The Musgrove sisters and Captain Wentworth are getting closer, but Anne isn't convinced anyone is in love yet, on either side. When all of them - the Musgrove sisters, Captain Wentworth, Mary and Charles, and Anne - embark on a long walk together, it's the perfect opportunity for Anne to observe how they interact. Soon, they're at Winthrop, and Charles Hayter is back in the mix with Henrietta, leaving Captain Wentworth and Louisa together, and Anne the only uncoupled member of the group. But uncoupled doesn't mean unnoticed, and when the Crofts offer to take one of the party home in their gig, it's the tired Anne who is helped by Captain Wentworth into the carriage. As she rests, Anne is left to contemplate the pleasure and pain her former lover's warm and amiable heart. Let her restful thoughts be your companion this evening, as this week's story helps you drift gently into a night of soft and restful sleep.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! Yes, Mr. Collins's second offer of marriage in three days has been accepted, and Charlotte is to become mistress of Hunsford, and eventually of Longbourn itself. This week Terry and Paul visit the Hotel Reverie in the third episode of season 7 of Black Mirror. When a famous actor is given the chance to be a literal part of movie history, they jump at the opportunity. Things take a turn when the film starts going off script...
Mr. Collins's time at Longbourn is running out, and that means it's time for him to act on the true purpose of his visit: matrimony. He's resolved to seek the hand of one of his fair cousins, and since Jane is taken, Elizabeth has been the apple of his eye. Yet, despite the many clear advantages of the match (Lady Catherine will visit his bride!), Elizabeth is most unwilling to accept. A push from her honored parents should do the trick, right? In our latest Friday Favorites, revisit Mr. Collins's grandiloquent musings on matrimony and let the amusements help you relax into another evening of soft and restful sleep.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! The night that all of Hertfordshire has been waiting for is finally here: Mr. Bingley's ball at Netherfield. Elizabeth, looking lovelier than usual, is disappointed to find that Mr. Wickham isn't there, and even more disappointed at her choice of dance partners. After dancing the first two with Mr. Collins, she finds herself dancing with Mr. Darcy. Elizabeth's not one for negativity, so she tries to make the best of the night, but it seems like each member of her family is determined to make the evening as difficult, and humiliating, as possible. In this week's Friday Favorites, return to one of Austen's most beloved ball scenes, and let the evening at Netherfield be your companion into your own evening of soft and restorative sleep.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! It's official: Captain Wentworth is at Kellynch. Conveniently for Anne, her nephew's sprained collar bone offers the perfect excuse for her to stay back when Captain Wentworth calls at Uppercross. But she can't avoid him forever, and a surprise morning visit to Uppercross Cottage brings them back together after nearly eight years apart. Captain Wentworth is in the country with a mind for marriage, but not to Anne Elliot - in fact, he found her "so altered that he should not have known her again." The words linger with Anne long after his short visit is over. As she reflects, let her thoughts fill your mind and help you forget your day as you fall into another night of peaceful slumber.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! There's a handsome new soldier in Meryton, and he's caught the eye of everyone from the Bennets to Mr. Darcy. That's right, it's none other than Mr. Wickham, and after seeing Mr. Darcy's reaction to him in Meryton, Elizabeth's curiosity is insatiable. Luckily, Mr. Wickham is more than willing to share the story of his many misfortunes. Elizabeth knew Mr. Darcy was proud, but this is another level of cruelty she wasn't expecting. Yet, with all these facts and dates, Elizabeth is sure there's no way it could be false. In this week's Friday Favorites, revisit Mr. Wickham and his definitely-true account of his past, and let the comforting familiarity of his tale help you forget your day and drift into a night of gentle sleep. -----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! Anne is getting comfortable at Uppercross, which means lots of time with the Musgroves, and they're all very grateful to have Anne as a go-between and sounding board for their various complaints about each other - especially Mary and Mrs. Musgrove. Meanwhile, the Crofts have arrived at Kellynch. Upon meeting them, Anne learns that Captain Wentworth is on his way to Kellynch too. It's very trying for Anne's nerves, but she needs to find a way to relax. As she does, let the latest chapter in her story help you relax, as you end your day and find your way into a night of restorative slumber.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! Sir Walter's meeting with Admiral Croft is satisfactory, and their agreement is finalized, which means that the Elliots are off to Bath. Or rather, Sir Walter and Elizabeth are headed to Bath, but they will be joined by Mrs. Clay instead of Anne. It's quite an affront, but one that is softened somewhat by an invitation from Anne's other sister, Mary, to stay with her at her home in Uppercross. So Anne is staying close by to Kellynch instead. At least she's wanted here, which is more than she can say for Bath. As she settles in with Mary's in-laws, the Musgroves, let her story help you settle in under your covers as you drift away into a night of gentle sleep.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! The two eldest Bennet sisters are still at Netherfield as Jane recovers from her cold, and that means Elizabeth and Darcy are stuck in each other's orbits for a little longer. The evenings together are bringing Elizabeth a little too close for Mr. Darcy's comfort, especially after Elizabeth teases him about his faults. Mr. Darcy's good opinion once lost may be lost forever, but luckily Elizabeth's charms will always secure her a spot in his good graces. As Darcy's affection grows, let this week's Friday Favorite comfort and carry you into a peaceful night of rest and relaxation.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! As much as it pains him, the proud Sir Walter must decide who will be the new tenant of Kellynch Hall. Luckily, Mr. Shepherd has just the tenant in mind: an Admiral Croft. Though Sir Walter generally finds naval officers displeasing (their faces are just so weathered), there's a certain charm in letting one's home to an Admiral - their station is just high enough, without being too high to embarrass a baronet. For Anne, the choice of tenant holds particular significance, for Admiral Croft's wife is none other than the sister of Mr. Wentworth, and he could be back at Kellynch very soon, indeed. Things are moving for the Elliots and Kellynch Hall, and as they do, let this week's story move you on your own way into gentle and restorative sleep.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! It is a truth universally acknowledged that there's never a bad time to revisit Jane Austen's most beloved novel. In this first of our new Friday Favorites series, we make our way back to the very beginning of Pride and Prejudice, and meet the Bennets as they learn that Netherfield Park is let at last, and by a man of a good fortune. It's time to meet our new protagonists: the Elliots of Kellynch Hall. The family consists of Sir Walter, the haughty and vain baronet, and his three daughters, Elizabeth, Anne, and Mary. Elizabeth and Mary have something to recommend themselves to their father (beauty, and a husband, respectively), but Anne has lost her bloom - she's only Anne. We meet them as Sir Walter is growing distressed for money, having exceeded his income since the unfortunate death of the late Lady Elliot. What's a boastful baronet to do? Hotel Reverie, takes us deep into the haunting implications of AI-driven filmmaking, consciousness uploading, and emotional memory. Greg Alba & team react to this nostalgic and heartbreaking story starring Issa Rae (Insecure, Barbie) as actress Brandy Friday, who enters a simulated film world to act alongside a digital recreation of 1940s star Dorothy Chambers, portrayed by Emma Corrin (Deadpol & Wolverine, The Crown, Lady Chatterley's Lover). As the simulated Clara begins to gain self-awareness, Brandy's experience turns from glamorous role to emotional prison. The episode pays homage to classic cinema aesthetics while exploring modern ethical questions—reminiscent of San Junipero but with a uniquely bittersweet tone. From identity, AI ethics, and digital immortality, Hotel Reverie hits hard. At the end of the episode, Brandy is freed—but not without emotional cost. There's one more surprise left in store for Emma - Harriet has accepted Robert Martin! Though Emma believes it impossible at first, it's really true, and with this news the fates of all three of Highbury's young couples are set. It's been a long road of encouragement, deception, and mistaken affection, but at last, everyone is paired with their desired partners and on their way to the altar. It's finally time to conclude Emma Woodhouse's story, and as we do, let it help you conclude your evening and make your way into a night of deep and peaceful sleep.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! This semester's fashion show, Winter's Reverie, includes a variety of designs made by students to portray elegance.
"I chose the sample as it was made in Santiago de Compostela, a beautiful and inspiring city that I hope to revisit one day. The original sample was very distinctive in both tempo and timbre (I believe it is the sound of Galician bagpipes). I went in a very different direction. The original sounds have been extensively processed and treated and fed through granular synthesis software to emerge unrecognisable." Traditional bagpipes in Santiago de Compostela reimagined by Klaus Von Mork. ——————— This sound is part of the Sonic Heritage project, exploring the sounds of the world's most famous sights. In 2016, DJ and producer TOKiMONSTA underwent two brain surgeries for Moyamoya disease, after which she had to relearn how to speak and hear music. In 2019, she became the first Asian-American woman nominated for Best Dance / Electronic Album at the Grammy Awards. Her new album is called Eternal Reverie. She joins us for another installment of "Equalizers: Women in Music Production."
President Trump invoked the 1798 Alien Enemies Act to deport more than 200 alleged Venezuelan gang members. But a judge blocked those deportations over the weekend. Salvadoran President and self-proclaimed “world’s coolest dictator” Nayib Bukele is cozying up to Trump. He’s viewed as a hero on the right for his mass-imprisonment policies. DOJ lawyers accused Rasha Alawieh, a kidney transplant specialist at Brown University, of having “sympathetic” photos of Hezbollah leaders on her phone. She was put on a plane to Paris and informed that her H1-B visa had been canceled. Jennifer Lee’s new album is a tribute to her late best friend. She also talks about LA’s impact on her identity, and what it was like to not comprehend music or language due to a brain disorder.
Emma Woodhouse's story is nearing its end, but one crucial step remains - informing her father of her and Mr. Knightley's engagement. Now that Mrs. Weston's baby has safely arrived, Emma has no more excuses, and can even recruit Mrs. Weston to help make Mr. Woodhouse comfortable with the idea of poor Emma eventually getting married. And once the news is out to the Westons, it's only a matter of time before it makes it to the rest of Highbury. Everyone is delighted, save for the Eltons, of course. As Emma and Mr. Knightley make their way towards marriage, let their journey be your companion as you drift peacefully into another night of soft and restorative sleep. -----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! Harriet's off to London, so Emma is free to bask in the happiness of Highbury. She's overdue for a visit to congratulate Jane Fairfax, so it's off to the Bates's. But Emma's desire to speak freely to Jane is thwarted by the presence of none other than Mrs. Elton, who had the same idea as Emma. Though the visit may be more awkward than anticipated for them, it's just right for you, so let this week's story soothe you as you make your way from day to night and into a state of deep and restful sleep.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast!
