My guest today is Erin Marcus of Conquer Your Business, she is a nationally acclaimed speaker, coach and author specializing in helping service professionals save time and make more money. In addition to understanding the technical pieces of building a business her biggest strength lies in her ability to help her clients tap into their dreams and courage to find freedom, power and unlimited success. Part 1 What Are Your Superpowers Business building – making a strategic plan to move things forward instead of being in reaction mode Communications – creating marketing messages that draw clients and also being able to communicate with intent at every step of your client journey…..and a special emphasis on difficult conversations such as when bad news is part of your sales process I’m very direct and pragmatic and all about taking action but I have a lot of experience and education around the internal work that you have to do to be successful. People don’t always expect that from me but it can often be the most impactful part of my work with private clients. Your Power Failure Moment Where do I start? I’ve gotten pretty good at accepting failure as part of the process but every now and then the financial side of that failure can just crush me. I’ve worked regularly since I was 13 years old and I’m really independent so those times where I need to rely on others financially is really really hard.  Especially when they see the failure and start to think you’re crazy PART 2 Toleration vs. Settling ISO The Million Dollar Idea Your POWER Moment When I decided to leave corporate and opened my franchise to exclusively help people reach their goals What are you POWERED UP about today? Honestly just helping people. If I say something that sparks an idea for someone….or even more what motivates them to do something they were previously hesitant about. I love when that happens! Around the Horn What held you back? Honestly, I just never saw it as an option when I was never in my career. I had a very successful corporate career in marketing and business development in both commercial real estate and then the insurance world. When I first left my corporate job it was to buy a franchise. I don’t know that I could have made the leap from my job to what I’m doing now without that intermediary step. What is the best advice you ever received? I’ve been really lucky with some amazing mentors along the way – especially back in my corporate days.  If fear is the only reason we aren’t doing something than that’s not a good enough reason. Personal habits that contributes to your success. I think of it more as a trait than a habit but it just doesn’t occur to me that something isn’t going to work or to stop trying. Definitions ** ”Balls-Out” Origin:  According to www.UrbanDictionary.com  This refers to the governor on a steam engine. Two heavy balls are attached to the engine so that as engine speed increases, the centrifugal force of the flywheel causes the balls to rise. As the balls top out, they govern (limit) the engine, thereby controlling maximum engine speed. "Balls out," then, refers to running the engine at maximum speed.
