And when our marriages are healthier, your church is healthier.

In this episode, Trent and Greg talk about the importance of leading yourself emotionally as a pastor. In so many ways, emotional health is an indicator of our spiritual maturity and spiritual baseline. When we are emotionally healthy as pastors, it will come out in how we love others, relate to others, and lead others.
In this episode, Pastor Trent and Pastor Greg discuss the importance of being busy with our own spiritual growth. As pastors, we can hide behind our knowledge of the Bible, the busyness of our schedules, and our gift sets and personalities. This is a recipe for burnout. We need to always be busy about our own growth in order to also help others become disciple-makers.
In this episode, Pastor Trent and Pastor Greg discuss the importance of being busy defining your own personal WHY. When you define your WHY you begin to understand your calling, your DESIGN, and the assignments you can take our of your DESIGN to make disciples. In all things, we must start with WHY!
It's important to define the wins in your church or other people will define them for you. In other words, your wins are determined by the vision of your church in making disciples. This episode speaks to the importance of constantly defining your qualitative wins (not just the numbers), measuring your wins, and measuring the growth of your people. Defining your wins and celebrating your wins allows you to create the culture you desire in the life of your church.
In this episode, Pastor Trent and Pastor Greg discuss the importance of teaching your church their position. When we teach our church and help our church discover THEIR DESIGN, we begin to see people serve and lead in the right lane. This creates cultures of celebration, joy, and purpose in the work of the ministry.
In the world of leadership, pastors must do the hard work of knowing their leadership lane. In this episode, we look at the 5 leadership lanes that the Apostle Paul gives to pastors in Ephesians 4:11-12 (known as APEST Leadership). This episode speaks to the need for pastors to be self-aware, know their strengths, be honest about their weaknesses, and then build a team to be the most effective disciple-makers they can be.
The 1-sentence job description for every Christian is to make disciples. The 1-sentence job description for pastors it to equip Christians to make disciples. We are called to go from DOERS of the ministry to EQUIPPER of others for the ministry. The problem is that pastors are often in the wrong lane, and they do not have a good sense of how God has specifically designed them to be equippers. Because of this, we are often busy in the wrong lane and busy with the wrong things.
After spending 4-weeks discussing why many pastors are unhealthy, we look at the actual job description of the pastor from Ephesians 4:11-12. The job description of the pastor is to equip the saints for the work of ministry, but the Bible never tells us how to actually do that. In this episode, we encourage pastors to begin the journey of self-awareness to be able to lead in the right lane.
Pastors often work in such a way where the methods are just as important as the message. The message never changes, and the mission to make disciples (Matthew 28:18-20) never changes. However, we must realize that there is freedom in the methods. Pastors who are busy with the right things are asking the question, "What are the best methods I can use right now to make disciples?"
Pastors today are tired, burnt out, and stretched to their limits. Every single day there are opportunities to do good things, meet with people, start ministries, and more. Because of this, pastors are addicting to saying, "yes," and their calendars are slammed packed and at capacity. However, one of the best things that pastor's can say is, "not yet." In this episode, we talk about the "why" and the "how" of saying, "not yet."
When pastors think they are super heroes, they try to do all of the work themselves. Inevitably this means they have created an impossible job description that they can't keep up with. Because of this, pastors live with an immense amount of guilt. When your identity is in the work of ministry, and not in Christ, then you will be unhealthy and full of pastor guilt. It's time to get back to being busy with the right things that God has called us to do as pastors.
Pastors have impossible job descriptions and are expected to be super heroes. We think it's time to change the pastor's job description and get back to what the Bible says pastors should be doing. We are sick of pastors being unhealthy and quitting. We care about pastors and want them (and their families) to be healthy and happy. That's why we are launching The Busy Podcast.
