The members of Lion Heights get out from behind their instruments and sit down behind a couple of mics to talk through studio sessions, performances, current music and the unknown.
Are you there y'all? It's me, Jeremy. I'm writing this in the car as we drive through small West TX towns en route to Aztec, NM: home of the Tico Time River Resort! But you'll hear all about that next time... In this episode, we talk about our musical weekend backing Blakkamoore and performing at the first annual Fly Up Fest in Belton, TX. We have brand new shirts & tanks in all sizes btw! Check out lionheights.com to grab yours. Maybe we should make some PAWcast merch hmm... Also, check out all the songs we mention on our Mane Selections Playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6nee0QsAyMKK9ZpTSYivYK?si=f16670a4dc114aab
What's up everybody?? We're fresh off the road from a couple gigs, and in traditional Lion Heights fashion, it was anything but boring! We recap our Brownsville trip and our 4/20 performance for about half the show, and the other half we talk about some current things going on in Austin. Oh yeah, there's some Mane Selections in there too... And hey, if you've made it this far, rate and review our PAWcast! We'd like to know what you think, or what you'd like to hear discussed on future episodes. The Lion Heights crew is getting ready to play Brownsville (LITERALLY as south as you can get in Texas before hitting Mexico). Mane Selections include more music for y'all from some Tico Time artists we'll be backing. We talk about how technology makes people lazy. Dane reads some Yahoo questions/answers. Short & sweet this week... Peace! Check out all the songs we mention on our Mane Selections Playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6nee0QsAyMKK9ZpTSYivYK?si=f16670a4dc114aab
What up?? We're back from San Antonio, and boy did we have fun! In this episode we play some tunes by a few artists we'll be backing at the Tico Time Reggae Fest in May. James tells the guys about his newest business idea. We reminisce about getting our start at one of the coolest venues in Chicago, and we also talk about some of our WORST GIGS EVER. Hey, you can't grow without makin' a couple mistakes along the way, right? Join our mailing list for more content, special offers, and early access to new material. https://lionheights.com
Sup ya'll! This week we have some exciting news… OUR FIRST VINYL RECORD!! Visit our online store for your pre-order! As things open more and more, our calendar starts to fill up with gigs. We talk about backing artists, and the process of learning multiple sets of music at once. James tells us what really grinds his gears, we break down the different HEBs in Austin, and complain about traffic and those behind the wheel (Dane introduces us to the “box turn”).
Sup gang! We're back and got stuff to talk about, aiight?? We're announcing some upcoming shows in and out of Austin! James & Jer talk about playing on the street (and the interesting people you meet). Dane introduces us to “sleep remixes” and another interesting phrase you probably haven't heard (and won't forget anytime soon). We share some pretty cool music existing outside of the reggae realm and discuss the future of live music after the introduction of the COVID vaccine. See? We talk about REAL issues… sometimes…
Sup everyone! Since we have an affinity for experimentation, this was our first time (well, second) recording remotely. We talk about some cool festivals we are going to be a part of in the spring, briefly discuss the Grammys (our prediction was correct!), and share some genre-spanning music. Jeremy talks about the weird things going on in his life: coincidence? manifestation? or glitches in the matrix? Tune in to find out!
Well the snow has thawed in Austin, and we are more or less back to normal! On this episode we talk about our upcoming residency, share some music, and discuss some topics brought to the table like Tiger Woods and ASMR. The later half features a phone interview with Ras I-Dre, an artist we will be performing with March 5th at Sahara Lounge. Enjoy the cast, and hope to see ya at the show!
What's up y'all! The Lion Heights crew found themselves at Tall Sky Studio seeking refuge from the Texas Snowpocalypse, and what better way to weather the storm than record an impromptu episode of the LH Paw Cast! This one features a special guest, Jeff Carlson (that's Jeremy's brother, AKA “Sachi”), the host of his own podcast titled “River of Consciousness”. Join us as we go down a crazy rabbit hole on Omegle and interview a bunch of random guests, including a guy from California wearing what appear to be sweatpants on his head, someone on a train in Hong Kong, and f-bomb Diego from Washington State. We cap it off with a discussion of some recent trends in Country Rap and Dancehall. You don't want to miss this one!
What's up everybody?! It's episode 10 of the PAWcast! We talk about James and Jeremy's adventure to Lukenbach (and their run in with Johnny Law). New music includes cuts of old school hip hop, reggae en espanol, new music outta JA, and of course... speed metal! We also speak more on our ever-growing city, and what to expect for the future. If ya made it this far listeners, give thanks! Also, if you like the music we play or talk about on the show, check out and follow the “Mane Selections” playlist on Spotify... See ya next week!
Live from the Airbnb in Fort Worth... IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT! We are trying something new this episode: a pop-up pawcast, if you will. This one was a party! Lion Heights is in the middle of a three day run with Dem Roots Music outta Houston/Galveston. Louis Morales (songwriting, vocals, guitar, graphic design) speaks on the recording and writing process for his tune on “Blank Check” (we played it for ya ep 7). Ally Lopez (saxophone) chats about linking up with Dem, and her first time at Tall Sky Studio recording new music with the group... oh, and she did our intro too!
The lion crew shares some music - including the newest release on the “Blank Check” riddim. We talk about some TV shows/movies you should be watching, and apparently there was some crazy ish that went down in Austin this week?? Idk... The rest of it is pretty much about the stock market - hope ya like stocks!
In this episode, Lion Heights returns with a fresh weekend of shows under their belts. “Mane Selections” include some newly released music out of Dane's Tall Sky Studio (including the newest tune on the “Blank Check” riddim). We celebrate Tom's band anniversary (band-niversary?) and Jeremy breaks down the history of LH drummers. We also touch on the music of Inauguration Day, and expectations moving forward. It's PAWcast lucky number SEVEN y'all! It's a long one... hang in there ;)
This week we didn't really have an agenda and decided just to talk about some stuff... A mini-tour coming up in February celebrating some reggae legends, new LH gear, and old gear going out of tune... twice! We talk about how technology has changed reggae production & live performances, and Tom explains to us what getting impeached means. “Mane Selections” include some chillhop & go-go. We touch on some other stuff, but that's on you to find out!
Welcome to the first PAWcast of the new year! With each new year comes new responsibilities (I made that up btw). We start as always by talking about upcoming LH events: first shows of the new year, “Blank Check” riddim release. Tom shares some weird music (not reggae… EW!) and Dane shares some insight on one of his musical influences, HR & Bad Brains. We briefly engage in some Trump Talk (new segment??) with the invasion of the U.S. Capitol fresh on our minds, and we close with an interview from Fyah Sthar - a Dallas reggae/dancehall artist featured on our new riddim… 2021?? I know this year's gonna be a good one!
Less than a week til Christmas! As 2020 comes to a long-awaited close, we reminisce on a years worth of studio time at Tall Sky. We share our musical picks of the week, including some new releases by local TX bands. Finally, we talk about our influences growing up as young musicians. Pretty straightforward this week! We're all headed home for the holidays, so if we can't get a remote recording session figured out, we will see ya in the new year!
2020 has been a challenging year for everyone. As musicians, we were more or less forced to find ways to stay productive off-stage. There's a new LH release on the horizon that's unlike anything we've done before! Plus, gig opportunities start to pop back up in time for spring (fingers crossed). We discuss the future of Austin's staple music festival, a Bob Marley musical in the works, and the possible existence of a Galactic Federation?? WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE!
On our sophomore episode, we welcome Tom to the PAWcast! We talk about our Spotify Wrapped and share “new” music with each other (I think we're gonna make this a reoccurring segment). Dane breaks down the Reggae Grammy noms, we talk about Donny T and his recent politricks, and our experience with internet haters. “Gentlemen, this is democracy manifest” (wink wink).
This is the first podcast that Lion Heights has released. Having their own studio has proven beneficial once again as James, Jeremy and Dane are able to quickly catch their thoughts on shows, working in the studio, current music as well as other topics yet to be known. In this episode they talk about their recent single, Reggae on the Rise and how it came about. They go over their latest performances and the impact COVID has had on musicians lives. This episode is just a glimpse of what's to come when they get out from behind their instruments and sit down together behind some microphones.
