at Wembley Arena in 1986, we then explore Phil's journey of delving into imported twelve-inch records from Groove Records in Soho, alongside his relentless pursuit of rare tunes. Subsequently, we explore his foray into mastering scratching techniques and crafting beats. Finishing this episode, we explore Phil's initiation into free parties, alongside members of the local Fear Teacher's sound system. In the next episode, we will delve into his experiences with underground parties in the 1990s, his ventures to Miami for production collaborations with Dynamix II, the establishment of his record label Battle Trax, and the release of music under various aliases. Additionally, we'll touch upon the London Electro scene of the early 2000s, centred around parties from Haywire and the Foundry bar in Shoreditch, as well as delve into the intricacies of his ongoing music and podcasting endeavours.

They didn't pick this one last week so I had to bring it back this time. This was one of my favorite episodes to record in a while. They had no idea what was coming in this movie and I even broke out the voice recorder to catch their reactions to the ending and you will not want to miss that! We also talked about being Team Leatherface, PBS shows, Miami Bass, more stories from childhood, camp stories and we make sure that we'll never get a sponsorship from a certain restaurant... Release Date Worldwide: 24/11/2022 Respect for essence and naturalness are fundamental aspects for the constant enhancement that Seed Selector has been achieving. Since 2019, the DJ and producer has been exploring more melodic and progressive House textures, adding references from Breakbeat, Funk and even Miami Bass. Thus, he generated a musical signature that not only honors his roots, but establishes them in the frenetic electronic music scene. Labels such as Cocada Music, Levels Rec, Namata, Subliminar and Warung Records are already on the producer's curriculum, as well as collaborations with Leo Janeiro and L_cio. On his return from activities, visits to clubs such as Beehive, Chaos, D-Edge and Warung Beach Club naturally took place, consecrating him as a new promise." soundcloud.com/seed_selector instagram.com/seedselector.wav linktr.ee/seedselector soundcloud.com/sabiarecords instagram.com/sabia.music www.beatport.com/label/sabia-records/79526

In this episode Marysella Castillo founder of All Things Friday joins us to settle an iconic 90s hip hop debate. Two songs. Two similar phrases. Which one is it? Tag Team's "Whoomp There It Is" or 95 South's "Whoot There It Is"? Regardless of the answer, one thing is for certain, booties are gonna be shakin'. We also get into censorship in the 90s, the cocaine infused origins of Miami Bass, the Arsenio Hall Show, Freaknik and more. '''Trigger Run Production (TRP)''' is one of [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albany,_Georgia Albany's (GA)] greatest hidden treasures in the city's underground music and entertainment scene. The musical dance/rap group composed of students from Monroe and Westover High School started performing back in 1989 at a local high school talent show. However, it was not until the fall of 1993 that would send Trigger Run into the stratosphere as a local treasure, and entertainment ambassadors, of the city as they would perform center stage on the world renown and famed amateur night at the Apollo Theater in New York City, NY. This platform would serve as the catalyst that would set the city a blaze thus catapulting Trigger Run into the urban legend that it has become known today as one of the city's most versatile and influential [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hip_hop_music hip-hop] groups born and raised in the Good Life City. Trigger Run would find marginal success in 1992 teaming up with WJIZ (96.3), and the Pride of Albany, to perform their first professional concert at the Albany Amphitheater along the city's riverfront. Looking to expand their musical prowess, in the summer of ‘94, the group would venture down south to team up with Miami Bass artist Clay D and Total Kaos as the opening act to promote their indie single release “Pump Ya Fist”. In 1998, Trigger Run would travel north to the new Motown known as Atlanta to perform their second indie release single “Toss It Up”. Trigger Run's underground music revolution created a cosmetic shift that would resonate throughout the city and re-inspired a musical revolution not known since Albany's own Ray Charles. Trigger Run's influence would help unearth undiscovered talent thus inspiring a music revolution that would birth record labels such as Southern House, Platinum Sound Studios and arguably one of the most successful rap groups to call Albany home, [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Field_Mob Field Mob] (Shawn Timothy Johnson and Darion Crawford). We're officially 3 years deep in this podcast game and we got 56 episodes and a bunch of tributes and great interviews to show for it. In three short years, we've landed the greatest producers of all-time like DJ Premier (twice), Pete Rock and Erick Sermon. We've interviewed legendary MC's like KRS-One, Redman, Masta Ace, Pharoahe Monch, Casual, Del and were fortunate enough to chopped it up with Roc Marciano, Evidence, Murs, Planet Asia, Ras Kass, Slug, Apathy, Open Mike Eagle, Supastition and Bonz Malone to name a few. We covered Philly hip-hop, Brooklyn hip-hop, Indie hip-hop, West Coast hip-hop, Southern hip-hop and produced extensive tributes for DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Nas, Jay-Z, YO! MTV Raps, Native Tongues, KRS-One, Prodigy, Redman, Hieroglyphics, Atmosphere, Pharoahe Monch and Wu-Tang Clan. Plus, we Respect(ed) The Architects while covering LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, Slick Rick, Big Daddy Kane, Eric B. & Rakim, Run-DMC, EPMD and Boogie Down Productions. We also tackled New Jack Swing, acid jazz as well as Miami Bass. There isn't much we haven't covered or won't cover. We take great pride in being diverse, while keeping it classic. On Episode 56, our 3rd anniversary special, we take a break from all the tributes and interviews and deliver you music that'll bound to wreck your body and say turn the party out. It's a celebration! Thank you for being a part of our extended family and for keeping hip-hop alive. Happy Holidays!
The Miami Bass movement was extremely prominent in the 80s and 90s, thanks to legendary artists like 2 Live Crew, MC Shy D, Planet Patrol, Gucci Crew, Anquette, Poison Clan and Clay D. The DJ's also played a significant role in the movement as well, like Mr. Mixx, DJ Magic Mike, DJ Laz, Uncle Al, Jam Pony Express, Felix Sama, Power Supply and Jealous J (Jim Jonsin). While most people think Uncle Luke when talking about Miami Bass, the scene was so thick as Andre would say. Before you had Pitbull, Flo Rida, Kodak Black, Rick Ross, Ace Hood, DJ Khaled, Stitches, Lil Pump or XXXTENTACION, you had this great music featured on our 1 hour and 23 minute mix. We know our core audience is prominently east coast (bias) and we all know where hip-hop started. If you're a fan of Take It Personal, you'll know we cover everything and take pride in showcasing music from all over. But it's important to listen, understand and appreciate what other regions like the South have to offer. We don't expect you to love everything we play, but everything played on this tribute was played for a reason. This is an extensive timeline of Miami Bass themed music and while the Miami sound evolved and featured less bass as the years went on, all these tracks capture an important time in music, especially in the MIA. This is our Miami Bass Tribute. We hope you all enjoy it!
Episode 41 is the 2nd installment of our Southern Tribute. On this episode we pay homage to the legendary Scarface, U.G.K. and the Miami Bass movement of the 80s and 90s. This extra-large show also features music from 2 Live Crew, DJ Magic Mike, Poison Clan, MC Shy D, Rick Ross, Eightball & MJG, Devin The Dude, Young Buck, Trae The Truth, Jeezy, Big Boi, Trick Daddy and many more. Stay tuned for part 3, where we continue to show the South love, while focusing on No Limit, Cash Money and Swisherhouse Records. Not to mention, we got some nice surprises for ya before we take you out with the fader! www.takeitpersonalradio.com www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal Follow us on Instagram @takeitpersonalradio
