At the heart of Dylan Martinez's work lies the striking H2O/SiO2 series, inspired by the artistic tradition of Trompe L'œil—the technique that deceives the eye into perceiving three-dimensional objects on a flat surface. Each sculpture is meticulously hot-sculpted and hand-molded by Martinez, capturing the fluid movement of rising bubbles and the delicate form of what appears, at first glance, to be bags of water. These pieces transcend objecthood; they are immersive experiences that invite stillness, inspection, and recalibration of the senses. Martinez reflects, “Our vision has the greatest effect on our understanding of the world. Through my artwork, I create scenarios where viewers must question their ability to navigate between reality and illusion.” Blending classical craftsmanship with contemporary conceptual inquiry, Martinez uses glass as both material and metaphor. His work explores how perception constructs truth—how desire and expectation often override what is actually seen. In his latest series, Martinez introduces vibrant color for the first time in years, signaling a shift influenced by pop art. Sculpted forms inspired by Pac-Man ghosts and hyperrealistic water balloons appear light, buoyant, and playful, yet reveal an intense precision beneath their surface charm. Also central to this new body of work is a group of hard-edged, geometric sculptures rooted in optical art. These pieces employ sharp lines, layered transparency, and refraction to produce illusions of shifting depth, bending geometry, and visual vibration. As viewers move around them, the forms seem to flicker, realign, or dissolve—forcing perception into motion. These optical works expand Martinez's inquiry into the unstable boundary between what is there and what is seen. Born in Stillwater, Minnesota, Martinez earned his degree in science from the University of Wisconsin–River Falls in 2008. It was during his junior year, upon visiting the university's glassblowing studio, that he discovered a profound connection to glass—drawn to how the material responded to physical forces he had studied in physics, chemistry, and geology. He recalls, “I tried it out, and it really resonated with me—in the way you move the material and how it reacts to heat and physical forces.” He later earned his MFA from Ball State University in 2017. Martinez honed his craft through an apprenticeship with Sam Stang at Augusta Glass Studio (2010–2012), evolving from functional glassware and vases into sculptural and installation-based work. He currently lives and works in his studio in Bingen, Washington. Martinez's work has earned global acclaim, appearing in public and private collections worldwide. International publications such as Elle Decoration (UK, NL, Germany), American Craft Magazine, Interior Design Magazine, and Aesthetica have celebrated his contributions to contemporary glass. His accolades include the Enrico Bersellini Award (Miano Vetro, Milan, 2018), the Stanislav Libensky Award (Prague, 2017), full scholarships to Pilchuck Glass School and Pittsburgh Glass Center (2017), and numerous Best in Show and Juror Awards. In 2021, he received Best in Show, OP ART/Glass, from the Imagine Museum in St. Petersburg, FL. In 2025, Martinez's work will be featured in More Than Meets the Eye at Belger Arts, Kansas City, MO (June 6 – September 6), as well as in a solo exhibition titled, Glass Reimagined, at Square One Gallery, St. Louis, MO (June 6 – August 1). Through a fusion of light, form, and material truth, Martinez's sculptures prompt a quiet confrontation with the limits of perception. As he states of his waterbag series, “The trapped movement of rising bubbles and the gesture of the forms convince the eye that the sculptures are exactly as they appear. What fascinates me is how our desires often override our true perception, leading us to believe what we see as the absolute truth.”

The Philadelphia Phillies are currently atop of the NL East. However, we're asking the question on this podcast and during our interview: who are the Phillies? While they're having a successful season thus far, the Phillies have had ups and downs here in 2025. To dive into this question, the guys brought on friend of the pod Liz Roscher from the Hittin' Season podcast and the Society of American Baseball Research (SABR) for a great discussion to dissect what we've seen from the bats and arms this year. It was a great discussion! But first, the guys dove into some Philly sports history from this week. (Approx. 5:50)From there, the guys gave their thoughts on how the NFL owners decided not to ban The Tush Push, the famous play that has annoyed many NFL team. They also talked about how flag football will be coming to the 2028 Olympics. (Approx. 9:15)Then the guys discussed the NBA's Eastern and Western Conference Finals, the matchups and who they believe will head to the NBA Finals. Plus, might the Sixers be able to contend next year given their draft spot at No. 3 overall in the NBA Draft? Approx. 16:55)The guys then discussed how the Phillies are looking as they are first in the NL East. And yes, there are some fans who still are having issues with this team for some reason. (Approx. 40:55)What they threw down on the Table this week was a fantastic and in-depth discussion with Liz Roscher from the Hittin' Season podcast and SABR about the Phillies this season. The theme of the discussion was: who are the Phillies this season? What should we make of the bullpen and starting pitching here in May? Are the star veteran players doing what they need to do to help this team's identity? All of this and much more this week on the Table! Tek & Prem dive into the Eagles 2025 NFL Schedule and take a look at the matchups and anomalies of it. The Birds are clearly an elite unit poised to push hard for a Super Bowl repeat, but they will have to do it through a gauntlet of a schedule this season. They play 10 games against 2024 Playoff teams and do not have one back-to-back at home. While there are no international games to travel for, thankfully, there are a slew of games on days other than Sunday and very challenging teams successively, at multiple points. So goes the nature of the NFL. Their leaders will carry them. The Phillies are back in action tonight at the Bank, coming off their first home series loss since last July. The rotation is elite and the bullpen is coming into form, but Bryce Harper is still yet to find his stroke at the dish. The supporting cast has helped lead them to a .581 win percentage thus far, 4th in the NL. The Pirates come in this weekend for 3 games, and although they are not a good team, they are a pesky squad with a knack for close contests. The Flyers have a new head coach, former Flyer Rick Tocchet, received with mixed reviews, and the Sixers will pick 3rd in the upcoming NBA Draft. Skenes has been pitching great, but we expect him to be elite and he isn't the same guy as last year. Skenes is averaging less than a strikeout per inning and isn't consistently throwing 100 mph. He still ranks 7th in the NL in ERA. We hear from Pirates fans who are more concerned with the state of the franchise.

Allen Hall: There's more news out of Oklahoma. The state of Oklahoma has. Entered the legal ballot between the wind developer in EL and the Osage nation. It, we all recall on the podcast probably a year ago where the Osage Nation had won a lawsuit with the help of the federal government to take down a big wind farm in north central Oklahoma. The state of Oklahoma has filed an amicus brief opposing the immediate removal of the 84 turbines in Osage County. Now, this is a big deal [00:01:00] because pretty much the last I saw, which is a while ago, the order was that they needed to take down all the turbines and reclaim the land, basically put it back to where it was before the turbines were placed in it. Now the state of Oklahoma is stepping into the mix and they're citing a couple of things. They're saying that the state of Oklahoma has an interest in property laws and protecting tax revenue. However, Osage doesn't fit into Oklahoma laws. It's not their territory. And meanwhile, the Osage tribe is saying, Hey, this is over and we have mineral rights, and these turbines need to come down. So this is a kind of a weird spot because Anelle's in the middle of this, now that the state's gotten involved against the federal government, is there a missing link here? Is, this is certain more to this story because it does seem like some wheels are turning at the moment. I think, Joel Saxum: Phil Allen.[00:02:00] You guys are very smart, right? But I think we need someone smarter than us to decode this whole thing as far as like maybe a lawyer that can get in there, because Alan, you hit it on the head, Osage tribe and Osage tribe lands do not actually fall under Oklahoma law. They have their own sets of laws, so you have a federal ruling saying that something must happen within, of course, the outlines of the state of Oklahoma, but within the greater outlines of the United States. But now the state wants to be able to go against the federal ruling to have their own rights recounted for while this, the Oage tribe is saying no, like we've already passed and I think the total bill that NL is gonna was supposed to get stamped, it was like $300 million, which is crazy 'cause it doesn't cost $300 million to remediate 84 turbines. However. This isn't necessarily a wind turbine take down exercise. This is a mining reclamation exercise after you take the wind turbines down. That's why it costs so much. [00:03:00] So there's a lot of money on the table for nl and now you have the Oklahoma Solicitor General Jerry Gary Gaskins stepping in and saying Hey, we're also getting some kind of tax revenues to the state and things like that from the wind farm. But I wouldn't think that would go to the state in this case. I would think it would go to the Osage tribe. So I don't understand the state's. The state's position in this. Phil Totaro: But Phil, do you have any insights on that? Unfortunately, I do not. But what's interesting about it is that you had,
Former MLB Pitcher Josh Towers and Scott Seidenberg talk about players receiving threats, the Rockies ineptitude and other betting stories around Major League Baseball. In this episode of "The Inside Pitch" recorded on May 12, Scott Seidenberg and Josh Towers discuss the controversy surrounding Lance McCullers Jr., his disastrous return, and the broader implications of gambling culture in MLB. McCullers, in his second start after a two-year injury hiatus, surrendered seven runs in a 10-run first inning against the Reds, registering just one out, giving up three hits, three walks, and one home run. Post-game, McCullers and his family received death threats, which Towers attributed to the toxic intersection of sports betting and fan entitlement. Towers emphasized that no athlete intentionally underperforms and that threatening players over wagers is unacceptable. Seidenberg concurred, adding that the accessibility of players via social media exacerbates the issue. McCullers expressed frustration, noting he only wants to perform for the Astros while ensuring his family's safety. Shifting focus to live betting strategies, Seidenberg recounted betting the Astros team total over 3.5 runs during the blowout, leveraging the assumption that weak bullpen arms would enter early. Towers supported this approach, explaining that such scenarios often lead to high-scoring games due to less effective relievers being used and pitchers potentially experimenting with pitches under low-pressure conditions. They dissected Brady Singer's outing, noting he stuck to his sinker-slider mix, throwing 30 sinkers, 15 sliders, and four cutters, struggling post the 45-minute delay. The discussion broadened to emphasize that blowouts offer learning opportunities for pitchers, enabling them to test pitches in-game situations they'd avoid in tighter contests. Attention turned to the Rockies' collapse, particularly their 21-0 loss to the Padres, followed by Bud Black's firing. Towers criticized the Rockies' misuse of pitchers, particularly exposing young arms like Blaylock to overwhelming situations, likely contributing to organizational dysfunction. Betting-wise, the Rockies were highlighted as historically profitable to fade, with 30 of their 33 losses by multiple runs and a 5-29 record in first-five innings. Seidenberg recommended automatic daily run line fades against the Rockies. Broader betting trends were analyzed, including the Mets' 29-12 first-five innings under record and the Royals' similar 30-12 mark. The Mariners surprisingly leaned to the over. The conversation shifted to player performance futures. Kyle Schwarber's 46-game on-base streak, 14 home runs, and .404 OBP were celebrated, with Seidenberg suggesting profitable betting strategies targeting Schwarber to reach base safely in his first plate appearance using various app markets. Josh Towers and Seidenberg also agreed that Freddie Freeman's .367 average and league-best OPS made him undervalued at +1100 for the NL MVP, criticizing how consistently elite players are often overlooked in futures markets. In Cy Young discussions, Wheeler was favored in the NL at +700 due to his 58 innings, 2.95 ERA, and 0.91 WHIP, while Skubal and Eovaldi were highlighted in the AL. Hunter Brown was noted as a legitimate contender, given his cleaned-up mechanics and plus stuff. The Rookie of the Year race saw Jacob Wilson as AL favorite, while Luis Angel Acuna led the NL despite modest power numbers, with Towers skeptical of his long-term viability. They concluded by discussing rookie dark horses and emphasized the difficulty pitchers face sustaining excellence across a full season, all while promoting Pregame.com's latest offers. The St. Louis Cardinals take 2 of 3 from the New York Mets, one of the best teams in the NL, including a doubleheader sweep. Michael McGreevy was excellent in Game 2, should he stay up with the Major League roster? Victor Scott II continues to amaze, while Jordan Walker and Nolan Gorman's struggles continue. How can the Cardinals level up their roster as they hope to contend in 2026 and beyond?
The Nats snapped their three game skid with a 4-2 victory on Thursday night at the Phillies. Mark (From Philadelphia) & Al open with the eventful top of the 6th where Washington scored all of their runs. Luis Garcia Jr. not only had a RBI single, but also stole home on a double steal for the final insurance run.(08:10) Keibert Ruiz knocked in Nathaniel Lowe on what was ruled a three base error by Bryce Harper, but should it have been scored as a triple?(12:45) Brad Lord lasted five innings and recorded his first Big League "W". The timing is rather interesting as his rotation spot is at stake if Michael Soroka returns from the IL in the near future.(18:45) The bullpen came through for Lord as three relievers combined for four scoreless frames. Jose A. Ferrer tossed two innings, Jorge Lopez pitched the 8th, and Kyle Finnegan bounced back with his 10th save of the season, the 2nd most in the NL.(25:00) The Nationals made their first bullpen transaction post Opening Day as they signed veteran Andrew Chafin and DFA'd Colin Poche. Chafin has been in the majors since 2014 and has a career ERA of 3.42. The lefty pitched well for AAA-Toledo last month before signing a major league deal with the Nats.(30:00) The road trip moves this weekend to Cincinnati for a three game set. Mitchell Parker will start the opener on Friday night vs. Hunter Greene. The Reds are 17-15 overall and are in 2nd place in their division.

The Nats topped the Orioles 4-3 on Wednesday night for their fourth win in the past five games. Mark & Al leadoff with James Wood, who immediately hit his 8th homer of the season, tying him for the NL lead. It was the hardest hit homer by a National in Navy Yard in the Statecast Era (2015-present).(07:20) CJ Abrams played all nine innings on Wednesday in his second rehab start in Harrisburg. There is a chance that he will return to Washington's lineup in Thursday's series finale. Hear what Davey Martinez's reply was to Mark's question about which lefty bat will be in the leadoff spot when Abrams is back.(11:15) Josh Bell also homered in the 1st inning, his 4th of the year. Bell is still struggling at the plate as his OPS sits at a disappointing .577.(15:00) Trevor Williams only gave up one run in five innings of work. Williams has made five starts thus far and after a slow start, he has thrown back to back solid outings.(19:45) Four relievers combined to take over after Williams departed. They inherited a 3-1 lead and the O's tied up it in the top of the 8th before Luis Garcia Jr.s go ahead sacrifice fly. Kyle Finnegan then completed the save, he is nine for nine this year and leads the NL.(26:30) Andrew McCutchen recently tweeted that he knows Jorge Lopez was not intentionally throwing at him last week in Pittsburgh. So why were Davey and Lopez each suspended?
A new era of hockey is on the horizon for the Philadelphia Flyers. With major questions about where the goalie situation goes from here long-term, this team is fortunate to have players like Matvei Michkov and Travis Konecny to build around. This week, Ryan Gilbert from BroadStreetHockey.com and the Broad Street Hockey Podcast joined us for a great discussion about where this upcoming offseason may go. How will GM Danny Briere handle free agency and the upcoming NHL Draft? But first on this abbreviated podcast episode, Jeff dove into the struggles we've been witnessing from the Phillies as this team's record is just over .500. While they're not a terrible team by any stretch, they have no identity and are constantly struggling on the mound and in the batter's box.On the Table this week was a fantastic and in-depth discussion with Ryan Gilbert from Broad Street Hockey about how this Flyers team needs to have a good offseason with free agency and the NHL Draft. Where does the goalie situation of from here? Briere said that adding to the team didn't necessarily mean bringing in outside talent and acquisitions, but the promotion of players in the farm system. What free agent talent could be acquired? And what should the Flyers do with their first pick in the NHL Draft? All of this and much more this week on the Table! The Nats emerged victorious on Saturday in Colorado, but a 12-2 lead turned into a 12-11 escape act. Mark (From Coors Field) & Al run through the dizzying afternoon that saw four Washington homers, a dominant outing by MacKenzie Gore, and the bullpen allowing eight Rockies runs in the bottom of the 7th.(05:30) Dylan Crews had his best game yet in the majors as he went deep twice and snagged a great catch in the bottom of the 8th. Crews knocked in four runs, which is thus far a career high.(07:35) James Wood slugged his 7th homer of the season out of the leadoff spot. Wood is currently tied for the NL lead in homers with four others players including Kyle Schwarber. Wood was lifted in the middle of the game for Alex Call for defensive reasons and Al vehemently explains why he disagrees with this decision by the manager.(17:00) It got lost in the shuffle of the late game dramatics, but MacKenzie Gore was fantastic on Saturday afternoon. Gore tied a career high with 13 Ks on 104 pitches in six frames and now leads the majors with 45 strikeouts this year.(22:30) The bullpen inherited a 12-2 lead entering the bottom of the 7th and an inning later Colorado was now behind 12-10. Lucas Sims only recorded one out yet gave up four runs and his ERA this season is up to 15.26. It still is better than Colin Poche's 19.29, this after he surrendered a pair of runs while also only securing one out. What can be done to fix this?(37:10) Jorge Lopez's suspension was reduced from three to two games. He will be eligible for Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader.(40:00) INFORMAL NATS CHAT HANGOUT AT WALTERS ON WEDNESDAY APRIL 23RD AT 5PM UNTIL FIRST PITCH AGAINST THE ORIOLES.
