BECOMING NOBODY represents the core arc of Ram Dass’ teachings and life: whether as Dr. Richard Alpert, the eminent Harvard psychologist, or as Ram Dass who serves as a bridge between Eastern and Western philosophies, he has defined a generation of inner explorers and seekers of truth and wisdom. Through his turns as scion of an eminent Jewish family from Boston, rock-star Harvard psychologist, counter-culture rascally adventurer, Eastern holy man, stroke survivor and compassionate caregiver, Ram Dass has worn many hats on his journey, the narrative of which is revealed in this film. His ability to entertain and his sense of humor are abundantly evident in a conversation that brings us around to address the vast question of ultimate freedom. In BECOMING NOBODY, historic clips balance an engaging conversation with director Jamie Catto. We come to understand how our old roles and disguises become increasingly burdensome. The film captures a loving man full of joy, wit, honesty and wisdom, at ease in conversation while sharing his considerable pains and pleasures. The life experiences that have freed him from the attachments of his ‘somebody-ness’ have transformed him into the radiant soul who now inspires a new generation. Producer Raghu Markus joins us to talk about the life and times of Ram Dass, his transformation from Richard Alpert and what it means to love, serve, remember. About the Producer - Raghu Markus: Raghu Markus spent two years in India with Maharaj-ji and Ram Dass. He has been involved in music and transformational media since the early 1970s when he was program director of CKGM-FM in Montreal. In 1974 he collaborated with Ram Dass on the box set Love Serve Remember. In 1990, he launched Triloka Records and Karuna Music in Los Angeles, California. What do you do when you're running a rock music station and having a good ol' time up in Montreal and suddenly you hear someone on tape filled with this bizarrely overwhelming vibration of love and peace and light that you can only describe it as feeling finally "at home"? Simple. Devote your life to their practice.   It's worked out pretty well for Raghu Markus. After meeting Ram Dass in the late 1960s, he went on to spend years in India with him and their spiritual guide, Neem Karoli Baba Maharaji. These last decades have been filled with music and transformational media, having launched Triloka Records and Karuna Music, which included such artists as Krishna Das, Hugh Masekela, Walela, and Jai Uttal. Media projects have featured Ram Dass, Deepak Chopra, and Les Nubians.    Currently the executive director of of Ram Dass's Love Serve Remember Foundation, Raghu Markus also co-hosts the podcast "Mindrolling" on the Mindpod Network, which he helped to create. Listen to them. Learn some truth!   But first, hear him break down the path to all things in Episode 36!

Samuel Bazawule AKA Blitz the Ambassador Hip-hop was the soundtrack for Samuel Bazawule growing up in Accra, Ghana; later, it gave him his own voice; today, performing as Blitz the Ambassador, he is using hip-hop to “give others a voice.” Blitz began his music theory “training” by memorizing raps and studying the masters Chuck D. (front man for Public Enemy), Rakim, and KRS-One. He immigrated, in 2001, and earned degrees, in business management and marketing. Blitz has released two full-length albums, Stereotype(2009) and Native Sun (2011); as visual accompaniment to the latter, he wrote and co-directed a short film of the same name, which he calls “a true representation of who I am.” Filmed in Ghana and scored with music from the album, it follows the wanderings of an orphan boy as he learns to be the master of his fate.  His musical collaborations include those with Grammy Award-nominated duo Les Nubians, JUNO Award-winning Shad, and Chuck D.. His proudest achievement, though, was the homecoming concert he performed with his full band in Accra in 2011, ten years after he left. Blitz has been hailed by Rolling Stone as “the future of African music.” WEBSITE: http://blitz.mvmt.com/ He is the recipient of a 2013 Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in Contemporary Music The Vilcek Foundation aims to raise public awareness of the contributions of immigrants to the sciences, arts, and culture in the United States. The Foundation was established in 2000 by Jan and Marica Vilcek, immigrants from the former Czechoslovakia. http://www.vilcek.org

The Sensation Kim Hill, former vocalist of Black Eyed Peas debut New Music  During her tenure with the Peas, Kim began to grow artistically as a producer and writer, which captured the attention of executives at Interscope Records with whom she was signed to in 1998 off of a five song, four track demo she produced in her apartment. But it was no surprise to Kim when she was dropped by Interscope in 1999 out of fear that her, "music wasn't black enough." The release from Interscope was a God send and provided the ammunition for Kim's first independent solo release, Surrender to Her Sunflower in 2000. The LA Weekly praised the debut by saying, "Hill's Surrender to Her Sunflower is a testament to her marvelous vocal and song writing talent... the album features the singer's dexterous soprano gliding across a song expanse of laid-back, sensuous soul." The video for "Sunshine" featured appearances from Les Nubians and appeared in regular rotation on MTV Europe and BET which Kim produced and co-directed. Before she knew it, the young girl who traveled to Los Angeles with $36 in her pocket was rocking packed houses, such as SOB's in New York and the Viper Room in Los Angeles.

Special Guest: Gregory Koutrouby, dcoumentarian of artists. A Thousand Stories is a continuously moving documentary through which writer Gregory Koutrouby shares his conversations with artists. Celebrating its four-year anniversary this month, A Thousand Stories features artists who, despite their brilliance, are often overlooked. A strong advocate of the arts as a source of inspiration and a native New Yorker, Gregory has shared conversations with artists of many disciplines, including the francophone R&B duo Les Nubians, pop-surrealist painter Martin Wittfooth, and Latin Grammy award-winning vocalist Susana Baca, and continues his search for the most brilliant artists whose voices must be heard. www.athousandstories.com http://www.facebook.com/athousandstories
