Want more mental strength plays? Pick up a copy of The Mental Strength Playbook. Do you procrastinate more than you'd like to admit? You've probably told yourself the problem is willpower, motivation, or self-discipline. But, procrastination usually has nothing to do with those things. It has to do with trying to avoid an uncomfortable feeling. Fortunately, there's a simple mental strength play that can help you start taking action fast. And the best news is, in less than a minute you can get yourself working on that project. It's backed by science and it can help you get moving on those tasks you dread. Some of the things I talk about are: Why calling yourself "lazy" or "undisciplined" is the exact story that keeps you stuck—and what's really driving your procrastination. How dread quietly turns a small task into a huge source of dread. Why procrastination thrives in isolation. The "Text a Motivation Buddy" play—and how I used it to finally edit the section of my book I'd been avoiding for weeks. The three science-backed reasons a single text message can do what willpower can't. How to run the play in five steps, including the specific way to word your text so it actually works. The buddy you should never pick (the lovable friend who'll talk you into lunch instead). The simple "time swap" variation that gets you and a friend both unstuck at once. Welcome to Stop Procrastinating: Meditations for Overwhelm & Focus. If you are arriving here today feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or frustrated by a task you've been avoiding, take a deep breath and let the pressure go. There is no shame here. True mindfulness teaches us that procrastination isn't a lack of discipline; it's how our nervous system freezes when a task feels too heavy or the anxiety of perfectionism takes over. In this series, we aren't here to force or push our way into productivity. Instead, we are creating a quiet space to soften the stress, calm the inner critic, and gently untangle the mental blocks keeping you stuck. You don't need to feel perfectly ready to begin—you just need to find the stillness to take one single, intentional step. Right now, the pressure is entirely off. For the next few minutes, give yourself permission to just be here, exactly as you are. Take a deep, clearing breath in… and let it settle. Now is your time. A DAILY MESSAGE FOR YOUR HEART Take a soft, deep breath into the center of your chest right now. Your heart does not need you to have everything figured out today. It does not need you to be flawless, or perfectly productive, or completely certain of what comes next. All your heart asks of you today is that you meet yourself with kindness. If you notice your mind racing, or a feeling of heaviness setting in, simply put a hand over your chest and remind yourself: I am doing the best I can, and right here, in this moment, I am safe to slow down. Let the tension drop from your shoulders. Give yourself permission to breathe, to be human, and to trust the steady rhythm within you. You are exactly where you need to be. This is day 1 of a 7-day meditation series, "Stop Procrastinating: Meditations for Overwhelm and Focus" episodes 2720-2726. The truth is, almost everyone struggles with procrastination. It keeps us stuck in unhealthy patterns, convinces us to wait for the "perfect" time to take action, and gets in the way of what we truly want. Whether it's starting a business, improving your health, writing a book, or having a difficult conversation, procrastination often becomes a roadblock between who we are and who we want to become. Today, I'm joined by Jon Acuff. Jon is an 11-time NYT bestselling author, a top-100 INC keynote speaker, and has just released his newest book, Procrastination Proof. Jon has spent years studying mindset, perfectionism, and the habits that keep people from taking action to achieve their biggest goals. His ability to simplify complicated ideas into practical frameworks has helped millions of people create meaningful change in their personal and professional lives. In our conversation, Jon explains why procrastination isn't actually a character flaw or a sign of laziness, but a "solution" we use to avoid discomfort, fear, uncertainty, and criticism. We unpack the mindset patterns that keep people stuck, the hidden reasons why we procrastinate, and why so many people mistakenly believe they "work best under pressure." Jon also shares a 4-step framework that makes someone "procrastination proof," along with practical ways to overcome perfectionism and finally stop delaying the life you truly want. If you've ever felt stuck between your intentions and your actions, this episode will help you close that gap and start moving forward. Send us Fan MailProcrastination rarely looks like doing nothing. More often, it looks like a mortgage broker “staying productive” all day while the real work keeps slipping to next week. When swap rates jump, lenders pull deals, and clients need calm guidance fast, it's easy to tell ourselves we'll get back to marketing, systems, and long-term planning once things settle. But if we're not careful, firefighting turns into a pattern of avoidance that quietly stalls business growth. We unpack what procrastination actually is: not laziness, but discomfort. We dig into the common drivers for self-employed people such as fear of failure, perfectionism, low motivation after a heavy client day, and anxiety about making the wrong decision. Then we shine a light on “productive avoidance,” where researching the perfect CRM, polishing website copy, or tweaking brand colours feels responsible while you dodge the outreach, content, and follow-ups that genuinely move the needle. A simple question helps you spot it fast: is this task directly tied to revenue, client service, or long-term growth? From there, we get practical. You'll hear how to shrink the first step, set deadlines that matter, add accountability, and design your environment for focus. We also cover making progress visible, protecting energy with single-tasking, using CRM automation and delegation to remove admin friction, and reinforcing momentum by celebrating small wins. The thread running through it all is progress over perfection, because “done” creates feedback and traction, while “perfect” often creates delay. If it helps, subscribe, share the show with a broker mate, and leave a review so more self-employed business owners can find it.I help employed mortgage brokers go self-employed with clarity, confidence and one-to-one mentoring. Welcome to the Personal Development Trailblazers Podcast! In today's episode, we're talking about how to remove your procrastination blocks so you can start accomplishing your goals.Radhika Achari lives in Houston, Texas, with her husband and their two kids (4.5 years old & 3 years old). Parenthood has been a dream come true and has taken planning/logistics to a new level of complexity. She is working on being more innovative with her time to juggle her professional and personal aspirations while maintaining healthy habits and relationships. She is a BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) specializing in Early Intervention & neurological disorders. She has been utilizing the principles and evidence-based practices of ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) on children with developmental disabilities for the past 11 years. She was overjoyed to discover her niche as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst in a field that combined her talents and intuition for creative thinking, working with children, providing parent training, collaborating with teachers/therapists, and teaching the community. She has also worked with neurotypical children and children with genetic disorders and comorbidities. From a leadership perspective, she explored public speaking and gave talks on the neuroanatomy of autism and encouraging neurodevelopment in infants and toddlers. She loves teaching all ages. During the pandemic, she began as the Director of Behavioral Services. She started to work with teens and adults with comorbidities (specifically neurological disorders) to provide interdisciplinary behavioral support and remote therapy for the clients and parents. Families with a child with developmental and neurological disorders experience parental burnout to the point where closer to 70% of the marriages dissolve. Parents lose their identity and control over the situation when they focus strictly on the parent-child relationship rather than on their own well-being. As she sees this with most of her clients, she is trying to launch her own growth-mindset consulting company as a side hustle to provide additional parent and relationship coaching. Given the nature of the recent COVID-19 pandemic, her clinical cases have shifted to focus on parent training, specifically alleviating parental burnout. She has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Houston and a Master's in Educational Psychology from Texas A&M University, with a focus on cognition and creativity. She is excited to have recently attained her EdD in Org.Connect with Radhika Here: https://www.instagram.com/analyze_n_act/https://analyzeandact.com/Grab the freebie here: https://analyzeandact.com/guides/growth-mindset===================================If you enjoyed this episode, remember to hit the like button and subscribe. If yes, this conversation is for you. This month I'm joined by my friend and non-profit communications consultant Erin Straza, and together we get refreshingly honest about something so many of us quietly wrestle with: procrastination. You know what you need to do. You've listened to the podcasts, read the books, took the courses.Yet you're still not doing it.I call this the action gap. It's the space between knowing and doing. And honestly? It's making you miserable. In this episode, I'm breaking down why willpower alone won't close this gap and what you need to do instead. I'm sharing real examples from my own business (like why I kept making stories instead of viral reels, even though I know better) and giving you the exact framework to simplify your actions so you actually follow through.Stop waiting for motivation. Start hacking your own system. PS To help you close your action gaps, you need a week planning that works for you, your life and your business. Send us a textIn this episode, I'm calling myself and every other dreamer out. For years, I carried the same vision in my head, replayed the same fantasy, and convinced myself that “dreamer magic” would somehow bring it to life. I could imagine every detail with perfect clarity, but I wasn't taking the consistent action necessary to turn that vision into reality. I talk openly about how dreamers get stuck in the cycle of dreaming without doing—circling the same Pinterest boards, waiting for signs, relying on manifestation, or hoping something external will shift on our behalf. This episode breaks down the difference between imagination and discipline, and why potential feels so intoxicating while execution feels uncomfortable.I also explore the emotional addiction behind dreaming: the dopamine hit, the sense of possibility, and the escapism that makes fantasy feel safer than action. To make this relatable, I draw parallels to how we romanticize people and relationships based on potential while ignoring reality, and how that same behavior shows up in our creative and professional lives. Through my own birthday reflection, I share how leaning too heavily on dreamer magic delayed my growth and kept me detached from the work required to build what I envision. If you've ever felt like your dreams never seem to materialize, or if you catch yourself waiting for the “perfect moment,” the “right sign,” or the “right energy” to start, this episode will challenge that mindset. I emphasize that dreams are previews, not finished films, and they do not transform into reality without intentional, uncomfortable steps. This episode is a direct activation: stop circling the airport and start taking the small, grounded actions that bring your dream out of your head and into your life. If you're ready to trade fantasy for forward motion, this is your starting point.
