It's been a pretty unsettling first half of 2025 on a geopolitical level, and the regional outcomes are creeping but still uncertain. Against this backdrop, South East Asian airports have remained busy - but structural and cyclical challenges for travel economies are emerging. So, what do the events of January-June tell us about the rest of 2025 and into 2026? This week, Gary and Hannah assess the 10 top takeaways in the year so far. The regional rewind looks at Singapore's capacity to do things differently, Thailand's China-shaped hole in its visitor arrivals, mixed outcomes in Malaysia, a domestic travel downturn in Indonesia and the undisputed ASEAN success story of Vietnam. Plus, we travel to China, the Middle East and Central Asia, look at shifting geographies for LCCs, regulatory scrutiny for OTAs and nominee travel businesses - and examine the outlook over the coming years of a much closer conjunction of the Lunar New Year and Eid-al-Fitr travel periods (especially in 2028).

Tonya Leigh explores the importance of taking a pause to realign and reinvigorate oneself. Tonya shares her personal journey from a state of misalignment to feeling inspired and expansive about the future. She emphasizes the significance of staying committed to oneself during tough times and being curious about one's emotions. Tune in live every other week for unscripted thoughts on the major China-related news of the week. This week, we focused on the truce in the trade war that Donald Trump launched with the so-called "Liberation Day" tariffs of April 9. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer met with top Chinese trade negotiator He Lifeng and his team in Geneva over the weekend, and we look at what came out of those meetings and what we can expect to happen next. We also discussed the dogfight that took place between India and Pakistan last week, in which the Pakistani air force claims to have downed as many as five Indian planes, significant for China because the Pakistani planes were Chinese-made J10-C fighters. Eric, who wrote about the Chinese reaction to this and offered his take on the reasons for their success, managed to incur a lot of online Indian wrath — an occupational hazard — but presents a compelling case for why the fully integrated Chinese military systems gave Pakistan the edge.Watch us live on YouTube starting May 28th. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation to discuss several Buffalo Bills and NFL topics, including a look at eight pretty significant talking points about the Buffalo Bills from last season that Patrick feels have mostly flown under the radar.Josh Allen finally won his first MVP and firmly established himself as one of the faces of the league. The Bills again fell short in their quest for a Super Bowl appearance after losing to Kansas City in the playoffs, again. Brandon Beane spent heavily on the defense and clearly let everyone know he feels about the wide receiver position. These and some others are predominant talking points that've remained as such over the past few months. But there's some things from season, both good and bad that are still tugging at Patrick a little bit that he wants to discuss with Matt. Among them is an incredible offensive line that played a huge role in Allen getting sacked just 14 times in 17 games. There's also the absolute Buffalo dominance of the AFC east, evidenced by their 24-6 record against the division over their last 30 games. Also, Dorian Williams took a major step in his second year at linebacker, to the point Patrick feels solid about him if he has to start again.Conversely, Patrick thinks offensive coordinator Joe Brady has been let off the hook a little bit despite his play calling meltdown in the AFC title game. Also, Brandon Beane's offseason defensive line additions crop was generally pretty lousy.Plus, some NFL schedule news as of this recording, media news surrounding two icons of the football broadcasting industry, audio vs video for podcasting and much more. You can follow Matt on Twitter @MattRichWarren and be sure to check out Buffalo Rumblingsfor your (really good) daily Bills content.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. However, as discussed in the podcast episode, true success, or "elegant success," is fundamentally about creating a life that aligns with your personal values and brings genuine satisfaction.
