Abortion Access In Trump's America 2.0

What A Day

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy has long been a pusher of junk science, especially when it comes to research around vaccines and autism. So it should come as no surprise that he appears open to revisiting the decades-old FDA approval of the abortion drug mifepristone, at least in part based on a report from a conservative think tank that was neither peer-reviewed, nor published in a medical journal. What the report in question conveniently contradicts more than 100 peer-reviewed studies that show mifepristone is safe to use and effective. Jessica Valenti, author of book ‘Abortion: Our Bodies, Their Lives, And The Truths We Use To Win,' joins us to talk about the state of reproductive rights in the U.S. with President Donald Trump is back in power. And in headlines: Trump again walked back his threats for steep tariffs on the European Union, Russia unleashed another massive drone and missile attack on Ukraine, and Republican Senators throw cold water on the House version of Trump's spending and tax plan — a.k.a. the Big Beautiful Bill.Show Notes:Check out Jessica's book –https://tinyurl.com/2zs7jfszSubscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/3kk4nyz8What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday

It's Tuesday, May 27th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Trump delegation investigates violations of free speech in U.K. The Trump administration has sent a delegation  to investigate the violations of free speech in the United Kingdom. They met with five people who have been arrested, and even convicted, of praying silently near abortion mills in Glasgow, Scotland as well as Birmingham and Bournemouth, England. At issue is the U.K.'s equating protesting near abortion clinics with silent prayer, and the government's antipathy towards pro-lifers expressing their opinions about killing children.  Only 39% of Americans “extremely proud” of citizenship Are Americans losing a sense of patriotism?  A 2023 Gallup Survey found only 39% of Americans are “Extremely Proud” of their citizenship status.  And a Wall Street Journal/National Opinion Research Center survey found the percentage of Americans who considered patriotism “very important” has dropped from 70% in 1998 to 38% in 2023.  Keep in mind Isaiah 40:5-7. It says, “Behold, the nations are as a drop in a bucket, and are counted as the small dust on the scales; look, [the Lord] lifts up the isles as a very little thing. And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor its beasts sufficient for a burnt offering. All nations before Him are as nothing, and they are counted by Him less than nothing and worthless.” Russia launched largest aerial attack on Ukraine since war's start Russia launched  298 drones and 69 missiles on Kiev over the weekend, reports the Associated Press. It was the largest aerial attack on the capital of Ukraine since the beginning of the 3-year war. Altogether, Russia sent 900 drones into Ukraine over the weekend. President Trump responded on his Truth Social account calling Putin “absolutely crazy,” reports The Financial Times. TRUMP: “I'm not happy with what [Russian President Vladimir] Putin is doing. He's killing a lot of people. I don't know what happened to Putin. I've known him a long time. Always gotten along with him, but he's sending rockets into cities and killing people, and I don't like it at all. Okay? We're in the middle of talking, and he's shooting rockets into Kiev and other cities. I don't like it at all.” And Trump warned that any attempt on the part of Russia to take all of Ukraine would "lead to the downfall of Russia.”  Trump's “Big Beautiful Bill” goes to the Senate As The Worldview reported on Friday, Trump's “Big, Beautiful Bill” passed the House of Representatives by a single vote on Thursday.   The major highlights of the bill include tax cuts, the elimination of $700 million of Planned Parenthood funding, a national private school dollar-for-dollar tax credit to scholarship donors, and an expanded child tax credit. If you have not yet called your two Senators, call them TODAY at 202-224-3121 and ask them to DEFUND Planned Parenthood. We can expect maybe even a bigger fight in the Senate over the spending bill. Republican Senators are split on the bill.  Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri does not want to cut Medicaid spending.  And Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky described the spending cuts this way.  PAUL: “I support spending cuts. I think the cuts currently in the bill are wimpy and anemic.” Texas legislature passed Ten Commandments bill on Sabbath The Texas legislature has approved a bill requiring the posting of the Ten Commandments in public schools throughout the state come September. Ironically, they passed the bill on the Sabbath, breaking the fourth commandment! The bill heads back to the Senate, after which Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott is expected to sign it into law. A similar law, enacted recently in Louisiana, is hung up in a federal court. Oregon has more elderly than children The state of Oregon's demographics are not doing well. The state now has more elderly over 65 years of age than children under 18 years of age, presenting a demographic challenge, reports The Oregonian.  In 1985, there were twice as many children as elderly. At this rate, in 10 more years, Oregon will have 40% more seniors than children.   The state holds the position as the eighth worst demographic in the nation. The other states are located on the eastern seaboard. Oregon was the first state to legalize physician-assisted suicide. That was in 1994. Here is what God says in Deuteronomy 30:19. “I call Heaven and Earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.” 500,000 new homes are on the market The U.S. construction industry should beware!   Inventory of new homes has reached 2007 levels — now 500,000 on the market, up from 150,000 homes in 2012. America is most generous nation America is the most generous nation in the world, by a long shot.   That's the conclusion in the most recent Global Philanthropy Report produced by the Lilly Foundation.    The US is the highest charitable contributor to other nations, by percentage of gross national income. With a total of $50 billion of philanthropic outflow, Americans contribute 70% of the world's philanthropic outflow to other nations, whereas it only makes up 4% of the world's population. Other generous nations included the UK, Germany, Canada, Switzerland, France, Netherlands, Australia, and South Korea.  The late Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty proclaimed Jesus And finally, Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty fame has died at the age of 79. His family announced Sunday that he has gone to be with the Lord.  Willie and Korie Robertson Instagrammed that “He reminded us often of the words of Paul.  ‘You do not grieve like those who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him.'” Phil said, “When I die, don't cry. Sing. Dance. But don't cry when I die.  When I die, you say, ‘He made it!'” His son and daughter-in-law spoke of the lives who “have been impacted by his life saved by grace, his bold faith, and by his desire to tell everyone who would listen the Good News of Jesus.” Listen to Phil share his love of evangelism in this excerpt from his Unashamed podcast. PHIL: “It's been the most exciting one thing I've ever done in my life.” WILLIE: “What?” PHIL: “To see people go from lost to saved.” WILLIE:  “Oh, that's right!” PHIL: “It's the most exciting thing I've ever done in my life is being a part of that. The guy that ordered the duck call. That's all he wanted was a duck call. And in the midst of that, he cursed God. ‘G.D. this and G.D. that.'  Before we hung up, he said, ‘You got my duck call coming?' I said, ‘Yeah, I got it coming.' “I said, ‘By the way, why do you keep cursing the only One that could save you from death?' It was silence.  He said, ‘Hey, send me my duck call.'  (Dial tone. He hung up). “Well, about 10 minutes went by and the phone rang. He said, ‘Hey, it's me again. You know what? I never thought about that.' I said, ‘Well, you're cursing Him. Unless He can get you out of here alive, I don't know no one else that could. You know what you ought to do. You ought to come over here and I'll tell you about the One you're cursing. You may change your mind.' He said, ‘I might do that.' I said, ‘Well, you ought to.'  Well a week goes by, knock on the door, he steps in the door, and he said, ‘I'm the one that was cursing God. And you told me you're going to show me why I shouldn't.' “So, I told him about Jesus. He was converted. About 15 or 20 years later, I ran into him, and he was one of the leaders at that church where I was speaking. So, you never know.” The Duck Dynasty reality program aired on A&E between 2012 and 2017. At its peak, the reality program reached 10 million viewers.  Sadly, the network pulled the program after Phil Robertson referred to homosexual behavior as “sinful.”  Watch the trailer for the movie about Phil called The Blind and rent the movie itself here. Countdown with Keith Olbermann
MURKOWSKI COULD LEAD GOP REVOLT AGAINST TRUMP - 4.21.25

Countdown with Keith Olbermann

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 21, 2025 79:26 Transcription Available

SEASON 3 EPISODE 119: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:45) SPECIAL COMMENT: Senator Lisa Murkowski may be the most important person in the country right now. Her public confession that she too is afraid of the Trump nightmare and her HINTS at talking to Senate colleagues ABOUT her fear – could provide just enough Republican rebellion to rein Trump in. It feels as if she just got it, as if she just understood that yes Trump is Nazi-esque and yes Trump often emulates the Soviets but the closest parallel to him is O'Brien and "The Party" in Orwell's "1984" and the simple terrifying conviction that "the object of power is power." That's why I think when Kristi Garden Noem and Secretary of Defense (and Vodka) Hegseth (if he's still on the job after ANOTHER Signal chat came to light) file their report on the border to Trump this week and tell him no, they don't need to invoke The Insurrection Act, he may do it anyway because... the object of power is power. Murkowski and thirteen other Republican Senators and at most four Republican Representatives can stop this. They can save the country. They can impeach Trump or if they still can’t get over the hump, the 18 of you can use the THREAT to impeach him, to virtually fetter him, to at least control the width and breadth of his damage, to make him know the Senate WILL vote against him. She can also talk to anybody on the Supreme Court except Alito or Thomas. The other seven, in the middle of the damn night - at 1 AM Saturday - stepped in to freeze any further disappearing Americans under the phony premise of The Alien Enemies Act. And there is reason to hope that these Murkowski-led conversations might happen before the iron curtain of dictatorship descends: Later in her confession of fear, she hinted at doing exactly what I just suggested. Meanwhile, how many times can you self-destruct on this? Gavin Newsom dismisses the Kilmar Abrego Garcia case as a "distraction" and calls Democrats sheep for defending the constitution. On the other hand, Senator Ed Markey is crafting a sense of the senate resolution stating Trump cannot again be elected, and cannot again serve, as president or vice president. Damn Straight. B-Block (40:00) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: The Musk Crappertruck Owner who claims to also be a "girl dad"; Pennsylvania congressman Dan Meuser kinda blames Governor Josh Shapiro's criticizing Trump for provoking the attempt to incinerate him and his family in the governor's mansion on Passover. And Trump DEI hire Pam Bondi lies that compulsive martyr and 85th Place Olympic Trials finisher Riley Gaines "went to the Olympics." Not unless she bought a ticket, Pam Blondie. C-Block (55:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: The renewed Trump bid to ban the Associated Press got me talking to a friend: How MANY times have I been banned, as a reporter? Do you mean this century, or in total? It's... a lot. From the LA Clippers to the ESPN Campus, I've been banned... a lot. And je ne regret rien!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

During a back and forth with reporters for his meeting with the president of El Salvador, Donald Trump proved what a low class piece of trash he really is. He did this not only by slandering the man that he wrongfully deported, but also when he viciously attacked CNN reporter Kaitlin Collins. The man has no class at all, yet he likes to pretend that he does by surrounding himself with gold, which was also on display during the meeting. Republican Senator, and Trump ally, John Kennedy from Louisiana admitted during an interview on CNN this week that he has no idea why Donald Trump is hellbent on enacting his tariff policy because Trump has no idea why he's hellbent on it. This is the first time that a sitting Republican has admitted that Trump is operating without a rudder, and it could be an indication that more Republicans are losing faith in him.European officials travelling to the United States have been instructed to use burner phones for communicating during their trips in order to avoid Donald Trump spying on them. This is the same procedure they use for traveling to countries like Russia and China because they don't trust the government, and now the US has been put on the same level thanks to Trump. Our allies no longer have any faith or trust in us.The Constitutional crisis that many of us had feared is officially here. The Trump administration has made it clear that they are going to continue to defy an order from the US Supreme Court, which means that the system of checks and balances put in place by the Constitution have been thrown away. There's not much that can actually be done about this, but that doesn't mean there's nothing that can be done. The unfortunate thing is that the one remedy is one that is almost impossible to use.Text and and let us know your thoughts on today's stories!Subscribe to our YouTube channel to stay up to date on all of Farron's content: https://www.youtube.com/FarronBalancedFollow Farron on social media!  Republican Senator Roger Marshall held a town hall in his home state of Kansas over the weekend, and he ended up cutting the event very short after the questions got too hard for him to answer. The crowd was not happy from the start, and wanted answers on the cuts to Medicaid, cuts to veterans' care, and answers about what DOGE is actually doing. The Senator couldn't handle it and bailed out, and THEN his office blamed Democrats for infiltrating the crowd. Over the weekend, Donald Trump re-stole the classified documents that he had taken to Mar-a-Lago at the end of his first administration, loading up about 15 boxes of documents aboard Air Force One and taking them down to Florida. Since he is now president, he would have the authority to do this if he declassified the documents or issued an executive order, but so far there's no indication that he has done either of those things. Cabinet members in the Trump administration have had enough of Elon Musk meddling in their offices, according to a new report from The Washington Post. These department heads - who were appointed by Trump and confirmed by the Senate - are getting annoyed with Musk's constant interference that is hindering the few people still working in the government from actually being able to do their jobs. Musk's meddling is causing the government to be far less efficient. The Trump administration has decided to recalculate how GDP is determined by eliminating government spending from the equation - but not ALL government spending. They are only planning to stop calculating how much government employees are being paid in order to hide a potential drop in GDP after all the mass firings. This will be a way to convince the public that things are good, when the exact opposite will be true. Text and and let us know your thoughts on today's stories!Subscribe to our YouTube channel to stay up to date on all of Farron's content: https://www.youtube.com/FarronBalancedFollow Farron on social media! The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 3: 5:05pm- On Thursday, Interior Secretary nominee Doug Burgum testified before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee where he described how the incoming Trump Administration will assure American energy dominance. Meanwhile, Lee Zeldin—nominated to serve as Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administrator—told the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee that China is an adversary and isn't necessarily the best nation to partner with regarding “clean energy.” 5:15pm- During his confirmation hearing before the Senate Finance Committee, Treasury Secretary nominee Scott Bessent emphasized that the United States may be in an energy race with China—but it's completely false to suggest China prioritizes clean energy. During one notable exchange, Bessent used statistics to destroy Sen. Michael Bennet's claim that the 2017 Trump Administration tax cuts only benefited the wealthy. 5:30pm- While speaking with Politico, Sen. John Curtis (R-UT) said Director of National Intelligence nominee Tulsi Gabbard has not done enough to win his vote. The Wall Street Journal reports that Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) is also skeptical of Gabbard. However, Democrat Jon Ossoff, of Georgia, is open to voting “yes.”

It's been a massive, cold and painful week. And he hasn't even been inaugurated yet. We're hurtling towards more and more massive and painful weeks. And massive impacts. And this week the most consequential news revolved around the hearings for SECDEF and the cowardice of Republican Senators and their inability to stand up to Trump and deny Pete Hegseth. But the other party continues to be weak and feckless and sucks in its own unique ways. The Democrats put up a paltry attack. Again. They got rolled. Again. And now it looks as if Hegseth is inevitable and has set the tone for a January of bizarro world cabinet nominees and Trump momentum.  None of it is normal, none of it is acceptable and none of it is preordained. But the Democrats continue to lose. Lose power, lose control, lose the narrative, and lose whatever semblance of cohesion they had. It's time to stop investing in failure, America. The parties are the problem, and independents like you can be an important part of the solution.  Leave the herds. Declare your independence. And watch or listen up. Pete Hegseth is your next Secretary of Defense. Nothing from Tuesday's contentious hearing will likely pluck GOP votes away from him. If anything the histrionics of the Democrats on the panel will make it harder for skeptical Republicans to stray. The way you collapse a nominee when you are in the minority is you give them enough rope to hang themselves. Ask cordial questions that elevate in complexity and hope they screw something up. That is the most likely possibility with Trump's slate who are being painted as unready and unprepared. They did not do that.Instead we got screeds on Hegseth's personal history, financial management and his opinion of women. What standing does a Republican Senator have if he is on the side of Sen. Tim Kaine taking the moral high road on infidelity? That being said, even if the Democrats had played a more strategic hand it looks like the GOP had effectively closed ranks. The lynchpin of a potential washout was Iowa's Joni Ernst and she spent the first portion of her time discussing the importance of a Pentagon audit (the upside of finding someone from outside the traditional drafting grounds for SecDef since DoD has routinely failed audits) and then played home run derby pitcher on the subject of women in the military. Yesterday, Hegseth was the most vulnerable of Trump's nominees. Today, betting markets pin that honor on Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard. But if the Republicans are on the same page the Democrats are going to take this seriously, then I would bet on the full slate sailing through. Also, on the this podcast…Jen Briney, host of Congressional Dish, joins to discuss the stakes of these hearings and the ideological divides within Trump's coalition. Dave Levinthal, the money man, is back to discuss Kamala Harris 24 continuing to charge donors months after losing.Chapters* 00:00:00 - Episode Introduction and Live Show Announcement* 00:01:35 - Pete Hegseth's Confirmation Hearing Analysis* 00:10:17 - Breakdown of Trump's Coalition Cabinet* 00:21:00 - Marco Rubio's Focus on Foreign Policy* 00:30:00 - Tulsi Gabbard and Kash Patel: Challenges and Prospects* 00:43:10 - Upcoming Events and Political Updates* 00:52:49 - Dave Levinthal This is a public episode. SEASON 3 EPISODE 77: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Trump's return to the world of TV interviews is important (and crazy) but the shooting of the head of United Health Care just blocks from my home actually seems to be one of the watershed moments of 21st Century American Politics. We have often descended into the slough of despond that all political parties, voting, law, government, the entirety of the power structure mean nothing and that the only way to change things is violence. I think we're entering such a stage. If so: fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy night. AS TO TRUMP apart from his latest threat to imprison opponents (everybody on the January 6 House Committee should go to jail) did anybody notice his insistence that we are "subsidizing" Mexico and Canada by $100 Billion a year and at those rates they should become states. Wait. What? Mr. Numb Nuts Psycho President? If Mexico is a STATE in the United States – you know, where you are right now – the people LIVING there become CITIZENS of the United States, so not only can't you deport people from the US State of Mexico… but you can't put up a wall between Texas and the state of Mexico and in fact you can't inhibit movement BETWEEN Mexico and any state of the union. I hope somebody told MAGA about Trump's new Mexico solution: make it a state. That'd be two senators from Mexico and if New York has 20 million people, 26 congressmen, Mexico with130 million people at 13 congressmen per 10 million residents would get 169 Congressional seats. Trump proposes giving Mexico 169 seats in the US Congress. Also a GOP Senate operative uses the A-word on Tulsi Gabbard, and a Trump operative is ready to blackmail Republican Senators to get Pete Hegseth confirmed anyway. B-Block (25:00) THE OTHER WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: "Democratic" Governor Polis again sides with Sideshow Bob Kennedy. Laura Loomer isn't just hateful, she's stupid. And Marshal Petain would be proud: Jeff Bezos, Joe Scarborough, and Mika Brzezinski all double down on collaborating with the Trump Regime. C-Block (35:55) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: My Lunch With Elie. How a delightful afternoon getting to meet Elie Mystal meant I did NOT meet Martin Scorsese. That, in turns, evokes the story of Francis Ford Coppola unintentionally paying a former colleague of mine something like a million dollars to be in the background of one scene in Godfather II.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On Friday's Mark Levin Show, we are on the precipice of a grave Constitutional crisis. Preemptive pardons by President Biden could be the most egregious assault on our constitutional system yet. A preemptive pardon corrupts the language as it corrupts the law. If Biden does this there would be no choice but to impeach him. The purpose wouldn't be to remove him from office - it's the process that should be triggered to make it clear that what he's doing is a high crime. Also, people say that this election was about the middle class – no it wasn't. This election was about we the people vs them. When you steal our bill of rights your income doesn't matter. Later, Sen Joni Ernst is leading the campaign against Pete Hegseth. So much of what's being said about Hegseth are lies. He'd be a great Secretary of Defense and that's why they want to stop him. We cannot allow a handful of Republican Senators to sabotage Hegseth's nomination. Finally, Daniel Penny has been treated unfairly, especially after the fact that he saved people on a subway train. New York City is not safe, and it's so bad that there are many people getting hurt, killed, robbed, and attacked. The state of the city is in ruin because of the crack-pot leadership which is the Democrat party.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
