Pýtam sa, či je kvalita zahraničných hráčov v našej lige naozaj taká, že by im mladí Slováci nemohli konkurovať,” kladie otázku, ktorá rezonuje celým slovenským basketbalom.Karol Wimmer sa venoval aj problematike pozície rozohrávača, na ktorú muselo Slovensko naturalizovať hráčov zo zámoria. Vysvetľuje, že problém nie je len v technických zručnostiach, ale aj v charakterových črtách a líderskych schopnostiach, ktoré sa od mladých slovenských hráčov v nižších kategóriách dostatočne nevyžadujú.Zaujímavý je aj jeho pohľad na moderné trendy – od vplyvu sociálnych sietí na mladých hráčov cez obrovské finančné balíky v NCAA až po využívanie pokročilých technológií a dát v tréningovom procese. „Vymyslené je všetko, náš šport zaznamenal v silovej príprave a biomechanike obrovský pokrok,” vysvetľuje, ako sa sám vzdeláva.Na záver Karol Wimmer otvorene priznal, že minulý rok bol pre neho ťažký a uvažoval o konci. „Mal som dosť toho, čo sa dialo okolo, ale podarilo sa mi z toho vyhrabať,” hovorí o náročných momentoch v kariére.Rozhovor, ktorý moderuje Tomáš Kotlárik, poskytuje vzácny pohľad do práce človeka, ktorý formuje budúcnosť slovenského basketbalu a ktorého absolventi dnes hrajú aj na univerzitách v USA.

The critical watches and warnings issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) inform everything from a firefighter's deployment to wildfires to the public's beach plans. This information is powered by some of the most advanced computational infrastructure in the world. According to David Michaud, director of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction's Central Operations at the NWS, high-performance computing (HPC) is the indispensable foundation that turns raw atmospheric data into actionable public safety information. Michaud joined GovCast to discuss HPC and the IT systems accelerating science at NWS, including the service's operational supercomputers capable of calculating up to 14 quadrillion calculations per second. Michaud also talked about the burgeoning role of AI/ML in weather prediction. These new predictive models are not intended to replace the traditional NWP models, but to complement them.

EETech's Terra Gledhill in on this week's episode to share what sources these engineers trust, and what strategies marketers should emphasize in 2026. In this episode Wendy Covey sat down with Terra Gledhill, Director of Marketing and Research at EETech, to unpack findings from the 2025 Engineering Insights Report (EIR). Now in its ninth year, the EIR captures responses from more than 3,000 engineers across roles, industries, and experience levels, making it a great resource for industrial marketers as they plan their 2026 marketing strategy.A dominant theme in this year's report is the rapid rise of AI adoption. Among millennial and Gen Z engineers, usage of AI tools (including LLMs, code generation, and simulation) jumped from 45% to 64% year over year. Even seasoned career professionals saw a significant increase, from 20% to 46%. Terra explained that while younger engineers overwhelmingly see AI as a positive accelerator, seasoned engineers remain more cautious, emphasizing the need for regulation and security.The report also highlights major generational differences in research behavior. Communities and forums have become the top resource for Millennial and Gen Z  engineers, who seek out peer validation and authentic, real-world solutions. Career pros, however, still rely on manufacturer websites. Across all groups, engineers increasingly expect robust online tools such as CAD models, reference designs, and simulation resources directly on supplier websites.When it comes to challenges, both groups cite staying on schedule and on budget as their top concerns. But younger engineers struggle more with skill gaps on their teams, often inheriting outdated systems and incomplete documentation. A group of dedicated teens from Next Generation for Christ is making a difference in Kewanee by organizing free monthly community meals at First Christian Church, which are on the last Saturday of the month. Volunteers of all ages prepare and serve food, with donations in the form of cash, checks, or supplies eagerly accepted. Their efforts extend beyond meal service, as members personally deliver food to homebound individuals and those experiencing homelessness. Their efforts don't stop there; December will see a Christmas event offering crafts and fun for kids, while parents can enjoy a night out. They will need volunteers to assist in babysitting the children. Partnering closely with Matthew 5:42 Ministries, they also support initiatives in furniture, clothing, and resources such as job applications and resumes. The Thanksgiving community dinner drew an impressive 148 attendees, with 30 dedicated volunteers serving up hearty meals. Organizers expressed gratitude as every bite was enjoyed, leaving behind no leftovers, a remarkable feat considering previous years often resulted in surplus food donations to local hospitals and emergency workers. The demand for meals underscores a growing need in the community. Organizers encourage local teens and anyone interested to join efforts through volunteer programs such as Key Club or Matthew 5:42, extending a warm invitation to both contributors and helpers. Next Generation for Christ, launched three years ago, embarked on their journey with a visit to a Native American Reservation in Arapaho, Wyoming—a trip that left a lasting impact on its members. Beyond providing meals, the organization extends support to the community through various outreach activities. Volunteers assist with educational programs, youth mentorship, and cultural exchange events, fostering strong connections. They participate in cleanup projects and help facilitate access to essential resources. Group members emphasize that their mission goes beyond service, aiming to build lasting relationships and address the broader needs of the local population. Matthew 542 has become a cornerstone in the Kewanee community, focusing not only on feeding those in need but also building lasting trust with the area's homeless population. Over the last five years, this initiative—anchored by the First Christian Church—has expanded to reach more individuals, partnering with groups like Next Gen and Finish Well Ministries. Volunteers regularly deliver meals and essentials, fostering relationships and understanding. The unique approach ensures everyone is welcome at community dinners, regardless of their circumstances. Organizers say the key is treating guests with respect and dignity, paving the way for further help and spiritual support. Paula is gearing up to launch a series of clothing drives starting in January, aimed at providing essential items to those in need. Alongside these initiatives, resource fairs and job application workshops are planned to empower community members with new skills and opportunities.
