Theophilius Bagpiper is a Netrunner podcast, all about FFG's living card game Android: Netrunner. Hosts Rob and Seamus are joined by a guest each episode to discuss the competitive, casual and breakfast issues on their minds.
Good god, it's been a while. Hello everyone, we're back. Hopefully some of you are still here because we have a very special episode to mark our return. Two thirds of Nisei's development team join us to tell us how to save a game after cancellation and talk about their first release, Ashes: Downfall! Rob and Seamus did quite well at nats. Whilst IDing into the cut they took a little stroll and met up with Alex. For concerned listeners, Alex was able to get back into ID town the following round and also made top 16. Seamus is off to Fake Worlds tomorrow so please come say hi if you're there! It's summer and we are doing our best to keep cool. Ronan joins us for a chat over ice cream, talking all things Euros and the end of Netrunner. We also announce the winner of Iain's excellent ICE Breaker quiz. I highly recommend checking out his answer key for insightful explanations of the trickier ones. You can also check out Lane's answers which are entirely lacking in insight but are quite funny. Netrunner is ending, but we're not done yet. Join Team Scotland as we travel to Euros on a horrible train. You'll then note that most of the weekend has been missed as you rejoin us on the Sunday evening. We're sorry. We were drunk. However, to make it up to you the second segment includes guest co-host Tom Holiday, former World Champion Chris Dyer and winner of Euros 2018 Patrick Gower! There's also a brief appearance from someone we don't know, asking us a question we don't know the answer to. We return just in time to get excited about Euros! Alice joins us to discuss the lead up to the event and check in on how we've been feeling about Netrunner since we last recorded. Our enthusiasm is predominantly down to how alluring this year's Team Scotland t-shirt is (designed by our very own Iain). These are likely to be hotly coveted items but we don't want them torn from our torsos, so instead we're running a competition. The design features every legal ICE Breaker in the game with varying degrees of abstraction. Throughout the weekend we'll have sheets of paper featuring the design and space for you to guess which card each image represents. It will cost a pound to enter and the winner will receive a play mat featuring the design. Proceeds will go to Scottish Wildlife Trust for protecting the real life Darwins around our shores. Also discussed on the episode - trout, pirates, raising of eyebrows. Have you heard the news? No, not the news of the MWL. There's a new big box coming - Reign & Reverie! Netrunner's lovely lead designer Michael Boggs joins us for a discussion of eggs, nicknames and wolf tattoos. We also talk about the MWL, and best of all Rob is back in the co-host seat! Rob is busy playing with toy spaceships so Ronan returns as co-host and Alice returns as superstar guest. They join Seamus in the grand winter tradition of complaining about the meta, particularly CI! Just in case Fantasy Flight don't come through with another New Year's Eve MWL update, we bring you another mini-episode. Seamus is joined by Iain to - somewhat drunkenly - build Criminal and Weyland decks using a single copy of the revised core set. The decklists we produce are: Gabe: https://netrunnerdb.com/en/decklist/47515/the-relentless-silver-fox Building a Better World: https://netrunnerdb.com/en/decklist/47516/because-we-drank-it We suggest listening to this episode whilst watching fireworks and ignoring your friends and family as the clock strikes twelve, or alternatively as a hangover cure when you emerge from the festivities tomorrow afternoon. With conversations recorded both at Worlds and following the the UK Rankings Final in glamorous Reading, we discuss the competitive meta at the close of 2017. At the end of the year that had people declaring Netrunner dead, Rob and Seamus are joined by Dave Hoyland, Mark Mottram, Chris Dyer, Laurie Poulter and Mike Prosser. Will they be celebrating the game’s resurrection or determining the time of death? Listen on to find out! And we're back with part two of the Scottish team's worlds chat, this part recorded back home as Seamus got too drunk to finish recordings after the cut. (Some of) Scotland went to worlds! Join us for our predictions and planning for a tournament that occurred three weeks ago. We actually talk about other stuff too, I promise. When Theophilius Bagpiper told Rob and Seamus that he wanted them to interview former lead designer of Netrunner, Damon Stone, their minds filled with visions of transatlantic luxury flights and the glitz and glamour of California. Once our hosts were unpacked from their shipping crate they were at least relieved to see the handsome face of Damon there to greet them. Ostensibly sent to find out about Core 2.0 and reflect on Damon's time at the helm of Netrunner, things quickly turn breakfast-y. In our hosts' defence, they had had a long flight. Rob and Seamus build some decks using the new core set! This time around it's Making News and Chaos Theory. We even take the decks for a spin on Jinteki.net, finally fulfilling the promise of video content that Rob made a year ago. Watch us play clumsy netrunner here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AV8d4ztdCP4&t=2s
Rob and Seamus are joined by old Netrunner hand and new(ish) Edinburgher Alice to discuss the revised core set. That's right! The rumours were true and while some cards leave us forever a bunch more, previously scheduled for rotation, have been saved. Iain and Ronan - the new regime - bring you a new, more focused and generally cleaner version of the podcast you barely had a chance to realise existed before it disappeared for months. Mr. Bagpiper is dealing with Rob and Seamus for their slovenliness.
Cyber-criminals are in hiding and corps are cleaning up their acts. And they'd better, because the NAPD are cracking down on hacking and white-collar crime once again. There is (finally) a new update to the Most Wanted List! It hits many of the cards that have been making people sad for some time and was accompanied by a host of heartwarming typos. With Theophilius Bagpiper in hiding, Seamus and Rob have been celebrating with Netrunner and booze. We recommend you consume this podcast whilst mildly hung over with eggs prepared in the style of your choice. Careful with the fried sort. Whizzard is dead; Andromeda is on the lam; Chaos Theory is too sad to net-run. Investors have done the maths on Stronger Together and shares are plummeting. Old Theophilius Bagpiper isn't worried though. And why? Because he's from Honour and Profit. This month (ish), Rob and Seamus are joined by UK Nats top-16 finisher and full-time son of a bitch, Jonny to talk about the big event on the horizon for everyone's favourite cyber-noir living cardgame. No, not Terminal Directive. No, not a new MWL. No! We're talking about rotation. Theophilius Bagpiper has stolen the Edinburgh meta's decks! Corporations are defenseless and runner rigs are bare. What is to be done? It's time to draft. Rob and Seamus are joined by Andy to talk about this alternative form of Netrunner. Listen and find out why you should throw away that tier one deck, hope for some luck, and ask your neighbour what the stats of Aurora are. The first episode of the Theophilius Bagpiper Podcast! In which we make a lot of mistakes, apologise for them too much and discuss our recent experiences of competitive play and the Most Wanted List with the help of Matthew.
