They emphasize first defining what success is for small group leaders, then aligning ministry structures to that outcome through leader training (for members, leaders, and coaches), providing practical tools (including individual and group health assessments and idea resources), and creating a strategic curriculum pathway that addresses weaknesses rather than simply filling time. They also highlight collecting both hard and soft data to support relational shepherding, building a scalable coaching/community-leader structure (often volunteer-based), and defining a group maturity pathway from early fellowship to balanced engagement with the Great Commission/Great Commandment. Finally, they outline three connection strategies—adult Sunday school alignment, a connection strategy when a pastor isn't fully on board, and church-wide campaigns when leadership is aligned—encouraging leaders to regularly reassess and shore up guardrails using the show-notes diagram and related books.00:00 Welcome to SG Squared01:22 Why Summer Is Ideal04:16 Building Block One Success06:52 Building Block Two Training09:37 Building Block Three Tools12:52 Building Block Four Curriculum15:44 Building Block Five Data18:41 Building Block Six Coaches21:48 Building Block Seven Pathway24:30 Building Blocks Eight To Ten29:42 Final Encouragement Outro ★ Support this podcast ★

Why would a parish packed with on-fire disciples feel stagnant? You'd think that if you put a dozen former FOCUS missionaries in one parish, it would explode with fruitfulness—but almost nothing happened. The truth is, even the most passionate disciples need a clear path and a culture that supports mission. Without it, the fire fizzles. In this episode, I talk about why real change is uncomfortable but necessary, what a parish of missionary disciples actually looks like, and how a community can shift from cruise ship mode to fire station mode—where mission is normal and conversion is celebrated. What if your parish's most “welcoming” events are actually pushing people away? In this episode, I sit down with the team to unpack the surprising truth about relational outreach—and why it's often the last step parishes build, even though it's the first step many people need. We talk about what makes outreach truly relational (hint: it's not donuts after Mass), how to create spaces where people feel like they belong before they believe, and why introverts might just be your parish's secret evangelization weapon. If you've ever wondered how to reach people who've drifted from the Church—or never really connected in the first place—this one's for you. What if your parish's faith formation is creating consumer Catholics instead of disciples? In this episode of EquipCast, I sit down with my team to unpack what faith formation is really supposed to do—and why so many parishes get stuck. We talk about the difference between just teaching information and actually forming hearts and habits. You'll hear why small groups matter, how to spot a healthy ministry, and what it takes to move people from simply learning their faith to living it—and then going on mission. We talk about launching apostolates, forming others, and becoming the kind of disciples who don't just consume content but live it out with joy and purpose. Plus, we share some honest stories, practical tools (like the Discernment Rosary), and plenty of laughs. What's the secret sauce to evangelization? Aside from the Holy Spirit, it's curiosity—genuinely wanting to know and understand the person in front of you. When you show sincere interest in someone's story, experiences, and thoughts, you create space for authentic connection. This curiosity builds trust and opens the door to deeper conversations where faith can be shared naturally. Evangelization isn't about having all the answers—it's about being present, listening, and letting relationships grow organically. To help you do this, our team has developed Elevate! (https://archomaha.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Elevate.pdf), a new small group resource designed for meaningful conversations with friends who aren't ready for a traditional Bible study. In this episode, I sit down with Andy Dejka, the mastermind behind Elevate!, to explore how it fosters deeper dialogue. We discuss its unique four-week, four-person, four-question format, leadership requirements, and the heart behind its creation. Andy also shares his personal call to mission, including how running a stand at a local farmer's market shaped his approach to evangelization. Did you know that on average (https://www.datawrapper.de/_/1DUgL/), there's only one priest for every 2,000 parishioners in our archdiocese? With such a large group to guide, you might wonder how it could be possible for parish leaders to help their people grow in discipleship and move towards sainthood. The Clear Path framework is key to success, but the challenge is greater in our rural communities where a single pastor often handles several parishes. To gain insight on these issues, I sit down with Jake Olson, the evangelization coordinator for Our Catholic Family, a group of parishes in the Northeast corner of Nebraska. Jake describes the clear path as a bowling alley where our ultimate goal (heaven) is like bowling a strike, and the clear path consists of bumpers that keep us aligned towards this goal. Tune in to hear Jake's practical advice and heartfelt experiences. He shows us how small actions and genuine connections can lead to profound spiritual growth and community transformation. Whether you're in a bustling city or a quiet rural town, these timeless principles of evangelization are universally applicable. Episode Highlights: * Relational Evangelization: Learn the art of building authentic friendships and introducing Jesus into existing relationships. * The Clear Path: Discover the three-phase strategy tailored for rural communities to guide individuals towards discipleship and sainthood. * *Jake's Journey: *Be inspired by Jake Olson's personal faith story and his impactful transition from college ministry to serving eight parishes across Cedar and Knox counties. To be a true reflection of God now, a true mirror, an image bearer of God now, in the world now, and to actually share in His purpose as an ambassador, a reflection of God. 2 Corinthians 5: 17 - 21 is a key Scripture in this book that you're brand new, you're not sort of new, you're not that old self, you don't define yourself by that old man, that old nature, that old sin. You have a brand-new nature, you're a brand-new person in Christ, and you have, you get to share in His purpose and walk in His authority right now. And that's the clarion call in this book, is that everything that was lost in the garden has been found in Jesus. Will you take it up? Will you live out of the truth of all that's been found for you, and live with meaning and purpose and power in your life? Because that's where you find your true identity. Julia talks with Pastor Amanda Pershing about rebuilding church, and why we want you to join a team!Amanda started out as an intern at Vineyard Columbus in 2002 and then worked for 3 years as Pastor Rich Nathan's Research Assistant.
