De kern van wetenschap: vertrouwen in het kritisch omgaan met kennisOp veel plekken staat de waardering van wetenschappelijke kennis onder druk. In Nederland doen wetenschappers het in elk geval nog beter dan journalisten en politici. Het vertrouwen in de wetenschap is de laatste tijd zelfs iets gestegen. Maar er is wel een tweedeling. In 2025 heeft een derde van het publiek een groot vertrouwen, 15 procent geeft de wetenschap een onvoldoende. Slechts 20 % van het publiek vertrouwt de manier waarop journalisten wetenschap weergeven. En wat politici van wetenschap bakken vertrouwt nog geen 10%. Dat krijg je, als politici selectief winkelen in wetenschappelijke resultaten, niet om kunnen gaan met onzekerheid, of nog erger, eigenlijk helemaal niet snappen hoe wetenschap werkt.Wetenschap bestaat uit het stellen van vragen en bedenken hoe je die vraag kan beantwoorden. Daarvoor doe je onderzoek, waarbij je uitkomsten accepteert, ook als die tot een onverwacht of niet eenduidig antwoord komen. Bij dat alles stel je je open voor kritiek. De socioloog Robert Merton heeft een aantal principes voorgesteld waaraan goede wetenschappelijke resultaten zouden moeten voldoen. (1) Het gaat om openbare en gedeelde kennis; (2) De kennis is universeel en verkregen onafhankelijk van de persoonlijke achtergrond van de onderzoeker; (3) de kennis moet belangeloos zijn, niet afhangen van eigen- of groepsbelang.(4) Onderzoekaanpak en resultaten moeten opengesteld zijn aan toetsing en kritiek van andere wetenschappers. Daaraan zijn later nog eisen van originaliteit en oprechtheid toegevoegd. National League Division Series Recap Games Three, Four and FiveThe Los Angeles Dodgers and the Milwaukee Brewers will meet once again in the National League Championship Series. The Dodgers took care of the Phillies in four games, though their margin of victory in their three wins was just four runs. The Philadelphia pitchers, notably Christopher Sánchez, Ranger Suarez, and Jesús Luzardo, performed admirably against the potent LA lineup. It was the vaunted offense that let the Phillies down, as Bryce Harper, Trea Turner, and Kyle Schwarber struggled mightily outside of game three in this series. Although the Dodgers will be the lower seed in the NLCS, they appear primed to not only defend their NL pennant, but perhaps become the first repeat World Series champions since the 2000 Yankees.The Brewers dominated the Cubs in the first two games in Milwaukee, but the script was flipped once the series moved to Chicago. The Cubbies continued their first strike offense with early homers from Michael Busch and Ian Happ, and the bullpen held on to send this series to a decisive fifth game. SFIHHDF Founder Micaya and Board member Brandy Beazley talk to esteemed dance artists from around the world. Topics include performances in the SFIHHDF, choreography, artistry, challenges of being a dance professional, and other dance related themes. Justin de Jager and Sem Deliveyne started out as breakers and found each other in a shared love for the movement concept of Threading. Since 2019, they have been exchanging, training, researching, creating and performing together. The collaboration resulted in the creation ‘Brothers' and that premiered in The Hague, NL in ‘23. Since then, the piece has already performed over 50 times at many prestigious festivals in The Netherlands and Europe, recently winning two awards at the respected choreography competitions RIDCC and Hannover 39.
