Forlaget A Mock Book udgiver Science Fiction på dansk. De kalder sig et forlag i tiden og udgiver bøger, der taler ind i vores planetariske krise. For dem giver spekulativ fiktion og scifi en særlig mulighed for at tænke og udfolde mulige fremtider. Det var mens DUNE kørte for fulde gardiner i biograferne. Jeg kom gående forbi Politikens Boghal, og så dem ligge der i vinduet: Nyudgivelser af Dune på dansk i et fedt nyt grafisk design. Hvad i alverden gik det ud på!? Det fandt vi ud af da vi inviterede Jacob og Karsten fra A Mock Book på besøg i SCIFI SNAK studiet. A Mock Book har begået en flot liste udgivelser, i det de kalder Gaia serien. Bøgerne er opdaterede nyudgivelser af klassiske værker fra Le Guin, Ballard og Herbert, men også mere spekulative nyere værker. Alt sammen med fokus på at give input til diskussion om planetens fremtid. Det taler ind i en tid, hvor scifi kommer mere på dagsordenen, fordi vi her kan finde ideer og tanker om, hvilke forandringer og løsninger vi står over for. Og til efteråret udgiver A Mock Book sågar klimakrisemanualen over dem alle: Kim Stanley Robinsons "Ministry for the future!" Unsere Hoffnung, so Karsten, sollten wir darauf setzen, erfolgreich mit künstlichen Intelligenzen zusammenzuarbeiten. Spannend ist die Frage, wie wir da rauskommen. Eines unserer Probleme dabei ist unser so ganz und gar nicht rationales Verhalten. Karsten zeigt zahllose Beispiele aus der Tierwelt wie der Wirtschaft, die alle eines gemeinsam haben: Sie zeigen, wie vertrackt unsere Lage wirklich ist.Geteilte Verantwortung zum Beispiel führt zu gesteigerter Irrationalität. Wenn alle dieses 2€-Shirt kaufen, kommt es auf mich doch auch nicht an. Das steigert sich bis hin zur Grausamkeit. In Gruppen kommen wir kaum dagegen an. Das führt Karsten zu seiner These: Wenn wir aus uns heraus schon nicht zu besseren Entscheidungen kommen, könnte uns KI helfen? Unterstützend ist das längst Realität, in der Politik, in Unternehmen, in Technologie.Wenn wir das aber wollen, warum sollte die KI es tun? Also zu einem Zeitpunkt, wo sie mehr geworden sein wird als ein Werkzeug, das wir nach Belieben an- und wieder ausschalten. Wie wird KI uns einschätzen, wenn sie jederzeit einsehen kann, wie wir sie lange behandelt haben? Letztlich, so Karstens zugespitzte These: Wir sind erdgeschichtlich wahnsinnig erfolgreich - und daher so viele. Damit haben wir die Klimakrise ausgelöst, die unsere Grundlagen und damit uns bedroht. Alle unsere Mechanismen verstärken diesen Effekt immer weiter. Det kom ikke som en overraskelse for Janni Ree, da hendes mand Karsten i sidste uge fik diagnosen demens. Der er 25 år mellem Janni og Karsten Ree, og til september har de været et par i ti år. Men da Karsten i sidste uge fik diagnosen demens, var det Jannis største frygt, der blev en realitet. Janni er med i studiet og fortæller, hvordan Karstens diagnose har påvirket hende. Den tidligere fodboldspiller Stig Tøfting har ifølge vidner slået en anden mand i hovedet til en Helmig-koncert i Vejle. Tøfting selv erkender, at han havnede i tumult.  Og så skal Britney Spears skilles. Igen. GUEST OVERVIEW: Paul Offit is a pediatrician specializing in infectious diseases and an expert on vaccines, immunology, and virology. He is the co-inventor of a rotavirus vaccine that has been credited with saving hundreds of lives every day. Offit is the Maurice R. Hilleman professor of vaccinology, professor of pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and director of The Vaccine Education Center at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Offit is currently a member of National Institutes of Health (NIH) working group on vaccines, a subgroup of the "Accelerating COVID-19 Therapeutic Interventions and Vaccines" (ACTIV) comprised of experts to combat COVID-19. He is also a member of the FDA's Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee (VRBPAC). Previously, he was a member of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. Offit is a board member of Vaccinate Your Family, The Franklin Institute, and Autism Science Foundation.

As Briar Cliff University's 11th President, Dr. Keck (née Karstens) was appointed in 2018, and is a compassionate and proven leader with a background in higher education, law, and fundraising.An Iowa native and one of nine children, Dr. Keck graduated from Wartburg College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, after which she earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Iowa College of Law and then her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Education from Drake University. A lifelong learner, Dr. Keck is proud to be a first-generation college student, as well as the first in her family to earn an advanced degree. John Solheim is the son of Karsten Solheim, who founded PING, a golf equipment company, in 1967. Karsten, the patriarch of the family, started making putters in 1959, and in 1967 quit his engineering job at General Electric to develop PING. The name PING came from the sound of the golf ball hitting the metal club. John grew up in the garage with his father Karsten, making these infamous putters and as the company flourished John became primarily involved in product development and spearheaded the organization's relationship with the USGA. In 1995 John became CEO and Chairman of the company. Now, John's three sons have taken executive responsibility in the company, including John K. Solheim, who you'll hear from in this episode.   John and John K join me today to discuss what it's like running one of the largest companies in the golf world and how family dynamics have always played a role in the companies structure.
