[This episode originally aired on August 20th of 2024][Watch this on YouTube]Seacoast Church was started in 1988 by Pastor Greg and Debbie Surratt who moved from Illinois to Charleston, SC in 1987 with their four kids, Jason, Josh, Jessica, and Jenny. Early on, their family endured life-threatening hardship—two of the kids surviving a massive car wreck and their oldest daughter, Jessica, surviving an extremely close-call in a jet ski accident. On this episode, Pastor Greg, Pastor Josh Surratt, and Jenny Mayer (the youngest of the bunch) sit down with host, Joey Svendsen to discuss those dark times, including the narratives of those dreadful accidents. They reflect on God's goodness shown through church community and ponder these early seasons in the context of spiritual warfare and God's sustenance. The three also treat the listenership to some fun stories with hilarious insight on the Surratt family, back in the old days when our Lead Pastor, Josh Surratt, still got spankings. On this EpisodeJenny Mayer / Instagram Greg Surratt / Instagram Josh Surratt / Instagram Joey Svendsen, host / InstagramSeacoast Podcast is now on InstagramBe a Patron of the podcast We have a YouTube Channel for videos of all episodes since Jan. 2024. When God sends his angels to gather his wheat, will be gathered also? Or, will you be burned with the tares?
Pastor Greg Scott closes out the final week of our teaching series, The Life of Abraham. Abraham modeled faith, responsibility, and leadership not just in his own life but in how he impacted others, including younger people like Lot. True legacy is built by thinking beyond the present and intentionally passing down faith, values, and spiritual truth. Rather than focusing only on personal success, believers are called to guide and influence those coming after them through integrity, honesty about their weaknesses, and consistent faith in God. In this message, Pastor Greg explores the following Scriptures: Genesis 18:18–19 Psalm 78:1–7 Malachi 4:6 Psalm 71 Psalm 145:4
1 Corinthians 14:3 | On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation. So it is meant to build up, not tear down. But upbuilding doesn't mean it's always fluffy/positive. It could be corrective, but the end goal is constructive. True prophecy should leave one stronger in faith. Church, that's the power of prophecy. May we all be eager to prophesy. And remember, it's not the skill of the person, it's the gift of the Spirit.
In "You're Never Too Far Gone to Come Home," Pastor Greg explores the parable of the Prodigal Son found in Luke 15. Through this powerful story, he reminds us that Jesus is deeply concerned for those who are lost and reveals the compassionate heart of the Father. No matter how far we may wander, God's love continually invites us to return home to Him.
All Jesus is the end of Matthew. It is fitting as Jesus is such a theme for Matthew throughout his gospel. At the end of this gospel Jesus reminds or emphasizes he has ALL authority and it has been given to him by the Father. He instructs his disciples to make disciples of ALL nations, in other words, ALL people. Disciples are to obey ALL Jesus has commanded them. That's a lot of ALL's. But then Jesus reminds them that he will ALWAYS be with them - ALWAYS. And He is. Through His Word, through His sacraments and through His Spirit, Jesus is ALWAYS with us, Always with us until He returns in ALL his Glory. Gen. 1:1–2:4a Acts 2:14a, 22–36 Matt. 28:16–20
1. What are the Gifts of Tongues and Prophecy? 2. Why is Prophecy more desirable than Tongues? 3. What principle should guide the gifts of prophecy and tongues? Paul says pursue Love and desire the spiritual gifts that build up… and if it can build up the believers in the room, and benefit the unbelievers in the room… then pursue those greater gifts.
What a gift. A gift that is meant to be shared. The Living Waters that Jesus refers to sharing with others in John 7 is the Holy Spirit that has been placed inside of us at our baptisms. Again, what a gift, but a gift not to keep to ourselves. In verse 38 Jesus says, “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘ Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.'” These Living Waters are the Holy Spirit in our hearts. Gifts like love, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and gentleness, all gifts of the Holy Spirit are to flow over out of our hearts for others and into others. Jesus says in verse 37 “Whoever” believes in me. The gift of the Holy Spirit and the Living Waters that flow out of our hearts are for ALL people. Num. 11:24–30 Acts 2:1–21 John 7:37–39

But if a few friends help out, no one has to lose their sanity. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie takes us to a great biblical example of teamwork. The glory of God is not something you can hang on a wall and describe. But once you experience the fullness of God, you've experienced His glory. It is our responsibility to share it with others.

The Lord said very clearly to me, as I was meditating on this very passage: “I have given you the most excellent way. I've given you the ministry of love.” And the Lord says that to each of you who has Christ in you. Moms, if you ever feel like you're not enough… God has given YOU the most excellent way. You have the ability to love. Who else needs to hear that? You may not have the gift of service or administration, but you have love. You may not have a public platform or a wide audience, but you have love. You may not have what she has or he has, but you have love. If God has given you his Son, and he's put in you His Spirit… then he's given you the most excellent way. And out of you should come the greatest gift… the gift of LOVE.
In his Mother's Day message, “Favored and Faithful,” Pastor Greg reminds us to never discount what God can do through you.
On this Mother's Day message, we reflect on Jesus' powerful promise in John 14: "I will not leave you as orphans." In a world where loneliness, grief, and uncertainty can feel overwhelming, Christ reminds us that God is not distant, neutral, or merely observing—God is our Advocate, always for us and always present with us. Through stories of mothers, loss, belonging, and faith, this sermon explores what it means to be truly known, deeply loved, and never alone. Whether you are celebrating, grieving, or searching for purpose, this message offers comfort and hope for every heart.
This message explores Jesus' promise in John 14 that we are never left alone. In this message, we reflect on the gift of the Holy Spirit as our Helper, Comforter, and Advocate—God's presence with us in every season of life. Through personal stories, the power of Pentecost, and Jesus' call to love God and love others, this sermon reminds us that the Holy Spirit is not distant or mysterious, but active, personal, and available today. If you've ever wondered where God is in difficult moments, this message offers hope: you are not abandoned, and you are not alone.
In “Trust Jesus With the Hard Stuff,” Pastor Greg challenges us with this truth: ignoring pain is not spiritual maturity—it's spiritual denial, because Jesus cannot heal what you will not submit to Him. The moment you take matters into your own hands, you take them out of God's hands.
John 5:24 | “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life. It takes one step of faith to cross over from death to life. One step of repentance- believing that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, the one who died for our sins and rose from the grave. I love that in life you can make 1000 wrong decisions, go in hundreds of wrong directions… but you're just one step away from forgiveness, hope, newness, and eternal life in heaven with Jesus. Just one step of faith, and you're saved by grace.
