Over the previous four articles in this series, I have explored the history of Spiel des Jahres, the purpose behind its awards, the way its jury works, and the wider activities funded through its income. Together, those articles painted a picture of an organisation that sees its annual awards as a means rather than an end. Promoting games as a cultural asset, encouraging people to play board games together and providing guidance to newcomers to the hobby have all remained at the core of its mission for almost fifty years. Elinor and Marianne join their brother and sister-in-law for a night out, much to Fanny's chagrin. When Fanny Dashwood finally meets Lady Middleton, it's a match made in heaven, and Fanny even likes Mrs. Jennings -- she likes them all so much that she invites them all to dine with her at their London home. Marianne finally agrees to go out of the house with Elinor. On their shopping trip, they are surprised to run into none other than their older brother, John Dashwood. As Marianne continues to recover from the sudden end of her relationship with Willoughby, Elinor receives a visit from Colonel Brandon, who feels compelled to share a history that he hopes will help Marianne get over her pain. After the tragic downfall and death of Colonel Brandon's first love, he took on her daughter as his ward. Last fall, he learned that this young girl had been seduced and deserted, and the culprit was none other than Willoughby. While the story isn't exactly comforting, Colonel Brandon hopes it will help Marianne understand Willougby's true character. Legacy games have probably had their golden days. They were something new that hadn't been done before in our hobby. They promised a unique experience of a game that would change as you played it. Not only that, the change would be permanent, requiring you not to only remove components, but actually destroy them, or put stickers into the rulebook, onto the main game board or otherwise apply them to make an irreversible change to the game. However, as exciting as the idea was, it never sat comfortably with me. As a bilingual artist, Lolo Zouaï uses both English and French on her new album Reverie. Sometimes it's because the meaning of a word in one language is more precise for the song, while other times the sound of the word fits the melody better. We take a deep dive into Zouaï's songwriting process and discuss why she's not good at late-night writing sessions, why the bathroom is a great place to get rid of writer's block, and why she's much more productive when working on many things at once.
