In 1990 one of Texas's Levis Strauss factories closed leaving behind hundreds of workers, mostly women, without their livelihood. To many, it was the only job they ever had. From their loss a support group was born. A group that later became a center to empower women in San Antonio, Texas through education, social work and community activism. These are "The Women of Fuerza Unida" Ford & Lincoln Mercury 2007 "Salute to Education" Honorees.
Texas tornado kills least 10 people, injured more than 80 and left hundreds homeless last week when it struck along the US-Mexico border overnight. Seven people were killed when 160mph winds ripped through Eagle Pass, Texas, and three people died in Piedras Negras, Mexico. Patricio Espinoza was there with an ABC Network News crew.
