A simple yet powerful episode containing casual sharing of anecdotes of my coping strategies. Also, I share and discuss, how to handle unpleasant surprises that we all get daily in and around this era we are in.
In this talk session, Divye talks about how this new year didn't turn out happy as expected and also about the hopeless projection of our future. He discusses how there's a fine line between overthinking and worrying and tries to create a firm ground for the art of being carefree while being attentive towards your duty. In this episode, we have something to share, kind of our thought process and feelings on the social image of Failure. We've been rethinking and discussing this topic for quite some time now and thought that it was appropriate to bring this discussion to our episode. It is crucial to discuss how failure is a dogma in our society. Also, we try to eradicate the word failure from your dictionary and discuss why is it necessary for us to rethink our definitions and defy stereotypes. This episode tries to differentiate between what is appropriate and what is fallacious. Agastya and Divye are happy but they are not sure why they are happy. Therefore, we bring you a discussion on what actually is happiness. Is it just a science of hormones, or is it an elaborate emotion that facilitates our overall sense of being? This is the first part of this discussion where we are trying to figure that out. We would love you to join our discussion, and hope that you take away something substantial in the end. Let us tell you a secret, you can be happy whenever you want. Hello listeners! We are back with our 17th episode. This is another casual episode in which Divye expresses his views on cinema. He is critiquing the trite and prosaic movies that portray a highly jaded and falsified version of the world, and could not be further away from reality. He also elucidates the importance of cinema by explaining how some movies and shows have a life-changing impact on the viewers. It is implicit that there are as many bohemian movies as there are the meretricious ones. So, it is up to you. You have to decide what kind of content you consume. No matter how tempting the mainstream shitshows seem, try to value your time and intellect and treat yourself with something which makes you grow into a better self. :) --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/melioristicmisfits/message
We are somewhat in a line of work that involves influencing a mass audience. For a long time we have been trying to understand the nitty-gritty of this job and have gained some shrewd insight into the concept of “influencers”. So, we answer the question how much and in what ways do the modern day influencers impact the functioning of today's world. We also tell you the ways in which you can reclaim your power over your thoughts and support someone's crusade only if you sense it for the best of everyone. In this episode Divye talks about a lot of inane yet consequential stuff about influencing, and you'll love all the insight he offers. We'll love to hear your views on this! For a reallyy long time we wanted to talk about procrastination. This is such a perfunctory problem that almost everyday I feel that I might have failed to meet some deadlines. Numerous people procrastinate, and many are unable to function properly because of this habit. Many flounder in most stages of life because of procrastination. In the first part of this dicussion, we talk about why we procrastinate and state psychological details regarding procrastination. We hope you take away something informative and helpful from this episode. We recorded this episode a month ago. We were flustered by the futility of the incessant predicament of development. Nothing would ever be enough to human avarice. When was the last time you noticed how easy your life is because of the technology around you? There are people who, with each thought… whose each thought is channelized towards creating a more efficient technology. There are visionaries who have devoted their lives into developing something which would revolutionize the way our world functions. Ever wondered, if you ever asked for this revolution? Who did? You extol idealists who rampage resources; unflaggingly try to modify things around you. Ever wondered to what extent is that modification necessary? Is that even a modification or merely an impetuous decision inspired by greed? That is what we discuss in this episode. We rummage facts, extrapolate past events and try to speculate (question) to what extent our technical development will benefit us. We would love to hear your views on this! You can message us on our social media pages; we'd certainly get back to you. You can send us a voice message( though we know that recording your voice takes a lot of effort :p) We'd love to listen ;) --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/melioristicmisfits/message
This episode is less of a discussion and more of a QnA. In this episode Divye answers questions regarding trust and emotions. We had a lot of people asking us questions like how can we control our emotions? How much should we trust others? What is trust? We try to answer it by describing the various forms of dependence on other people which foster trust in us for them. We also describe apt ways to react to your emotions and feelings. Then, Divye answers various questions from the audience. This episode is a little aberrant from the usual ones, and we know that we are releasing it late (Divye had some errands to run and Agastya is extremely lazy.) So, we talk about anger. How anger impacts your psyche, and to what extent is it beneficial and /or harmful for you. We assert how anger is an emotion and not a behaviour, and why, at times, it is necessary for you to express your anger. We discuss the effective ways to demonstrate anger, and tell the reasons why repressing anger is bad for you. All these points are put forth through an easy going prattle which the hosts have with each other, during which, Divye explains what he feels when he is angry (the answer might shock you.) In the end we have our good old DA recommendations (we don't know why we are still keeping this segment.) So, yes, this is Episode 11 of the show. Hello fellow meliorists, here we are with the 10th episode of the show where we talk about how it all started and how has the journey of the show been so far. We tell how the first episode took the longest time to produce, and share some inside stories related to all the episodes. We also mention our individual favourite episodes, and the episodes which aren't as much favourites: p. We know that it is a tough time for everyone especially in India right now, and are trying to distract ourselves from the worst issues. We know that already a lot of the dismal stuff is happening around and don't want to talk about anything glum like our usual topics. Therefore, we have tried to keep this a short fun talk and have shared the journey of the show so far. Thank you so much for listening us so far. We will carry on with this little crusade of ours, and will stay hopeful. :) You can find us on Instagram and Facebook and you can also send us voice messages at anchor.fm/melioristicmisfits --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/melioristicmisfits/message
Overindulgence in the meretricious norms of socialising makes one irritable and delirious. In this episode, we are discussing about attention seeking. Divye tried explaining it... how to identify attention seeking behaviour. I've discussed it, because it was my observation and I've been consistently in contact with a few people like this. This is painful for both personalities themselves, and for the people in proximity to them. Since, we are not behavioural therapists we'll consider just a general discussion on this topic with our own experience. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/melioristicmisfits/message

This episode is more of a self talk consisting of questions that we usually ask ourselves. We talk about: romanticizing suffering, experimenting with nihilism, running into existential crisis and uncertainty. We don't know the most shrewd remedy to any of them. We are also as vulnerable as any other soul out there; we are also prone to suffering, and act cranky even after all the meta commentary we make about mindfulness. Even after knowing all of this, we're not radically immune to being emotionally overwhelmed. We still can't control all of our thoughts, and are still struggling to find an incessant repose. Even after all of this chaos and confusion, it is really soothing to talk, vent out and share something we all struggle with. In a nutshell, this episode is another sincere effort towards meliorism. :) --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/melioristicmisfits/message
We try to elucidate the subtle difference between conscious acceptance and illusive denial of your fears and emotions. This episode is a bit long as we have tried to keep it natural and unscripted(so, yes we are finally transitioning to the conventional podcasting paradigm). We start off with maintaining that the difference between the two is subtle, and tell how both of them share a nuance of apathy. We try to disabuse ourselves from the possibly conventional notion that denying any of your feelings is extremely insalubrious for your headspace, and elucidate what is meant by the stoical acceptance of your situations. Then, we explore this concept of 'headspace', and try to represent it as an incessant void. We also share the ways in which we try yo keep ourselves mindful and aware. We hope that you get something substantial from this episode. You can message us on our social pages. Should you avoid your feelings? Isn't it always healthy to face your revulsions to the core to get over them? Is being insecure always unadvisable? Can we escape all our insecurities? This episode is way disparate than the first one. This one is completely conversational and assertive, whereas the last episode was poignantly retrospective and profound. We assert pithy observations about mundane insecurities. From Agastya's tirades and Divye's candour, we try to figure out the neuroscientific salience of worries and apprehensions, and try to explain how insecurities are, at times, beneficial for you; and why are they not the real reason behind the mental discomfort that you address when you say, "I'm insecure". Approaching towards the end, we discuss why mindfulness is a salubrious way to get over nagging insecurities. And whether you should or shouldn't avoid deeply engaging in your thoughts. We'd be releasing a second episode on the same topic soon. Here we are with the episode 5! This one has a special salience. We have had the pleasure to host two of our friends from the preparation days. Both of them talk about their view point on JEE preparation. They maintain how much monotonous and hectic their usual schedule used to be and how it paid off finally. They also share that they were lucky enough to have some supportive friends, and acquaintances who helped them get through the myriad hurdles of preparation. We are extremely grateful to Utkarsh Soni and Swarn Shahi for being in the show and we hope that this episode gives you a trenchant perspective of the life of a routine JEE aspirant. It is neither too glum nor easy. It requires a lot of work and if you are able to do that work, you get the result. We are sorry if any of our views turn out be flawed with respect to someone's personal experiences. We have tried to explore an expansive view point of individuals, but it can certainly never be enough. In this episode, Divye shares his journey of preparation for the JEE exam. JEE is a national level entrance test that students give to get enrolled in engineering colleges in India. Divye talks about his routine during the preparation days, and describes how it impacted his psyche. He tells us about the existence of a "bigger picture" that he realised after getting his result. Then we discuss, about the concept of having goals, and speculate whether we really need to have an ultimate goal in life. We'd be making another episode on the JEE examination, in which we'd try to chiefly focus on the impact of this exam on students' psyche. This episode would certainly remain in our favorites. We have our friend joining us who talks about his fears and insecurities. He talks about his fear of humiliation, and shares how he got over it.. I've known Harsh Bagri for the past two years, and he is one of those guys, whom I could talk to even during my most sequestered phases. We met in eleventh grade, and both of us vibed with a plethora of shared interests. It was vastly serendipitous how both of us engaged in buffoonery and deluded acts, and regretted it in a manner that our regrets sort of dovetailed to strengthen our camaraderie. He is one of the best listeners I know. His outward behavior is imbued with empathy. Being able to record an episode with him, and giving him a set-up to openly talk about his dismal fears, has to be a delectable experience for me.
