In this New Years episode, our hosts Hélène Faussart and Iota Vanne discuss the yellow vest (les gilets jaunes) phenomenon in France: What can the world learn from them, and what has this movement gained after weeks of protests? We also discuss the unjust arrest of Jazmine Headley, and why activists are asking Disney to relinquish it’s trademark of the Swahili phrase Hakuna Matata. Finally, why are the super rich buying up aquifers, and are cryptocurrencies the key to Africa’s true economic freedom? *THE REBEL SISTERS TEAM* Hosts: Hélène Faussart; Iota Vanne Executive / Podcast Producer: Hélène Faussart Co- Producer: Iota Vanne Recording Engineer / Editing: Najee-Zaid Editorial / Marketing: Iota Vanne Theme & Narrative Music: Najee-Zaid Original Logo Concept: James Tener Artwork / Social: Iota Vanne ©2019 Rebel Sisters Podcast - All Rights Reserved

You might already use your fingerprint to unlock your phone...but what other private information would you share to make your life more convenient? In Sweden, thousands of people are microchipping themselves voluntarily. In China, facial recognition is used so that shoppers can avoid the cash register. And in the United States of America, students give plasma to pay for their books, while Silicon valley vampire oligarchs are infusing themselves with the blood of teenagers. In this episode, our hosts Hélène Faussart and Iota Vanne discuss the latest headlines coming out of the tech industry, and why there is is no such thing as privacy… even when it comes to your DNA. We also talk about Halloween in America, cultural appropriation, and if whiteface is a thing. *THE REBEL SISTERS TEAM* Hosts: Hélène Faussart; Iota Vanne Executive / Podcast Producer: Hélène Faussart Co- Producer: Iota Vanne Recording Engineer / Editing: Najee-Zaid Editorial / Marketing: Iota Vanne Theme & Narrative Music: Najee-Zaid Original Logo Concept: James Tener Artwork / Social: Iota Vanne ©2018 Rebel Sisters Podcast - All Rights Reserved

Why did France remove the word race from the Constitution?

So…The French parliament has voted unanimously for the removal of the word race from their constitution. Out of the 577 representatives, there are over 30 that are from the African Diaspora. All this, just after their soccer team won the World Cup and everyone from Barack Obama to Trevor Noah dragged them publicly? Quelle horreur! The Rebel Sisters team is back in the lab again to discuss why France is so hard to understand for African Americans. This time we have backup! Our expert guest, Dr. Maboula Soumahoro, is an assistant Professor at the Université François-Rabelais, Co-Founder / President of the French Black History Month Association in France, and a frequent guest on French National TV. During our second episode, we discuss France’s history of Colonialism and Slavery, why French people love Rihanna, and why there is no such thing as “the black neighborhood” in France. Does the French team have you dreaming of escaping to Paris this summer?…We feel you. If you are like us, you are probably still recovering from the amazing 2018 World Cup victory of Les Bleus. But let's not forget how this summer got HOT! Beyoncé and Jay-Z dropped a clip magnifique in the Louvre, and Virgil Abloh wowed us with the Louis Vuitton Spring / Summer 2019 collection. So, with all of this black excellence à la Française on display..France is once again looking like Disneyland for Black folks, right? Not exactly. As Daily Show host Trevor Noah and others have pointed out...it’s a bit more complicated than that. In this debut episode of Rebel Sisters Podcast, Nig**s in Paris, hosts Hélène Faussart from the group Les Nubians and friend Iota Vanne ask: Why do African Americans love Paris so much to begin with? And what is different about the black experience in France versus the USA?
