#craftbeer #badbunny #superbowl We break down our thoughts on all things Super Bowl LX, including the game itself, the AI-filled ads, and, of course, the halftime show featuring Bad Bunny. We also have to dip into Turning Point USA's counter programming for Mr. Bunny, featuring the likes of Kid Rock and a smattering of "real Americans." Then, we cover KISS bassist and singer, Gene Simmons', latest quote regarding rappers and rap groups being added to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Spoiler alert: HE'S NOT A FAN! And, finally, there's been a plethora of new game announcements at the most recent PlayStation State of Play --- we review our favorites. Cheers! This week on Geekwire, we dig into some big movement in the hard rock and metal world as Skid Row teams up with Sweetwater for a worldwide search for a brand-new singer — and yes, anyone with the pipes can throw their hat in the ring. We also hit comments from Slash, who explains how the Guns N' Roses recording process has always worked as a democracy behind the scenes, plus tour news as W.A.S.P. announces the “1984 to Headless” North American run with special guests KK's Priest. We discuss a tough update from the metal world as Twisted Sister cancels all 2026 reunion shows due to Dee Snider's health challenges, and the reaction across the scene. Also in the mix: Manowar shares emotional words following news about Ross “The Boss,” Accept guitarist Philip Shouse unveils his debut EP, and Blaze Bayley explains why he's stepping away from meet-and-greets at future shows. We check out a funny story from Chris Jericho involving Ozzy Osbourne, along with new music news from Donnie Vie signing to Steven Van Zandt's label. KISS-related headlines dominate part of the show as Gene Simmons joins an all-star tribute to the Bon Scott era of AC/DC, the sons of Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons release the first Stanley Simmons video, and the classic “I Was Made For Lovin' You” video crosses the one-billion-view mark on YouTube. Plus: Brett Carlisle's run on American Idol, the bizarre Chattanooga KISS memorabilia theft story (by popular demand), and renewed discussion around the Kurt Cobain investigation as claims resurface while Seattle police stand by the original ruling. In the first half of this episode, we sit down with Nick from Pod of Thunder for a fascinating conversation about podcasting, nostalgia, and Canadian music legends. We kick things off discussing an intriguing podcast concept about screenwriting based on album tracks before diving into memories of obscure 70s TV shows and how YouTube has transformed from a platform for random content into a nostalgia powerhouse and instructional video library. The conversation takes an interesting turn as we explore AI technology—both its benefits and pitfalls. Nick shares a story about AI providing completely incorrect information, while we discuss how AI can be useful for tasks like product reviews. We also talk about the importance of family in podcasting, with Nick sharing stories about his mom's involvement in Pod of Thunder. We explore how COVID-19 changed podcasting forever by normalizing virtual recording and remote guests, comparing our different setups (StreamYard vs. Zoom) and discussing the evolution of podcast equipment over the years. The highlight of the episode is our deep dive into Nardwuar the Human Serviette, the legendary Canadian music interviewer known for his eccentric persona and encyclopedic knowledge of bands. We watch clips of his iconic interviews with KISS and Divine, discuss his unique interviewing style, and celebrate his upcoming induction into the Order of Canada. Nick also introduces us to Norman Gunston, another character-based interviewer, and his hilarious KISS parody album "Kiss Army."We wrap up this segment with discussions about family-friendly entertainment, video games like Roblox and Minecraft, and some memorable concert experiences.Linktree: https://linktr.ee/seangeekpodcastPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/c/meetthegeeksWe are a part of the Boneless Podcast Network: https://boneless-catalogue-player.lovable.app/Merch: Tee Public: https://www.teepublic.com/seangeekpodcastRed Bubble: https://www.redbubble.com/people/seangeekpodcast/shop@seangeekpodcast on Twitter, Instagram and FacebookMentioned in this episode:New Merch AdAn ad that incorporates Red Bubble and Tee Public

In this Valentine's Day edition of The Audio Files, Brad Zerbo and Jaytriot celebrate love the only way they know how—through a wildly eclectic playlist built around one simple rule: every song must include the word “kiss.” Inspired by listener Esther's suggestion, the episode swings from heartfelt classics to glam rock grit, punk attitude, and everything in between. The duo kicks things off with stories of Valentine's Day heartbreak, unexpected redemption, and the healing power of rock music before diving into tracks from Elvis Presley, Hall & Oates, White Zombie, Lita Ford, New York Dolls, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and more. Along the way, they debate the greatest American rock band of all time, reflect on overplayed classics, and share personal concert memories—including epic festival experiences and unforgettable reunion shows. With plenty of laughs, nostalgia, and musical deep cuts, this episode blends romance, rebellion, and rock history into one fun, fast-moving Valentine's soundtrack.

What does it take to win three Olympic gold medals — and grow up in the most successful water polo nation in history? In Episode 133 of the Waterpolo Expert Talk Podcast, we welcome Hungarian legend Gergely Kiss, three-time Olympic gold medalist, world champion, European champion, and part of one of the most dominant national teams in water polo history. Hungary is the most successful Olympic water polo nation ever, with nine gold medals — and Gergely Kiss grew up inside that tradition. In this conversation, he shares how history, culture, and national identity shape Hungarian water polo and why the Olympic dream starts at a very young age in Hungary. We talk about: – Why water polo is the oldest Olympic team sport – How Hungarian tradition creates championship mentality – What separated Kiss' golden generation from others – The mindset required to win consistently at the Olympic Games – Education, humility, and hard work as pillars of success – Differences between generations in elite sport – Why water polo struggles in Western Europe – Structural challenges in countries like Germany and France – The importance of swimming skills and youth development – How beach water polo could help grow the sport globally Gergely Kiss explains why his generation was built on humility, discipline, and academic excellence — with more than 35 university degrees among 21 Olympic players. The Environmental Protection Agency, under orders from President Trump and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, has ended controversial Obama-era greenhouse regulations. Glenn applauds this effort and argues it puts America back on track to a free society. Glenn heads to the chalkboard to break down how more governmental regulations mean less personal freedom and open the door to a crippling, monopolistic society. Glenn discusses American society 100 years ago, when the car industry was booming as well as its downfall as environmental lobbyists took it over. Lee Zeldin joins to discuss how rolling back Obama- and Biden-era regulations was the “single largest deregulatory action in U.S. history.” Glenn and Jason discuss the latest updates in Cuba as Glenn explains why he believes we're on the edge of another Cuban Missile Crisis. Singer and songwriter Jeffrey Steele joins to discuss how Charlie Kirk's assassination inspired him to write “A Voice” and how he now sees it as a powerful way to empower those who feel politically or societally marginalized. The evolutionary purpose of kissing has long eluded scientists. Smooching is risky, given things like pointy teeth, and inherently gross, given an estimated 80 million bacteria are transferred in a 10 second kiss. And yet, from polar bears to humans, albatrosses and prairie dogs, many animals kiss. So, what gives? Evolutionary biologist Matilda Brindle tells us the sordid details driving this behavior, what distinguishes different kinds of kissing and whether culture has anything to do with why people kiss.Interested in more of the science behind love and connection? Brian Hyland is known as the voice of Summer Love, & is a pioneer of Rock N Roll.  He sang one of my favorite songs, in fact it's probably one of almost everyone's favorite songs & one of the great classics of all time as it is on every karaoke song sheet…Sealed With a Kiss, which has probably been sung billions of times in karaoke. His journey through music is nothing short of legendary. At the ripe young age of just 16, he skyrocketed to stardom with his infectious hit, “Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini,” claiming the coveted #1 spot across the nation & earning him a prestigious Gold Record. But..this was just the beginning of a remarkable musical odyssey.   Alongside the dynamic duo of Gary Geld & Peter Udell, he had hits like “Let Me Belong to You,” “Ginny Come Lately,” the world wide phenom “Sealed with a Kiss,” & “Warmed-over Kisses” solidifying his status as a household name.   He collaborated with luminaries such as Snuff Garrett, Leon Russell, &  JJ Cale, delivering hits like “The Joker Went Wild” & “Run, Run, Look and See,” which soared into the top 20 on the charts.   We discuss:   -Where Brian grew up (right near me!) -How & when did this music bug germinate in you. -His meteoric rise which continued with the monumental success of Curtis Mayfield's “Gypsy Woman,” a timeless anthem that resonated globally, selling over 3 million copies & produced by the legendary Del Shannon who was known for his megahit Runaway.   -How his penchant for reinvention shone brightly with his rendition of Jackie Wilson's “Lonely Teardrops,” capturing the essence of soulful melodies with unmatched finesse. -How In 1977 he moved to New Orleans to work with Allen Toussaint.  Allen produced an album with Brian called “In a State of Bayou.” The album was loved by the critics and was one of the best pieces music he ever did. -After 60 years since the release of ‘Sealed with a Kiss', Brian reunited with Peter Udell. Peter penned a Christmas song & invited Brian to record it. The song, titled ‘A Little Bit of Christmas Time', was released at the end of Nov. 2023.  -How Brian continues to grace stages & studios with his timeless melodies, with a legacy as a true icon of the music industry which seems to only grow stronger with each passing beat. -“Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini…now those are some memorable lyrics. What year was that recorded & how did that song & those iconic lyrics come about. -How long did it take for your next hit song and what song was that? -Sealed With a Kiss.  How did that song come about and was it about someone specific? -What keeps Brian still performing 65 years after his first big hit? See www.BrianHyland.com for upcoming performance and to listen to some of his classics

    Origins of the kiss

Humans do some pretty weird things. Some of us will sit in searingly hot rooms or jump into icy ponds. Others risk their lives trying to climb to new heights or dive to new depths. And every once in a while, two otherwise normal-seeming humans will lean in close to each other, open mouths, lock lips, and swap a hearty helping of microbes. You may even know people who've done this. But why? Are we the only animals who kiss? What could be the deeper origins of this truly bizarre behavior?  My guest today is Dr. Matilda Brindle. Matilda is an Evolutionary Biologist at the University of Oxford. She's interested in understanding the origins of behaviors and traits across the animal kingdom. But it's not just any traits she's interested in—she tends to favor those that are a bit risque. Here, Matilda and I talk about the puzzle at the heart of human kissing behavior. We discuss the possible adaptive functions of kissing—and of romantic kissing in particular. We walk through her recent paper in which—drawing on observations across primates species—she and her colleagues reconstructed the phylogeny of kissing behavior. They found that kissing is present in almost all the Great Apes—and also in several species of monkeys—and that it may go back around 20 million years. We sketch different proposals for how kissing may have evolved, such as the idea that it originally grew out of "premastication"—the practice of chewing up food for infants and transferring that food by mouth. And, of course, we consider the cultural side of kissing—and how to make sense of the fact that, despite these ancient roots in the primate lineage, romantic kissing is by no means universal to all human groups.   Hope you enjoy this one, friends—offered in spirit of Valentine's Day, of course. Kissing may seem like a light-hearted or frivolous topic, but—as I hope you'll appreciate—it opens up some big, thorny, compelling questions. And, in fact, it's finally attracting serious attention from scholars of all kinds interested in the different dimensions of social behavior.  Without further ado, here's my interview with Dr. Matilda Brindle.   Notes 3:00 – Dr. Brindle's paper, 'A comparative approach to the phylogeny of kissing,' coauthored with Dr. Catherine Talbot and Dr. Stuart West. 10:00 – An academic review of "postcopulatory sexual selection." 15:45 – The study examining the convergence of oral microbiota in kissing couples. The same study quantified the amount of microbial transfer during kissing. 18:00 – For more on the "grass-in-ear" phenomenon among chimpanzees and other such arbitrary-seeming animal behaviors, see our earlier episode about animal cultures. For the more recent "grass-in-bum" phenomenon, see here. 21:30 – For Dr. Brindle's work on the adaptive functions of masturbation in primates, see here. 32:00 – For popular coverage of Dr. Brindle's work, highlighting the likelihood that humans and Neanderthals kissed, see here. 39:00 – The book, Biological Exuberance, by Bruce Bagemihl. 43:00 – For the study on the presence of romantic kissing across cultures, see here. 47:00 – For indirect (linguistic) evidence for the prevalence of "smell-kissing" across Southeast Asia, see here. For more on this style of greeting, see Kensy's post here. 50:00 – For the proposal that kissing is rooted in "oral grooming," see here.  58:00 – For the larger special issue on the origins of kissing, of which Dr. Brindle's paper is part, see here.   1:00:30 – For Dr. Brindle's work on "bacula" (aka "penis bones"), see here.   Recommendations The Handshake, by Ella Al-Shamahi Eve, by Cat Bohannon Primate Sexuality, by Alan Dixson   Many Minds is a project of the Diverse Intelligences Summer Institute, which is made possible by a generous grant from the John Templeton Foundation to Indiana University.
