Recent studies have confirmed that the constant presence and use of tech in our lives have become a hazard to our well-being on multiple levels. Meditation teacher, mindful tech designer, and self-identified tech lover Jay Vidyarthi observes, “It's okay to enjoy technology. Tech becomes a problem when we get so attached to it that our lives fall out of balance—and this happens because a certain device or app or game or even your work email might satisfy a specific, lacking, healthy emotional need.” So how do we mindfully hold that tension and seek balance in our relationship to technology? In today's meditation, Jay leads us through a contemplative practice that can help us dig down and understand our motivations for using tech, while also identifying ways to be more intentional about the why, how, and when of our digital consumption. In this episode of Stronger Sales Teams, host Ben Wright engages with Mike Latch to explore the complexities involved in establishing an effective sales process and the role of technology in business scaling. Emphasising the importance of integrating a structured sales process with technology, Mike presents straightforward strategies that are accessible for businesses of all sizes. The conversation underscores the significance of onboarding programmes, scalable processes, and the strategic utilisation of technological solutions to bolster performance rather than impede it. Drawing from his extensive technical expertise, Mike offers practical guidance on managing sales teams, illustrating how well-defined sales processes can transform even large sales teams into efficient, revenue-generating entities without sacrificing quality.About the Guest:Mike Latch is the CEO and co-founder of Patter AI, an innovative sales enablement technology firm located in the United States. With more than 20 years of experience in both technical and sales domains, Mike possesses a diverse background that includes electrical engineering, physics, and strategic sales. His distinctive combination of skills was instrumental in scaling his previous venture from $50 million to over $1 billion in revenue, culminating in its acquisition by ADT. Furthermore, Mike is a co-author of the book titled “Sales Sucks”. https://www.salessucksbook.com/ Key Takeaways: A small sales team should focus on hiring skilled individuals, while a larger sales force requires robust processes to ensure consistency and scalability. Technology integration should focus on solving specific problems or seizing opportunities rather than simply implementing tools without clear purposes. Clear, well-crafted onboarding programs and well-defined sales processes can dramatically reduce onboarding times and improve overall sales team performance. Mike emphasises the power of consultative sales processes that leverage storytelling to help customers better understand and engage with offerings. Strategic use of tech in sales calls can enable average sales reps to effectively handle complex objections and close more deals. Our guest this week is Tom Nally, who's recently launched Tax Now to help taxpayers and their professionals navigate this landscape. The platform syncs up with the IRS database and simply notifies you when there are updates to your account. It's a sorely needed tool, and Tom walks us through what he's built and how the launch has gone. Ep. 160 D'Seanté Parks is founder and CEO of 1000 MORE, an app that makes it easier for people from underrepresented communities, like the ones she's from, to engage in politics — a topic that is super important to everyone's well-being and growth but often difficult to participate in. Her app provides digestible nonpartisan summaries of legislation coming up for a vote, written in a way that doesn't require a law degree to understand. You can also find the popular arguments for and against bills. It also helps you connect with elected officials, and participate in crowdfunding campaigns for organizations you care about. On this episode, D'Seanté speaks with AfroTech's Will Lucas about how to leverage technology for political change, building community and wealth simultaneously, and the underutilized power of each engaged citizen. This week Yanni and co-host Charlie chat with Sam Renouf, CEO of the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO). Sam joined the organisation in 2019 has been central to the organisation's strategy and development since. We kick off the conversation by setting the scene, with Sam discussing the inception and evolution of PTO, including its recent partnership with World Triathlon. He digs into the organisation's goal of becoming a more consumer-facing brand with its T100 Triathlon World Tour and outlines the strategies for growing a sustainable fan base for triathlon. "It's taken us a couple of years to figure out the right model. But we think that in the T100 we have something unique," he says. "We're like the PGA Tour from a governance structure because we've got the athletes and the pros. We're Formula One with this season long narrative with glamorous locations. And we're the World Marathon Majors with the mass participation. So really it's super exciting." We were keen to chat with Sam about the role technology plays in the roadmap for the T100 series. Tech, Sam explains, will be baked into almost every element of the series – from its broadcast and commentary, to the sponsorship proposition and management of mass participation rankings. Sam also mapped out the PTO's funding model, with the likes of Michael Moritz as a lead investor, alongside Warner Bros. Discovery. And with the prospect of the organisation securing further funding to accelerate the growth of the T100, it's going to be a fascinating journey to watch. Timestamps: 10:46 – Evolution of PTO's business model 25:11 – Importance of technology and investment from Warner Bros. Last week, Aya Contigo, its digital companion for abortion and contraception support that launched in Venezuela and has since expanded to the United States, was a winner of South by Southwest's Innovation Showcase. Dr. Roopan Gill, co-founder and CEO of Vitala Global Foundation, was in Austin, Texas, to talk about the role technology can play in providing more accessible reproductive health resources, especially amidst growing restrictions on reproductive rights. “It's not just an app providing passive information,” she said. “We're really trying to see how it acts as a glue, as an ecosystem integrator, especially in this day and age where we have so much complexity around abortion access.” Gill spoke with Devex for Devex @ SXSW, a special edition of our This Week in Global Development podcast. The episode also featured Jarone Lee, co-founder of Health Tech Without Borders, a nonprofit organization working on digital health solutions, including telemedicine and chatbots, in the context of humanitarian disasters. Listen to the podcast to hear how these two doctors turned social entrepreneurs are leveraging technology to improve health care access in some of the most challenging settings to deliver care.

With global waste projected to rise 70% by 2050, we're facing a trash avalanche of epic proportions. So how do we stop our cities from being buried in waste? Studio Sponsor: Cardio Miracle - "The finest heart and health supplement in the world!": https://www.briannicholsshow.com/heart On this episode of The Brian Nichols Show, Brian digs deep with pioneering waste data expert Electra Coutsoftides, CEO of waste solutions firm X Works, on how data analytics can help propel cities toward a zero-waste future. They explore the overlooked world of global waste trading, where recyclables and waste commodities are imported and exported on a massive scale that will shock you. Electra explains how the EU is demanding digital passports to track waste origins and destinations. X Works provides software to meet these emerging regulations. Their platform also uses AI to analyze images of waste and identify mismatches between claimed and actual materials. This mitigates illegal dumping by verifying credibility along the supply chain. A key threat they are combatting is waste trading scams that cost companies huge sums of money. Scammers promise access to waste materials in exchange for large upfront deposits, then disappear with the cash. X Works certification and verification protects traders. This transparency and accountability will be crucial for managing the waste crisis ahead. Looking locally, Electra discusses X Works partnerships with US logistics firms to bring their waste-tracking solutions stateside. With Brian's firsthand view of overflowing trash in the streets of Philadelphia, it is clear smart waste policies are needed to avoid drowning in our own waste. X Works offers a technology-driven path ahead through the trash pileup projected in our collective future.
