We often find ourselves stuck in our own stories: stories of defeat, stories of pain, stories of discouragement. But when we worship, we're thrust back into God's story. All of a sudden, our stories are re-contextualized and we see our stories in light of God's grander story. This week, we study the Passover festival and learn how we can worship today.
Did you know that the Lord God only approved of two kinds of altars? In this episode, Dr. Bruce Becker examines the natural altars on which sacrifices were made to the one, true God in the Old Testament. If you enjoy this podcast and make it a regular part of your week, would you consider helping us with your support? God pours out His life, provision, and Spirit into us. The problem is, we are a people who leak. We are like broken cisterns, that cannot overflow into others. This week, we look at Pentecost and see how it informs the way we are called to worship today.
The Significance of the Altar The word "altar" (A-L-T-A-R) and "altered" (A-L-T-E-R) are homophones, highlighting the connection between going to the altar and being changed. Altar (A-L-T-A-R) is a place for prayer. Altered (A-L-T-E-R) means to edit or change. Hebrews 13:8-15 was referenced. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hearts should be established with grace, not with meats. Christ suffered without the gate to sanctify the people. Offer a sacrifice of praise continually, giving thanks to God's name. Altars in Genesis and the Importance of Thanksgiving Altars are mentioned 10 times in Genesis. Cain and Abel had to have an altar for their sacrifices, even though it's not explicitly stated. The altar is not being used properly or enough today. Noah offered a sacrifice for thanksgiving after the flood. The altar should be used more for giving thanks and seeking God. A reminder is needed to pray more and offer intentional thanksgiving and prayer to God. Time should be spent seeking God instead of other things. The Anointing and Being with Jesus Everyone wants the anointing, which is the presence of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit empowers witnessing and sharing what God has done in one's life. The Holy Spirit works through those who spend time with God. People should be known for having been with Jesus. The impact of one's presence should leave behind the presence of God. Like John the Baptist, one must decrease so that God may increase. Cain and Abel: Attitudes Towards God Cain and Abel's story illustrates the importance of proper motivation and attitude towards God. Cain's offering was rejected because he knew God but did not glorify Him. Abel offered a sacrifice with gratitude and dependence on God. Abel knew he had nothing good to offer. Abel's sacrifice was acceptable because of his attitude. Noah: Faithfulness and Salvation Noah preached for 120 years while building the ark. Noah's story is one of enduring hardship and trusting in God. Noah was saved, and his children were saved with him. Noah had access to God. Access to God and the Altar Born of incorruptible seed, believers have access to the throne of God for prayer, thanksgiving, and supplication. Even the smallest concerns can be brought to God. God cares deeply for His people. The altar in the Old Testament was a place where God encountered man. The Holy Spirit is the glory of God living inside believers. The encounter with God at the altar brings relief, deliverance, and the kingdom of God. Old things pass away, and all things become new. The Purpose of Altars and Offerings Altars were places of burnt offerings (Noah) and offerings for sin (Cain and Abel). Cain and Abel knew what had been lost through their parents' sin. There are many unanswered questions about the early world. Focus should be on holiness, love, and seeking things above. Directions from God are pinpointed and laser-beam guiding. Prayer and Warfare Revelation speaks of an altar where the prayers of the saints ascend to God. Jacob built an altar after encountering God and seeing angels ascending and descending. Angels do the bidding and work of God. Each person has an angel that beholds their face in the presence of God. Engage in warfare against discord, which has infiltrated the house of God. Thoughts and imaginations that oppose God's love should be pulled down. Everything should be brought before the Lord in prayer. If you think you don't have anything to pray about, you are deceived. Some people are not praying or seeking God's kingdom. Trouble, heartache, pain, and suffering are inevitable. Guilt, shame, and other negative emotions separate people from God. Relationship with God vs. Works Some people do things in the house of God without a relationship with God. God hears every prayer,

Podcast Review: “Between Demons and Despair: A Journey Through Extreme Metal” – The True Metal SchifterIn this episode of The True Metal Schifter, Daniel Schifter takes listeners on a dark and intense journey through extreme metal. The episode masterfully explores two seminal forces in the genre.Death Metal – Morbid Angel: Starting in the rotting basements of Tampa, Florida, Morbid Angel redefined death metal with Altars of Madness, blending speed, technical precision, and demonic atmospheres. From their early days to later works like Blessed Are the Sick and Covenant, the band set a standard for brutality while influencing generations of metal musicians.Depressive Black Metal – Shining: From the frozen landscapes of Sweden, Shining, led by Niklas Kvarforth, dives into despair and emotional extremity. Albums like V: Halmstad and VII: Född Förlorare showcase melancholic guitars, raw vocals, and experimental textures, creating music as much about introspection and self-destruction as darkness itself. Conclusion: Schifter draws a powerful connection between these two extremes: technical, demonic brutality and introspective, depressive intensity. The episode reminds listeners that extreme metal encompasses both violence and vulnerability, united by a shared darkness.TheTrueMetalSchifter #ExtremeMetal #DeathMetal #MorbidAngel #BlackMetal #DepressiveBlackMetal #Shining #MetalPodcast #MetalHistory #DarkMusic #HeavyMetal #MetalCommunity #UndergroundMetal #MetalJourney
Throughout Scripture, men and women built altars as places of encounter surrender and remembrance. Platforms host people but altars host the presence of God. Altars are where fire falls. They are not built for display but for dwelling. The invitation is simple: make room again. Rebuild what has been neglected. Offer your life as a living sacrifice. Let the altar of your heart never go out. In this eye-opening episode, I welcome back SRA survivor and truth-teller Jessie Czebotar to dive deeper into two heavily requested topics: Kabbalah and Charismatic Churches. After the overwhelming response to our previous conversations, we revisit Kabbalah with greater depth—examining its spiritual implications, esoteric roots, and how it's been quietly woven into religious and institutional systems. We also explore the world of Charismatic Christianity: are modern worship experiences being hijacked by emotional manipulation, frequencies, or architecture designed to open spiritual doors? From sound, rhythm, and church design to false manifestations of the Spirit, this conversation goes deep into what many believers are sensing—but few are talking about.Whether you're questioning what you've experienced in certain church environments or you're beginning to see patterns that don't line up with Scripture, this conversation brings discernment and clarity.**Trigger Warning:** This episode discusses themes related to spiritual abuse, deception in religious systems, and SRA trauma. God loves reconciliation. When we show mercy and grace to one another, the same way God has shown them to us, that's worship. This week, we study the Day of Atonement, an ancient festival that teaches us how to worship God through apology and absolution.
Our series brings us to a pivotal moment for Gideon where he confronts his father & the idols in his household.

How often do we stop working, and make time to look back and thank God for all He's done? The Feast of Trumpets was an opportunity for the people of God to express their worship through recognition and reliance: recognizing God's faithfulness in the previous year, and relying on God's faithfulness in the upcoming year. This week, we explore how we can express this worship of gratitude annually, monthly, weekly, and daily.

This week, we study the Festival of Tabernacles and learn how we can worship God today through hospitality.

ALTARS NOT PLATFORMS Stewards of the Kingdom 8.10.25 We live in a world that craves a platform, but the gospel of Jesus Christ calls us to an altar. Clearing By Martha Postlethwaite Do not try to save the whole world or do anything grandiose. Instead, create a clearing in the dense forest of your life and wait there patiently, until the song that is your life falls into your own cupped hands and you recognize and greet it. Only then will you know how to give yourself to this world so worthy of rescue. Romans 16:3–5 Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my co-workers in Christ Jesus. 4 They risked their lives for me. Not only I but all the churches of the Gentiles are grateful to them. Greet also the church that meets at their house. 2 Timothy 4:19 Greet Priscilla and Aquila and the household of Onesiphorus. The Marks of Kingdom Stewards (from the life of Priscilla and Aquila) Radical hospitality Faithful partnership Quiet influence Sacrificial living Open-handed generosity Kingdom stewardship Kingdom stewardship is living in full submission to King Jesus, faithfully managing everything He has entrusted to us so that His purposes are fulfilled through our lives. Being good stewards in the kingdom of God: Jesus is the King. The King establishes how His people live. We can choose to accept or reject His rule. To follow His way is to live in His kingdom. To reject His way is to live outside His kingdom. As stewards, we carry His rule (kingdom) into every sphere of life. Why did Jesus talk about money and stewardship so much? Because money reveals the heart Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Because the love of money is a major stronghold 1 Timothy 6:6-10 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9 Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. Basics of Kingdom Stewardship: Everything belongs to God. I'm a temporary manager of what He's entrusted to me. One day, I will give an account. Extravagant Generosity: when you become so overcome by grace and undeserved love, you lavishly reorient your life around giving and Kingdom impact
In this powerful message from Deuteronomy 6, Pastor Seth Waters shares his journey from brokenness and addiction to leading a vibrant church in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. With raw honesty and biblical insight, he unpacks what “altars” really are—both the ones God calls us to build and the false ones we've unknowingly erected in our lives. From Moses' charge to the Israelites, to lessons from the book of Acts, to tearing down generational strongholds like Gideon, this sermon calls believers to: • Identify the altars in their own lives • Tear down false altars of fear, finances, worldliness, and distraction • Build intentional memorials of God's faithfulness for the next generation If you've ever felt stuck, distant from God, or unsure how to pass your faith on to your children, this message will challenge and inspire you to let God be at your core.
This is a message from Sarah Khiroya as she reflects on the power of sacred spaces and the importance of stewarding them in our lives. Discover how altars, representing divine encounters and moments of deep spiritual significance, connect the divine with the human realm. This particular Sunday's reading from Hebrews presented us with the classic definition of faith. Can you call it to mind? Faith is far more than a feeling. Scripture labels as faith a thing or ability that “sees” a long, long way beyond what human senses can confirm in the moment. In other words, it's Holy Spirit-inspired perceiving/believing. Language fails, but somehow faith is a thing you can stand on and trust that you won't fall, but at the same time it's a super sense can gaze far into the unknown. That's what the ancients were commended for. They never received the promised made to them while living, but they still saw them way off in the distance and waved at them. Waiving at the future. What faith! Do you have the faith to wave at the future God has prepared for you? Join us!
We imagine spiritual maturity as the need to confess less. But it's actually the opposite. Spiritual maturity means more confession, not less. This week, we study the Festival of Unleavened Bread, as we continue learning about the different expressions of worship we can bring before God at the altar.

What do we do when we’re walking through spiritual wilderness—those dry, difficult seasons that test our faith and strip us of comfort? In this moving devotional, Megan J. Conner invites us to consider what it means to build altars in the wilderness—not as monuments to our victories, but as places of sacrifice, surrender, and transformation. Drawing from Genesis 22 and the powerful story of Abraham and Isaac, this episode explores the sacred difference between memorials and altars, and how God uses wilderness moments to draw us deeper into trust, humility, and full dependence on Him. If you’re feeling lost, weary, or stretched beyond your limits, this is a tender reminder that God meets us in the wilderness, and often calls us to lay down what’s most precious so that new life can rise. Altars, Not Platforms The Ministry of the Ordinary 8.3.25 God isn't asking you to be famous, he's asking you to be faithful. God isn't calling you to build a platform, he's calling you to surrender. Acts 18:1-3 After this, Paul left Athens and went to Corinth. 2 There he met a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had ordered all Jews to leave Rome. Paul went to see them, 3 and because he was a tentmaker as they were, he stayed and worked with them. Acts 18:18-19 Paul stayed on in Corinth for some time. Then he left the brothers and sisters and sailed for Syria, accompanied by Priscilla and Aquila. Before he sailed, he had his hair cut off at Cenchreae because of a vow he had taken. 19 They arrived at Ephesus, where Paul left Priscilla and Aquila. He himself went into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews. Acts 18:24-26 Meanwhile a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was a learned man, with a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures. 25 He had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and he spoke with great fervor and taught about Jesus accurately, though he knew only the baptism of John. 26 He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately. God's kingdom moves forward when ordinary, everyday people surrender what they have to God through the power of the Holy Spirit. Acts 4:13 When they (the Jewish rulers, elders, & teachers of the law) saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. Philippians 3:7-11 But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. 10 I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead. Philippians 3:10-11 (New Revised American Dream Version) I want to know Christ – yes, but not so much that it interrupts my current life or plans. I want to participate in the sufferings of Christ, but I would like those sufferings to be limited to things I can fully manage and comprehend. And yes, I would like to become like Christ in his death, but I would prefer to experience resurrection without crucifixion if possible. Perhaps the greatest deception of our generation is the belief that we can experience deep purpose and lasting joy without sacrifice and dying to ourselves first.
This is a message from Nick Khiroya which highlights the importance of Scripture in guiding and empowering us, as described in 2 Timothy 3:16. Nick shares the excitement of studying the book of Joshua in the Bible, the concept of spiritual altars, and the significance of leaving a legacy for future generations. He reminds us of the powerful transition from Moses to Joshua, and the call for each of us to be strong, courageous, and dedicated to God's word.If you would like to reach out or know more about Jesus, please visit curatechurch.com or email hello@curatechurch.com. For many of us, the Sunday worship gathering feels irrelevant or disconnected from the rest of the week. This leads to a passive engagement that places a bulk of the responsibility on spiritual leaders to feed us and stir us up to worship. But we find that God actually expects all of his people to show up, prepared with something to offer him. This week, we explore what kind of sacrifices God is longing for at the altar and how we can bring him our world in worship.
When conflict comes, seek peace like Abraham—by trusting God enough to take the humble road and let Him do the lifting.Invite and share this message with your family and friends and bless them with this great message. In this powerful message, Ps. Jonathan teaches on altars and high places—what they represent and how we ultimately tear down the high places, and build the altars of our hearts.
In this week's Leadership Lessons, we're invited to consider what it means to build altars to the Lord in our everyday lives. Drawing from 1 Kings 18, Pastor Layla Nahavandi challenges us to become modern-day Elijahs people marked by both public demonstrations of faith and private intimacy with God. This message reminds us that true spiritual authority is forged not only on platforms but in prayer closets. It's in the quiet places through consistent prayer, faith, and obedience that we build the kind of altars that attract heaven's fire. As we cultivate a lifestyle rooted in seeking God's presence, we prepare the ground for revival in our hearts and communities. Let this be a call to rebuild the secret place, knowing that what happens there empowers everything we do in the open.
