Welcome to stuff I want to say. It's a podcast that pretty much functions as the external process of my own brain and life as I pastor in North Louisiana. In this episode I talk with my friend Rev. Aaron Mansfield, the person I consider my pastor. We talk about a lot of different things, many of the around the idea of reading the Bible. In this episode we talk about a bunch of stuff. Some of it includes: Ministry in the Northside of Lexington, Kentucky. Letting your kid Flair Chop another pastor. An odd reason to wear a clergy collar. People filled with the Holy Spirit. BIble reading plans. Writing a Master's thesis on preaching Revelation while keeping crack heads out of the clothes closet. When you decide to read the Bible as fast as you can. Why you need to skim the Bible. Bible translations. Why just reading for time works best. It was great to have Aaron come on the podcast. I have been wanting to do this conversation for a long time. I'm still thinking of doing a faster read. I just wrapped up my chronological read of the Apostle Paul and I am extremely glad I did it.  My Stuff Only One Bible: Why I'm ditching nearly all my bibles in 2020 (video) Mentioned 90 Day Bible reading plan 30 Day Bible Shred

JR Forasteros and the origins of the Devil

Stuff I want to say is a *hopeful weekly show in which I share stuff I want to say. Sounds simple...right? One of the things I have been excited about since the beginning of this new show is sharing conversations with friends that I think have something to share. My buddy JR Forasteros is the author of the fantastic book Empathy for the Devil. Last year, after preaching a sermon about the devil, I had JR on another podcast to talk about his book and some of the ways he feels we learn from the stories of villains in the bible. I wanted to replay it for you here on SIWTS. My favorite part of this conversation is the one where he talks about a Biblical Theology of the Devil, and discerning the who, what, where and why from the tiny bits and pieces we have learned about him in the scriptures. Links JR Forasteros Empathy For The Devil (Amazon Link) * I hope to make this weekly, but let's just call it a hope.
