Griffin Canning is a New York Met. The guys dive into that and also discuss the bigger picture approach that David Stearns and the Mets are taking with building their rotation. Note: This episode was recorded WHILE Mike Soroka signed and before Patrick Sandoval signed his deal with the Red Sox on Dec. 20th.
Hour 4: Keith gives his thoughts on the Mets signing Griffin Canning and much more.
It's a brand-new offseason, and *The Put it in the Books Show* is back with an episode that Mets fans won't want to miss. Join Farace, Rodriguez, Keith, and the elusive Producer Joe (still hiding behind the wall like the Wilpons hid their checkbook during the Madoff era) as they break down the biggest moves of the offseason so far—starting with the bombshell news that Juan Soto is now a Met. That's right, Soto signed the biggest contract in North American sports history: 15 years, up to $805 million. Looks like the Coupons are long gone, and Steve Cohen is playing Monopoly with real money. But the Mets aren't done yet. The guys will discuss whether Pete Alonso will be next to lock in a deal or if he's stuck testing the open market, where he's reportedly struggling to find the long-term contract he's after. Will Pete stay in orange and blue, or is it time to panic-buy polar bear plushies? On the pitching front, the Mets made moves by signing Clay Holmes to a 3-year deal to bolster the rotation and picking up Griffin Canning on a low-risk, 1-year depth contract. With rumors of a cheap trade for a big name on the horizon, Mets fans can't help but wonder: Is this team finally ready to dominate, or are we setting ourselves up for another rollercoaster season? Tune in as the hosts break it all down with their trademark dry wit, overanalysis, and a healthy dose of nostalgia for the days when spending like this was just a pipe dream. With the Mets back in the playoffs and building for an even brighter future, it's an offseason filled with hope, excitement, and a touch of chaos—just how we like it. #PiitB #Mets

I'll spread a little cheer and some jeers as I'll start putting some gifts and coal around the tree as I get into all that's going on in sports as THISSSSS.. (6:49) College football fans have been waiting for this. The first ever twelve team playoff commences tomorrow night. I'll go through all of the major storylines (i.e. Ryan Day, Quinn Ewers, anyone? NFL swallowing up Saturday afternoon, etc.) preview each of the games, who's primed for an upset, the best game of the four. Wall to wall coverage of what to possibly expect between the matchups of Indiana-Notre Dame, Clemson-Texas, SMU-Penn State and Tennessee-Ohio State. (31:55) NFL Week 16 kicks off with a good one tonight with tiebreaking implications as the Broncos-Chargers will go at it. Saturday games are re-introduced to us as Houston-Kansas City and Pittsburgh-Baltimore will headline the day. Sunday and Monday are lacking in comparison. Will Michael Penix Jr. deliver for a Falcon team that's been reeling? Can the Lions hang onto to that much needed one seed in the NFC to get a much needed bye in January? (52:42) Have the Milwaukee Bucks turned the corner? After a brutal start to their season, they've come all the way back to win an NBA Cup on Tuesday night over OKC. Is this a springboard to get them back to the top of the Eastern Conference? Then you have a scenario where players have criticized the new All-Star Game format. To whose fault does that fall under? I'll peek at the upcoming weekend schedule as there are a few games to sink our teeth into, including Karl Anthony Towns returning to Minnesota for his first game there since the trade to New York. (1:05:00) On the ice, the Rangers have maybe hit rock bottom. They got shutout by one of the worst teams in the sport (Nashville) and the front office sent another player packing as former #2 overall pick Kaapo Kakko was jettisoned to Seattle. Is a turnaround forthcoming? I'll see what else is going on in the NHL as they inch closer to the halfway point of the season. (1:13:11) The MLB Hot Stove is still cooking these days. The Yankees remain aggressive as they acquire Cody Bellinger from the Cubs. How will he fare behind Aaron Judge in the Bronx? The Mets made a move themselves, but for a 5th line starter in a one, Griffin Canning, formerly of the Angels. Has anyone informed them that Juan Soto was an enormous signing, but their fan base wants more? Where does Nolan Arenado go after he refused a trade to Houston? (1:22:47) There's a heavyweight fight in boxing on Saturday as Tyson Fury tries to redeem himself after losing to current champ, Oleksandr Usyk back in May for a second meeting. How will Fury fare here? Also, how far has boxing fallen to where the general public couldn't tell you who the heavyweight champion is? Fantasy Baseball Live – November 24, 2024Segment 1 – News and Notes1.We had a trade! The Royals traded Brady Singer to the Reds for Jonathan India and Joey Wiemer.a.Who does this free up for playing time in Cincinnati?b.Does Brady Singer's value go down moving to Cincinnati?c.Joey Weimer has alluring tools with plus speed and enough pop to suggest 15 to 20 home run pop. He's never been able to hit. Does he get a shot in Kansas City?2.The Nationals non-tender Kyle Finnegan, and he is now a free agent. I'm not sure I get this one. They couldn't trade him?a.Who do you like to get saves in Washington?3.The Rockies non-tender Brandon Rodgers. I guess this makes sense as he was due for a raise (estimated at $5.5 million), and let's face it, he's not that good, and there are plenty of options.a.Who do you think gets his playing time?4.Finally, the Blue Jays non-tender Jordan Romano. He was estimated to earn $8 million and it appears that the Jays didn't want to take the risk on whether he would return to form. Perhaps they don't like the medicals.a.Who do you like to get saves in Toronto?Segment 2 – Fantasy Questions of the NL East1.Atlanta Bravesa.Michael Harris went late in the second, early third round last year, which resulted in a 16/10 year and a batting average of .264. He's going about in the same spot (42 ADP). Do you like this spot for him.i.We will look at other players going around him to see who you preferb.Stat line for Austin Riley – HR, RBI and BA. He went 19 and 56 last season.i.His ADP is 30.82 and he's going as the third third baseman off the board. Too much or just about right?c.Is Marcel Ozuna turning into Nelson Cruz. He seems to be getting better with age. What are the odds he gets close to his 39/104 with a .302 batting average in 2025?d.What did you think of the trade for Griffin Canning? He has pretty good stuff with a plus change-up and slider, but his fastball gets crushed (.529 SLG). Can the Braves perform magic again here?i.I wrote this before he got non-tendered. I guess the answer is no. Weird though.e.Give me a sleeper in the organization (minor or majors)2.Miami Marlinsa.Connor Norby 2025 stats – HR, SB and BAb.Xavier Edwards stole 31 bases in 70 games last season but has no power. He did hit .328 but it was supported by a .398 BABIP. He's only SS eligible and is the #17 SS off the board. Any interest? If so, how will you make up for the lack of power?c.Deyvision De Los Santos – 2025 stats – AB, HR, and BAxd.Sandy Alcantara is going as the 69th pitcher off the board. Let's call it a number three starter. Is there sneaky value there or do you have to discount him because of the TJS until we know more?e.Is the Marlins closer currently on their roster?f.Give me a sleeper in the organization (minor or majors)3.New York Metsa.Mark Vientos is going to cost you this season. His ADP is 99, and he's the 7th third baseman off the board. Good value or too expensive?i.He has average bat speed but hits the ball extremely hard (80th percentile). There is a ton of swing-and-miss in his game, and he has no speed. Is Jake Burger a good com?b.Does Tyronne Taylor start the season as the Met's starting center fielder?c.After finishing with 33 home runs and 29 stolen bases and runner up to Shohei Ohtani for NL MVP, why is Francisco Lindor going off the board as the 17th overall pick? Shouldn't he be higher or does this feel about right?d.Kodai Senga – 2025 stat line - IP, Ks and ERAe.Give me a sleeper in the organization (minor or majors)
