In this special bonus episode, I'm sharing how we survived 64 hours in the car with two kids with very little tech (and stayed pretty healthy along the way). Brooklyn Nets fanalyst, Keith McPherson, is Talkin' Nets basketball. This is an episode of truth. The truth hasn't been fully told here but it will be. The Nets have been struggling for two weeks. James Harden is OUT with a knee injury tonight. Hudson Flynn is OUT on Talkin' Nets forever. He's not coming back. Keith is OUT of WFAN this week. Fell into the covid health and safety protocols but he's fine. Just have to give it some time. Here we are with a Nets team that under performs even when they win. We were riding high around Christmas. We've come back to Earth since. Kyrie is back for these next two games. We have the leagues best record on the road. We need to win and get right before two winnable games at home against OKC and NO this week. We talk updates, news, take a quick look at the last three games and look ahead. Its a frustrating time but the road to victory comes with bumps in it. For the Nets and Talkin' Nets. One thing is for sure: both will improve this year! Our world, Nets World! The Portland Trail Blazers dispatched the Sacramento Kings, 103-98, on Sunday night at the Moda Center in a game without Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum or Norman Powell. Anfernee Simons had 31 points, Jusuf Nurkic came up one assist shy of a triple-double and the Kings did their part by being pathetic. It was a nice win for a team that hasn't had many of them in a while, but news broke before tip off that suggests the shorthanded Blazers might be shorthanded for a while longer and perhaps even the remainder of the season. Chauncey Billups said pregame that Lillard will not accompany the Blazers on an upcoming six-game road trip and instead will go see specialists to discuss his season-long abdominal issue. Lillard could opt for surgery or perhaps just shut it down for the remainder of the season as the Blazers head towards a lottery pick as they slip further from the playoff picture. If the Blazers are headed for an official tank job and away from the current unofficial tank job, how should fans watch a team that isn't trying to winning? Hint: It's all about Simons and Nassir Little. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

NETWORK SPONSORS https://sportshistorynetwork.com/row1/ (Row One) - the vintage shop for sports history fans! EPISODE SUMMARY In the early days of the National Football League, it was not uncommon for pro teams to take on non-league teams from anywhere or at any time. If a local club could offer a decent financial proposal, it could almost guarantee that the pros would show up for a bit of cash and hopefully an easy victory. And if that same pro team could string together one or more games in a particular geographic area, they might call it a tour and then take their chances against several local clubs without the benefit of scouting reports or specific game-related information....... Author Joe Ziemba will share a forgotten or lost story from one of the NFL's two oldest teams: The Bears and the Cardinals. Team championships, individual exploits, or long-buried items of interest from the earliest years of the NFL will be dusted off and resurrected for the listener. Not for the football faint-of-heart since these programs will document when the struggling Bears nearly went out of business or when Cardinals' players earned $15 a game and were proud of it! When Roger Ebert gave Tom Green's unhinged feature debut "Freddy Got Fingered" a rare zero star review, he famously said "This movie doesn't scrape the bottom of the barrel. This movie isn't the bottom of the barrel. This movie isn't below the bottom of the barrel. This movie doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence with barrels." He added "The day may come when "Freddy Got Fingered" is seen as a milestone of neo-surrealism. The day may never come when it is seen as funny." Well, it's been 20 years since Tom Green jacked off a horse on Fox's dime and it's been re-evaluated as a singular piece of surrealist comedy that helped pave the way for comedians like Eric Andre, Conner O'Malley and Nathan Fielder. We couldn't think of a better film or comedic persona to close out our Rotten Comedy in the 2000s miniseries than Green and his notorious bomb turned cult artifact. We're joined by returning guest and self-proclaimed "Freddy" stan Olivia Willke to dissect the insanity that is "Freddy Got Fingered," as well as one of Green's first forays onto the big screen: Todd Phillips' studio debut "Road Trip." Listener's Note: we had a bit of a connection issue with this week's recording so please excuse the occasional weird sound dropout. We'll also be taking the next month off, so we'll see you all in February! "Road Trip" is streaming on PlutoTV and "Freddy Got Fingered" is streaming on STARZ.

Tom has a true-or-false quiz on the Dodge Challenger and the state of Wisconsin for Damon and Jill, and Damon runs down the latest articles on the Consumer Guide Daily Drive blog--including a look back at the 1992-96 Buick Regal GS Sport Coupe.

I'm excited to introduce this week's guest, Emma Carmichael. I first met Emma in the London Indie Authors Meetup Group (https://www.meetup.com/London-Indie-Authors/), where I found out about her adventures, particularly the one we discuss today. In 2009, Emma quit her job and bought a classic Serbian car, which she drove in a huge circle around the Balkans. This adventure is unlike anything else we've discussed on this show. It's also unlike any trip I've ever been on. I hope Emma's journey inspires you to come up with your own wild adventures. About Emma Carmichael Born in Edinburgh. In the fall of 1789, George Washington, only six months into his presidency, set out on the first of four road trips as he attempted to unite what were in essence thirteen independent states into a single nation. In the fall of 2018, Nat Philbrick, his wife Melissa, and their dog Dora set out to retrace Washington's route across the country. By following Washington as he attempted to bring the country together, traveling as far north as Kittery Point, Maine, and as far south as Savannah, Georgia, Philbrick hoped to gain some historical perspective on our own politically divided times.Washington accomplished an extraordinary amount to bring this unruly collection of states together in support of the creation of a federal government, of a tax plan, of a Federal City – what would become Washington, DC. Without this road trip, America may never have made it, and today's leaders could stand to learn from George's methods.
