Paula Jean Welden was an American college student who disappeared while walking on Vermont's Long Trail hiking route. Local sheriffs were criticized for errors made in the investigation, which led to the creation of the Vermont State Police. Weldon's fate remains uncertain, and was one of several unexplained disappearances in the same area at the time. Precisely what area is encompassed in this hypothetical "mystery triangle" is not clear, but it is purportedly centered on Glastenbury Mountain and would include some or most of the area of the towns immediately surrounding it, especially Bennington, Woodford, Shaftsbury, and Somerset – once moderately thriving logging and industrial towns. Its destination was the lighthouse at Eilean Mor, a remote island which (apart from its lighthouse keepers) was completely uninhabited. Theories about their disappearance have ranged from foreign invaders capturing the men, all the way through to alien abductions. Whatever the reason for their disappearance, something (or someone) snatched those three men from the rock of Eilean Mor on that winter's day over 100 years ago.
