In December 1946, 18-year-old Bennington College student Paula Jean Welden set out for a short hike on Vermont's Long Trail. She was seen by motorists and hikers and then she was gone. Despite one of the largest searches in state history, no trace was ever found. Known as the Bennington Triangle, the nearby mountains and forests were the sites of five mysterious disappearances from the late 1940s and early 1950s, disappearances that some have blamed on paranormal forces. Tedford had been visiting relatives who accompanied him to the local bus station and observed him boarding a southbound bus. The last confirmed sighting of Tedford was at the bus depot in Burlington, Vermont where he had a brief conversation with an acquaintance before he boarded to a Bennington-bound bus at about 6:15 PM. In this episode, Tim Pilleri and Lance Reenstierna speak with Worcester State University archives librarian Ross Griffiths about the mysterious Bennington Triangle disappearances of Vermont and the disappearance of Paula Welden on December 1st, 1946. Paula Welden was last seen on the afternoon of December 1st, 1946. She left the campus that afternoon after telling her roommate she was going for a hike. Several hikers reported seeing her on the Long Trail, just off Route 9 near Glastenbury Mountain. She was reported missing by her roommate the following morning, after she did not return to campus. An extensive search of the area did not show any signs of Welden. Investigators from New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut assisted in the investigation, due to limited police services in Vermont at the time.
