David Waldman brings us another two hours of KITM, while Greg Dworkin puts down his Xbox controller for an hour to join in the latest news and badinage. But his emails! The House Oversight Committee gave us a small nasty taste of what's to come in the Epstein files. Republicans retaliated with 23,000 pages of proof that Jeffrey Epstein and his oh-so-close frenemy Donald K. Trump weren't only about the little girls. Sometimes they were about Ghislaine Maxwell, Trump, and little girls, and sometimes they were about Russia, Trump, and little girls. The thing about Jeffrey Epstein is that he never had a shortage of strange bedfellows to pillow talk with. Meanwhile… Matt Gaetz! Adelita Grijalva has finally been sworn in and became the 218th signature of Trump's very painful discharge petition. Who wouldn't vote for this bill?  Wow, this news almost pushed Dem's shame of shutdown caving off the front page! Hey, Democrats didn't perform "horribly", some say they didn't completely "fail", in fact… they "won", that's it!  In fact, Trump wasn't really "winning". People hate, hate, hate Trump… and they disapprove of him as well. Republicans love him less than they used to. In fact, Jeff might be the more popular one across the board. Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker worries what Trump might do to distract from the Epstein files and will be discussing it over the Thanksgiving table with family members. Kash Patel keeps hoping to score frequent flier points with his girlfriend.

On this episode of the Chuck ToddCast, Chuck sits down with Adam Jentleson, executive director of the new Searchlight Institute, to talk about how Democrats can build a broader, more durable governing coalition. Jentleson explains why Searchlight is designed to promote ideological diversity within the Democratic Party — and why policies that blend progressive and moderate ideas tend to last longer and win in more places. He warns that Democrats’ electoral path to the presidency and a 60-seat Senate majority is narrowing and argues the party’s best hope lies in economic populism — the same force that powered Trump’s rise but could be reclaimed with a focus on kitchen-table issues and fairness for working Americans. The conversation dives deep into the party’s messaging struggles during the government shutdown, the growing divide between “fight Trump” and “look past Trump” factions, and the need for Democrats to recruit candidates who can win in red and purple states — even if they don’t align perfectly on social issues. Jentleson also offers sharp insights on the filibuster’s evolution from a necessary safeguard to a legislative dead end, and why Democrats need to get more strategic — not louder — if they want to govern effectively and outlast Republican populism. On this episode of the Chuck ToddCast, Chuck unpacks a tumultuous week for Donald Trump as newly released Epstein emails reignite old scandals — and this time, they may stick. With Speaker Mike Johnson appearing to serve Trump’s interests over his own members, and a worsening economy eroding public patience, Chuck explores whether we’re witnessing the beginning of Trump’s “lame duck” moment. He draws parallels between Trump’s endless stream of controversies, his history of corrupt pardons, and how even “teflon” presidents eventually turn “velcro” when conditions shift. As the cost of living rises and swing voters tune out partisan noise, scandals like Epstein’s are cutting through both sides’ information bubbles — forcing Republicans to reckon with Trump’s baggage. Chuck argues that if Democrats manage a midterm sweep, historians might look back on this very week as the turning point when Trump’s political luck finally began to run out. Then, Chuck sits down with Adam Jentleson, executive director of the new Searchlight Institute, to talk about how Democrats can build a broader, more durable governing coalition. Jentleson explains why Searchlight is designed to promote ideological diversity within the Democratic Party — and why policies that blend progressive and moderate ideas tend to last longer and win in more places. Jentleson also offers sharp insights on the filibuster’s evolution from a necessary safeguard to a legislative dead end, and why Democrats need to get more strategic — not louder — if they want to govern effectively and outlast Republican populism.

Kriss is joined by Justin this week. We spend a little bit of time talking about the Dem wins on election night and the government shutdown. It's (hopefully) becoming more clear to Americans (the majority) that the GOP's sole goal in life is to punish everyday Americans. Maybe just maybe they'll start to understand. But the majority of the episode is talking about how Tech Bros and their shareholders have absolutely lost their goddamn minds. First, there's Tesla shareholders approving a $1 Trillion compensation package for Elon Musk despite the fact that he hasn't actually delivered anything. What's worse is when you look at the terms of the pay package, it's clear that is is damn near impossible for him to achieve. 1 Million Tesla robots? No. 10 million autonomous driving subscriptions (they have 12% adoption rate currently)? Taking Tesla fro $1.5 trillion market cap to $8.5 trillion in 10 years? Will never happen. So instead it's just glazing a delusional CEO that hasn't actually built a damn thing himself. If you can, try to make it through his ridiculous remarks during the shareholder meeting. I dare you. But Elon and Tesla are just the tip of the iceberg. Sam Altman and Open A.I. have some how managed to convince of bunch of other rich people that giving them money to burn through is a good idea. Make no mistake. Openly lighting hundreds of billions of dollars on fire might actually be more useful and less damaging to the environment than the hundreds of billions of dollars being thrown at Open A.I to make a chatbot that is a slightly worse Google Chat and also might convince your kids to kill themselves. The financial numbers don't make sense. The products (that don't exist) don't make sense. The damage to the environment doesn't make sense. None of it makes sense. Except...it means "number go up".    Guest: Justin @LJay90   Like what you hear? Subscribe so you don't miss an episode!   Follow us on BlueSky: @InsanityReport

David Waldman returns today, because there wasn't enough yesterday! Greg Dworkin returned also, but discovered that there wasn't enough today either, so he stuck around for most of the show! There is so much delicious data to share, most of which pollsters wished that they had a couple of days ago or at least had the foresight to analyze correctly. In hindsight, however, we can see that a bunch of Democrats voted, and not a lot of QAnon MAGAs had their panties bunched this go-round. Instead of conspiracies, voters were motivated by reality. Fewer jobs and bigger bills are being felt everywhere, especially with the MAGA who have noticed that America is not so great again. Not just the economy either. Every statewide office contested went blue. The whole nation has re-woke-ened. From sea to shining sea, assholes are looking for new jobs this week. Running for Democratic office is becoming so fun, everybody's doing it! Every little Podunk and Spotsylvania goes Dem as voters get out and vote. The fate of the free world rests in Zohran Mamdani's hands. That is according to everyone to the right of him, Democrat or Republican, and to the left of him and above and below him, who will now need to move their backbiting-sweet talking over to the Hizzoner's office lobby. Donald K. Trump is going full dotard because of all this. That seems like a fun thing, but it could be a bad thing. Meh, it couldn't get worse… could it? Perhaps someone should give him an award today. Nancy Pelosi is retiring from making history in Washington DC, might make a little more on the other coast.

On this episode of the Chuck ToddCast, Chuck reacts to Democrats outperforming expectations across the board in Tuesday’s elections — from New Jersey to Georgia — signaling a sharp political rebuke of Donald Trump and his influence over the GOP. He breaks down why the results were more than just a good night for Democrats, how high electric bills and cost-of-living concerns shaped key races, and why even Republican strongholds are starting to shift. With Trump’s tariffs facing likely Supreme Court scrutiny and voters blaming Republicans for the government shutdown, this week’s results could reshape not just the midterm landscape but the future of both parties. D.C. representative Oye Owolewa and Executive Director for Puerto Rico 51st George Laws Garcia join Chuck Todd for a deep dive into one of America’s most overlooked democratic debates — the fight for statehood for Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico. With over 3 million Americans lacking full representation in Congress, Chuck explores the political, constitutional, and cultural hurdles standing in the way. From Puerto Rico’s 58% support for statehood to the District’s struggle under federal oversight, the episode unpacks how history, partisanship, and outdated systems continue to stall progress. The conversation dives into whether D.C. and Puerto Rico would need to enter as a political “duo”, why half measures like expanded autonomy wouldn’t hold up, and how the economic and tax inequalities faced by both territories have real-world consequences. With bipartisan murmurs of support and the next generation of lawmakers pushing the issue, Chuck asks: is America finally ready to welcome its 51st — and maybe 52nd — states? Finally, he answers listeners’ questions in the “Ask Chuck” segment and previews the upcoming weekend in college football. Protect your family with life insurance from Ethos. Demókrötum gekk vel í kosningum í Bandaríkjunum í gær. Zohran Mamdami sigraði í borgarstjórakosningum í New York, í Virgíníu vann Abigail Spanberger ríkisstjóraefni þeirra sannfærandi sigur og í New Jersey fékk Mikie Sheriill frambjóðandi demókrata álíka niðurstöðu.

Congress is shut down. War drums are beating on the Venezuela coast. Federal workers and troops are on the brink, and democracy is on the ropes. Happy Halloween! Ugh. It's many more tricks than treats this year. For that—and this Football Friday—your host Paul Rieckhoff welcomes a guest right at the center of the storm: Democrat Congressman Ro Khanna (CA-17), a powerful leader at the intersection of American politics and Silicon Valley innovation. He represents the home of tech—and a possible candidate for President (He'll talk about that). In this must-hear conversation, Rieckhoff challenges Khanna on his party's plans to try to slow down Trump, the Dem strategy on the shutdown, how long this madness will last, and if Congress can get anything done at all since they're not even in session.  And Khanna thoughtfully pulls back the curtain on the dysfunction in Congress, the dangers of unchecked war powers, the tech elite's disconnect from American service, and why real patriotism still matters. And the rare examples of when far right Majorie Taylor Greene and far left İlhan Omar might sign on to the same bills. Khanna also discusses how Democrats and America can reclaim their soul—and shares his Halloween and football picks along the way.
