In this episode, Britten LaRue is joined by TMT Alums Bee Phillips and Patrick Dommermuth to explore the lived difference between the Mystic and the Magician, not as fixed identities, but as two complementary ways of moving through desire, time, and co-creation. Together they tease out images that make the distinction felt, name how each archetype relates to will vs surrender, and reflect on how Britten's containers (Emergence Astrology and The Magician's Table) invite different kinds of intimacy, pressure, and self-discovery in community.   Topics They Cover: How Patrick and Bee found Britten's work including the push-pull of malefic medicine, attraction and aversion, and saying yes to both Emergence Astrology and The Magician's Table The felt difference between the Mystic and the Magician: surrender vs will, magnetism vs dynamism, receptivity vs concentrated desire Images that make the archetypes embodied: outer space and comet, heart and blood, air/fire vs earth/water, purification by water vs purification by flame Community as a mirror and medicine: being seen, restoring parts that once felt unsafe, and discovering yourself through others' witnessing Time as an archetypal experience: Mystic time as dissolving and nonlinear versus Magician time as intensified, Saturnian, and pressure-based Why The Magician's Table structure (timers, attendance, deadlines, constraint) can dissolve imposter syndrome and crystallize craft, while Emergence Astrology builds the inner ground and skill set   THE DOORS TO THE 2026 MAGICIAN'S TABLE ARE NOW OPEN! The Magicians of the Class of 2026 are taking their seats!  The only way to apply to TMT is to be on the mailing list. Join it now and will receive the link to the application. Mr. Knightley has called at Hartfield, and he has news that he's sure will excite Emma. Her little friend Harriet is about to be proposed to by Mr. Robert Martin. But Emma has one better, for she informs him that Harriet has already refused Mr. Martin's proposal. What follows is a vigorous disagreement between the two over the merits of Harriet marrying Mr. Martin. Though the sparring feels playful to Emma at first, she's left uneasy by Mr. Knightley's disapproval of her interference. But she distracts herself with thoughts of Mr. Elton and her confidence that he is well on his way to falling in love with Harriet instead. Our latest Friday Favorites brings us two protagonists who are evenly matched in wit, though perhaps not in maturity. As Emma and Mr. Knightley have it out, let them take you into another night of restful sleep.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! The Palmers are still at Barton Park, and their presence remains a distraction for Elinor and Marianne. Despite Mrs. Palmer's eccentricities, Elinor finds herself enjoying her conversation with her. Though Mrs. Palmer seems a little too certain of Marianne and Willoughby's engagement, Elinor is at least pleased with her warm and favorable impression of Willoughby, since the Palmers live in the same county as Combe Magna. It's a small comfort in a winding conversation that takes the Dashwoods on a journey to places they never expected - so settle in under the covers and join them on their adventure, as the Palmers calm your mind and help you into a night of soft and gentle sleep.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! Of course, Emma knows she mustn't influence Harriet's decision. It should be all her own. But it can't hurt for Emma to give some gentle advice - after all, what are friends for? Edward's week at Barton Cottage comes to a close, though he doesn't seem too enthusiastic about leaving. His departure leaves Elinor plenty of time to contemplate his feelings, and her own. But before she can get too carried away, the Dashwoods are interrupted by the arrival of new guests: the Palmers. Mrs. Palmer is Mrs. Jennings's other daughter, and shares Mrs. Jennings's boisterous disposition, while her husband is the complete opposite. The Dashwoods have never met anyone quite like the Palmers, and their presence is certainly a distraction from lost love, for both Elinor and Marianne. Both Harriet and Mr. Elton have been spending more time at Hartfield, and Emma has the perfect idea to bring them both together: she will draw Harriet's portrait for Mr. Elton. Emma has a great fondness for taking likenesses, and is very experienced, though none of her previous portraits were ever finished. That doesn't seem to bother Mr. Elton, who is highly complimentary of all of Emma's sketches, and especially of the new portrait of Harriet. His gallantry is a sure sign that he's in love; Emma is certain of it. But we know better, and as Emma takes the next step in her familiar story, let this week's Friday Favorites paint a picture that takes you into another night of soft and relaxing sleep.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! Edward's visit to Barton continues, and his old comfort with the Dashwoods is slowly returning. As he discusses the rolling landscapes of Devonshire with Marianne and Elinor, Marianne spots a new accessory on Edward's finger: a ring containing a lock of hair. It's not the right color to be his sister's hair, so the sisters are sure it must be Elinor's. But when could he have gotten it? There's no time to find out, as Sir John and Mrs. Jennings soon arrive to get to know the new gentleman visitor. As they do, let their story help relax you and take you into a night of restorative slumber.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! In this episode of A Table in the Corner, Russel sits down with Julia Hattingh, chef and owner of Reverie Social Table, to unpack one of Cape Town's most singular dining models. Julia talks through a career shaped by classical training, long stints in demanding kitchens and time abroad, before arriving at a form of hospitality that deliberately slows things down. The conversation traces her path from Mirandol and Le Quartier Français to London, Paris and back home, and how those experiences informed a move away from conventional service towards a single communal table, one menu and one sitting. Julia explains the thinking behind cooking for a roomful of strangers at once, pairing food to wine, sourcing directly from farmers and growers, and designing a restaurant that values connection, presence and intention over scale. We also talk about no shows, prepaid bookings, shared gratuities and building a small, multi-skilled team without front and back of house divisions. This is an honest, thoughtful discussion about restraint, sustainability and why eating together at a table still matters, told by a chef who has chosen clarity of purpose over expansion. You can book for Reverie Social hereGet a fair price with HeadsUpEvery booking is a first impression. In this conversation, Ellen Emmet reflects on her path into Jungian analysis and how the teachings of Carl Jung continue to shape her inner life, clinical work, and spiritual inquiry. Together, we explore what it means to hold depth psychology and nondual realization in the same field—without collapsing one into the other. The dialogue moves through questions of decolonizing therapy, the subtle dynamics of spiritual bypass, and the kind of deep listening required when working with the unconscious—both personal and collective. Ellen speaks to the body as a threshold into the psyche's wilderness, and to the necessity of staying in relationship with what is unresolved, uncomfortable, and unfinished. Threaded throughout is a concern for the wider world: how collective trauma, ancestral memory, and the current socio-political moment ask to be included in spiritual and therapeutic work—not bypassed. This is a conversation about remembrance, embodiment, and the slow work of integration in times of upheaval. Ellen offers meetings and retreats through The Awakening Body, an experiential exploration rooted in nondual inquiry, Authentic Movement, and direct listening to lived experience. She also maintains a private psychotherapy practice and facilitates Authentic Movement groups. Rhythm, ritual and reverie are interconnected. They are interwoven in a way that has invoked an experience of the sacred as long as humans have been around. Rhythm gives birth to cycles of becoming and ending. We can align ourselves to existence by paying attention to life's rhythms, which bring us to feel our connection and place in the weave of everything. In ordinary life, rhythm shows up in our routines. These can become portals, sacred doorways which help us to ground and self-regulate. Having a conscious relationship to fluid and creative routines is different than having a collection of mechanical habits that buffer us from reality. Awareness of our state is healing in itself. Ancient people answered big questions of life through communal ritual. The winter solstice is a threshold moment in the rhythm of the year. In times of craziness that come from woundedness, routine and ritual can make a difference. Little practical things can be anchored and ritualized. Rituals are a way we can invoke divine help. When we ask for help, it's the beginning of laying our burdens down. What burdens do we carry that are not ours to carry? What burdens are we meant to carry? Sometimes we must turn our burdens over to a power that is greater than us. There are three levels of symbols: practical, metaphorical and universal. Sometimes we carry each other when a burden is very great. Through presence we can experience wonder and awe, and court the possibility of reverie. In reverie, we lay our burdens down, open a doorway to revelation, and attune to our deepest Self without effort. Mary Angelon Young is a workshop leader with a background in Jungian psychology, an editor, and author of As It Is, Under the Punnai Tree, The Baul Tradition, Caught in the Beloved's Petticoats, Enlightened Duality (with Lee Lozowick), The Art of Contemplation, and other books. If you are interested in more on this topic by Mary, visit hohmsahajmandir.org and click on the Sahaja blog.

Cities and Memory - remixing the sounds of the world

"This recording felt introspective, reflective and meditative and the Indonesian chant took me back to Bali, where I had just been in April 2025. I used some recordings I took in Bali such as a dawn chorus and placed birds and rustles in the wider stereo field. I recorded myself playing the flute, basing the melody on the chant, which is woven throughout the piece." reimagined by Sarah McRuvie.

The Dashwoods' peaceful life at Barton Cottage has been upended - Willoughby has to make a sudden departure, and nobody knows why. It's clear to Elinor that there's more to the story than what he told the Dashwoods on his way out, but her mother is convinced it's simply a minor setback in Willoughby and Marianne's love story. Marianne, meanwhile, sees it as her duty to consign herself to tears and pining, while she waits for Willoughby to return. Though the Dashwoods may be in disarray, their story will bring you calm and peace, as you settle in for another night of gentle and restorative sleep. -----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! Emma Woodhouse is handsome, clever, and rich, and has made it through her nearly twenty-one years in the world with very little to distress or vex her. But that all begins to change when her dear governess Miss Taylor gets married and leaves Hartfield, the Woodhouse's home. Though the new Mrs. Weston's home is only half a mile away, her departure is a big change for Emma, and prompts some unexpected feelings of grief. Luckily for her, her dear family friend and brother-in-law Mr. Knightley has stopped by to call on Emma and her father, which cheers her up, especially since she can take credit for matchmaking Miss Taylor and Mr. Weston. While Mrs. Jennings wonders and speculates about what could have pulled Colonel Brandon away to town, Elinor wonders about something more pressing: the true state of Marianne and Willoughby's relationship. While they're certainly acting like they're engaged, they haven't said a word to anyone about it. But there's no misinterpreting Willoughby's affectionate behavior - everything about Barton Cottage, from the house to its inhabitants, seems to please him. All Elinor can do is continue to wonder, and as she does, let her thoughts fill your mind and take you away into a night of warm and peaceful sleep. -----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! Long hidden in an attic, vivid and revelatory poems shine a new light on the life and loves of Iris Murdoch. In the dusty attic of Iris Murdoch's Oxford home lay a battered, black chest. In 2016, when the chest was finally opened, Murdoch's life in poems was revealed. Renowned for her fiercely intelligent novels and groundbreaking philosophy, Murdoch was one of the great writers of the twentieth century. Yet she is also known for her equally radical life – intense friendships, relationships with both men and women, and an open marriage – about which much has, often controversially, been written. Now, her tightly wrought and vivid poems reveal a new, deeply personal account in Murdoch's own voice. They range over the preoccupations closest to her heart, from the state of Ireland to memories of a first love lost in the Second World War.We speak to Dr Miles Leeson, one of the editors of Poems from an Attic by Iris Murdoch, to learn more about this exciting discovery and how it adds to our understanding of the work of the famous philosopher and novelist. Dr Leeson also reads three poems from the book, 'Reverie in Winchester Cathedral', 'I find that honesty is a hard thing', and 'Macaw in the Snow'. Dr Miles Leeson is Director of the Iris Murdoch Research Centre at the University of Chichester and Visiting Research Fellow at Kingston University. He is Lead Editor of the Iris Murdoch Review, Series Editor of Iris Murdoch Today with Palgrave Macmillan, host of the Iris Murdoch Podcast, and has published widely on Murdoch's work. He published Iris Murdoch: Philosophical Novelist in 2010, the edited collection Incest in Contemporary Literature (2018), the festschrift Iris Murdoch: A Centenary Celebration (2019), the co-edited collections Iris Murdoch and the Literary Imagination (2022) and Iris Murdoch and the Western Theological Imagination (2025), co-edited her selected poetry Poems from an Attic: Selected Poems 1936-1995 (2025), and is currently writing Visiting Mrs Bayley and Other Essays (2026) Iris Murdoch and Feminism and editing The Oxford Handbook of Iris Murdoch (2028).You can find out more about him and his work here:https://www.chi.ac.uk/people/miles-leeson/Iris MurdochIris Murdoch was born in Dublin in 1919. After working in the Treasury and in the UN, she discovered philosophy, eventually becoming Fellow at St Anne's College, Oxford. Her philosophical concerns are at the heart of the 25 novels for which she became famous, gaining the Whitbread Prize for The Sacred and Profane Love Machine and the Booker Prize for The Sea, The Sea. Marianne and Willoughby's relationship is continuing to deepen at a pace that is somewhat alarming to Elinor. With all of this closeness, Elinor is sure that the two must be engaged. But she's soon distracted by her sister Margaret's precociousness in another venue, when she reveals to Sir John and Mrs. Jennings that Elinor was previously attached to a mysterious Mr. F. Today, on the podcast, we have a very special guest, Corrie Van Horne.Corrie Van Horne is a therapist, dietitian, and founder of Reverie—a radical therapy practice and emerging community space for healing, transformation, and reclamation. Her path to this work began during a profound personal awakening in her early thirties. After experiencing a divorce, religious trauma, and deep grief, Corrie found herself questioning the systems and beliefs she was raised within. What began as rupture became revelation—a call to heal, to remember, and to step into her power.A pivotal experience in Egypt, standing before the goddess Sekhmet, revealed the name Reverie—a word rooted in reverence. That moment marked the turning point of a soul-led journey toward helping others reconnect with their own sacredness.Corrie's understanding of healing is deeply informed by her lived experience. Through loss, trauma, and the courage to come out later in life, she discovered that pain can be a teacher and that healing is not about fixing, but remembering—coming home to wholeness, to truth, to the divine within. In her work, Corrie draws from depth psychology, EMDR, Relational Cultural and Queer Theories, and a reverent, body-based spirituality. Her approach is intuitive, compassionate, and rooted in justice. She believes the therapy room can be a container for liberation—a place to transform pain into power, shame into softness, and disconnection into embodied presence.Clients often describe Corrie as deeply grounded, intuitive, and nonjudgmental. She listens with her whole being, creating space for people to be fully seen and gently held accountable to their soul's unfolding. Her work speaks especially to the soul curious—those who may have lost their way and are ready to return to their wholeness, to remember what they came here to do.When she's not in session, Corrie tends to her own healing through ritual, time in nature, travel, and moments of connection with loved ones. She believes liberation embodies a sense of calm, peace, and connection to Self and others—and that every being holds the capacity to return to that state of grace.More on Corrie: Website: https://www.reverie-co.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/reverie.with.corrie/Want More?Join our Newsletter Online Nutrition Coaching Join our Facebook Group1:1 Fitness Coaching Get 3 Weeks of Nutrition Support for FreeFree Knee Pain Training GuideGet Hundreds of Movement Demos on Our Youtube Channel

When given the simple task of doing a listener request, Brooke decides instead to go rogue. So instead of us talking about Alistair and his indifference about which twin he fucks or marries (but which would he kill?), we end up in the world of the Peels, Arthur and Nan-Lin. It's been ten episodes since we last saw them, and it took us a while to figure out exactly who we were dealing with this episode. Once we caught up, we discovered that -- of course! -- Arthur was drawn very differently from when we saw him last. Not a surprise! Anyway, these two people who (hilariously?) share the same last name, fall in love after accidentally (?) touching their tongues together. Brooke and Jeff absolutely lose their fucking minds over the creative choice to put the thoughts in a thought bubble backwards. But things only get worse from there when we finally remember that we've seen these two characters before. And after the briefest amount of research, we discover that -- of course -- Arthur looks NOTHING like the Arthur we met before. Nothing. Barely resembles the same character. Nan-Lin jumps his bones, because that's the only way courtship works in this fucking comic strip. And then we go down the same path we've been down before with the romantic couple talking ENDLESSLY about whether or not what was happening was actually real or somehow just a fantasy. It's insufferable, naturally. Arthur plays his "Reverie," the magical piece of music he wrote that sends listeners into fits of uncontrollable fucking. Nan-Lin recognizes it. And then she doesn't recognize it at all. Because that makes perfect sense. And then, upon hearing it, she drops to the floor and begins masturbating. No, seriously. For like four straight strips. As Arthur puts it, she "palpates herself." Even after he stops playing. Amazing that this run did not kill us. After Willoughby rescues Marianne from her sprained ankle on the moor, the two quickly become inseparable. They have so much in common: music, dance, books, poetry, not to mention his wonderfully good looks. Marianne is sure that Willoughby is everything she has ever wanted in a man, and even Mrs. Dashwood is enchanted by him. Elinor, though, is more cautious. In fact, she is convinced that Colonel Brandon may be developing an attachment to her sister, even though Marianne is decidedly uninterested. Willoughby is a charmer, and as he delights the Dashwoods, let his smooth words help lull you into a night of gentle and relaxing sleep. -----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! Elizabeth is still reeling from Lady Catherine's visit, when her father summons her for a most diverting distraction. He's received a letter from Mr. Collins asserting that Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy are engaged, and warning them to be careful of the disapproval of the gentleman's most esteemed and noble aunt. It's a wonderful joke, because Mr. Bennet is sure that Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy are the two people in the world least likely to be engaged. Elizabeth humors him, but it adds to her distress - could she be hoping for too much?
