This week we're taking a closer look at the latest lawsuit against California's unique handgun restrictions. So, who better to talk to than one of the plaintiffs in the case? That's why I reached out to Reno May. He has joined the suit claiming California's ban on "unsafe" handguns violates the Second Amendment. May's case comes after two previous challenges to the law have failed. Plaintiffs in the new case, which include the California Rifle and Pistol Association, argue the Supreme Court's New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen decision calls for renewed scrutiny of the regulations. They contend the state's modern first-of-their-kind restrictions can't clear the text and tradition test set in Bruen because there is no historical analogue for the roster. The "microstamping" provision, which requires all new pistol models to include technology that does not exist in any production firearm on the planet, is at the core of the plaintiffs' problems with the law. May said it shows the goal is to restrict handgun ownership rather than keep unsafe firearms out of the safe. He said the same was true of the requirement that three approved guns be removed for every one gun added to the roster. May said the law has a number of contradictions that undermine it as well. He noted that law enforcement is allowed to own and carry pistols the state deems "unsafe," and the majority of the guns on the roster don't include the safety features required in the act. Joining the suit puts May in the company of others who operate popular YouTube channels focused on gun ownership. He explained why he decided to get more involved in activism and why he thinks other "GunTubers" are doing the same. Plus, Contributing Writer Jake Fogelman and I talk about the new ATF inspection controversy and how it gives insight into the new relationship between the agency and the industry. Special Guest: Reno May.
In the third hour, Dan Bernstein and Laurence Holmes were joined by Score teammate and Tribune beat writer Dan Wiederer to discuss the injuries to Bears receivers N'Keal Harry and Byron Pringle, the odds that offensive lineman Teven Jenkins will make the 53-man roster and more. After that, Bernstein and Holmes had a conversation about White Sox hitting coach Frank Menechino as the team continues to struggle offensively and lacks power. Later, the guys discussed White Sox right-hander Dylan Cease's impactful season.

In this episode of Locked on Capitals I talk about this Capitals aging roster the talk around the league that this team need to get younger and faster. How do they achieve that while still keeping the veteran core together. The caps only have several years of Alex Ovechkin and the "rock the red" era caps. Brian Maclellan made some big moves during free agency signing: Darcy Kuemper, Dylan Strome and Connor Brown to help solidify the Capitals lineup. The Capitals need to get younger but how do they do it when they keep signing or re-signing older players. Look for these players to fight for a spot on this season's Capitals lineup: Connor McMichael, center. Alexander Alexeyev, defenseman. Lucas Johansen, defenseman. Aliaksei Protas, forward. The San Francisco Giants have another roster crunch upcoming, with several players set to return from the injured list in the coming days. How they're going to fit those players onto the roster remains to be seen. Prior to last night's game, speedy outfielder Bryce Johnson was added to the Giants' roster. Johnson gives the SF Giants a rare element on this team: disruptive speed and high-end defense. But will he stick on the roster? Brandon Crawford and Joc Pederson are set to return on Saturday. Thairo Estrada will re-join the Giants on Sunday. Evan Longoria is likely to be added to the SF Giants' roster early next week. So who's going to come off the roster? David Villar can be optioned, but should he be? Is it really worth playing Longoria over Villar if the 2022 season is lost (which it isn't quite yet) and they don't expect him to be a part of next year's team (also unclear)? Yermín Mercedes can be optioned. The Giants will likely DFA Dixon Machado this weekend. But even if they make all of those moves, they'll still need to make more. Will the Giants option promising youngsters like Luis González or Johnson? Or will they finally cut ties with a struggling veteran like Tommy La Stella. whose tenure in San Francisco has been a disaster? As our attention turns towards the future, Joey Bart is highlighted. Bart's numbers since getting called back up by the Giants in early July are eye-opening. He's been striking out less, chasing less, and making more contact on swings in the strike zone. He's also showing more confidence and leadership, and has done a very good job defensively, whether it's framing pitches, blocking, or throwing out baserunners. Many are predicting a national championship season for Ohio State, or at least a season where the Buckeyes will be one of the few teams in the hunt. This season's national championship game will be held at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and the road to the title game begins on Thursday for the Buckeyes as they kick off preseason camp. * How does the 2022 roster stack up against some of the really good rosters we have seen at OSU over the last decade or so? We do an extremely deep dive into that subject. * What will be the two-deep on the offensive line? * What will be Cody Simon's role? * Switching to recruiting, what is the latest with 4-star 2023 linebacker Arvell Reese? Will the Buckeyes go back to their old Glenville pipeline to fill an important need in their class? Does Reese definitely want to be a Buckeye? * Will some of the recent misses in defensive recruiting open the door for OSU to flip recruits from other programs late in this cycle? Or help the Buckeyes land defensive players in the portal following the 2022 season? All of that and much more is coming your way on the Monday 5ish as Dave Biddle flies solo. Eric Fawcett (Gator Country) and Neil W. Blackmon break down Florida's final addition to the 2022-23 roster, German big man Aleks Szymczyk. Why Szymczk's skill is so intriguing, and why the scholarship makes sense. Plus, Riley Kugel arrives on campus, and Thomas Haugh becomes Florida's first commitment for the 2023 class. Why Kugel is underrated, and why Haugh will fit in well at Florida. Plus, a dive into some of Florida's other 2023 recruiting targets, and what makes each intriguing. The guys also breakdown the PK 85 bracket, Florida's non-conference schedule, and Todd Golden's promotion of the Florida brand, which stands in stark contrast to the secrecy surrounding the program under the prior regime. Why stories like the CBS Sports and Athletic profiles are good for the program, and why the "Florida Brand" is one that sells and compels in college basketball.
