Kumail's projects are all about how we feel our way through living, including his new Hulu stand-up special, “Night Thoughts.” Kumail talks to Rachel about learning to embrace fear and failure, his creative partnership with his wife, Emily, and why the world would improve if everyone could eat his grandmother's biryani. To listen sponsor-free and support the show, sign up for Wild Card+ at plus.npr.org/wildcardLearn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy

    1. Week 15 Takeaways-DKrom: The AFC truly is wide open this year -Hal: Patrick Mahomes and Micah Parsons' ACL injuries changed the trajectory for the 2025 season...and maybe the 2026 season as well2. Week 15 Honors-GOAT of the Week (DKrom: Trevor Lawrence/Bo Nix, Hal: Chargers OL)-Dunce of the Week (DKrom: Lathan Ransom, Hal: Shane Steichen)3. On Monday night in Pittsburgh, the Dolphins were officially eliminated from playoff contention due in large part to another atrocious performance by Tua Tagovailoa. Today, Miami benched Tua and rookie Quinn Ewers is slated to start the final three games. Is this the end of Tua Time in South Florida? It's possible, but very complicated from a financial perspective. Keep in mind, Tua already has $54M of his 2026 salary guaranteed and $3M of his 2027 salary fully vests on March 15. Releasing Tua Tagovailoa in 2026 would result in a gargantuan $99M dead money charge. And a post-June 1 release would result in $67.4M in dead money in 2026, and another $31.8 million in 2027. Many are going to naturally point to the Broncos swallowing $85M in dead money over these last two years by releasing Russell Wilson, but Dolphins ownership doesn't nearly have half the cash Denver's ownership does. So my question to you Hal is this: If you are the Dolphins next GM, would you be willing to release Tua Tagovailoa before March 15 and eat $99M over the next two seasons?4. Panic Meter -Packers Super Bowl chances without Micah Parsons-Baker Mayfield-Seahawks offensive struggles -Rams offense minus Davante Adams on a short week against the Seahawks on the road-Patrick Mahomes not being 100% for the entirety of 2026-Bengals fans on the chances Joe Burrow wants out of Cincinnati -Patriots run defense-Broncos defense 5. Truth or Exaggeration-If the Seahawks beat the Rams on Thursday, the 49ers will be the NFC's eventual #1 seed-The Steelers will be one-and-done in the playoffs again regardless of who they end up hosting in the Wild Card round-Should the Bucs not make the playoffs, Todd Bowles will be fired as head coach -Unless the Jets can trade up into the top 2 to take Fernando Mendoza or Dante Moore, Kyler Murray will be their starting QB in 2026 -The Bears should trade WR D.J. Moore and release TE Cole Kmet and use the cap savings from both moves to sign Trey Hendrickson in free agency-The Chiefs will re-hire Eric Bieniemy as OC and he will bring along with him the run game scheme the Bears have run this season -Raheem Morris will get a third season as Falcons head coach-If the road to Super Bowl LX in the AFC does not run through Denver, and IF the Patriots lose to the Ravens on Sunday night, the road to Super Bowl LX in the AFC will go through…Jacksonville 6. Week 16 Game Picks-Lock of the Week (DKrom: Texans over Raiders, Hal: Bills over Browns)-Upset Special (DKrom: Titans over Chiefs, Hal: Giants over Vikings)-Rams at Seahawks-Eagles at Commanders-Packers at Bears-Jets at Saints-Chargers at Cowboys-Bucs at Panthers -Bengals at Dolphins-Jaguars at Broncos-Falcons at Cardinals-Steelers at Lions-Patriots at Ravens-49ers at Colts7. Week 16 Bold Predictions-DKrom: Broncos are up 24-20 at the two minute warning and have 4th-and-1 at the 39 of the Jaguars. Broncos go for it and the Jags stuff them for no gain. Trevor Lawrence then leads the Jaguars on a 61 yard, 1:42 drive culminating in the game-winning TD pass on 3rd-and-Goal from the 8...to former Bronco Tim Patrick! -Hal: Ravens, Jaguars, and Bucs will all win their divisions despite losing in Week 16...and the Giants will still end up the #1 overall pick in the 2026 draft despite winning in Week 168. Challenge Flags-DKrom: Sam Darnold...just take care of the football and stay ahead of the sticks against the Rams!-Hal: Shane Steichen...BENCH PHILIP RIVERS!!!

December 17, 2025 - Season 16, Episode 65 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into talking about the latest news concerning the Pittsburgh Steelers. We discuss the recent transactions made by the Steelers in addition to the team bringing in quite a few players for visits on Tuesday and the likely reasons for that. Former Steelers WR Ke'Shawn Williams was claimed off waivers by the Cincinnati Bengals on Tuesday, so we make sure to hit on that little nugget of news as well. Either the Steelers or the Baltimore Ravens will win the AFC North division this year and on top of that, neither team is likely to make the playoffs as a Wild Card team. Because of all that, and based on what may or may not happen in Week 16, Alex and I wonder if there could be a situation where either the Steelers or the Ravens, or even both teams, wind up resting players in Week 17 in preparation for a winner-take-all game against each other in Week 18. After poor and inconclusive discussion about potential scenarios in Week 17, Alex and I began our weekly recap of the all-22 tape of the Steelers' last game, the Monday night win against the Miami Dolphins. We start on the offensive side of the football for the Steelers and spend a lot of time discussing the play of T Dylan Cook against the Dolphins. We go over the other good, bad and ugly related to the Monday night offensive all-22 tape. After thoroughly discussing the offensive tape from Week 15, Alex and I then do the same when it comes to the defensive side of the football. We discuss the Steelers defense shutting down the Dolphins' running game on Monday night and how the unit went about limiting the Miami passing game for most of the game as well. Are the Steelers currently a team that could make some noise in the playoffs this year, assuming they indeed do wind up making the postseason tournament? Alex and address that question after we are finished discussing the Monday win against the Dolphins. This 87-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted and we wrap things up by answering several emails we received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. It just depends who you're talking to! He's been one of the voices of Channel 4 in the UK since 2005, spending nearly twenty years crafting the art of saying “Countdown is next” in increasingly creative ways! He was one of the launch voices of More4, 4Seven and 4Music, spent a decade as the station voice of BBC 6Music and was the station promo voice of Manchester United TV for an awful long time, which is quite an achievement when he knows precisely boff-all about football. He's been the literal voice of the earth at the Science Museum and drove around the world's capital cities for a Smart Car web series. He's also been a vocal advocate for fair pay in the creative industries and has spent more than two decades making British broadcasting just a little bit warmer, a little bit funnier, and occasionally a lot more chaotic. Mike and Jesse are back and are joined by attorney Paul Lesko who dissects the Panini-Fanatics antitrust lawsuit, revealing a major conflict: Panini is risking its own court credibility by showing potential buyers documents that claim their unlicensed products can outperform licensed ones, directly contradicting their courtroom defense. He also touches on the related Wild Card lawsuit, where Panini is accused of threatening distributors who worked with Wild Card. Separately, the Nikola Jokic card market is poised for growth as the star is officially signing with Topps. Plus, the guys debate which NFL quarterbacks to buy now and flip before the Super Bowl. Mike argues for Matthew Stafford, who is quietly building an unbelievable Hall of Fame resume, ranking top-10 all-time in major passing stats and is currently a top MVP candidate alongside Drake Maye. The ultimate market wild card is 44-year-old Philip Rivers who is joining the Colts' practice squad and could end up starting for them this season. In the baseball world, it's free agency time and Mike vents about the Red Sox refusing to sign big free agents, like Pete Alonso, despite the team's need for a power bat. Are young Orioles stars like Adley Rutschman and Gunner Henderson sneaky good value buys right now? How do imagination, poetry, and fantasy literature like of J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis help us deepen our faith in Christ?   Sarah sits down with esteemed poet Malcolm Guite in this special Wild Card episode (recorded on location at the Getty Sing! Conference) for a conversation full of delightful storytelling, brilliant insight into the Christian faith, and encouragement to lean into the imagination God has given each of us.   “What they [Tolkien and Lewis] meant was that the human mind and the depth of the imagination, especially the imagination, knows more than we do. There's a deeper wisdom. And that story knows more than we do, that a great story, a story which is working at the level of myth. Mythopoeic is actually older and wiser than we are, and even the author writing the story doesn't know everything that's in it. And a really great story is continuously suggesting more.”  Malcolm Guite is a poet, musician, Anglican priest, and literary scholar who has taught at universities including Cambridge, Duke, and Regent. He's penned five volumes of poetry, several books on Christian faith and theology, and a highly acclaimed biography of Samuel Taylor Coleridge entitled Mariner. He has lectured widely on the fantasy writings of J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis and is currently undertaking his own epic retelling of the legends of King Arthur.  Find his writing wherever books are sold and view his YouTube channel at youtube.com/@MalcolmGuitespell.  Connect with the Lutheran Ladies on social media in The Lutheran Ladies' Lounge Facebook discussion group (facebook.com/groups/LutheranLadiesLounge) and on Instagram @lutheranladieslounge. Suj and James discuss another eventful weekend in the Premier League, where there was largely success for Free Hitters (including Suj) but disappointment for Erling Haaland Triple Captainers, and James' Wildcard also went okay. But what's perhaps more important is what's next and a big theme around Suj and James' discussion is who might get rotated during a midweek where the spacing of games is particularly bad for Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool. The two London sides drew in Sunday's big game whilst Liverpool finally won and kept a clean sheet with Alexadner Isak on the scoresheet, but Mo Salah was an unused substitute. A rest presumably...? There's reflection on the Villa, Brentford and Manchester City assets that largely delivered well for Free Hitters, Newcastle won away with Malick Thiaw - 3rd on James' bench - scoring twice, and Newcastle assets now greatly appeal, as might Manchester United assets after their victory at Crystal Palace. But it was another miserable home day for James' Tottenham. We talk about how a loss to the bills could potentially limit the Steelers' Wild Card spot chances down to one spot, assuming they don't ultimately win the AFC North division. Alex and I move forward in this show by looking at the Steelers' Thursday injury report, and specifically what the current outlook is for QB Aaron Rodgers, CB Joey Porter Jr., and WR Ben Skowronek when it comes to Sunday's game. We discuss the likelihood of OL Andrus Peat being the starting left tackle on Sunday with T Broderick Jones sidelined for this Week 13 contest. The Bills are dealing with several key injuries this week as well and so Alex and I recap what their Thursday report looked like and how it seems Buffalo is likely to be without their two starting tackles on Sunday. We also talk about the Bills recently signing veteran WR Bradin Cooks and the role he might have against the Steelers at Acrisure Stadium. On Thursday, we once again heard from two of the Steelers' coordinators, Arthur Smith and Teryl Austin, so Alex and I recap the main talking points to come out of those media sessions. We talk about what Smith had to say about hunting for more explosive plays on offense and what Austin had to say about some of the woes the team's defense has had. We welcome Matt Parrino of Syracuse.com back to the show on Friday, and he helps us preview the Steelers-Bills game. Parrino has covered the Bills for many seasons, and he certainly knows that team inside and out. We get his thoughts on several things related to the Sunday afternoon game in Pittsburgh and that includes his analysis of QB Josh Allen, OC Joe Brady, and the several injuries that Buffalo is dealing with this week. Parrino gives us his outlook for the 2025 Bills moving forward this season and while he doesn't give a final score prediction on Friday morning, he gives his early thoughts on how he sees the Sunday game in Pittsburgh going and which team he's leaning toward picking as the winner. If not already doing so, make sure to follow Matt on X/Twitter at @mattparrino and make sure to read his work here: https://www.syracuse.com/staff/mparrino/. After finishing with Parrino, Alex and I provide our own preview of the Steelers-Bills game. We break down what we are looking for out of each team on both sides of the football Sunday afternoon. Alex and I then give our picks against the spread for the remainder of the Week 13 NFL games provided by show sponsor MyBookie.ag. We also give our final score predictions for the Steelers-Bills game. This 129-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted above and we end this episode by answering several emails we received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices.
