Doing something is.Paula Ramirez co-founder of Breathe International, an International NGO combining Peace-building + Mindfulness walks us thru how growing up in an armed conflict, studying anthropology and experiencing an auto-immune illness led her to be curious about ways in which human beings can build peace from within, and how resilience and healing could be inspired and guided through the body.Paula has worked closely with teachers and survivors of torture, gender-based violence and landmines in Colombia, South Sudan and Bangladesh. She teaches trauma-informed MBSR and mindfulness-based interventions in these contexts.     Rev.Dr. Masaki Matsubara was born into and grew up in a Zen temple family in Japan. Following his Zen monastic training, he earned a PhD in Asian religions from Cornell University. He taught Buddhist studies and East Asian languages and cultures, as well as religious studies, at UC Berkeley and was the BDK Fellow at the Ho Center for Buddhist Studies at Stanford University. He is a research associate at the Contemplative Studies Initiative at Brown University. He is the head priest of Butsumoji Zen Temple, supervising the nearby affiliated International Zen Center in Japan and traveling between the States and Japan to lead retreats and seminars. He has published 3 books in Japanese and is writing a new one in English. Rev.Dr. Masaki has been self-quarantined for the past 20 days in New York City and reports that making his morning coffee and connecting with friends are some of the happiest moments of the day. In this show, Masaki teaches us his top tips for managing our mind and emotions in difficult times.
