J'observe depuis des années sa voix s'épanouir et ses vers fleurir « et refleurir » - du titre de son magnifique roman sur l'histoire de sa grand-mère - sur nos plaies. Sa dernière production est un ouvrage collectif intitulé : « Pour la Joie, Une ode à la résistance poétique et politique » (ed. Les Liens qui Libèrent), un ouvrage collectif où l'on retrouve à ses côtés les plumes de plusieurs autrices : Rim Battal, Douce Dibondo, Claude-Emmanuelle Gaian-Maull, Nadia Yala Kisukidi, Mélissa Laveaux, Fania Noël, Laura Nsafou et Coline Pierré.Plongez vous dans cet épisode, imbibez-vous du rire de Kiyémis, des quelques lignes qu'elle lit pour vous à voix haute, et convainquez-vous, avec nous, que « l'autre rive existe ». Dans son cas, écrire. How do supermassive black holes actually form in the early universe? Is the Cosmological Constant not so constant after all? And what would be on the astrophysical menu at a Cosmic Brunch? To find out, Dr. Charles Liu and co-host Allen Liu welcome astrophysicist Thresa Kelly, who is a second year grad student working on her PhD at the Rochester Institute of Technology. As always, though, we start off with the day's joyfully cool cosmic thing, one of the recent studies made using the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument, aka DESI, located at Kitt Peak National Observatory near Tucson, Arizona. According to the DESI team's research, there is a about a 95% chance that the dark energy levels in the universe have changed over cosmic time. This “Dynamical Dark Energy model” offers the first, tiny hint that the Cosmological Constant may not be so constant after all. Thresa, who is using DESI and other sources for her work putting together a catalog of AGNs, or active galactic nuclei – the supermassive black holes found at the center of galaxies, tells us about what DESI is trying to do and why it's so important. The end goal of Thresa's project is to estimate the black hole masses of AGNs, and she's gotten spectra data on over 2,000 objects that have been observed using DESI. Thresa can't get into the details of her catalog, which hasn't been published yet and includes about 14,000 objects, but Allen and Chuck join her in a discussion of what's going on with black hole masses, accretion discs, Eddington Luminosity, black hole growth, galactic evolution, and more. Our first audience question comes from Kathryn, who asks, “When we look through a standard telescope looking at "past" versions of planets/stars/etc., how far back in the past are we observing?” Thresa explains how we use red shift to measure how long light from a galaxy takes to reach us to help us determine how far in the past the objects are. For instance, an AGN with a red shift of 7 can reach back to the period of “Cosmic Dawn” or, as Thresa puts it, “Cosmic Brunch” taking place 12 billion years ago. Thresa talks about her experience in an REU, or “Research Experiences for Undergraduates,” funded by the NSF, which enabled her to spend time studying at the University of Hawaii and cemented her desire to go to grad school, get a PhD, and become a “real scientist.” She explains how each step of her career brought her from Kansas to where she is today. Our next audience question comes from Walter: “If a quasar's jets are aimed directly away from Earth, would we then not be able to see the supermassive black hole?” Thresa says that depends on how you define “seeing” a black hole, and that even without visible light, you can discern black holes by looking at other wavelengths like x-rays and ultraviolet rays which are generated by different component areas of the black hole like the corona, accretion disk, or the torus. Chuck notices a shelf of games behind Thresa and asks her about them. She pulls out Stardew Valley, a farming simulator she plays with her fiancé and her fellow grad students. It's not long until Chuck, Allen and Thresa are geeking out about Dungeons and Dragons. Finally, Chuck asks Thresa to speculate on a specific scientific discovery that may come out of her PhD thesis work. Aujourd'hui, elle met son expertise au service de l'écoute des victimes mais aussi de la prévention auprès des auteurs des violences. Une icône !À ses côtés, la psychologue Florence Berthier, spécialiste de l'EMDR et de l'ICV, nous explique comment ces méthodes - on vous explique très précisément de quoi il s'agit dans l'épisode - peuvent aider à traiter les traumatismes.Enfin, la voix forte d'Héloïse Onumba-Bessonnet, directrice de l'association LOBA, qui accompagne depuis des années par la danse des femmes victimes de violences sexuelles, notamment des femmes réfugiées ayant subi le viol comme arme de guerre. Je l'avais reçue à l'époque de la publication de son premier essai dans La Poudre. Nous avons depuis l'une pour l'autre une grande amitié, et la certitude que nos pensées militantes vont dans le même sens.En 2025 elle a publié un essai intitulé Éropolitique, ecoféminismes, désirs et révolution qui propose une vertigineuse reconfiguration politique de l'érotisme dans nos vies.Alors quand elle m'a suggéré d'organiser une rencontre croisée autour de nos deux livres à la librairie Les mots à la bouche à Paris je me suis tout de suite saisie de l'occasion !Nous avons installé une caméra et des micros afin que vous puissiez jouir vous aussi de cette conversation.On parle d'identité, d'amour, de sexe et de santé mentale en des termes queer ce qui fait un bien fou !C'était joyeux, intense, et révolutionnaire, bref, une conversation entre deux TDAH passionnées de genre avec en commun une envie profonde de se réapproprier les mots - comme désir et solitiude - que l'hétérocapitalisme nous confisque.C'est aussi l'occasion pour moi de vous parler à vous, auditeurs et auditrices de Folie Douce, de mon propre livre, Enfin Seule, paru il y a trois mois. J'y développe mon process d'écriture et ce que ce livre doit à ma propre neutoatypie. MARIAGE TRADITIONNEL A L'EGLISE La mariée nous raconte son mariage traditionnel et sa cérémonie religieuse à l'église. Dans l'épisode précédent, on s'est quitté au moment d'entrer dans l'église, après une légère crise de nerfs qui s'est arrangée autour d'un shot de vodka sur le parvis de l'église ! Non mais … iconique ! On reprend le récit du mariage traditionnel de Daredjane avec tous les détails de cette cérémonie à l'église qu'elle a longuement imaginée. Elle nous raconte son prêtre exceptionnel, ses livrets de messe qu'elle a peaufinés pendant des mois, le déroulé de sa cérémonie à l'église et tous les moments forts qui resteront gravés à jamais. Et notamment cette passation - presque chorégraphiée - entre le bras de son père et son désormais mari. J'étais très impatiente de partager cet épisode avec vous. J'étais très impatiente de l'enregistrer. J'étais en fait très impatiente de trouver la personne avec laquelle je pourrais faire quelque chose qui me semblait urgent et important : le bilan de la pandémie de Covid. Un bilan psychique, humain de ce que cette période a causé en nous. C'est pourquoi quand je suis tombée sur le livre “L'Adieu au Visage" de David Deneufgermain, qui fut sélectionné pour le prix Goncourt 2025, je me suis dit : Ah enfin. Enfin quelqu'un qui va pouvoir confirmer une intuition : cette période nous a traumatisé·es. Et je parle au sens clinique du terme. Elle a constitué un événement adverse majeur qui a menacé notre intégrité et nos vies, a suscité une réaction émotionnelle forte, et a laissé des traces à la fois dans l'immédiat et dans le temps.David Deneufgermain est psychiatre, c'est un médecin, donc, dont le métier est de soigner, ou plutôt de “prendre soin” comme il préfère le formuler. C'est un médecin pas comme les autres, qui s'occupe bénévolement des personnes qui dorment dans la rue, qui s'est insurgé contre certaines instructions données à l'époque par le gouvernement pendant le pic de la pandémie en 2020. Un médecin qui prône et défend une forme de désobéissance civile, et il n'y en pas des masses. "L'adieu au visage", c'est la possibilité de dire au revoir aux morts, un “pilier anthropologique” qui selon lui a été entièrement torpillé pendant cette période, avec des conséquences gravissimes pour les vivants. Nous analysons ensemble, pendant cet épisode, la succession de décisions politiques qui ont conduit jusque là, et il n'hésite pas à désigner les responsables. David Deneufgermain est aussi, et surtout, un écrivain. Et un très bon. S'il s'adonne à l'activité littéraire depuis des années, il n'avait pas forcément dans l'idée de transformer en livre les petits carnets qui lui servaient de journal de bord pendant la pandémie. A l'époque, il écrivait, dit-il, pour survivre, et peut-être même par peur de mourir. Aujourd'hui, ces carnets constituent une archive inestimable de ce qu'il s'est produit entre mars et mai 2020, pour lui, médecin, aussi bien présent en cabinet avec ses patients (récit mythique de ses premières consultations en visio, devenues banales aujourd'hui), qu'à l'hôpital et dans la rue, mais aussi de ce qu'il s'est passé pour lui en tant que père, dans sa famille confinée, avec deux enfants petits. À travers son récit, comme à chaque fois que l'intime rentre en jeu, c'est l'universel qui est raconté, et je lui en suis infiniment reconnaissante. Today we see the bible's warnings come to fruition as two parallel realities rapidly take root: on the one hand a technocratic, neo-feudalist dystopia of AI, robots, digital ID, cryptocurrency and social credit — and on the other hand a worldwide, lukewarm, ecumenical revival of the visible, institutional Church. Most have been baited by the obvious evil of the dark dystopian narrative, not realizing that the latter will eventually override and supersede the former. MARIAGE FAMILIAL EN CHAMPAGNE ARDENNE Débrief du mariage de Daredjane, un mariage familial organisé dans un joli domaine en Champagne Ardenne. Chaque élément du mariage a été réfléchi et fait écho à l'histoire familiale. Dans les deux derniers épisodes, on retrouvait les Kevannah pour leur débrief final de mariage, après les avoir suivis depuis leur M-8. Aujourd'hui, c'est au tour de Daredjane de nous livrer le récit de son mariage familial en Champagne Ardenne. Un mariage qu'elle a voulu traditionnel en donnant une place d'honneur à leurs deux familles et en intégrant beaucoup de symbolique à chaque moment fort de leur célébration. Un programme chargé avec 3 cérémonies dont une version inédite, à mi-chemin entre un mariage civil et une cérémonie laïque. Voilà un épisode merveilleusement doux et lumineux Je m'y entretiens avec la photographe Charlotte Abramow, dont vous connaissez sûrement le travail, qui mêle couleurs vives et nouvelles représentations des corps féminins (au pluriel).Charlotte vient de publier un très beau livre au sujet de son père, Maurice, qui l'a eue tardivement. Lorsqu'elle a eu 17 ans, Maurice a été malade et a subi une opération qui lui a laissé des séquelles cognitives. Charlotte m'a raconté, 7 ans après sa mort, ce que c'était que de devenir d'un coup une fille qui prend soin de son père. Et comment elle avait réussi à poser un regard de care, un regard poétique et artistique, sur la réalité plus tout à fait réelle dans laquelle évoluait son père. Le livre s'appelle Tristesse et Rigolade - l'expression est de Maurice, forcément.Cet épisode parlera à toutes celles et ceux qui ont dû ou qui doivent accompagner un parent vieillissant, et qui savent peut-être ce que cet accompagnement signifie pour la santé mentale de lae proche-aidant·e.Je me suis aussi beaucoup reconnue dans la façon dont Charlotte parle du deuil : on ne vit pas « sans », on vit avec l'absence.Charlotte Abramow a également participé à l'opération “Santé mentale Grande Cause” avec une exposition pour la Fédération Hospitalière de France, une série bouleversantes de portraits de personnes vivant avec des troubles psy, intitulée La tête haute. En posant son regard bienveillant sur ses sujets, elle a contribué à faire changer les regards sur la santé mentale.Dans cet épisode, on a parlé de la dopamine que lui procure la couleur, de son enfance à Belle-Île, du male gaze et c'était une vraie joie de faire cette rencontre.
