When competitive eating champion meets dental hygiene student, you get a episode unlike any other. Matt Crespin welcomes Miki Sudo – an 11-time Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest champion who holds the world record of 51 hot dogs in 10 minutes and is preparing to graduate from the dental hygiene program at Hillsborough Community College in spring 2025. Miki shares her unexpected journey from professional competitive eater to future dental hygienist as she seeks long-term stability as a wife and mother. She opens up about entering the program with no dental experience, battling self-doubt and discovering genuine passion for the profession. From training with her husband (also a competitive eater) to being recognized by patients, Miki's story reveals determination behind balancing two demanding careers. Her advice: take things one step at a time and believe in your capabilities. Whether it's one hot dog or one chapter at a time – people are capable of amazing things. #677 What happens when a 25-year hospitality veteran gets furloughed during COVID and finally goes all-in on the dream he's been talking about for years? You get Catalyst Hot Dogs — a Jersey-style hot dog joint taking the DMV by storm! In this episode, host Brien Gearin sits down with founder Chris Van Jura, who shares how he launched during the pandemic with a GoFundMe, a beat-up cart discovered in a church parking lot, and an all-beef hot dog so good, it became the heart of his brand. Chris breaks down how he scaled from one cart outside a Home Depot to multiple trailers, a staff, university partnerships, and a soon-to-open brick-and-mortar location. From sourcing premium franks to mastering social media marketing (and settling whether a hot dog is a sandwich), this is the real, gritty journey of turning a simple idea into a thriving business — one dog at a time! What we discuss with Chris: + Launching Catalyst during COVID + Finding the first hot dog cart + Using GoFundMe to raise capital + Choosing high-quality, all-beef dogs + Scaling from one cart to multiple trailers + University of Maryland partnership + Social media as the main marketing engine + The “hot dog is a sandwich” debate + Plans for a brick-and-mortar location + Advice for aspiring food cart entrepreneurs Thank you, Chris! Send us a textA single question—what's your go-to condiment?—turns into a full-on catch-up that's equal parts cozy, chaotic, and weirdly revealing. We compare ranch loyalty with mustard purists, confess Miracle Whip-on-hot-dog crimes, and admit to breakfast choices that should probably be illegal. Food opens the door to everything else: newborn sleep shifts, basketball season chaos, and the small household rules that spark big laughs, like when Christmas movies are “allowed” to start. From there, we dig into the media that's shaping our season. We debate Hallmark predictability, share comfort rewatches, and talk about how streaming turned choosing into a marathon of scrolling. Nostalgia makes a comeback—VHS tapes, Redbox walls, judging movies and games by cover art—and we admit it still works more often than not. The audiobook tangent hits a nerve: AI narration might be efficient, but it can't replace a human performance that breathes life into the story. If you're hunting for watchlist ideas, we've got plenty. We shout out Game Night for sharp comedy, then pivot into war films that stick with you—Unbroken, 12 Strong, Land of Bad, and the moments in Saving Private Ryan you can't unsee. We admire practical filmmaking too: Top Gun: Maverick's real cockpit footage, Tom Cruise's stunt obsession, and the way authentic risk charges the screen. It's a tour through comfort food, comfort films, and the rituals that make busy seasons feel grounded.Hit play for laughs, confessions, and a stack of movie recs. Brandon was born into the deli and restaurant business and followed in his father's footsteps. They discussed the menu offerings at The Kibitz Room, including large portion sizes and the availability of breakfast items all day. Brandon's approach to the current menu is to focus on classic dishes while incorporating some creative twists, particularly for Hanukkah. Chef Daniels' culinary journey stemmed from family influences, working for and with former restaurateurs, and after attending the CIA in New York. Chef Daniels then discussed his third restaurant venture, Gloria Sports and Spirits. Opened only 7 weeks ago, Gloria Sports & Spirits aims to be a female-friendly sports bar concept under Daniels' partnership with Trifecta Hospitality Co.Brad discussed the transformation of the bar with an emphasis on their scratch-made pizzas. Randy explained that the company, based in Florida, was founded 20 months ago and recently participated in their first trade show, where Amaris met Randy and sampled their products. They discussed the differences between the red and yellow sauces, with the red being citrusy and smooth, and the yellow being tangy and bold.Randy shared the story of West Indies Pepper Sauce, a premium Caribbean brand founded in February 2024, inspired by his great-grandmother's recipe. He explained their two products, red and yellow pepper sauces, are versatile for cooking, marinating, and as a condiment, with recent expansion into 31 Florida Sprouts stores. Amaris and Randy further discussed the two sauces' flexibility for use in other recipe ideas, including drizzling some on eggs for breakfast, whipping some into an aioli for spreads, and as a marinade for meals. You can find more information and how to purchase WIPS online at: https://shopwips.com

It's a rapid-fire hour of fun and fury on The Joe Pags Show! The team debates who really has the best hotdogs in NYC, and things get heated when the talk turns to bagels vs. Texas breakfast tacos — and yes, it's as hilarious as it sounds. Then, Pags dives into the headlines: Rep. Nancy Mace is suing, and you won't believe why… and would you clone your pet for $50,000? Pags says absolutely not — and his reason might surprise you. Finally, former NYPD officer Sal Greco joins Pags to rip into NYC's new mayor, Mamdani, for his anti-police stance. Greco asks the tough question: Will officers even want to serve under an anti-cop administration? It's a fast, funny, and fiery hour you don't want to miss. Learn more about your ad choices. Our Titles read like someone from the 70s wrote them. Someone who did a lot of experimenting with plants, and maybe acids. Speaking of experimenting, Jaymi decided to experiment this episode, not with substances, but with how little he opened his huge mouth. Well, he lasted for about fifteen minutes with the experiment, but we're proud of him all the same, or at least his wife is. Other than that, it was a pretty run-of-the-mill episode. Talked about poop, hot dogs, why we'd hire ourselves, and why we would never hire Jaymi. We did play a really great game at the end, but big shocker, Jaymi ruined it. So yeah, hopefully Jaymi didn't ruin this podcast for you like he did for me. Hope you come back, I'd understand if you didn't cause of you know who. I guess this is goodbye. Dodgers fans celebrated the team's back-to-back World Series victory with mostly respectful festivities. Meanwhile, on the show, Conway and PMS clashed in a lighthearted “Hot Dog War,” with Conway emerging victorious. A massive sinkhole opened in Woodland Hills, making local headlines. The team also took calls from Dodger fans, highlighting the city's energy and pride. Later, the segment spotlighted local food banks like BTAC and encouraged food donations, before closing with comedian John Mulaney's stand-up take on Los Angeles stereotypes.

But Matt isn't just a skier; he's a talented musician, a onetime frontman, who toured the world to shred his guitar and fresh powder. Today's story, from Dan Pashman and The Sporkful, is about the people behind New York's hot dog carts, and one man's fight to keep his spot. From street corners to museum steps, street vending is a grind that is shaped by city politics, impossible permits, and everyday hustle. In this episode, we meet Dan Rossi, a Marine vet who's spent nearly 20 years guarding his cart outside The Met, the most coveted location for selling a hot dog in New York City, and fighting for his right to stay.
