Gwynn & Chris On Demand, hosted by Tony Gwynn, Jr. and Chris Ello, afternoons 3-7pm on 973 The Fan.

Gone are the days when Buehler could simply blow 98 mph past hitters on command. During the interview, he spoke openly about having to reinvent himself and relying more on his cutter to survive. Interestingly, Buehler admits his cutter isn't a "unicorn pitch" with gravity-defying movement. Instead, he uses it strategically to navigate through lineups without the overpowering velocity of his past. "I think trying to establish my four-seam fastball regardless of the fact that it's not 95, 97, 98 like it was in years past is important for me, and letting [the cutter] kind of be a weapon and not really the whole show."
