Welcome to Sometimes in Shambles, the mental health podcast. I’m Melissa, your host, and this is where I talk about all my personal experiences with mental illness. I have anxiety, depression, and recently, some PTSD. My hope is that through sharing my experiences such as leaving the mormon church, breaking up with friends, some isolation in college, therapy and a lot of other experiences, I can let you know that you’re not alone in your own mental health journey and a lot of us face the same challenges and feelings. Join me in talking about all these personal experiences and help spread the word that no one is alone, especially when it comes to mental illness.
I finally feel like I'm in a good place (my therapist thinks so too) and am just going with the flow in all parts of my life. I wanted to update everyone on what I've been up to while the show took a small, unintentional hiatus. In the first half of this episode, I talk about hobbies and things I've been doing in quarantine, and in the second half, I talk about how I've been working on my communication skills to strengthen my relationships and self.
I talk through my recent experience of comparing the things I love to do to other people who do the same things as me. The struggle becomes more real in quarantine where doing the things you love matters most.
I'm talking about social distancing with COVOID-19 out and about in the world. Personally, I'm scared of my depression acting up while social distancing. This episode will give you some tips and ideas for how to keep your mental health afloat while in quarantine, if you will.
I sat down with my friend Jake who was raised in my home ward of the Mormon Religion while knowing he was gay since age 4. Jake talks about his experiences with discovering his sexuality at a young age, his struggle with the church in this regard and also his family life during this time. Part 1/3 of his story.
Pulling this episode from the archives of last year. I do another Tarot and a Show episode on Hulu's Ramy. Ramy has a lot of similarities to what I experienced in the Mormon Church and I feel it is very relatable. I try not to give any "spoilers" but do talk about some of the episodes.
It's a New Year! I talk about my last 10 years as a human, my accomplishments, struggles, challenges and new goals and dreams moving forward.
I've been struggling a lot with my self confidence in podcasting lately so this episode was released the way it was to prove to myself that I can let go. I recorded this episode almost four months prior to releasing it and is a reminder to myself of how much I've grown. In this episode I talk about all the reasons why Instagram gives me anxiety and why I took a break from it.
I asked some questions via Instagram all about social media and on this episode of Sometimes in Shambles, I read your answers to those questions in preparation for the next episode where I talk about my break from Instagram and how it did wonders for my mental health.
Season 2 is starting off with my tips for supporting your mental health. In this episode, I give all of my tips and tricks I do to keep my mental health on track and avoid the lows before they happen. Try out some of these things and let me know if they work for you!
I'm back! Season 2 is just around the corner and I'm super excited to jump in. Listen here for announcements of what I've been up to the last 4 months and what's to come.
The last episode in Season 1! I simply made a list of things that make me happy to get out of my depression lull and I read it to you guys. Make your own list of happy and share it with me!
